I think Vulfpeck just needs to do a Steely Dan cover album at this point.
I wouldn't be mad. If anyone can do Steely Dan justice, it's vulf
Man that'd give me a heart attack
I'd buy it.
I surely would support it. 😛🤩😻✌ please with Mr. Donald Fagen himself and as many original bandmembers as possible!
Man, few things would make me as happy!
he's on the record - he's on THAT RECORD
that and 4000 others!!! What a friggin' incredible drummer!!!
Marc Hlavac That's so meta
There's something really endearing when you see artists you respect geek out like kids about other artists you respect. Its just so dang real.
no wonder he absolutely nails this groove
Bernard Purdie is wearing a Bernard Purdie shirt. I am deeply in love with this man.
what a purdie thing to do lol
That's so you know who he is. It's the same as Roger Taylor having his picture on his drum kit. lol.
He is the hit maker you know!
Pherjuggles Purdue is GOD
Great great drummer but I lost all respect for him as a human being over the Beatles claims. That's phucking ridiculous and embarrassing Bernard
this groove is why artificial intelligence will never win
Great song though about owsley (The grateful dead's technical advisor and there LSD chef)
@TheNada73 Underrated comment.
The funniest thing is this comment is 100% the truth
AMEN
You are so right! A close friend talks about how AI will take over music. I am going to add this song to the list of songs that prove the AI wrong. Along with Cissy Strut :)
Good lord, how great was that. Larry Carlton's solo HARMONISED!!!
That was no little feat !
Yes but also THE OPPOSITE TAP
@@silviosantapaola2825 they tapped each others guitar! I had to pause the video! WHAT!?
Vulfpeck never fails to impress
@@goodgulfgasTHE TAP!!!!!!!!!
Purdie's an absolute machine, watching him work is like watching a printing press. Everything does exactly what it needs to, exactly when it needs to.
Exactly what I was thinking. He's a true master.
The best part about this? He had never heard their songs before or rehearsed for this. He just went up and started playing. Talk about instincts!
@@RyanHamiltonBakeralthough you know he actually played drums on this track? 👌
@@papa_pt straight from the Wong. Take it up with him. 😝
@@RyanHamiltonBaker this is a steely dan cover 🤘
they harmonised the fuckin solo. Like it was nothing.
I saw that too, frickin' awesome!
Every goddamn serious guitar player on the face of the planet should learn that guitar solo, straight up. It's so good. What really blew me away was Cory's harmony part! WTF?!
harmony in "solo" is on the recording
Jon Ashley that may be true but they had as many takes as they want in the studio. Not easy to do that one take on stage and not fuck it up.
Larry Carlton recorded that in two takes. The man is a legend
I was skeptically waiting to see what was going to happen when THAT moment came. I must say, they showed unexpected cojones in doing what they did -- take arguably the world's most iconic and brilliant guitar solo, and harmonize it. Duly impressed.
at least i didnt throw up in my mouth
Yeah, it was a pretty important moment, which the camera had zoomed in on it.
@Mr Nobody thanks for pointing that out
good lord we need more vulf covers of the dan
Glamour Profession with Joe's bass & Cory geetar outro......unstoppable !
i want to hear them play i got the news
@@ZachJenkins how about Show Biz Kids. I bet they could funk the hell outta that, really make it their own in an amazing way...Josie, Bodhisattva and The Fez would also be good choices imo. Get Antwaun on the mic with Theo on backup for Gaslighting Abbie
@@nigelbeveridge1777 truly the dream.
@@BreathEmpowerment holy shit a Vulf cover of The Fez with Antwaun on vocals would make the world a better place
Any group that can cover this song and do it well is all right by me.
Tru. I just wish they had Antwan killing it with them.
Cory Wong's band plays "Peg" at their live shows occasionally. It's freaking awesome, too. I'm just happy to know about all of these cats, whether they are together as the Vulfpeck, or doing their solo projects. Also, that look of joy on Joe's face at the beginning. He was totally like "holy shit, I can't believe we're playing with Bernard "ghost notes ain't nothing but rebound" Purdie!"
