  • Spartan Up ep 60
In this episode, Dr. Fred Bisci tells Joe De Sena, Spartan Race founder and CEO, how to cut out processed foods from our diet to vastly improve health and athletic performance. In his case, though, “processed” also means any form of cooking. Bisci has found through fifty years of eating a raw vegan diet that meat and cooked foods are optional - and may even be detrimental. Incredibly active at age 85, Bisci certainly makes a good case. Yet he urges us not to follow his and Joe’s example: instead of taking the extreme measure of going 100% raw from the start, try making a more gradual transition.
    Lessons:
    1. In Bisci’s experience, athletic performance can be amazing on a diet of only raw fruits and vegetables.
    2. If switching to a purely raw diet is too extreme, the most important way to improve your diet is to eliminate processed food, anything from a can or a box.
    3. When coming off of the standard American diet onto this one, it’s common to go through a detox period in which you’ll feel ill. Persist through it and you’ll feel great eventually.

Two big thumbs up! I cut out meat a little over two years ago. I'm not yet eating a raw vegan diet but I'm working to improve every day! Since I cut out meat, I have finished a marathon, numerous half marathons and this summer, to celebrate my 50th year, I earned my first Spartan Trifeca. From an obese couch potato with high blood pressure to a Spartan in under 5 years! Aroo!

@@MasculineIdeal I focus on fruits. Salads as additional, spices and sweet potatoes, rice and potatoes.
All in all a big improvement, but it is still individual. I e.g. don't tolerate beans and wheat that much others do and eating a lot raw can detox you. So if you wanna try it experiment and follow you feeling, but go for it. If you on the other hand stop to early that is also not good. It takes some adaptation, but gets easier. Most of it was just bad habits, they go away.
By no means do I have infinite power but I definitely increased in energy and clarity.

Check out Proteinaholic by Dr. Garth Davis. Don’t worry about losing muscle muscle on a lower protein diet. Read this book and you’ll understand why. :)
Dr. Collin T. Campbell headed the largest nutritional study ever conducted ANYWHERE, says min 6-10% protein is all we need. Part of the experiment was on mice being fed whey protein - they were literally turning on and off cancer growth.
The range? Anything over 15-20% protein. Under 12% - cancer stopped growing and even regressed.
W.H.O. also suggests 6 grms / 2.2 lbs of body weight.
The U.S. is obsessed with protein, but all you need is sufficient calories to support muscle growth and you’re all set. 👍
      I’m 37 F, 120 and I eat 3000 calories a day around 10% protein, high raw, whole plant-based. I did 80 pull ups yesterday. Feeling amazing!
Cut out the meat and dairy you’ll feel super human! Blessings to all! Wonderful interview.

Possibly what you need is a juice extractor. A proper juicer is not the same as a blender. A blender will cut up the fruits and green veg into small bits suspended in water but for proper green juice you need a juice extractor which will rip open the cells of the greens so the fluids from inside the cells is released. Its totally different. Google Juice Extractors and you will get the picture. Some are expensive and work on a cold press process with a screw, and others have a sort of rotating cutter and centrifuge. Those are not so expensive but not quie such good quality juice as they tend to cauxe some heat in the process.

All oil is poison. It's great for making machinery run well, but it's really bad for our bodies in the quantities we consume. It's an incredibly unnatural substance. Imagine how many olives you would need to get half a cup of oil. If you want oil in your diet then eat the whole olives. Google Drs Caldwell Esselstyn, John Mcdougall, Tim Riesenberger, etc. No oil = no heart disease, diabetes, etc.

Fruit is the easiest thing for us humans to digest. For real, don’t worry about it. You can eat tons of fruit and tear right through it. The fructose in whole fruits and veggies won’t spike your insulin or blood glucose much, so there’s no crash. I did a 7-day juice fast recently. Juiced fresh fruits and veggies all day. I drank about 1.5 gallons of fresh juice each day and I felt amazing. My skin improved, energy was sky high and I didn’t miss solid food at all. I even worked out (calisthenics) 5 of those 7 days and my workouts were insane. I outperformed myself each workout. Anyway, I’m rambling now. Fruit is incredible. Don’t shy away from it.

I think more importantly it is to follow lifestyle as per your locality or region. People in cold regions will have to consume animal fats and protein to survive, but also vegetables. Fish is staple food of people mostly in coastal regions since their body is adjusted as per humid conditions. But for tropical regions they mostly prefer mostly fruits in diet.

Where do the great apes and other herbivores get their protein? Green leaves. Packed with amino acids, minerals and much more.

@@catherinemontblanc1430 The lighting affects the appearance of his skin tone in the video. I was raw vegan for one year, 10 years ago in my mid-50's-- I never felt/looked better in my life. I wish I never switched back to eating cooked. Check out Annette: www.thefruitdoctor.com/annette-larkins-ageless-raw-vegan-70-year-old-woman/ The key to doing it right is actually doing it right. Many raw vegans skip the greens and the sprouts which are essential. Annette grows her own food and is extremely well educated. People get lazy and default to consuming lots of sweet and starchy fruits, and too many nuts and avocados. I have worked in the natural products industry for over 35 years and most vegans and vegetarians are much healthier than paleo/keto carnivores, or even worse-- SAD eaters. 🙏🏼💕 I am transitioning back to raw now which is why I visited this video. Also, Brian Clement and his wife Anne Marie of the Hippocrates Health Institute are amazing examples of raw vegans.
