The best part about the OG run of The Magic School Bus was the segment at the end where the show would have "kids" call in to call the show out and the producer would essentially say, "look, this is a 20 minute show meant for kids, we can't do everything right in that time for that audience, the word magic is in the title, just go with it."
why not mix it up a little more with members of the team that want to do the voice over? if both MatPat and Dan's voices pull a Gold Experience Requiem's but really really fast description it would not be good
The really fun part about Magic School Bus, is that some of this stuff they actually explain after the episode. With the producer explaining to kids over the phone and explaining how they skim over some information to fit the 20 minute runtime. It's frankly genius and really respects the intelligence of kids watching
Yeah, I remember how each episode had a final animated segment where they would basically answer critical questions about how they presented things. Well! How powerful is Ms. Frizzle’s bus? Is it at Dr. Strange level, Dr. Fate level, Scarlet Witch level, Raven level, Ghost Rider level, John Constantine level, etc.?
I personally believe that before any of the adventures we ever see (because the kids all act like stuff like going to space is normal with Ms. Frizzle) Ms. Frizzle gave them the rundown that basically says: “Btw, the bus makes us all immortal whenever we use magic. We’re not invincible and could get sick after but it’s not like we’ll die.” Because they would have all died 10 times over per episode.
That shows how powerful the magic of the magic school bus is. The magic would also extend to anything the bus created, like the space suits and sun visors. And since only magic must defeat magic, the kids were fine
Maybe, but since the show never actually tells us outright, this theory still holds up. Also, does anyone else think it's funny that a show that teaches science relies so hard on MAGIC?
As a kid, I loved Ms. Frizzle and wanted her as a teacher so bad, but as an adult, I question how she was allowed to keep her teaching license while constantly endangering her students lives and taking so many field trips with zero permission 😅