Mild High Club aka Stealing Dan
My bands about to do this!
@@MattFoleysGhost True!
Man how cool would it be to be Joe Dart on that stage? Getting to groove with THE groove master Purdie.
He got to do the same with Clyde Stubblefield a few years back too!
There's gonna be a kid freaking out that he's onstage with JOE DART in 30 years.
Man that mic gets in the way of seeing Bernie Purdie smile when Joe hits the groove.
I think that Purdie guy has played some drums before.
Hands down the best cover of the song ever, having Bernard on the drums doesn’t hurt....and harmonising larrys solo is just ridiculous!!
Probably seen this video a hundred times and I still get the same enjoyment from how happy Joe and Bernard look during the outro
This is the best version I’ve ever heard! Not only did they do that Larry Carlton solo note for note they harmonize it with two guitars Jesus Christ boys
Yes, hard enough to play singularly....but harmonised !!!
Best version?
Hmm...think I prefer the version performed by a band called Steely Dan...🤣
So much pure fun in being good at something and getting to just let it rip!
The guitar solo part sounds like as it was played by Allman Brothers band
That's a fine complement.
the magic of 4ths
Now that you mentioned it.
Nerve gas. I'm helpless in the presence of funky genius. These guys are the best groovalicious new thing since the Dirty Loops. Amazing cover of an amazing song. And PURDIE! They are annoited.
Bernard Purdie!
Andrew Klein Yes, the pretty one.
Utterly genius drummer!!!
You done hiring the hitmaker 😎
Wow. And that harmonized solo by Wong and Theo was pure magic.
Those harmonies sounded like shit unfortunately. The last part of the solo was okay though when they played more in unison.
Respectfully disagree I felt like it was a little sloppy and when you're harmonizing with something like a Larry Carlton solo you better have your s*** straight. Great idea ...huge risk ....fail in my opinion
Disagree. They're usually spotless... this one felt like it was unrehearsed. The whole song I mean.
Came here from the Interview with Lee Anderton, where Corey says Vulfpeck never rehearses. This is just amazing.
Love that I can hear the prominent bass line in this, bumping it
Amazeballs!! Dan-ish since the 70's and am stoked that there's a new crop of admirers. Love me some Purdie!!
not only nailed the main solo but the outro solo as well in HARMONY !! those solos by themselves require a decent set of chops , and they're doing it TIMES TWO (X2)... Kudos to those guys for working out those harmony lines
This is a really incredible cover, especially for how precise the Steely Dan sound can be.
3:03 must have been the best moment of joe dart's life.
???
Top Notch. I love how Theo and Cory did each other's hammer on notes at the end of the guitar solo.
That kid on the bass having a defining moment in his life.
thats Joe Dart and i HIGHLY recommend you check more of him out. one of the best currently active bassists. give Dean Town by Vulfpeck a listen and you’ll know what i mean
@@Jhanzey ‘active’ bassist
he's like 30
Nailed the solo ... WITH GUITARMONY! 👌
Absolutely amazing. Thank you for that thoroughly entertaining moment
Watching Bernard Purdue- he’s so fluid, so precise, so dead on the groove, while looking absolutely relaxed.
Thanks guys. What absolute pleasure to watch and listen to y'all tear it up.Tah muchly.
Purdy is a legend, man! No one grooves like him
This makes me feel like the music is in good hands.
These amazing musicians can play anything!
We need a Vulfpeck record with Bernard Purdie on all tracks
Incredible. I love it!!
Vulf has some of the best covers in the game
Perfect performance.Fantastic guitar playing full of passion and energy .Bravo to all the band.
Love how Bernie Purdie does the same thing Levon Helm used to do when he opens his hats, getting his right hand out of the way to give the downbeat a good strong punch! What a drummer!
