- Lyrics:
Only love,
Can make it rain,
The way the beach is kissed by the sea
Only love,
Can make it rain,
Like the sweat of lovers laying in the fields
Love, reign o'er me
Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, reign o'er me
Only love,
Can bring the rain,
That makes you yearn to the sky
Only love,
Can bring the rain,
That falls like tears from on high
Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, reign o'er me
Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, reign o'er me
On the dry and dusty road,
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool, cool rain
I can't sleep and I lay and I think,
The night is hot and black as ink
Woo, oh God, I need a drink of cool, cool rain
(Guitar Solo)
Love, reign o'er me, reign o'er me, o'er me, o'er me, whoa!
Love, reign o'er me, (whoa), o'er me
Love...
Roger Daltrey ~ Lead Vocals
John Entwistle ~ Bass guitar, Brass
Pete Townshend ~ Lead Guitar, Piano, Synth
Keith Moon ~ Drums
You know how much I love *The Who* (and Jimmy) ~ :)
What a great time that was as we came to know the story of Quadrophenia like we did!
I'm so glad you decided to upload it, Dan!!!
An awesome share out of the past, babe!
Jimmy was quite the character in that movie, right? He was the perfect person to play that part. I remember how we were so into it at the time, it really brings back memories. If you hadn't been so persistent I probably wouldn't have put it up, so kudos to you, babe! The MODS!!!
OMGosh, he was just perfect, babe! I remember us saying, you can't help but love the guy! He played the part to the *T* !!! That was a few of the best weeks we ever had in enjoyment over a character played in a movie!!! Everything about that movie was great, and then you creating the vids you did to it, was even better! I still love it all to this day! We had a lot of fun with it, yesiree
MysticRhythmsSeven The MODS!!! Who comes up with stuff like this ~>>> Great minds of the music world!
We absolutely loved this movie, babe, and .... Jimmy! :)
In fact, STING played a really great part as well! It was a fun time, Dan xox :)
Absolutely beautiful
@@joeframo3347 Thank you Joe!
Absolutely one of the greatest songs ever. If you, like me grew up in the time. We were blessed. The music was at its best ever
I agree! Thanks Kevin!
I did, and was blessed to see them in concert. My ex husband recorded for Epic Records, so I was a hard core lover of allot of famous bands, The Who being one of them.
Ahmen to that! I was very young at the time but I can still remember the fashion, music and care free times of the 60s which seem to vanish as time moved on till the present nightmare.
I couldn’t agree more!
What I LOVE SO MUCH ABOUT THEM IS…… THEY DONT CURSE IN THEIR SONGS!!! We don’t need that language! With the exception for “ Who are you” 1 version says…Hell….1 he lays the F bomb in it… But…. It fits that song perfectly!!
I only here them curse on stage Live!!
The most beautiful love song ever!
2024 and still one of my favourite rock tunes...❤🎉
My fav too! Daltry has an amazing voice.
The PASSION of this song STILL~resonates in 2023. 🕶♥
And in 2024
Roger’s vocals are SO Beautiful when he sings this Song!! Song’s beautiful too!!
Nearly 50 years old and it still sounds fresher and more original than anything produced today.
Try Steve Hackett & his band if you w
ant something equal to and original so you'll have another great group of musicians to praise. I'm as much a Who fan as anybody, but it gets my goat when people claim the Who are the "best" band on the planet ignoring others equally as good musically and composing some of the best music ever produced.
I love this song. I think it's the best one on the album, though I love ALL the album. But this track is just something something else! Fabulous, boys! Thank you from a lifelong fan!
Sounds like how love would sound in its purest, most beautiful form. Roger's scream as he sings 'Looouurrvvee' sounds like the scream of every heart that's ever loved being torn to shreds. His best vocal performance by far. As for Keith's drums... They speak their own language.
What a great comment, Patrick! Thanks so much for the view! I'm so glad you enjoyed the share! -:)
Oh Patrick, I know it's an old post...if time has a beginning or an end....I love the way you express yourself...Enchanting thought....Listen on....
I would love to hear a track of the drums isolated. They are magnificent.
I had the privilege of seeing the Who live in December 1975 at Manchester Belle Vue.. Keith Moon was astonishing - no other word for it. I adored Quadrophenia - that vinyl record with all its pictures was my 18th birthday present from all my friends who clubbed together. I was moved to tears, as they had a surprise party for me. After the concert, I slept rough in the city centre in Manchester and was frozen stiff, returning to Bradford the next morning. Years later I taught Roger Daltry's youngest son, but was too shy to talk to Roger himself. He's a really nice guy, and a good Brexiteer - proud of his country, as you would expect. Nice family, all of them.
