Worked at a country club and during the summer months we would always do seafood buffets... I hated shucking those bastards. But I definitely satisfied my curiosity about them
I just ate my first oyster. It wasn’t that bad. Actually a beautiful experience and tasty.
I imagine it's cold kinda slimy and really salty... what does it taste like? Is it super fishy? Like I don't like the taste of scallops

I've eaten plenty of oysters raw on the half shell and cooked in stew, but I only chew around the edges of them. I still can't bite into the guts without being weirded out by the thought of what's still in there.

I had my first oyster this month - February 2024 - it tasted of sea water, but it was weirdly also nice. Can't wait to try more!

After having a bad oyster 15 years ago (extremely sick) I have been a little wary. Love Kilpatrick or Mornay oysters. Cannot stand raw ones anymore.

I once mixed oysters with a copious amount of vodka. I haven't been able to eat oysters since. Vodka...I got over it.
I actually got to eat my first one few days ago. It's not that bad, but I think I prefer the grilled one. I like sashimi, but the thing is I always having a hard time if the food is too chewy or slimy, so I had to do some "surgery" to my oyster first XD
I LOVE oysters. I usually eat a few as is, but I prefer horseradish, a bit of lemon juice and dabs of Tabasco. A little sacrilegious, but hey that's how I like to enjoy them.

I too just had a couple RAW. I would describe it as a interesting very fulfilling and healthy type of meal and it’s not gross as I thought. Makes me feel healthy. I would eat them again.

Texture is a major player in eating foods for me, and I just can’t get over the texture of Shellfish….all shellfish. It’s the rubbery-ness of crustaceans and oysters/clams, and raw seafood just immediately activates my gag reflex, so I unfortunately rarely eat sushi, unless it’s smoked fish or imitation crab…
Ok why do I keep hearing, within the same videos and articles, "shucking them kills them" and then "they're alive when you eat them"

I have tried a lot of oysters and you're not experiencing the full flavor if you don't put some kind of acid on them like fresh squeezed lemon or classic vinegar mignonette of: red wine vinegar, chopped shallots, and cracked black pepper

Oysters are without a doubt my favourite food. Totally agree to go purist too: nothing added to it. I don’t want my oyster to taste like lemon or Tabasco. I have eaten them since I was 8 years old and have never tried one cooked!

Absolutely agree, the taste is delicate, put strong flavours on it and you ruin the oyster. Gotta shuck it then eat it (chew not swallow), nothing else.

@@gregn8309 just chew it normally how you would any other food, there’s nothing special about how you eat it. Swallowing it whole just means you don’t get any flavour, the same as if you swallowed a piece of steak whole, you wouldn’t get any actual steak taste out of it.

@@Michael1M6 I have good news for you. It was probably just a low-quality variety. I’ve had oysters that mainly taste like saltwater, sure, but it’s not « nasty ». (A little tip when you get lower quality oysters - pour some of the liquid out beforehand)
On the flip side.. actual good quality oysters don’t even taste of saltwater AT ALL. They’re meaty, have plenty of great different flavours and I can’t imagine anyone finding that nasty.
Remember kids, if you’re gonna eat oysters, buy them fresh and high quality, the extra money is WELL worth it.

Stay away from the chunky ones (vertically chunky with the big sacs). Wide is fine, but the flatter the better.

I put a few drops from a fresh lemon, horseradish, and Tabasco. The dude in this video is silly. They are much better garnished.
So you don’t swallow. Do you chew it up entirely like any other food, or just a little bit, or…
I tend to chew a little. There's a lot of liquid in them, so they chew fairly easily but you definitely don't want to just slurp them straight down your throat. That takes out all the enjoyment.

I tried a raw oyster once. I was told by my friend to "hurry up and swallow it". I tasted nothing but the ocean. Yeah, I can totally live without ever eating an oyster again!
My great grandfather and my girlfriend turned me on to raw and fried oysters. I had a good friend who was a chef that I rented out one of my houses to he was the best oyster chef in Louisiana.

oysters have no nervous system and cannot feel, also wake up to reality. Emotion over logic is common nowadays, most animals get eaten alive in nature. People in modern society seem to forget life isnt a fairy tale
