Please know that all the work you put into these videos are doing exactly what you intended for them to do..these videos have been nothing but amazing for me starting PoE. Thank you so much for these videos 🙏🏽
This series is so much better than every other content out there for PoE beginners. It's nuts how many videos there are with millions of views that don't actually explain anything at a reasonable pace. These players with tens of thousands of hours begin explaining mechanics in absurdly basic, almost patronizing words, and immediately jump into word soup. Your videos are clear, concise, and go into the perfect amount of detail for people who have no idea what they're doing. Please keep going, your work is invaluable
Thanks!! Much appreciated! And yeah - I totally get what you mean. I think the people that have been playing the game for a long time are so used to certain terms and acronyms that they just use what they're used to indiscriminately, without realizing that new players have no idea what they're talking about!
yes. or talk too fast and use lots of game-specific lingo words, which we don't understand. this game is already overwhelming and its easy for new players to get lost
its like listening to pro investors explain investing they have such talent for it they have no idea that the average guy just doesnt "get" how a lever works and why it makes money. They just say - do levers.
I've watched all 4 of your beginners guides and must say they are AMAZING. Everything about the information is logical, organized, and digestible. I just started playing and was hitting the proverbial "wall of progression" when I found these guides and feel unstuck. Great work!
I had the sudden change of heart that I wanted to get into Path of Exile... and holy your video explains the basic systems about gear in the game sooo well... and you really go from basic level to more in depth and I was able to follow every step in your explanation I really enjoy(ed) it. Thank you so so much :D
I love that you speak clearly and at a reasonable speed. 😀Some streamers speak and move so fast I have a hard time understanding what they are talking about. Thank you for this great series.
I had wanted to try Poe for years and didn't. After watching the first video in this series I just started, wth. Finished act 1 and having a lot of fun. Thank you
I’ve watched so many beginner guides for PoE and tried so many times to start getting into the game but given up every time because they all say “follow a build guide from the start.” This is hands down the best series of beginner guides for PoE for my kind of “work it out yourself” play style. Thank you, you might actually get me to the point of sticking with it.
I think that adding defensive layers can be very complicated for a lot of players. So first of all if you want to add on more in a way that it synergizes, you have to look into what your class usually allows you to do, and what your build would benefit the most from. 1. Marauders can usually invest heavy on life regen, block chance, life on block, very high life pool, very high armour, higher max resistances, high aoe, etc. 2. Templars lose a bit of life compared to Marauders but they make up for it with Energy Shield. (Which is like having another life pool on top of your life, however please note that energy shield is scaled almost independently from life (has it's own mods that make it more efficient), so it might be a little trickier to pull it off. 3. Shadows tend to be invested in a combination of life with energy shield, evasion (dodge attacks), spell dodge chance, and spell suppression. 4. Witches have many ways to protect themselves from incoming damage, they can utilize life and energy shield well (energy shield recharge rate, energy shield recharge occurrence modifier) - they can use minions or golems by protecting the player and/or causing monsters around the player to be inaccurate/weaker/slower etc. 5. Duelists... they can make use of block chance, armour, evasion, leech (overleech), life on hit, fortification. 6. Rangers, the kings of evasion. Dodge chance, spell dodge, spell suppression, phasing, and just running through monsters while being almost invisible. Most of the mitigation styles I've mentioned can be used by other classes but GENERALLY to a lesser extent but still possible. You need to figure out what works best for your specific build as it will be a different case for everyone else. Auras that can be a gamechanger for your build: - Determination (high base increase in armour and armour multiplier) - Purity auras (purity of elements makes you immune to all elemental ailments, like shock, ignite and freeze, for example) - Grace (same as Determination but for evasion rating) - Blood and Sand (Sand stance causes nearby enemies to be blinded (enemies are less accurate when attacking you) - Skitterbots (shock and chill enemies nearby, chill is great for making monsters around you slower moving) If you're having trouble fitting auras into your build, you can look into ways to increase mana reservation efficiency through jewels, item mods, passives, helmet enchants, amulet anointments, and more. Most build guides will tell you what auras to use, but probably won't explain to you how it's keeping you from dying, so it can be confusing to just slap in stuff and expect it to magically make you immortal.
