Pete and Roger, always getting the spotlight. But it's John, who is holding down the fort. RIP John
Not to mention Kenny who got screwed the hardest.
watch 2 songs of this footage no john....what a shame
I was at this show. I was 17. It was so amazing. The Clash opened. My friends and I were so far from the stage, but we didn’t care. What an amazing night.
bullshit retirement tour
So it was you guys pushing from the back ! Shjt that was a bit intense for a while . Did the clash play first or was it David Johansen ?
How old are you now?
David Johanson opened. Then The Clash 🎸. I am 65
@@carloscarlos7044I was there also. An amazing night!
HOLY COW What a f****n great guitar solo!
Pete killed it! I bought this live 2 cd set. 3 days ago This was the 2nd show October 13 1982. I’ve listened to this song probably 20x already. The quality is so good.
That "Cry If You Want" is epic. He was feeling it that night.
This song is better than life its self
Thats how much this song
Means to me I needed to say this
What a voice. Brilliant.
Alem de cantor, show mam era bom de porradas - Batia bem
Keith Moon May be the GOAT but Kenney Jones was ON POINT in this track as he was in so many others.
Kenney is and always be a beast of a drummer!
Kenney killing it on this, yes!
He was a beast at Live Aid too, powerful drummer
On the dry and dusty road.. It's 1973 but in my mind it's still 1966 and my custom Lambretta SX200 is flat out pulling 60 mph on the way to Hastings on the B roads on a bright and sunny bank holiday Monday.. the wind in my hair and Julie on the back, and 40 scooters behind me.. we see the coastline for the first time, the pier is in view and we all let out a big cheer.. one of the best ever memories
I used to play this song over and over...the 1995 or 1996 film, I believe...Years before in the late 1970s and early 80s, I used to listen to Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend (the Who) on my bed as a teenager, whether doing high school algebra homework or pining over some girl..."Oh, God, I need a drink of cool, cool rain...!"
Me to,It's an awesome song!!
Why does this have to be 40 years ago! Shouting at the sky.
Who's listening in 2024?
Me 👍🏽
@@andjohAJ yes! 🥰
A great rock band
Yes they are!
I know Pete wasn't really known for his guitar playing or soloing compared to his peers, but man he played some good solos during this whole tour! He really is very underrated!
Agree Pete's guitar work is underrated. This song just gives a taste. Also, Roger is nursing a wounded voice in this video. A most intense live experience! Peace and joy! (Maybe 6 tours seen?). Believe born at the right time.
Agree 1000% he killed it this 82 tour. Best since 1970
His acoustic guitar playing is unmatched. !!
What do you mean. He's one of the most respected and greatest rock guitarists ever...
Look how much effort Roger puts into these songs. Pete couldn't have found anyone better to give life to his work.
That drummer is amazing!!!
Jones was on it!
The one before him was better
@@mrsobchak898 no one are saying that kenney is better than keith
Such a beautiful version!
It makes me cry 😢
Thank you, Julie :)
Kenney is on it!
And that, people, is why Roger Daltrey is The Who's Vocalist. Oh thank you. Thank you. The song of the angels pale in comparison.
This song right here is why he's my favorite male singer.
Not only that I love this song, but it'll always make me think of Jimmy (Phil Daniels) walking on Brighton beach.
40 years this week.
I love The Who! 💖
Drummer is a Monster.. !!
Kenney tore the cover off this one.
Roger you never fail with that killer distinctive rock voice, and Pete I love ya to bits man.
My favourite song!
Viva The Who!!
I'm 23 & this makes me emotional 🥲
They are on a spiritual level. That's what they gave to the world. Rock as a spiritual all body experience. :)
@@Twotontessie what do you mean by that?
Smoking. I think the best version of this song live I've heard. So cool they've officially released. The "Cry If You Want" from this show is epic.
Kenny Jones is very underrated
He was a beast while a part of the Small Faces-real rockers know his contribution to the genre!
He was no Keith Moon but he was no slag either but Moonie is the greatest of all time
@@mrsobchak898 - Yes...
He’s in the r/r hall of fame!
He was a firecracker of a player. Prize fighter with the Who for sure.
Long live the PT Clash look! I believe around this time he was battling substance addiction and through the final "farewell tour" of 1982 he is really trying hard here to beat drugs and rebuild his life. Long live rock!!!
God damn powerful voice!
Love you Roger! ❤️
It started raining during this song. It was chilling ❤️☔🙏. David Johanson opened, then The Clash 🎸
Yes it was frigging amazing!
I was there in '82, couldn't see shit, thanks!
Rollig, Beatles y The Who, erais los tres
Truly amazing and I was there
That is so beautiful 🥰
It s sad why can't we have this song and music back
I saw them do this live
Never tire of the song. One of my faves. They are phenomenal live
This was one of the best concerts I ever went to. I was 22 years old at giants stadium . The clash open for them and the only thing I remember is then playing rock the casbah. It's so cool that UA-cam as these videos so all the concerts that I went to the my memory is a little fuzzy about lol I can relive them over and over again. It was a freaking awesome concert. I was sending right on the 2nd base spot remembering looking back at everybody of in the crowd it seemed like they were all cheering for me lol the hallucinogenics might have had something to do with that :)
Me too. I was turning 21.
shea stadium
Wow … blowing the doors off for London - superb version x
Wish the camera would show the best musician on the stage!
that was unbelievable!!!!!!
I was at that concert, it was awesome
So was I, The Clash and David Johanssen
Wow!
Lucky sods, nice one
When Pete really soloed! And a great new guitar tone for him!
Yes, and they say he is not among the best guitar players, which may be true, but I've always felt that he had the best guitar tone...and is the most original sounding EVER.
