- Worst Defensive Inning in Baseball HISTORY! Mariners at Angels August 15, 22 9th Inning
The Mariners and Angels went into the 9th inning tied at 2 a piece in Mondays game. The Mariners would come out of the Inning scoring 4 runs with only two hits. This has got to be one of the worst innings a team has ever had in terms of mistakes. From incorrect counts to defensive miscues to a check swing HBP to end the game, this game will end up on MLB Highlight Reels and MLB Blooper Reels alike! The 2022 Seattle Mariners are vying for a playoff spot and the 2022 Los Angeles Angels gave them a helping hand. - Спорт
I didn't think the absurdity of Santana using Mariner Magic to gaslight his way into a walk would be topped, but the sight of Adell getting his hand hit, followed swiftly by the M's jolly little victory dance was able to do so LMAO

Carlos Santana straight up played some Jedi mind tricks to work that pinch-hit walk. Then D-Mo's pinch running was just too powerful. Distracting the rundown, knocking the pass incomplete at the plate.

those 13 innings was actually great interesting baseball. It could have lasted 19 innings and I'd have loved it.
YOU may think Loop almost caught that ball bare-handed; I think he almost lost the use of that hand for the rest of the season. The launch speed was 108 mph.

Catching liners with my meat hand was a bad habit of mine. It's why my throwing hand looks so funny. It still sort of worked. But I don't recommend doing it ever.

I was at the 13 inning game against the Yankees last week and was flabbergasted at some of their play. Not a Yankee fan at all and love my Mariners but I expected better from the Yankees, although glad it went our way. Have seen some weird and entertaining baseball in the last couple weeks! Go M's!

It's not uncommon for the plate umpire to miscount. The problem is that the A's have until the first pitch on the next batter to appeal. This isn't just a failure of the players, but all the staff in the A's team.

Personally, I think there was something weird underlying this compounded bizarreness. Somebody in the Angels' locker room forgot to sacrifice a chicken or the Scarlet Witch had money on the Mariners or a dusting of red kryptonite fell on the diamond as the Halos took the field and Laz was sweeping home plate but the Mariners were still under the cover of the dugout.
Craig, I think you're right 👀👀 if the Scarlet witch is making baseball bets, we all know she's a secret Mariners fan. Root for the underdog that becomes the bully

The Julio liner is an example of what speed does on a play. The second baseman probably can't beat Julio to first so he has to try for home. Haggerty is so fast that people were scrambling and may have contributed to Loup falling. Moore was running fast and hard that left the play at third out of place. We go to extras of that's Santana, France and Raleigh on the bases.

Man, umpires have done a seriously awful job this year all around the league. not that long ago they gave Yordan Alvarez an extra pitch bc they forgot the count and just like the Santana AB, no one noticed except for the radio crews.

I would argue that the Redsox's defensive performance in the fifth inning of that awful 28-5 game against the Bluejays was worse than this, but then again, all of these mistakes occurred in the infield, which is extra embarrassing.
This might be the most UNIQUE bad inning we've seen in baseball for a good long while at least.

That "walk" by Santana is squarely on Phil Nevin. What was he doing in the dugout, checking out the cute chicks in the stands? And the weirdest thing I ever saw at a baseball game (I was there) was when a runner tried to steal second, the catcher threw the ball and hit the pitcher on the back of the head. Runner was safe, pitcher was "out", momentarily.

If this half inning would have been executed by the Pittsburgh Pirates instead of the Angels, I would not have been surprised. I think something similar did happen earlier in the season by the Pirates with similar results.
I think the Pirates are the ones that got Javy Baez in a pickle between first and home last year

4:25 The problem with going for a reverse-force double play like that is that it would allow the go-ahead run to score in the ninth inning. So it’s go to second, throw home, or bust.
Yeah the timing is everything of course. If they have enough time, throw to first and then to home but naturally the runner on third is the biggest factor

Oh ya, I completely forget about that brawl. How many Mariners did those suspensions affect? And now, to pour a little salt on the wound. The Mariners hit one of the Angels in the hands, But the Angel player swung so therefore it was a strike and game over.
I think the Mariners are going to go for the jugular on the third game of this series. And sweep 🧹🧹🧹 the Angels. And the Mariners are doing it their way.
If the Mariners make the playoffs.
And Gilbert and Gonzalez pitch reasonably well. The Mariners are going to be a tough opponent against any team they face.

Just a reminder, that for two months, 40% of the Mariners hitting lineup. Was out due to injuries or suspensions. And the Mariners won 14 straight games.
And now, what we see is the Mariners at full strength. And that was on full display against the Angels.
If the Mariners and Astros play in a series in the playoffs. I'm going to put my money where my mouth is and I'm going to bet Seattle beats the Astros in that series.