Just started playing yesterday to satiate my arpg needs until D4 in June. Really disappointed I slept on POE all this time, I’m loving it so far. Gotta say, your guides have been invaluable. Not only do they help wrap your head around the basic gist of what’s a very complex game, perhaps more importantly they provide insight into what so many other content creators overlook. For instance, while I haven’t delved into the trade system just yet, this video covers the actual process of how to filter your search for whatever it is you need. Most channels (in my experience) would have just mentioned the website and how to post what you want without going on to explain the filtering mechanics. What a lot of CCs view as mundane details that don’t warrant explanation are often the exact things a lot of folks are looking to have explained. So yeah, thanks for the ground level/foundational knowledge base your guides give us newbies. They’re much appreciated 🙏🏻
Thanks! And yeah, I totally get what you mean about how many other CCs tend to miss the small details that are actually pretty significant. I've lost count of the number of times I've watched on a video for this or other games where they're throwing out terminology that just doesn't mean anything to me!
I have been saving every single unique I found.... I'll have to take a good look at them and see what is actually worth keeping. I just kept them around for future build options.
I tend to collect uniques in my uniques stash tab, even though I'll never use the vast majority of them. But if I didn't have that tab I would probably just vendor everything LOL
Also, concerning PoE ninja, while looking at similar builds can help show you a build that's actually functional, you can also just look at all of them at once. First, there's that big green bordered heat map button. So click your ascendancy and then your main skill. Then check the heat map. That's your actual skill tree. The red is the core trunk of the build... and you can see all the various branches and twigs that represent less unanimous opinion. You can also see commonly used uniques, commonly used links to that main skill, and commonly taken notable nodes over on the left side of that main build page, after clicking on your ascendancy class and your main skill. It's still important to actually look at some builds though as the aggregate tells a lot but sometimes muddles the story. Also, of course- a lot of these are the same because people are following guides not because they're thinking for themselves- lots of other stuff can still be a sound choice if it works for your playstyle.
You don’t know how much this series helped. I just came from Diablo. I just stayed away because I didn’t want to follow a crazy build guide for Poe but I will after the story
that hint on poe ninja and the ability to look exactly at other players stats, gear, gems and skills at different points in time is a very helpful tool I didnt know about yet. I will try this asap in order to unstuck me from yellow maps, hopefully progressing further into red ones. thx!
Yeah, it's really interesting and informative to take a look at similar builds to see how many different ways there are to get the job done. Educational too!
This is a great video. My biggest issue with getting through the campaign is I often can not find good gear for my build. I don't want to halt my campaign and go grind for upgrades, and I typically have very little currency just because RNG. By about act 4-5 I always seem to hit a wall and struggle to kill most mobs and die frequently, even when trying to follow guides. Guides will simply tell you to find gear with this and that on it, like I can command what the game deems to drop for me. But without mountains of currency or hours of grinding I don't see how to keep my gear up to snuff throughout the leveling journey. And the brick wall I always hit crushes my motivation to carry on. I've only made it to proper end game in like 2 leagues out of the 10 or so I've played. I tend to give up my the second half of the campaign because my character's become so worthless.
