Really enjoy how this video isn’t fussy-just a straightforward demonstration of a thorough DIY process. Wish this had been filmed before I started “soundproofing” my Model Y!
I have been using this in home audio and in automobiles for quite some time. I have found that products similar to this, including name brand products help to reduce piece from rattling and it makes the exterior panels more dense, and perhaps some noise reduction from coming into the car, but I haven't found it to be effective in reducing tire noise. I haven't placed it in my Model Y yet, but for my previous cars, IS350 and Acura RDX, I didn't find it effective for reducing road noise but more rattles. It does help your doors shut more solid, like an expsive sedan. This material did improve my sound systems (better bass) and reduced rattles from my after market JL Audio subwoofers in my previous vehicles. You did a GREAT job but to really reduce road noise , you will also need to apply mass loaded vinyl. You put in a lot of work, so kudos to you. I am curious that since Teslas do not have ICE engines under the hood, how much noise reduction can be expected even if mass loaded vinyl is used in the funk area. You "may" get a slightly better bang for the buck if this is used under the wheel wells. By the way, this was my experience in my past two vehicles. My RDX was a but noisy so I pretty much gutted the interior and got little noise reduction in using a similar product.
Thanks. I’m so tempted to try this. Also swapping my 21” wheels & low profile tires for 18” wheel and tires with much more sidewall will help (primarily doing this for more comfort on long road trips coming soon).
I just got mine on Sunday and thinking the same swapping the 21 inch with 18 probably Martian MW03 with decent 235/55r18 tires. Just don't know which color wheels to pick to go with my Gray model Y.
I did this in my 3, the biggest difference was doing it in the fender wells and under the center console and the floor under the driver and passenger feet. The floor has almost 0 sound deadening in it.
Great work with the sound deadening. Do you have any before and afters on db reduction? Like driving over the same road, and different speeds? Is the difference noticeable? Does your MY have the comfort suspension?
I haven't tested with db meter before but I can do after but there is no point now, but I noticed 40-50% road noise reduction and most rattles are gone only hear squeezing from real seat and some rattles from B pillar, I am planning for alcantara upgrade through out the interior that time I'll try to fix remaining rattles
@@TeslaOwnerCA my Y rattles/ squeses most - from the trunk area, when turning over an elevatet surface, like driveway sidewalk ect. Would you have an ide of why - and what to do?
Good job. but i think you will get very little out of all that compared to the impact of the tires, and the lack of soundproofed glass. Have you done dB measurements before and after?
Thank you! I’ve ordered alubutyl, foam tape and some other soundproofing materials and will be doing exactly the same procedure. Did you cover your subwoofer as well?
Do you have the names and sizes/measurements of the things you used (foam tape, felt/fabric tape, etc)? Like how thick is that foam tape you used? I'm in the US so not gonna gonna ask for specific links but trying to find foam tape that is not too thick.
@@TeslaOwnerCA Thanks so much! ❤ I'll prob try sound proofing some areas (esp trunk area) when the weather here gets warmer (maybe sometime next year).

Mine is quite on smooth surfaces but used to rattle on rough surfaces before fix, still rattles but on very rough surfaces. My friend’s 2024 model Y is same. I guess 2024 redesigned model 3 is quieter
I don’t have db meter, but I explained in one of the reply, overall road noise reduced by 40-50% including thud and booming noise. interior rattles reduced significantly only rattles on rough surfaces
The life of a Tesla owner. I can't stand long drives on the highway with my Model 3. The road noise makes it hard to have a conversation with people in the car.
There are little black risers in the trunk that can be adjusted (twisted) higher so there is less pressure. Also the latch on the bumper can be lowered too. Note if you adjust the risers too high, you have a potential of leaks and the trunk gap will be more pronounced. This will how ever reduce the pressure from the hatch bouncing around when you hit a bump. Hope this helps
bcz once you buy it you can't return 😀, I test drove MYLR with 19" wheels but that wasn't that bad. if I new this issue before I might have bought ICE but there are not much EV options in the market.
I know, I hate how you cant even test drive the car you have reserved for purchase. You have to accept and pay for the car before you can drive but then there’s no returning the car after that if you have problems. You have to deal with Tesla service 🤬
Legally the burden to prove the modification caused a warrantied failure is on the manufacturer. But, manufacturers also know it will cost the consumer more in legal fees to prove it then it would cost to fix it. So typically a manufacturer will just deny a warranty based on a mod and unless it's blatantly obvious or a very expensive fix, the owner will just accept the denial. You can fight it, but if it's a part that costs $200 to fix, why pay $2,000 in legal fees to fight it? . You can go ahead and take the risk. After all, what are the chances for Tesla to find out , it's hidden right...
@TeslaOwnerCA well if you ever need a thousand dollars. I would pay you to correct all my rattles and creaking. Haha if I still own the car of course. Haha
I had rattling in the front area of the dashboard in my Y performance and happened to come across a video that showed that the cowling under the frunk hood was making the sound due to the loose plastic clips! I bought black rubber foam material that you cover pipes with to insult from Home Depot . I cut them in pieces to fit in the clip area and wow my car is super quiet 😊.the video is Fix Tesla front rattle clicking noise fast and easy! UA-camr: BrownEyesSnoopy. Hope this helps 😊