That space episode is one of only 2 MSB episodes I have *always* remembered specifically (the other is the human body episode in Arnold) my whole life. The bit with Arnold freezing at the end was legitimately horrifying to me when I was a kid; and as I got older, I'm both surprised they got away with airing something that dark, but also impressed that they didn't shy away from legitimately how dangerous that would be irl, and making sure kids know that.
Those two episodes seem to stand out in my memories as well. I wonder why. I can certainly think of a few more if necessary, but those two really left an impression. Perhaps it's that element of danger present. However, wasn't there an episode where they infiltrated an ant colony? What if they all got eaten by ants? That's seems plenty dangerous! ... No wait, was it a bee hive? Either way, my point stands!
You forgot a few times that because it is a magic school bus with undefined logic, any time they didn't leave the bus, they would be fine. (ex, for the sun they don't have to deal with the radiation and stuff because they never left the bus.)
I still say the weirdest episode was when Phoebe got turned into a plant so she could be the giant bean stalk for their play of Jack and the Beanstalk. Ms. Frizzle literally turned one of her students into a plant!
This episode genuinely traumatized me when I watched it in class as a kid! Also since the class traveled to deep space and back in under a day, it’s possible they would have had to travel near the speed of light which might have caused time to warp and bend a bit. It’s likely a year or so may have passed on earth while the kids were in class for a day.
My family was ballin at one point and this show might have been on discovery kids. It was showed at school on special occasions and sometimes on our TV around 7am west coast time
Well, if the bus is magic, she must have some BS magic protection for herself, at least. This is probably why, in this show's universe, the students never die. Anyone think otherwise, or have a clip from another episode that says otherwise?
@@LokiEristhe bus isn’t magic. Frizzle is a demon. Liz is a lesser demon and The bus itself is the soul of a bus driver who drank and drove and killed all the children on a field trip. The kids are never harmed because the demon is taking them on fun adventures as a method to torture the bus driver for his negligence.
I think it would have been really funny to use MatPat's model for the whole video like normal but with Dan's voice. Thanks Dan for taking over this week! I appreciate everyone on the team for keeping the videos going
As much as I agree with the fact Ms Frizzle is the teacher in charge of these kids safety and is to blame. I would like to point out that the Jupiter gas into the bus blame is on Arnold’s cousin, Janet. Janet put the rest of this class (a class she isn’t even a part of) into more danger than necessary for her whole souvenir collection
EXACTLY! I absolutely HATED Janet; she deserved to be left on any of those planets because her endless desire to prove she was in space nearly killed them multiple times
I've literally been watching the magic school bus with my daughter recently and was shocked to see the space episode is the FIRST EPISODE. Like way to start it off with a bang. Would love love love to see you cover more episodes, I've seen all of them a few times each and believe me when I tell you it gets *weird*
she is a timelord (or a version of soufle girl, unable to die or even River song) and the bus is a tardis. The tardis produces a protective field around itself. Can change its form, has an interrior that has own rules .... it just makes sense.
I always wondered what happened when one of the kids had a doctors appointment or was late to school, meanwhile they rest of the class is shrunk to the size of a big to learn about ants lol
I think you guys are missing the mark. The real story here is how powerful the bus is. It’s magical on a massive level. It’s not “The Technologically Possible Bus.” Also, you’ve done a great job narrating this week!❤
As the animated representation of the show’s producers once stated, “it’s a MAGIC school bus” 😂 but seriously growing up is realizing that Arnold was right
You guys should do a follow-up theory for this! I think I heard a theory years ago about Miss Frizzle's class being clones of her original class, since they would obviously die a few times on field trips. It was a theory used to explain a few minor details about the show including the helmet scene. I'd love to see someone else cover it!
I heard that theory. Then again, the same guy who proposed it also claims that the Frizz is a gender bent time traveling Arnold with his only evidence being Frizzles love of pickels and a vague picture in her house, so I'm not sure how reliable he is...
We should have one video introducing everyone on the team just so we can celebrate their talents and them taking their own valuable time to create all theses masterpieces ❤🎉
I remember watching that episode as a kid and being very unnerved when he froze solid. I also seem to recall that, at the end of the show, it was an extraterrestrial being that called in to the producer to factcheck the program.
Carbon dioxide doesn't increase temperature it mantians temperature blocks heat in or out Venus spins the wrong way creating gravital fiction generating heat
Agreed. I kind of wish that they (and the others on the team, I bet they'd all bring a different energy to different scripts) would take over recording duties once and awhile even without a "reason." I'm sure that they rarely do due to UA-cam and their stupid algorithmic points, and that would do _x_ bad thing to _y_ and _z_ metrics; but I still wish it would happen.
I am so glad they made an episode about this. Ever since Alex Bale’s analysis on the show, I was waiting for team theorist to cover it, so now I can sleep in peace knowing that it’s happened.
5:29 I feel compelled to say here, that, although I’m sure it just had to be simplified for the sake of the time, molecules do not “release heat” upon collision, per say- they can transfer energy in the form of heat (their kinetic energy) between one another, but the collisions are not converting their kinetic energy into heat. It doesn’t help that heat usually specifically refers to transferred thermal energy, and not the the thermal energy itself, but still; the wording used makes it sound like kinetic energy was somehow being converted to thermal energy, while in reality, the kinetic energy just is the thermal energy, with heat being the energy transferred between two systems of different temperature (average kinetic energy). I don’t blame you for not getting into the weeds of it in this video, and I apologize if this comment sort of sounds like disorganized rambling (because I’m tired, and it is), but it felt hard to leave it be. Anyhow, thanks for the video, and I wish all of Team Theorist well
Not gonna lie, Arnold taking off his helmet was probably what turned me off from fantasizing about space travel for the rest of my life. It totally freaked me out, and I wouldn't be surprised if I had nightmares about it. I don't remember a single moment when I've ever actually wanted to go to space, because I'm terrified of something like that happening.
Having Head Editor Dan come on is like when your "tries to be cool" teacher Matt is out and they bring in the chill relaxed substitute teacher that just sits back all day. It's very nice.
In adition to the dangers of space, Frizzle has also taken her students on trips like inside other students. That's gotta be a serious biohazard. Frizzle should be behind bars for negligence, child endangerment, and maybe driving an unregistered vehicle.
Forget the biohazard, that is a major invasion of privacy... and I don't care whether or not the kid gave permission, there is a reason that children aren't allowed to give consent to certain things, and having your entire class enter your body definitely should be on the list of things that a child shouldn't be allowed to give consent to.
@@smileyeagle1021 That too. And what about when Frizzle turned the class into bees or shellfish or light beams. That’s gotta count for something right?
I remember the space trip episode very vividly. It was undoubtedly the worst decision for a field trip. Hoenstly, the volcano or diving into a student’s cut were a lot safer.
When they literally just went into his scab I almost threw up. So nasty and I'd imagine it wouldn't feel too good either to have a BUS drive into your scab
This episode is essentially a much more brutally honest version of the Producers Phone Call segment at the end of every episode. For those of you who weren't around in the 90s, every episode of "The Magic School Bus" ended with a segment in which "The Producer" of the show would receive a phone call from a fan who would then proceed to point out the more fantastical elements of the episode and how the kids shouldn't go thinking that it's possible to go to outer space on a bus. It was just a bit of fun, and an easy way to add a few more educational beats in before the end credits. This episode of Film Theory takes that concept and dials the honesty all the way up to 11.
I absolutely loved those segments. I loved the music when the scene started, the producers answering questions, Liz doing some random antic that sometimes defied what the producer said, all of it was so fun to me, I'm not sure why, but I really don't care, I just loved them, I'm really glad that they kept playing the show in schools even after it stopped airing, otherwise I would've missed out on an incredible show!