regarding second half of the campaign be aware that Kitava, act 5 boss, curses you after he dies, so that you have permanent -30% to all resistances till the end of the game. And Kitava in Act 10 will add another -30% on top of that. The game is balanced in the way that you are expected to have 75% fire/cold/light res since about act 4 and forever on, chaos res can be mostly ignored till maps. The issue with gear can be easily solved if you just pick up any white gear with correct sockets, craft on each piece of gear 1 +X resistance suffix and update the craft when you find a new recipe. Yes, you can craft on white, normal gear, having open prefix/suffix on magic or rare gear is not necessary. This way you'll be res capped (75%) with may be one or two nodes on passive skill tree all the way through the campaign. Also huge boost to your resistances is rings, most of them have res as an implicit, belts (heavy and leather belts are magnitude better than any other) and essences, which provide guaranteed +res if applied to armour or belt. With new league just around the corner, consider giving it another try, the game is so much fun, when you get grip on it. Have fun
Gearing effectively through the campaign is something that comes with experience. I can't remember the last time I had to farm for gear at that stage of the game, and the last several leagues, whether league-start or otherwise, I've just blasted through the campaign without any trading even. Having a good build helps for sure, but in general your damage should be fine if you get a good 4-link setup by act 3 or 4. Note that if you're doing a melee damage skill, keeping your weapon updated is pretty important. Spell based builds are easier to level, generally. Definitely keep at it though! This is absolutely a game where knowledge and experience gained over time make the game MUCH easier to get through!!
Usually low resistances are the most common problem for not being able to progress in early maps. That, or bad gem set-ups so you aren't doing enough damage. Are you following a build guide or doing it on your own?
@keepitshort yeah, I'll talk about that in the next video, but once you reach the endgame, at least a couple of purchased stash tabs becomes needed pretty fast.
@@salendrak making so much effort and still having to buy something to manage is not worth it, they pushed it too far on the stash management, because some could manage it without buying but they added more stuff so even that wouldn't be possible again which is weird to be honest.
What the heck i don't understand, is how, one is supposed to afford gear for following a build, with seasons wiping your chests, and or, starting a completely new character... what in the fk am I supposed to do? Like 3:33 - how do you get chaos orbs w/o ever playing, or starting a new league? I don't understand...
So everyone starts a new league from scratch, and the vast majority of builds don't require any trading to get through the campaign, and often times to get through early maps just fine. By the time you've finished the campaign you usually have several chaos orbs, and if you're really lucky, maybe a divine orb or two. It's all just RNG. But as you play more, and advance further into the endgame content, you'll naturally acquire more currency, which you then reinvest into your character, so you can do harder content, so you can earn more currency, etc, etc. But yeah - right out of the gate of a new league or just starting the game you won't have anything. And that's OK! By the time you NEED to trade for any particular gear, you'll probably have the currency to do so (within reason, of course). Hope that helps!
Uniques are a great way to get unstuck. Archnemesis league was quite easy to push quickly because it gave out a bunch of uniques early on and it still continued to some degree throughout. Buying a bunch of C+ to B power uniques for 1-5 c each, or if on SSF, running heist content or other content that can force uniques, is a quick way to greatly improve a character that basically stalls out at early maps. Rares, I feel like you need to put down about 20c to surpass the good cheapie uniques. Basically costing as much to upgrade one piece as your whole set of gear. What kind of cheapie rare is beating out a winterheart or berek's grip or whatever? Of course, there's the unique WEAPON problem, that exists in this game and many other ARPG. For builds that require weapon damage, good damage/speed of the weapon itself is often mandatory, and with very few of these scaling with level, they usually have a fairly short range of effective levels. Nevertheless, these are often also a cheap upgrade to C+ tier if you've only found trash. It still takes a halfway decent rare bow to beat a chin sol, for example.
I always do a bit of a happy dance any time a get an early Goldrim or Tabula! But yeah, there are lots of other uniques that aren't highly valued that can plug all sorts of holes in your build until you get something better!
The difficulty spikes like crazy at Act 6. I just made a Juggernaut build and every single Elite (yellow) monster k.o's me at least 3 times before I destroy it.
Thanks for that.@@salendrak Each piece has resistance. Could it be, that because I made a new build and my gems are all lv.13-15, that I'm getting k.o'd so much?
I feel attacked about the use flasks, I'm good about using health and mana, but the others not so much. :D But now I have "Use when charges are full" crafted onto them.
Really good video. I wish you made this video years ago when I start playing this game :D. I am tired of the same build showed in path of exile videos Tornado shot/Lightning Arrow Magic find abomination. I have stopped playing this game two leagues ago and the game seems to go in the wrong path. I have no hope for Path of Exile 2.
