2:10 As a Red Sox fan, I had the same thought of wondering why he isn’t running after the ball, but I watched it a few more times and I think I know why. It looks like the ball bounced on the warming track, and hit the top of the wall before landing back on the warning track. By the time Duran sees the ball, it looks like it is falling down from the wall, almost as if it was a home run and simply fell out of the stands. Either that, or he simply saw Verdugo running towards it and just didn’t run

@@djsmith2871 there was a Red Sox vs Mariners series last year where the Mariners made a 9th inning comeback because Boston outfielders kept dropping fly balls
Any way you look at it, this was an amazing game, it had everything. The game was full of hi-lites (or low-lites). I want to point out some interesting numbers. The Jays had 29 hits in the game and NO triple, this means the team didn't hit for the cycle. But the Jays DID have a home run cycle as they had a solo shot, a two-run shot twice, a three-run shot, and a grand slam !!! Tapia had a great night at the plate, hitting the inside-the-park grand slam and almost getting a second grand slam (5 or 6 feet short of going over the Green Monster). He could have scored easily standing up and without sliding, but I gave him 9/10 for style points for the head first slide. I was disappointed that the Blue Jays couldn't break the record for most runs in a game. In the top of the 9th, with 2 men on and 1 out, against a position player pitching, they didn't hit the home run to set the record for runs in a game !!! The Blue Jays had a tea party in Boston that night !!!
Yooo. That hit batter after the in the park home run. Goes to prove everything you say about batters in positions and “position baseball”. You talked about it with the tie game last week. So cool to take that lesson and watch better baseball haha. Thank you man and I appreciate the hard work.
The Jays always send an away crew, the shared broadcast is only a thing at Fenway because of the design of the park and the limited space for camera set up.

Pat Tabler and Dan Shulman were in Boston as was a dugout reporter. I can't speak for any other production staff. The radio PBP guy Ben Wagner is still in Toronto for away games I believe.
In fairness, of Eovaldi's last 4 pitches, 3 were strikes and the umpire called all 4 as balls. I mean at that point might as well not even play the game. That should have been included in the breakdown, along with how we got 6-0 down in the first place.
As a Jays fan this was so epic to watch. But dude Duran you gotta go after the ball man. It felt like little league and he had a meltdown and didn't want to play!!
He wasn’t getting to the ball first tho, I don’t get these comments, it’s better for him to stay a cutoff he’s also originally a shortstop, also this is coming from a Yankees fan I have no love for Boston
The play blew up on the r/baseball subreddit. I criticized the hell out of Duran for showing no effort. People commented that he probably saw the ball bounce and thought it bounced out of the stands and was a home run. Then others mentioned there was no way he didn’t hear Verdugo or someone else yelling the ball is still in play. Get the fucking ball. Or he didn’t notice Verdugo was running his ass off to get the ball. He wouldn’t do that if it was a Homer. TLDR Duran should be sent down to low A to figure out his defense and what it means to hustle.
It's rather amazing that I recently went to see a Yanks/Red Sox game in Boston and it was the most electric stadium outside of a soccer game, going back and forth with home run bombs early until the Sox took the lead and never looked back... And then they do this. I can't believe I have to say I'm glad I'm a Met fan right now. ...Yes, I went to a Red Sox home game versus the Yankees as a *Met* fan, shut up-
Now admittedly I'm not a ballplayer, haven't even played organized ball at any level since I was like 9, but I'm still genuinely baffled as to how Duran even lost that fly ball to begin with. It was pretty dark out, I don't think the Sun was in his eyes - someone can correct me but I'm _pretty_ sure the Sun sets, from the CF's perspective, to the right of Fenway - and there are _no_ lights to straightaway center at all, only the light-banks to the left and right of the backstop. Between that and the total lack of effort in getting the ball, I'm stunned they even had him play the next day, where shockingly he went 0-for-4 in another loss.
I believe the sun was to the right of his eyes there, but I doubt that was how he lost it. I believe he just lost the ball off of contact, it happens with a lack of focus. Mistakes happen
You missed what set the tone for that game, which is the Sox pitcher early in the game, deciding to throw the ball at first...instead of throwing the ball at home plate to retire Vlad by a mile. From that point, Boston pretty much played beer league baseball.
Hi. Good point about setting the tone for that game. Back in 1971, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Detroit Red Wings 13-0, and had 7 goals in the 3rd period. Early in that game a Detroit player tried to hit a rushing Leaf defenceman, and instead hit another Detroit player. Both Detroit players went down hard. And then the Detroit player who made the hit was given a charging penalty. I had not seen that sort of thing before. Another example of setting a kind of demoralizing tone for a game.
@@stephenjones5304 LMAO! The Detroit charging penalty is almost as bad as an NBA ref who shoved the player who had the ball, and proceeded to call a foul on the defender.
Not a red sox fan... Fan of seeing them getting destroyed, but... games like this are complete wastes of time, energy, and players' durability. Losing team should be asked each inning if they'd like to forfeit after going down 10 runs.
the fact that both of the corner outfielders beat the CF to the ball directly into center field by about a hundred + feet while he just stands there is a ROUGH look…
I truly truly believe that Duran in the moment thought it was a home run that bounced off the stands back onto the field, i think by the time he realized something was up it was too late and verdugo with a full head of steam was gonna get there before he could which is why it looked like he was about to start running and then went back to a walk, i know how numb you get after making an error so he was likely embarrassed that he lost the ball which led to him making a mental error
He did not think that. His words. He thought Verdugo was going to get it. He said he thought he should have mad a step or two to make it look like he was going after it. I shit you not.
The way the Red Sox we’re playing in this game reminds me of the beginning of the movie Angels In The Outfield when the Angels couldn’t do anything right
3:40 It actually can be an error if the ball isn’t touched, but it’s not an error if it is a mental error or miscommunication. So a ground ball untouched between a fielders legs would be an error while a dropped pop up usually isn’t leading to the misconception that the ball must be touched for an error to occur.
I salute you for giving credit where credit is due. This was 90% Red Sox. In fact, we’d all be justifiably angry if the Jays hadn’t scored more than 20 runs. 😂
I was checking the Yankees score on ESPN as always but when I saw the Blue Jays were up 27-4 after 6 innings I immediately turned on the TV to the station and was in disbelief. And ofc wit my luck they only scored 1 run when I watched the last 3 innings but it was crazy 😂😂

