Thanks for the kind words. There's more goodies where that came from. Like and subscribe for future videos. I'm just a hobbyist but I plan to make more videos for layer painter and I am an active contributor to the open source project when I get time.
@@blanchsb I wanted to copy the same material to other objects but be able to alter the material only on one object and not the rest, I duplicated the materials but when I change the layers all of them change, i'm lost and idk what to do.
@@gdog8170 Yeah unfortunately Layer Painter 2 does not duplicate materials since they are ties to the object. The workaround for now is to build up the layers again. Not great but also not terribly painful in most cases. Would love for someone in the community to contribute a solution to that since it is open source project now.
thank you for creating the tutorial and thanks to Joshua for creating this and giving it to the community for free! covers pretty much pbr workflow for me (along with textools))) you are my heroes ❤🔥
I haven't been able to move on to Layer Painter 2 yet, I'm stuck with the old one. The item that is most missing to me is the ability to choose which UV map a given layer uses (Same requirement for ID mask too). I use the ability to select UV maps heavily when making game assets as it gives me a way to have textures placed how I need them, whilst still having a final optimized bake UV map. Without that feature I am missing a non destructive way to manage my texture memory usage. Hoping that will get ported over from the original Layer Painter eventually.
That's another great feature idea. I'll add it to the community request as well. We'd love to have someone like you contributing to this project. Consider signing up over in the discord.
With Exports it would be useful to have Channel Packing.. ie, be able to assign individually R G B A to different channels, say for example I wanted diffuse on RGB and Emission value on A.. or transparency.. or Say I wanted Normals on RGB and Specular Exponenent on A. Useful for game engines
I like that idea for sure! I'll post a request to the Discord to see if a community member would like to contribute since anyone can now donate to the opensource code since Joshua released it to the community. If you'd like to take a stab at it that would be super helpful! In the meantime: You can still bake off of the last layer and channel pack with the standard blender workflow.
Awesome:). I’m so happy to be using this soon:). Blender 3.4 has amazing painting capabilities but it’s lacking that multiple layer system:). I see big things for myself using this plug-in:)
Excellent. Yeah it’s not a perfect solution but it works great when painting one object at a time. Share your work on the discord the next time you finish something. Would love to see it be used in action.
How to paint across mulitple UV sets? My chars have separate materials zones with separate UV maps, like one for tha face and one for the neck. the normal painting lets me paint all at once, this one seems to allow painting only on one material at time.
Layer painter 2.0.1 doesn't work on Blender 2.80 even after removing "main" from the zip file it will unzip but you can't get the install box to accept the check mark.
Layer Painter 2 was made when Blender 2.93 was out. For Blender 2.8 you should be able to use Layer Painter 1 software I have tutorial on that version as well. Or you can upgrade Blender to make use of 2.0 I hope that helps!
There are some features that are not in this open source re-write version, correct. Since it is open source now anyone can contribute to add features that they find important.
If you follow along in my video I show you exactly how to download and install the latest version. Time stamp is 0:43 seconds here I cover this: I hope that helps
I never thought I could actually get something like this for free... THANK YOU PEOPLE!!! YOU ROCK!!!!

This is fantastic! You can do so many things with Blender without depending on expensive software or subscriptions. Thank you!
You're very welcome! I am glad you found it helpful.

wow free awesomeness. will try it with handpainting
Sounds good. I hope you enjoy it. It's my way of giving back and paying it forward for how the dev has helped my workflows.
Sweet! Puuurrrrfect timing

is there a way to texture paint in different layers like how you would I PS or Clip Studio Paint

Preset Masks and Filters are not showing. Error message says "You should have "lp_asset.blend" file downloaded. Can not find this file.
does this work for blender 3.1?
Yes, it does.
@@blanchsb hows the compatibility for Blender 4?
It seems this version of Layer Painter has gone backwards instead of forwards.
No edge Damage, no Curvature baking etc

Followed link but no clue which of the dozens of things to click on to download. Why so confusing?

@@blanchsb thank you, I just gave up too quickly.☺
@@mikeekim2532 No worries! That's why I wanted to record the intro to cover these details.
ucupaint is way better than this