Considering their school bus is a short bus they are all probably high as kites from the meds she's been giving them in the Kool-Aid :)

That shows how powerful the magic of the magic school bus is. The magic would also extend to anything the bus created, like the space suits and sun visors. And since only magic must defeat magic, the kids were fine
Wonder if the kids from Harry Potter ever went on a space field trip like this? After all magic could do anything!!!🤭🤗
One more thing! Yu Mo Gui Gwai Fai Di Zao!

That show brought me so much joy as a kid. I honestly wished at some points I had a crazy teacher like the Frizz.
Who didn't love that show? Even people today love it and they still use it
That space episode is one of only 2 MSB episodes I have *always* remembered specifically (the other is the human body episode in Arnold) my whole life.
Why the heck are those two also the only two I remember
Same!!
Cuz bro tried to commit suicide
Me too!
Ms. Frizzle literally turned one of her students into a plant!
yusss
She also turned the class into water droplets once.
That one of the few episodes that always stuck with me. Probably top of the list though. I still have dreams relating to that episodes plot.
There was an episode where the kids got put into salmon eggs, and salmon fertilized them.
they also all turned into sea animals in one episode. and bees in another. it actually happens rather frequently!

The fact Ms. Frizzle manages to keep dodging the arrest warrants the FBI has for her is impressive-
well with a magic school bus, traveling trough space of course she can!
If I were to describe Miss Frizzle with one word, it would be "suspicious". You should do a theory about her, next.
she is a timelord (or a version of soufle girl, unable to die or even River song) and the bus is a tardis.
The tardis produces a protective field around itself. Can change its form, has an interrior that has own rules .... it just makes sense.
She's a Time-Lord from Gallifrey and her school bus is her Tardis. There, video over.
Maybe one about how it's Mary Poppins in witness protection.
She's some ex-DARPA scientist who was tasked with keeping the Lockheed Skunkworks' most powerful creation out of the hands of the Russians.
She is definitely River Song
I always wondered what happened when one of the kids had a doctors appointment or was late to school, meanwhile they rest of the class is shrunk to the size of a big to learn about ants lol
I think you guys are missing the mark. The real story here is how powerful the bus is. It’s magical on a massive level. It’s not “The Technologically Possible Bus.”

Another video with Dan, another opportunity to tell him and everyone who filled in for Mat they did great jobs!