I was never going to support the Yankees for example. I dunno if I can support both at once really, cos they're both in the American league. If one was in the national league it'd make more sense. I dunno. I'm half English and half Welsh so I already support two teams in international sports lol.

Either that, or he simply saw Verdugo running towards it and just didn’t run
looked much worse from the home plate cam, but damn that's SUCH a bad look.
You never walk towards the ball in the outfield. He could have at least ran after it and pulled up when Verdugo got there. I played CF for 8 years as a kid and that hurt seeing that lol
Missing the ball (even by THAT much) can be forgiven....
The lack of hustle can't.
He said that he knew Verdugo was running after it and was going to get their first, and that he didn't want to get in the way. Terrible excuse.

I live in Boston, and watching the people walking to their cars in full Sox attire dead inside while sitting at a bar was quite the experience.
As a huge red Sox fan, this hurt to see. Duran doesn't seem to try much in the outfield. Just because you're down a lot in a game like this doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

I can't even imagine the ass reaming I would've received had I just given up on a ball in the outfield that I missed like that when I played as a kid

3:40 It actually can be an error if the ball isn’t touched, but it’s not an error if it is a mental error or miscommunication. So a ground ball untouched between a fielders legs would be an error while a dropped pop up usually isn’t leading to the misconception that the ball must be touched for an error to occur.
as a jays fan, i would like to thank the red sox skill over the weekend to bring me happiness
@Don't get on the bus, Cliff mad cuz bad
I salute you for giving credit where credit is due. This was 90% Red Sox. In fact, we’d all be justifiably angry if the Jays hadn’t scored more than 20 runs. 😂
The title is perfect lmao
Was waiting for this breakdown
Funny too see that duran was that center fielder and he’s on a tear right now, this moment definitely woke him up and made him grind 😂
Sounds like it's your fault they didn't break the record 😂
Imagine Toronto get's home field advantage for the world series.
1/4 of most top players can't come to Canada. We've found the cheat code boyz.
Or the Blue Jays make the playoffs, MLB says we can't have mega-stars (Judge) sitting out nationally televised playoff games because of Tyrannical Canada, and all your "home games" are flexed to a "neutral site" in Texas a la 2020 world series.
@@mikewebster8224 The rules are clearly insane (even though I see Jays fans that are happy about it) but the US has the same rules technically for international travel. They should scrap the whole thing. I'm a Jays fan. I want to see Arenado and Goldy play when STL is in town because I want the best baseball!
@@mikewebster8224 "TyRaNniCal CaNaDa" as if the USA doesn't have the exact same rules 💀
@@claytonmoore754 I agree. I am as anti-mandate as they come. I would advise every foreigner to avoid traveling to the US and spending any tourism dollars here until this far-left regime comes to its sense, or is no longer able to enforce draconian law
Now the jays are going to loose 7 games straight, because that's what they always do....
Great observation on the Toronto broadcast
I’m so glad someone took a video and posted my 5th grade baseball game. I remember these games well. We sucked so bad.
Wait…
This is a major league game?