I've never bothered to try either of those builds out, and have still manage to have lots of fun. No need to follow the crowd in this game! But I'm curious - why do you have no hope for PoE2?
@salendrak After I played Path of Exile since the release of the game, I remember that at first POE used to be also slow in gameplay the same way they show Path of Exile 2 in trailers. If the Path of Exile 2 is going to be the same way as this POE than I have no interest in it. The amount of power creep they increase every league is insane and if you remember the worst league in 3.15 you know what I am talking about. Devs deciding to nerf all the damage and defence that players used to have and on some builds damage was cut by more than 60%.
hrhr.. welll go look up everything for the next 3 month... then start to play. Or... just play, make errors... repeat... learn yourself. I know.. funny idear. But thats how i did it... and thats why this game STILL is great. Cause i constantly find new things. New ways... its endless
@@salendrak have you played pokemon before it feel like a cool game like pokemon legends of arcues pokemon scarlet and violet and pokemon sword shield everybody likes and shaking
@miggycamposgaming7611 we have a few of those games on the switch, but I've never played them. My kids wanted them. Pokémon didn't exist when I was a kid lol so I've never really gotten into it at all.
I tried, I really did, but after my 3rd character getting absolutely obliterated by a random projectile moving at lightspeed i am done, hope poe 2 will be different in this aspect.
Were you playing hardcore? Randomly getting ganked is a common occurrence in this game, even when you have a well-tuned build up and running. Can be super annoying, as usually you have no idea why exactly you died. Hence the reason I don't play hardcore lol
@@salendrak no not hardcore, normal trade league, im a new player, tried making slayer cyclone build and got stuck, got lucky enough that an experienced player gave me a BIS crit axe for complex boneshatter build, leveled that character and still stuck, nothing drops, no gems, no clusters no currency nothing, I cant get anything that is required to boost my survivability even slightly, the only reason I got this far is because I got lucky and a generous player gave me some items, is begging for handouts the standard way of progressing through this game? something tells me not, but idk what else to do, keep running maps and the only thing that happens is I lose xp that I accumulated just barely, only to gain a few breach splinters that I dont even know what to do with, sorry im ranting, its just that I invested a lot of time into giving this game a chance and it just did not pay off.
@@nikoabaidze3574 Sounds like you're just experiencing the rather steep end-game learning curve. There is a TON to learn about in this game, and until you learn at least a few mechanics pretty well, it can be really hard to progress. I would recommend blocking most end-game mechanics using your atlas tree, and focus on really learning how to farm one or two until you really understand their ins and outs. Also, I've never received a free hand-out of any sort. So no - definitely not a standard way of progressing in the game. Have you tried following a good beginner friendly build guide?
@@salendrak yeah, im following complex boneshatter build, almost done with the atlas and slowly making some currency to buy the jewels my build needs, your right there is so much to learn its pretty intimidating, I spend more times reading and watching guides than playing xd.
nah, like real life, money makes the world go round. if u dont drop a mirror on the campaign or at least have a good farming method that could net u 300 chaos on ur first month ur done.
HOLY CRAP...So basically, bottomline, if your a new player wanting to learn the game, you're just screwed. You need to have 5 web pages open to have any idea what or how to do anything. Or, screw everything and just COPY someone else, because you CAN NOT do the work yourself because the game has become so convoluted and complicated you need 15 reference sources to even understand what is going on. Oh, and if you have been playing for a long time, you have been able to save up enough "currency" to buy whatever you want, how nice. Yes, yes, league blah blah, not the point. If you think for a second there isn't a HUGE RMT Market here, well, I wish I was that ignorant. BUT.. one more video to go... let's see how it goes.. it's not looking good.
I personally like the knowledge barrier in games, don't feel bad when I get punished for my ignorance, and feel quite satisfied when I succeed due to having learned how to do so, whether it was figuring things out in-game, or learning about it from out-of-game sources. If new players could just quickly and easily blast their way to the endgame, what would there be to keep them sticking around? And it's pretty hard to find any game these days that has any sort of in-game economy that doesn't have an RMT market. I've personally never used any such service, but yes, there are people that do that.