Thanks so much for sharing your story, Paul -:) Much appreciated! -Dan
a song that makes me cry so hard I was in a really bad place in my life losing my brother ,losing my whole purpose of life ,but I knew I had to be strong and stay alive for my love that reigns on my beautiful family ,and the thought of never hearing this masterpiece again is unforgiving because I was told love will always reign on me and the ones I love forever ❤
Sang this song after my first daughter Linda cremation. Tears everytime i hear it.
Love is everlasting, no matter the divide. In the end it all comes together, you'll see. ❤😊
The song is also very deep😢😢
I heard this play in my local supermarket today during a short report on Roger Daltrey's 80th birthday. I couldn't help but grin like a nutjob doing my shopping!
WHO can make such songs again? NO ONE!
Their greatest and most beautiful song. This is a masterpiece, and Entwistle gives us a mind blowing performance on bass.
I was employed at the Loews Nassau Metroplex in Levittown, NY when we received the film Reign Over Me . It is beyond question or doubt: This was the first significant exploratory of 9/11-induced, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. This masterpiece of American film making delivered it's message perfectly and at just the right time in history. Always remember... Never forget... May the souls of the patriots we lost on that fateful day, rest peacefully forever, in the Kingdom of God...
I grew up with this song... They used to use to play it on the radio in 73.. It's one of their BEST SONGS❤
I am 65. I heard this first in 1975. each and every time I play this I love it for the sheer passion of hearing it. this is upper echelon of Who songs. this brings a smile to my face and lots of tears to my eyes because of me losing my mom and dad over 10 years ago.
It doesn’t get much better than this, The Who at their imperious best 👏👏
Came across this accidentally. I am sure I haven't heard it since the 70's. I am so overwhelmed that I just stopped halfway through. I just do not understand how four human beings can create such wondrous music that just discombobulates me and renders me useless.
It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful songs ever written ... legendary ... Thanks for commenting Jose; I'm glad you enjoyed the share!
Ya I haven't heard it in probably 25 years and it was like I got the wind knocked out of me. I've been replaying now and added to my play list. Somber let uplifting, grat talent.
Definitely a Who highpoint. Always loved Quadrophenia in its panoramic stunning magnificence. This song is a masterpiece, every bit as much as Won't get Fooled Again, is.
ONE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST ROCK OPERA
No word's needed, just listen ,this track speaks for itself 😊😊😊
One of the greatest vocal performances in rock history. Daltrey didn't have the best voice of all time, but by god he ALWAYS went for it, and the passion is unmatched.
I couldn't agree more! Thanks for commenting!
Completely agree!
I agree. One of the powerful rock vocals of all time.
Just got crazy high on our own home grown. Needed to hear Roger screaming LOVE. Lost my man, 10/5/2020, RIP Stoney.
RFK stadium Philadelphia. A tremendous song. The Who's shining moment.
This song, by itself, proves Rodger's merit as the lead vocalists in what is one of the best Rock bands ever.
yes.
I can dig it
Agree! Roger really got his vocals absolutely perfect!!! His vocals on this song just gets right inside me!!!
Such a great song by great musicians. Rodger's vocals are amazing. 🤘🎸
The greatest song ever written from the greatest album ever released. Not a typical love song in the "boy meets girl" sense. More of a spiritual "Love" song. And every single time I listen to it, I'm moved to tears. And I will never stop loving it.
I couldn't agree more, Robert! Thanks for a great comment!
My favorite album of all time!
65yo now and this song never gets old. I think this song is the Who's stairway to Heaven. Such a great classic
Absolutely ELECTRIFYING... The Who at their best !
So true! They were indeed @ their best!
Not lost on me is the drumming of Keith Moon in this song...Simply fantastic
One of those tunes that reaches in and yanks your soul right out and smacks it around in front of You
It does.........
You know when you hear this is like your the epitome of rock stardom hands down.
@@garyhines6767 For sure!
Ain't that the truth.

高校生の頃聞いた。フーが一番好きだった。おとなになり何年も聞かなかった。だが、何十年後にロジャダルトリーがアイリシュイブニングにいて再度聞いた。
Magnificent!
This is my song❤
One boggles the mind that only 23k views ???