Harry Kadaras Pete will never win on the technical guitar score card but on the other hand - nobody attacked the guitar with ferocity and attitude more than Mr Peter Townshend 🎸 " I prefer the latter" The WHO
@@phillyghost1256 in fact, hes very tecnical - his chord strctures are amazing.
Viva The Who??✌🏼😷✌🏼
The "outside" jazz fusion licks Pete plays from 4:31 to 4:48 to bring the song to its climatic end? So good. Never expected that from him. I mean the entire song he killed it. Monster Performance!
Love the big frenized end. Love the chemistry in a band like that. You better be watching those leaps close and accent the fxck out of them! Be ready at all times!
Like this legendary band.Powerful song!
Saw them in Orlando 82.Unreal.
Toronto 82 was the definitive performance of this and many others.
"Quadrophenia" (the movie) ❤️❤️❤️
Epic band 🎸🎹🎼🎵💉🎸
Just 18 years after the Beatle's historic, "world-transforming" visit to the United States, and their concert at the same venue in New York City: the Shea Stadium. How the face of ROCK n ROLL would change between 1964 and 1982. The Who were also part of the second-wave "British invasion" after the Beatles.
I was there. The stadium shook at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again. I clearly remember looking at the edge of the opening of the seating.
anon53 - Me too. Down on the field there where times my feet weren't touching the ground, and I'm a biggish guy at 6'1"/ 180. Didn't it rain during the end of this song, or was I tripping ? Or did we go to the 1st show? hmmm, can't seem to remember.
Outstanding!
This brings tears to my eyes 🥲
Always loved this song!!!!!
Pete is very modest about being a guitarist but I have always loved his lines in the track live at these shows 👍🏼 he’s a colourful player
Simply the best!
Entwistle. Just fcuking awesome.
Wow I looked at the date. Saw them 2 months later in Syracuse, NY. What a show!!
I was there. The Clash was the opening act. Awesome show!
LEGENDARY CONCERT
IS OUT NOW ON BLU-RAY DVD!!!
NEW AND VERY GOOD NEWS FOR WHO-FANS AND COLLECTORS!!!
I
Was
There
!!!!!!!!
Always makes me cry 😢
Saw them do the entire album several years ago
WELCOME TO THE ROCK N'ROLL CLUB!!!!
Great song ...rock on..🎸
AMAZING , enough sid 🙌
Fav
I saw them do this song in PA. Phenomenal
Fantastic !👏👏👏
OMG !!
Fantastic...thank you for sharing.
superb - excellent -great
My man was at this show...nothing like Shea Stadium xcept 1969
Who's listening to this song in 2022?
I love this song 🥰
On the 82 tour,..if Pete was in the groove he played some of the best guitar he ever played...this is an example of that
I was there!! The Clash/The Who. Can it get any better?!
💜
Hay que reconocer que los que tenemos cuarenta y cinco o cincuenta años y que nos pillo la Beatlemania,
somos los verdaderos hijos del Rocl
Rock.Seguramente me habré equivocado.!!perfeccionista Cogito ego sum!
Beautiful sound... England's most symbolic Mods going through their embarrassing early 80's phase, whilst the Jam were imagining their-selves 15 years earlier, true to the Mod core... interesting... I have always loved both bands... but Mod is what we are, as Townshend told Kenny when he joined the band after Keith died.
¡Así se canta carajo!
Wow!!!!
You can't do it FOREVER. Someday people won't care!
I need to get back home to COOL COOL RAIN....
Cameramen hate Entwhistle
Ruben Niño I was thinking the same thing!
More like the film editor
Yawn
@@chrismnj yes but history tells of him being the man who made the bass guitar what it is today
They always have done the greatest bassist of all time dirty-but I’m glad there’s people like you that recognize his contributions going unnoticed.
amooooooooooooooooooooooo
God this song is such a motherfucker to sing. Especially the bridge section. Townshend's solo is awesome.
Alta Fidelidade
I remember when Roger said the Beatles wore a suit so I wore a suit except this makes him look like the tin man 😅
Pete Townshend - me just need a good song ok today Iam in the mood for a bit of shredding and all his peers Jaws dropped.
When I compare this vid to their 1978 live of Baba O'Riley or Won't get fooled Again, I can't help feeling a little sad.
Moon's gone, Townshend isn't making the windmill nor jumping like a drunk bug everywhere, Daltrey is not making his big gestures.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the music and this is quality, but I don't know, a bit of The Who's soul is missing
I know exactly what you mean! It feels quite empty in a way, although it's still great to watch.
+31lafouine I think the band still weren't quite over Moon's death. They all still look rather sad.
I don't think The Who could ever possibly get over his death. Sure, individual members probably could. But Keith Moon was too deeply integral part of what made the music great. His drumming was driving force behind energy of much of their work. He wasnt¨really replacable.
31lafouine I was there !
I hear ya! But I felt so lucky to see them! 16 years old and had to hitch hike home . .
BOM DEMAIS
The Clash look!
Preciosa, Macnifica, Emotiva.
Cooler than dry ice and down like Four flat tires with a spare with out air
Who's listening in 2023?
I remember this! It was their "Farewell Tour", right?
Thank you so much for this! I have waited for you to upload some classics on your channel. Great song by The Who, I like! Does anyone know what is the meaning of this song?
4nza Go listen to the Quadrophenia album, then you'll get the meaning.
@@chrismnj My favourite record of all time! Got me thru High Skool!
I know what it means to me, yet for the writers, possibly a struggle, and they are wanting love to rule their decisions and outcome, only a guess, an intense song, my fave of theirs.
