    If you've never made a mistake you've never made anything.
    Full returns from your first YB race of the season, is much more important. That's an awesome performance.
    Steady as she goes, brilliant foundation to build upon.

    i raced one old bird in 2012 i sent it to every race the comebacks and every channel race came home every time and never won anything but it did every old bird race there was and still not bad for a stray that was given to me by the owner from northeast ,its not always about winning it the enjoyment is more important and i used to do well with my young birds

    I mean i think you had a really good race, here in belgium the first young bird races all went terrible because of the bad wind. I lost 50% of my birds. When my birds keep flying around the loft for a few minutes it just showes me they are really fit and the distance wasn’t far enough. So i think it was a good race!

    thing with bob wires I think the birds don't like things touching them on their backs ect . where as angled entrance there is nothing touching them ,they just fall in easier . I know everyone thinks differently this is just my opinion, right or wrong. as soon as a bird lands on the let board there is something in there way (bobs) . this bloke needs to be on the TV I've said it before . he has a knack a natural way of narrating example .. holidays, houses . and places to travel. he is a natural. his voice overs are great too..

    It's hard to get good results when you are not able to put the time in. No substitute for experience. One thing I noticed you were getting after your son, I used to do the same thing with mine and the results were that they started to resent the birds and the hobby. They are 40 now and hate the birds. Something to think about.

    Hi this is not a criticism, just from my own experience, if the birds are used to your boys kicking a ball about or making noise try not to be to hard on them, for me when I kept them I wouldn't let mine make a noise or my wife hang the washing out, it had to be quiet and still when they returned, that in its self is not normal for the birds, plus it tended to put the family off the birds, try a training toss with the boys playing it might surprise you, as i say this is just my thoughts and if I ever raced again I wouldn't be so paranoid, congratulations on a good race

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon

      I've got different floors. The old birds have grates so droppings can fall through them so parasites aren't as easily picked back up. The young birds have easybed with a bit of loftwhite underneath. This worked really well in the new loft this year.

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon
      @howtotrainyourpigeon  Рік тому

      Yeah it was out and put in a basket. I think just to make sure it isn't late because of being ill. They're all mixing with 1,000 other birds from different lofts every week now so I'm not sure how useful it is in race season?

    • @desburke7786
      @desburke7786 Рік тому +1

      Come on DAN, we spoke plenty about all this in the past, if a bird is missing for more than a day or so, it needs 2 be basketed away from the rest and checked and if need be treated, when there out you don't no if there in a barn with feral birds drinking from there water source ETC ETC. You can't risk a healthy team for the sake of1. He can race the second half of the season if need be, yes there on a transporter with 1k+ birds or in big feds 12k+ birds, but they share a basket and drinker with 19 or 20 others not the whole transporter, I'd be well worried what they pick up out and about on there way home than the transporter itself, mite have went into a non racing fancier who doesn't no anything about pigeon racing and birds health, probably never seen a pick stone or grit let alone anything else you have there like. Sorry for going on DAN but 1 Bird is not worth the health of 35 others and potentially ruining the rest of you're season, please don't take this 2 heart DAN I love watching you're birds and season and you fucking up the pad and stuff it's like in the title rookie errors, I do have you and you're birds best interest at heart honestly, DES

      @@howtotrainyourpigeon Des Burke 's message says it all fella. & my message was only 2 help u .we need pigeon men 2 stay in the sport and not get sticking with bird losses birds never on time paying 2 get birds back I could go on &on. • @howtotrainyourpigeon
      @howtotrainyourpigeon  Рік тому

      @@desburke7786 I think you misunderstood Des. I separated the latecomers. However, it's a half measure and doesn't keep disease away when the whole team is mixing with birds from 7 or 8 other lofts on the transporter. The difference there is you don't spot it until several days after the race, by which time they've all been mingling. If one bird in a crate is sick, the rest eat the contaminated seed, then bring disease back to the loft and we're none the wiser. Meanwhile any latecomers are banished to a quarantine crate for days on end while the loft gets exposed in other ways. Not much we can do about it mind, hence my previous comment.