Phenomenal vocals from Roger, brilliant band, luckily I grew up with all this amazing music. Thanks for this.
Sheer class
Dont get no better !!!
This song and video is ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! ROGER’S VOICE GOES RIGHT THRU ME!!!!! I FEEL THE SONG! ❤❤❤❤❤
"Love Reign O'er Me" was known as Pete's theme on "Quadrophenia", but this song really shows off Daltrey's amazing voice.
That's because Pete wrote it. Perhaps the finest composer in Rock History.
@@barneybarnes7796 I absolutely agree! Greatest rock writer ever. While Zeppelin will always be my favorite band (and Queen a close second), I believe Townshend is the greatest conceptual composer of his generation, with an imagination as big as the sky. His ability to tell a narrative story in music is unmatched (though Ian Anderson was excellent, too). "Tommy" dropped when I was 13 and changed my life. The Brits will forever be the heavyweight champions of rock music.
@@koufax8 Great observations, I would also add Roger Waters, Peter Gabriel and Peter Hammill.
Daltrey's vocals ....WOW! Doesn't get better than this
@@barneybarnes7796Agreed about Pete as THE best rock composer!
If those Nobel prize folks wanted to give an award to a rock songwriter/composer, hands down, it should have been Pete Townshend!
the term
Magnum Opus
comes to mind whenever I hear this
still kickin ass in 2024
Quadrophenia ranks amongst the finest examples of rock and roll ever created. Along with Dark Side Of the Moon, Zeppelin II and IV and Sgt. Peppers. These albums will forever define the ultimate creativity and prowess of this craft. The true GIANTS they are!!!
True that! Rock and Roll masterpiece!
But you my friend can't leave out. Altman brothers live at the fillmore east, probably the best live album of all time
💙
Don't forget Deep Purple. 👍
This masterpiece just churns with passion that reaches in and grabs your soul.
It does ... every time ... Thank you for commenting, Bobby ... much appreciated-:)
The soul implanted in you by God. Read John chapter 17
The greatest pure rock band of all time.
Damn! What a powerful song!
I was a Mod in the 80's. Total poser, but still, I would have never found this masterpiece otherwise. 🎶🎤
one of the best songs ever,,,,,
I couldn't agree more!
💜💜💜 My favorite band of all time!!! 💜💜💜
I used to play in a power trio in college, and we had more fun playing Who songs that you could imagine. We played, The Punk and the Godfather, 5:15, and Bargain, and I got to live out my Keith Moon dreams. I don't think I've ever had more fun than playing Who, you could go F'n off and people were amazed, no one played those tunes. One time we even made enough cash for a pizza! Good times.
What a great story, Robert! Thanks so much for sharing it here! I'm so glad you enjoyed this share; I had a great time creating it after watching the entire movie! ~> Good time! -:)
Ce morceau est une pure merveille ....et ça fait 45 ans que ça dure ! Vie éternelle pour les Who !
Thanks for this. My birthday today. This song was playing in my dream before I woke, a gift. A dream about swimming in a pool, and my kids jumping in with me, and then we were rained on. Sweet. I saw the who in 1980 in Seattle. It was the first concert after Cincinnati when all those people were trampled and killed. When they performed this song, it was powerful for them. You could feel it. May love reign o'er you and yours, always.
You're so welcome! A belated HB! May love reighn over you & yours also, Harshad!
Harshad Jeff Thomlinson, nicely said brotha! Happy birthday and may you and yours be a force for good in the world =) Cheers!
I was one of those sardines in the crowd in Cincinnati. My girlfriend got a broken ankle in the crush. I had never been so afraid in my life. It's hard to describe what it's like to be moved against your will 20 feet at a time and there's nothing you can do about it.
by far one of the best bands ever
By farrrrrr!!!
John Bundrick ! Your finest hour, take a bow
saw The Who at an outdoor venue in Atlanta in 1991 at Lakewood Amphitheatre. They were Awesome!!
Valerie.....I was there as well. Drove down from SC for the night and back. Awesome indeed.
Wow best ever
This album came out when I was in high school ( 1971-1975), so it has sentimental value, but it really is the band at their creative peak, I had the good fortune to see them play with the Grateful Dead in Oakland in 1976, an epic show to say the least, both bands played 3 hour sets, unforgettable!
I never get tired of listening to the Quadrophenia album.
Neither do we! It's one of the greats!
Roger Daltrey's powerful voice really drives home this tune. That great piano intro always gets me. When I hear it start to play on the radio, I usually say out loud "This is a fantastic fu**ing song."
