I’m 65 and love all versions of Jane eyre .. but this is my favourite …. Still find it hard to watch the beginning always makes me cry …. Love George C Scott ♥️
I love Jane Eyre and Anna Karenina too.
My favorite, too. Susannah York is really too beautiful to be Jane, but she performs the role so wonderfully.
Movies like this never get old
Saw a production of Jane Eyre just last night at my local theater. It was so good. I loved the Rochester actor. Jane was really good.
This has always been my favorite version of Jane Eyre and it's very nice to see it again. Thanks for posting it!
My favorite is with Timothy Dalton...❤
I prefer the one with Orrson Wells
My favorite too, I think because this one was the first one I watched years ago.
@@janinabrigita4483
I totally agree with you.
this is the only adaptation so far where everyone actually resembles the characters described in the books, both in looks and in manners.
I don't get people's fascination with Orson Wells, he was overacting a lot and far too brutish and unrefined to pass as an English nobleman.
This is my favorite George C Scott film. He was magnificent in this.
Hvala Vam,dragi ljudi na ovom predivnom filmu!!!Toliko lepote i poučnosti,toliko bajkovitosti!!!Ah,ta stara,dobra vremena!!!
He plays the role of Mr Rochester perfectly. Cruelty, cynicism, mockery, disillusionment, despair, sensitivity, pride, elemental desire for purity, beauty, goodness, for true love.
I watch the stories of jane eyer every day. Suffer from depression and anxiety so the stories take my loneliness away to an extent
❤
sending love and hugs to you across the miles❤
A local theater is doing a production of Jane Eyre. Today's the last night.
Jane Eyre !!! one of my favourite literary classics 👍 !!! My greetings from Tunisia 🙂
My favorite version. I was lucky enough to obtain the sheet music for the Main Theme to play on the piano. So haunting yet so incredibly transcendent.
I read " Jane Eyre " several times; in fact I studied the novel back there in school .. I still love this novel specifically .. I can say I appreciate this movie as the best depication of the original novel .. I enjoyed it
By the way I am almost 50 now and still remember " the red room " .. only Charlotte Bronte admirers will relate 😊
This movie was captivating. It didn't follow the book which I found dark and tragic and heartbreaking. But this movie was a bit lighter and simply beautiful! George C. Scott is amazing!
aah... believe me the novel written by charlotte bronte was far more beautiful than this movie. as it was more detailed. Many of the events were omitted in the movie. For example, In the end. St. john and his sisters were turned out to be real cousins with Jane eyre, and Jane's Uncle leave a millions of property on her name, on the death bed. As he had no heir except for his niece Jane.
Even at the end, in the novel. Mr. Rochester begins to regain his eyesight after getting reunited with Jane.
Cheryl Devine: It may only seem lighter to you because it cannot be as long and detailed as the book is. There is simply not enough time to portray all that goes on in the book. But it is also heart-rending.
@@Sims42069 Yes, that is true but there is only so much that can fit into an hour and a half film, you see. Mind you I few minutes of Jane with the baby and he realizing that he can see a little would have been really nice I was hoping for it.
The real thing is the book, not a movie.
I watched this film when I was 11.And since that time Jordge Scott is my favorite actor. Rip in peace, great actor!
The best one of all film versions of this novel, and the most beautiful music.
I love the music by John Williams too. He's brilliant.
Thank you CCC. A very fine movie with some very fine actors and very fine acting. A pleasure to watch.
George C. Scott in an adaptation of the classic novel Jane Eyre? Definitely sounds interesting. George was a man of principal and refused to accept his well-deserved Oscar for Patton because he hated the idea of his fellow actors competing against each other. Bringing this kind of real-life intensity to a Byronic Hero like Edward Rochester should definitely make it worthwhile. With that being said, he was one of the all-time great actors, and I can't recommend his performances in these films enough.
George C. Scott's Must See Performances:
.Anatomy of A Murder (1959)
.The Hustler (1961)
.Dr. Strangelove (1964)
.Patton (1970)
.Hardcore (1979)
Susannah York, a great English actress underrated by today's standards, might be known to some of you from her roles in the Freud biopic with Montgomery Clift, A Man For All Seasons, or They Shoot Horses, Don't They?, among many others. Now, a talented English actress in an adaptation of Jane Eyre? Obviously, it's going to work well.
Jane Eyre is a classic that's been adapted into period dramas quite a few times at this point. I'm sure many of you know the 1943 version starring Orson Welles & Joan Fontaine and there was a more recent version in 2011 starring Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska. The great thing is whenever actors of a high caliber are at the helm, you know you're seeing something special.
Directed by Delbert Mann, who famously gave us the 1955 Ernest Borginine classic, Marty.
Thanks again, Cult Cinema Classics!

