  • To race young racing pigeons in 2023 work needs to be done. The DIY pigeon loft for the young birds is finally taking shape and so now it's time to fill it. Looking for the best racing pigeons, buying racing pigeons and entering futurity ring races with the NRCC.

    Hello,
    I've been watching you! That sounds creepy, I raced birds in the late 80's as a child mostly for fun.
    I really enjoy your approach and the information you provide. Because of your channel I am building a loft and have contacted many top lofts in my area Utah, I have 24 birds coming in March from top breeders. Thank you for lighting the fire.

    10% wheat, 90% cocaine, brilliant..lol..yeah feed is becoming very expensive, mix some barley in with your feed, it makes it last longer good carbs and protein in barley. Low fat.

    Master feeding = Master racing.
    Definitely a large part of being successful is knowing how and what and when to feed.
    If you're serious about distance racing, I highly recommend the books of Jim Emerton, "Pigeon Man" "Pigeon Racing" and "In conversation"

    as long as you have pigeons from proven winning stock the rest is simply down to the fancier to train them to break from the race point & fly home for its rewards as quick as possible (motivation) don't get sucked into pills & potions. train them to win its only complicated if you make it . best of luck👍

    Ps they seem to have very good long distance birds and over the decades the wattles seem to be very large as you would see on a old bird BUT THEY CAN BE YEARLINGS it's the same with the covering around the eye's in my opinion it helps the cope with wind and cold temperatures what do you think

    Another great video Dan, I wouldn't get to bogged down on mix's for breeding, I've seen them reared on old versale laga mix's pea's beans and tares, even the cheapest going at the time 20 - 30years ago. It's the heavy mix of peas you feed them after weening once there eating well and as much as they want right during the darkness so they are big and solid and to help with new flight growth also, then you're onto a racing mix and begging you're weighing of there food right trough lift flying training up to there first race, that's when you concentrate on what feed. Do the same as last season, if it's not broke why change it Dan ?, And you have to sections now so you're second string will take over after the first rounders tire and loose form, and all going well you can stop the first round and put them away for next year's old birds and enjoy you're second rounders, I'm delighted a Belgian lad is friending you young birds Dan. We are having a lier market here in Dublin in 3 weeks time, and am planning on buying you 2-3 baby's at it, from some of dublins top flyers that are selling at the auction, I am trying 2 arrange getting them back to England that day as there is English lads coming for said auction I have even asked Naomi from dream team lofts who is 30 odd mins up the motor way from you if she would take them back, so I will let you no how I get on Dan

    • @howtotrainyourpigeon
      @howtotrainyourpigeon  Рік тому

      Thanks for the offer Des. Unfortunately I don't have room this year as I'm having to turn birds down now but that could be something fun to try next year? Annoyingly the two pairs I really wanted young from only had one fertilised egg each on the first round. They've just laid for the second round but I wasn't planning on letting them sit a second round as racing season starts in April and these are my only birds to race with. I do have the fantail and her cock bird who I might float 2 eggs under, but that'd mean leaving a hen in with the boys when I part them next week...

    • @desburke7786
      @desburke7786 Рік тому +2

      @@howtotrainyourpigeon definitely alllways next year Dan. Just an idea about you wanting to fly birds to the furthest race point, most lads that fly long distance only train young birds and never race them, and then as yearlings race them 2-3 times, and then put them away to race them as 2 year olds. This is all well and good but you need room realistically, witch at the moment you don't have alot of. Maybe next year u will have a bigger old bird loft and young bird loft also, we shall see.
      As for floating under the fantail and and his hen, you could build them a small stand alone unit in you're garage or in the young bird loft just for a few weeks untill the eggs hatch and the young are reared, or leave the hen in with the cocks untill she stops feeding the baby's at 10-12 days old and that's when the cock takes over feeding and you can remove the hen, I've seen alot of lads do that with all the widowhood cocks, just and idea for us you to muddle over.
      Cheers des

    Hello Dan I have been watching your youtube channel for sometime now, you are making some very nice pigeon videos BTW. But there is no reason to race a big team of pigeons,. you will win or lose regardless the size of your race team TBH, only very good pigeons will win again & again. My only advice to you is DO Not buy just good pigeons.... If I would start all over again I would go to the # 1 and #2 loft in UK and look for of the distance I prefer and only buy the late bred YB from their very best pair. Because you pay for the same amount of money to feed bad one just same as good ones. Also never buy anything from just a pigeon auction unless it's a death sale of a top loft.
