- Amtrak's eastbound Southwest Chief zooms by the last remaining wig wag in Colorado on August 28, 2018. I spent a harrowing 45-mile drive racing the train after getting off in Trinidad to get a video of it passing this historic signal. My disregard for the speed limit on that two-lane highway paid off: I reached the crossing with five minutes to spare.
Delhi, Colorado is a lonely place, consisting of little more than this railroad crossing and an abandoned store. This line only sees occasional traffic in addition to the SWC, so if Amtrak succeeds in torpedoing this route, it will be much more difficult to catch this wig wag in action.
My video of riding the Southwest Chief over Raton Pass can be found here: • Southwest Chief over R...
UPDATE 3/10/21:
When I filmed this in August 2018, it was looking as if the wig wag would outlast the SWC. Well, the opposite happened-the wig wag was retired on 3/9/21. Here is an image of the retirement in process: www.trainweb.or...
I love the southwest chef
Priceless
Guess what this reminds me of: 1:09

Outstanding Jeff. Outstanding
Rest in Peace :
outstanding video photography! sorry to see that one retired a year ago.
Glad to see the wigwag is still there!
Unfortunately, it was removed and now it is replaced with LEDs.
@@littleexperience2.._._._._._.. I am very aware of that. I’ve known about the wigwag being gone since the day it was removed.
That crossing got replaced by a new crossing
@@LandonDoesRailfanningTrains10 I am well aware. Read my earlier reply. Also, I have filmed the new signals.
such a fascinating location
Nice job catching the H1 unit!
A few hundred feet away was the sight of the Delhi Colorado crash on November 19 1977 with the southwest limited
2:04 There are 2 more square boxes in the ground.
That's a lot of space for 1 signal.
I am thinking they are for more than just the signal, since the signal has it's own box
What a old crossing
USA
HU too.
What is in the thing to the right of the wigwag that has the round cover on it just above the ground with a chain going across it ?
Is that some sort of storage box for train emergency supplies or is that part of the control wiring box ?
Do any freights pass there?
Yes, but they're relatively rare. Amtrak is regularly scheduled (assuming it's on time), so it's easiest to catch. Searching "Delhi Wigwag Freight" on UA-cam pulls some results from the past few years.
that got replaced with new how about here coordinates 37.925013, -122.384273