Can’t thank enough for posting this beautiful movie.
great performances by both Scott and York, thanks for posting
This beautiful film should be restored to HD. The final scene is one of the most poignant few minutes I've ever viewed on film. I miss Geo. C. Scott so much, his screen presence, his voice, his impeccable timing, are everything a dramatic actor could hope to offer an audience.
Best Jane Eyre version in my opinion! Lovely movie, lovely music - thank you so much for posting it.
I read this book as a child! Lovely seeing 5his version. The book is an excellent read.
This is an amazing movie. I tried watching other movies about Jane Eyre but not all are featured as this one. LOVED IT.❤❤❤
This has always been my favorite version 👍Thanks for posting.
Thank you for posting this.
I had it once but it was destroyed.
I’ve always been a fan of George C
Scott. He was a brilliant actor! 😊
I just finished Charlotte Bronte's masterpiece and was extremely impressed by her masterful use of the metaphor in at least a dozen places in the story. I got very involved with Jane on a personal level in that I was so grateful to the characters that showed her compassion and love and conversely was hateful towards those who were cruel and antagonistic towards her. Oh yes, the movie! I haven't seen them all (it's testimonial to Bronte's incredible novel that so many films have been released about it) but so far this one's my favorite ❤. George C Scott was wonderful as Mr. Rochester but Susannah York was simply stunning as Jane Eyre. She just killed it! Kudos!
This version of Jane Eyre was the very first I had ever seen. I was a teen and knew nothing of the book or its history. I fell in love with this movie. I cried at the end. I never forgot it and subsequent versions, and the previous one with Orson Welles could not compare, in my eyes. I like this one so much because they didn't overact their parts. Some versions almost seem cheesy to me. But this one is brilliant. George C Scott, though not necessarily a handsome man, was somehow beautiful to me in this film. I chalk it up to his acting and his charm in this role. Though Susannah wasnt exactly homely enough for this part, in fact she was very pretty, she played it so well that it didn't matter to me. What a wonderful film!
I didn't knew about this adaptation with Scott and York. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻
Saw this as a young girl, brought me to tear’s then. Looking forward to seeing it now ❤️

Je ne connaissais pas cette version. J'adore les romans des sœurs Bronte.
Merci beaucoup ❤😊
Soooo grateful the captions are correct with this Classic
I saw this movie as a little girl it left quite an impression on me I just re-read the book it was written in 1943 copy. The book is the best.
Brilliant and touching . Truly authentic . Thank you .
Thank you for posting this. It is my favorite version of this classic, other than the book itself.
I liked the 1983 tv serial (starring Timothy Dalton) too as it is more faithful to the book. But yes, nothing beats reading the book itself. :)
Thank you for posting my favourite version of the novel.George C. Scott is the best Rochester!
One of my most favorite movies, a love story i am most fascinated with, Susannah York n George C Scott put over excellent performance in their roles. My favorite one of all adaptations, it's a movie 2 relish n cherish always.
Thank Cinema Classics and UA-cam ! Thank you
I loved the book when I read it as a teenager. I have seen all of the different movie versions, but I like this one the best because of Susanna York and the beautiful music.
WOW,,THE BRONTE SISTERS WROTE SOME AWESOME STORIES
Oh! So good , I love this story , I can watch over and over ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Though it is not my favourite adaptation of this novel - I appreciate many things in it. For example, I like the final scene - they made is so simple - simple talk with bits of humour - very life-like - without too much of pathos or passion (like in some other versions). And this Rochester did a great job, as well as Jane.
Thank you for posting!
oh, thank you, so much.
i've been enjoying seeing this movie, recently.
it's given me much comfort.
i'm really grateful. 💜💜💜💜💜
So beautiful, true love overcomes all barriers!
Huge fan of George C Scott
Ciaràn Hinds and Michael Fassbinder are my two favorite Mr.Rochesters.
And the "I must leave you" scene is so much more powerfule in the 2011 one.
Thank you for the excellent film! Great actors and great music!!!

To which Jane replied geniusly - "Repentance is said to be its cure."
And yes, i loved reading the book too above all the screen adaptations. :)

this was really well done i was unacquainted with it b4
No movie can come close to the book.
Thank you for posting this wonderful classic, along with the captions. I must say, however, that occasionally they were incorrect. The most glaring example was when Adele explains that her mother was with the "Holy Doctor". What? It should have been the Holy Virgin. Also, beautiful as this film was, it was a shame that the ending that is in the book wasn't included. Now I am going to watch the other version posted on here and see whether it is.

MAGNIFICA VERSION
Que bella Pelicula Me encanto Muy buena Version ❤❤
It did justice to the book. I have seen many versions and this one is a very good one. They made only one mistake: Jane was too beautiful she wasn't plain at all. I cried as I do when I am moved. And I was very surprised to see John Williams for the musical score.
I don't think she is beautiful but it's only my opinion. But she looks at least 30 - in the book she is 18 when she goes to Thornfield.
@@2nevada2thats right. She is far too old. Susannah York was 31 in 1970
Certainly not plain though.
Yes, i think Susannah York is both too pretty and too old for the role. But then so was George C. Scott. Rochester was supposed to be in his mid-30s i believe.
What about st john rivers, who was a handsome blond man according to the book?
So sad how children were treated😢
It's a beautiful movie to watch. Thank you.