Never noticed this before. Levon Helm was a cracking drummer, would've been at home with James Brown and many funkier artists, though the Band were funky as when they wanted to be
It's all just so casual and natural! That's the difference between playing the music and feeling the music. What a drummer! Man....
Pure gold 🙏🏼
Pretty sure that at least 90 percent of the audience wasn't born when this tune originally was released. Sweet.
This is the greatest!
Splendid, thank you! 🍾❤️
Incredible. Purdie is like a perfect polished diamond gleaming no mater what is going on around him.
This is one fine experience.
Their joy is so palpable!
The dude is 77 here. I'll be lucky to be able to get out of my recliner without help in 27 years.
WOW, incredible!
Covering Steely Dan is an awfully brave thing to attempt. Nice job!
incredible guitar duet wooow
Great playing by everyone, Purdie is a unbelievable
Bernard Purdie is the fuckin man!!
....noboddy grooves like "Purdie"...amazing !
WOW! What chops, ALL of them!
Wow, thank you 👍. This was epic.
This i umbelieveble. The best vulf guitar solo ever.
Amazing!
Vulf is such a fun band!!!!!
This was so good
This the bassist is my favorite part of Vulf
First time I've ever heard these guys but yes he was killing it. Nice to be able to say you were the rhythm section w/Purdy.
Great Work guys,,
That double solo was sick!
this is my new favorite thing in the world
Purdie killing it!!!! Love it
This is like crazy good!
The Vulf meet Dan. About time too!
Solid job boys! You make Dan Steely Proud
Superb!
This is so fucking dope. As a true Steely Dan fan, this is very impressive. Obviously having Purdie makes it what it is, but those harmonized solos(Larry Carlton’s, btw) are killer. Just an all around great performance. They did it justice.
What treat for them.
crazy~!!! best of best~!!!
My favorite band playing my pretty much favorite song ever!? Uh... Yes... Please
Amazing
You may be happy, but you’ll never be as happy as cory wong and theo katzman tapping each others guitars while playing steely dan with BERNARD PURDIE
Stoked that these cats bring back the OG musicians who played on everything.
I guess there is no universe where this cannot exist in all its perfection
funkin fantastic man!
Gran Cover🔥🎶
If there's one thing about this band that's true, it's that they all love Steely Dan (excepting two skeptics).
That was really PRETTY,Mr Purdie........hats off to the band also.....
Man. I'm moving to NYC!
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwyeah!!! I can die now... Thanks for posting!!! 🤘🤩🤘
Mr Purdie Is an absolute legend
Dang. That was really damn good. Wow.
Awesome!
Love the harmonized version of Carlton’s iconic solo!
Great copy, I like it
Bravo just for the dual guitar solos!
Purdie’s a beast!!
my favourite steely dan song play by my favourite band HOLYFUKIN SHIT IS THAT PURDIE ON THE DRUMS
if I'd been able to play the Dan as smooth and clean as this band I could die happy
1. Bernard Purdie.
2. Joe Dart and Bernard Purdie on a Steely Dan groove. And killin' it.
3. Theo and Cory harmony lead solo. Haven't seen anything done that well since Joe Walsh and Don Felder on "Hotel California".
So damn good!
highest quality vulf you will ever get
The drummer is brining it...whoever he is!!!! ;)
Bernard Purdie!!!
One of the most famous drummers of all time! Literally changed the game
It's only Bernard Purdie. He played on the original recording in 1976.
has the winking smiley face lost all meaning, he was being COY. he knows its bernard purdie its in the title. bernard purdie is also wearing a shirt of himself that says bernard purdie in classic bernard purdie fashion.
How old are you? John "Pretty" Purdie played on two/ maybe three of their albums. You gotta bit of growing to do. Educate yourself on some Steely Dan's work. Then you'll have a measuring stick with which to base your opinions on any band thereafter. SD are perfectionists personified. Do some research. SD is nothing short of excellence!
This is very addictive!
The. Purdie. Shuffle.

You done did it.
Nice work fellas