I've just found the best video on UA-cam!
Quad for me is the greatest album of all time, sends me into a trance
!~:)
One of my favorite songs from Quadrophenia!
A really great Video to go along with it!
I have to say this is a visual Masterpiece!!!
Evey time I watch it I like it even more!!
Can't get enough !!! Specially from 2.54 it just get more and more and more intense !!! Thanks !!!
Amazing ❤❤❤

Not only is the song a true classic in every sense, but the video really enhanced the music and vocals - Well Done!
Fellows.. This is among human race legacy.. "teach" it to our children for the generations to come, they'll need it in their journey, as we did.
Oh I do! My kids grew up listening to all the classics bc I said so. I’ve even got them liking a few Dead songs
Que bonito, irmão. Viva o belo, viva a boa música! 😊
Great video....beautifully done!!! Such an incredible song, incredible band...so fortunate I was born when I was and could fully appreciate the Who all my life. So what if we're all getting older than dirt!!!!!

I've readin Roger's book that during a rehearsal for one of the concerts there was a bomb threat and they had to wait outside for hours untill the police had searched everything
Amazing song by the Who!
Thumbs up!
Thanks so much Stefan!
Superb Video and my favorite Who song.......so damn powerful. I saw them in 67 when they would break up their instruments on stage and Keith was still with us. WILD
It was and remains one of the best songs ever!!
Keith Moon on drums, Damn!
My new favorite song. I heard it years ago of course but never appreciated until now when I heard someone else trying to sing it on The Voice I think. His voice is sweet and powerful at the same time.
A great new choice!!
Oh, hello... I'm smiling because this is definitely a love song. I can say I've had some of the most intense love making with this playing beside us.... loudly....Like the sweat of Lovers laying in the fields.....oh ...The nights we spent alone, oh I need to get back home.....
Don't be shy, smile. 40+ years later I'm still with him, and yes it still plays loudly beside us... Amazing.
Always in love with that film, always will be. Great casting and the who, what a sound track
Truly a great rock band sing a love song in screaming fashion,no other band do this only one The Who.

one of the great songs from my favourite album from all those years ago. thank you
Первый раз вижу такие крики о любви, в СССР на все такое было табу. Мы были студенты и тихие вечера с гитарой в Риге были только в общежитиях института гражданской авиации.Thank You.

A musical masterpiece.
One of the super of the supers songs..
what a friggin geat song! It never changes the effect since the 70's when I first heard it!
That's so true! It still has that affect on me too!
one of my favorite song love this this band
It's a winner! :-)
Beautiful video for a powerful song...
Thank you for the kind words!
keith moon what a drummer
Becky Hittner - Yes he was. Both Moon and Bonham, two of the very best EVER, and both died way too young.
I saw a comment on another WHO video that summed them up. The only band with a lead guitarist, a lead bass player, a lead drummer as well as a lead vocalist.
@@oliverreedslovechild You can say that AGAIN! Because it's true.
@@4orrcountry OK then. " I saw a comment on another WHO video that summed them up. The only band with a lead guitarist, a lead bass player, a lead drummer as well as a lead vocalist." :~)
@@oliverreedslovechild That comment on the other video may have been written by me, as I have written those exact words about The Who. 4 talented artists, determined to put their own stamp on the band. Entwhistle's lead bass style was the reason Pete was a primarily a rythm guitarist until John died in 2002.
I grew up on the other side of the "FENCE" / From the WHO, but this one, Is just "EXCELLENCE at It's "GREATEST," / Heer's to "MEMORIES / PASSED!" OI! OI!
Thee best love song of all times..
I would love to play this song at my funeral
Never get tired of Roger's battle cry.

Excellent visuals! Kudos to the composers - fits the music well !
Thank you, Anna!
I love this song. Its beautiful! ❤❤
Not only the song is fantastic, this video is absolutely outstanding! GREAT GREAT JOB!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I agree absolutely
So beautiful
At the '89 Stadium Show, in Buffalo, it started to rain, just as Rog broke into the opening lyrics. He commented, and laughed about it, at the end of the song!
Musica rock a altissimo livello ❤
I love this song, but the name of the album reminds me of a grad student of mine. He loved this album and "converted" some of the young ones into The Who. 🙏🕊️🙏
Possibly my favourite Who song.
💛✌️🌼 Let love be victorious. Victory of light and love. May it be unconditional and pure and kind.