    • @desburke7786
      @desburke7786 Рік тому +1

      @howtotrainyourpigeon Dan my reply was based on you're reply 2 this chap, which you then edited, the part of it all that caught my eye and actually frightened me as the part when you said there in a transporter with 1k+ birds etc etc , so I pointed out only 1 basket/pannier there in etc etc, most times you get 1 back late, weather it be hours or days is because they have over shot you're loft, here our birds end up in northern Ireland, they have 2 south road feds that swamp our 12k+ fed if timing is not right between all 3 feds. We only have 1 North Road fed and its tiny nd they generally get there race ruined weekly, Its a no brainer in England you guys have multiple feds going all directions on a race day, and so most times this is why you're birds can be days late, just worried about what they pick up in there few days out potentially, so you have the power 2 separate them on there late return 2 cover you're arsenal and make sure they don't bring owt back with them. As for the ones in the basked that return well or a tad late on race day that where in with birds from 7 other lofts in there basket, well that's generally in the lqp of the gods, you have still not told any1 to this day what you put in the drinker or over the food nd that's you're choice dan, but surely you're treating them every other week for coxy and canker and weekly for stress, and using apple cider vinegar 2 clean them out either race day return or the following day, next day for stress, following day maybe plain water, next day multi vets next day B12 boost that brings you up 2 Wednesday me personally I would have gave them Baytrill of the days in-between as I have stated before, so that brings you Thursday and then take the drinker away that night and give them water Friday a couple of hours before basketing so they all fill up and coz they don't eat Friday it makes sure they drink, some people get a syringe and squirr it down into there crop and fill them if you have the time, just incase they don't drink in the race basket because of 1nor 2 bully's at the drinker fighting over space, at the end of the day alot of the lads have you and youre birds best interests at heart including myself, hope Saturdays race gone went well, we await you're next video, cheers des

    Charlie asked which one woyld you nominate if you could and you said you would no after the race, but since every one started using the pads for racing, the also use them for every single training toss aswell. So maybe going forward have the pad on for training also??.
    It definitely looked to me that the race was not far enough for youre birds with them circiling for 2 mins 20 seconds before landing, but it also looks to me that you fed them on basketing day and maybe that youre feeding them well more than an ounce per day, am i close to guessing why it happened DAN ?? 😊

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon
      @howtotrainyourpigeon  Рік тому +1

      Haha not on this occasion. Half feed on basketing day. I just think they're very fit at the moment and the race distance too short.

    • @desburke7786
      @desburke7786 Рік тому

      @howtotrainyourpigeon I'd personally put it down to the half feed DAN, they where keen enough and fast enough unlike long distance birds that would be slow in a sprint, so that half feed to me is 100% the reason why they did several laps of honour and not hitting the landing board with the wings in the air that are like 28 day old baby's only away from the nest, cos if there hungry that's how they would carry on, as I said 2 you before we call it "BEING ON THE CAN", next season get a whistle and on blow home like this race and there up in the air like dots they will hear the whistle easier than you whistling, just like the birds they neighbours will get use 2 the whistle also 😜 😀

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon
      @howtotrainyourpigeon  Рік тому +1

      @@desburke7786 it's a compromise isn't it. I didn't want to send them too hungry in case of a bad race and they go missing or head the wrong way. I think I got feed amount just right considering the risks. 100% returns was more important at this stage

    • @desburke7786
      @desburke7786 Рік тому +1

      @howtotrainyourpigeon yes DAN definitely at this stage, last ting is you want is a bang and go loose half you're team, there's always next week and the week after and so on, but you could go all season and loose 2 or 3 in 10 races witch would be super, and go and loose 30 out of 35 in the last race cos you guys where very unlucky and got a smash race, and birds are reported all over the country, and I'm not trying 2 put the tingy on you but it does happen I've seen it happen, and like I said before you don't own them, you only have a loan of them, that's unless you give them 5 races and put them away for next season, them you no you have X amount for next season for sure. Its all a guessing game really, you live for today as tomorrow is never promised, and that's a very true saying in pigeon racing and liglfe in general, all you can do is enjoy it for now dan and see what the future brings, but Deffo drop the feed on basket day pal