I've been wanting to do exactly what you mentioned!!. Do you have a reference video about getting access to the cabin's floor?
You should send this to Tesla. Tesla should do this before you buy them. My wife calls my 2022 Y a bucket of bolts because of the ride and rattles.
They'll never go this far with soundproofing before you buy them, because they'll lose a mile off of their estimated range. XD
get a Corolla, Tesla has sport suspension!

no I didn't, I only cover metal body
All nice and dandy, but what about measuring the reduction in road noise? Gotta take a Db meter before and after something like this
I didn’t realize that, it’s too late now
I like it but just the vast amount of disassembling is too much work for me lol just gonna keep my music loud enough

Hi mate, incredible material.
One question. is necessary disconnect the battery to make this sound proofing?
No
Keep up the great work!!!!!
Thank you
What would you say the noise difference is like now?
How would you describe it?

I've trying to find a video on how to remove the carpet in my model 3. I think alot of road noise comes from the front area.
Keep up the great work. I subscribed and will message here so the UA-cam algorithm keeps pushing your channel.

It was there from day one
From day one, yours might be china built
Seems like it could possibly work. My only concern is the reaction to water if they ever get wet.
If they ever get wet there is serious flow in design
THANKS GOOD JOB. Are the soundproof material heavy if stick a lot of them?
not really, approximately 5-6 lb
Butyl is heavy, you only need to cover 25-40% surface which is more then enough
2023 year late model Y problem solved in production, very quiet cabin.

The life of a Tesla owner. I can't stand long drives on the highway with my Model 3. The road noise makes it hard to have a conversation with people in the car.
I watched a video yesterday and they did the same install and afterwards they said it hardly made any difference in the road noise.
How much of a difference did you notice?
20-40% depending on roads, still rattle on rough surfaces with high tire pressure 42 psi
How much weight does this add? Will affect range
few pounds, no effect on rage
How did you remove the subwoofers that sits on top?
Two bolt on top and two on bottom, I removed full housing
How to temove it in 7 seater version? It seems to be stuck behind the 3rd row seats
Did you figured out?
Well you know that a software app on ipad or iphone would give you a fairly accurate measurement
If only Tesla knew how to engineer a quality chassis. If only.
Yup, it's not like their cars aren't stiffer than supercars.Oh wait..they are
Having to insulate because Tesla cuts corners and use cheap materials. Imagine how cheaply built a 25k Tesla will be.
More build equals more weight. It’s refreshing how easy it is to disassemble.
You need to remove the windows to do the doors properly
yes, but too much work
It is not that bad XD

Can tesla fix this it is causing pressure I'm my ear im going to have to return that car
I don’t think so, it’s a design issue. Try with some added weight to tail gate and fill sub trunk with pillows

Ps - that ‘disconnected’ rear door white foam block is emergency door opener for rear passengers accessed from bottom of door cubby/cup holder.
Finally, 1 dB less 😂😂
I just don’t understand people accept that they have place sound deadening in there new 50000 new cars. I really like the cars but this is just crazy.

This will void warranty and Tesla won't take any liability in case of battery fire.
you got any proof or are you just making stuff up for no reason?

My tesla rattles so bad! How much money would it take to hire you to do this to my car. Im about to drive this thing off a cliff. 😂
It’s very easy, all trip are easy to pull except doors