I like these guides but no wonder people quit in masses after first few chapters of campain ... why is this stuff sooooooooo convoluted and bloated .... there is stat reroll on EVERYTHING even the flasks and each has its own currency to reroll ... and color and gems and their color and links and the stuff in them and prefix and suffix and it can be changed and combined and rerolled and each has different currency on top ... like I just want to play some aRPG not get rocket science PhD x)... and this is still beginer stuff there is much more

It would help if you labeled the video with the #3 installment in the series. Its not in the title so im fishing around trying to find the first one.
Check the video description and the playlist!
@@salendrak I did. # in the title would delete a step or two but thanks for the content.
I've never even tried PoE, I just like watching your guides!
You should give it a try! But either way, I appreciate the views 😊
@@salendrak but the further you go then you might end up having to buy stash so when I reach to that point probably end up stop playing I guess

Damn, now I sound like my dad 😆
This is one of the best video series if not just for POE, but of any game guides.
Wow - thanks!! I really appreciate that!!
If I can go back to my younger self and show some of these tips. Seriously great video. Goodby me Diablo 4z
I still haven't decided on whether I'm going to bother playing through D4 or not...but probably not 😆
The difficulty spikes like crazy at Act 6. I just made a Juggernaut build and every single Elite (yellow) monster k.o's me at least 3 times before I destroy it.
Check you resistances! That's usually the biggest killer each time they get dropped, so beginning of Act 6, and post campaign.
That is seriously such a game-changer! Generally not used while leveling in the campaign, but once you're farming end-game content it's amazing!!
Best guide for beginners bar none
😁
if you buy premium stash for a character, does your another character have it too?
Everything you buy is account based, not character based, so yes - all stashes types will be available for all characters in all leagues.
New ways... its endless
It's great to have a game where that is an option!
Yeah the best video on UA-cam
I win!
ngl this guide series and the diablo 4 hype got me to download poe lol im gonna try solo and see how long i can last.
Do it!! Are you going to stream it at all? If so I'll definitely try to catch it!
@@salendrak that would be the plan but the download on steam keeps getting corrupted 😭
@@NotAurichu Try downloading the game installer directly from the PoE website and see if that works! You can like to your Steam account afterwards.
Do a guide dead cells or castle of illusion this would be great of beginners
I've played Dead Cells a little bit - seemed like a cool game! Not sure I could force myself to play a Mickey Mouse game though...
@@salendrak yeah, im following complex boneshatter build, almost done with the atlas and slowly making some currency to buy the jewels my build needs, your right there is so much to learn its pretty intimidating, I spend more times reading and watching guides than playing xd.
your voice suits for beginners to
Thanks!!
nah, like real life, money makes the world go round. if u dont drop a mirror on the campaign or at least have a good farming method that could net u 300 chaos on ur first month ur done.
Tell that to SSF players 😉
In other news, I just randomly got a headhunter in crucible league...smh....
Ok but... HOW THE FUCK DO I GET MY CHARACTER UNSTUCK FROM A PIECE OF ROCK THAT I GLITCHED INTO
Never had that happen before, but if you log out and log back in, it puts you back in town. Problem solved!!
Nice video(Yeet)
Thanks!! Though I'm pretty sure you haven't even watched it yet 😆
I like these guides but no wonder people quit in masses after first few chapters of campain ... why is this stuff sooooooooo convoluted and bloated .... there is stat reroll on EVERYTHING even the flasks and each has its own currency to reroll ... and color and gems and their color and links and the stuff in them and prefix and suffix and it can be changed and combined and rerolled and each has different currency on top ... like I just want to play some aRPG not get rocket science PhD x)... and this is still beginer stuff there is much more
Yeah, the devs really didn't even try to apply the KISS principle of Keep It Simple, Stupid!
I will never trade screw that
Then don't! Even if you don't play SSF, you don't HAVE to trade with anyone else. It's totally optional!
I am 100% positive that the Getting started video in this series literally convinced me to give PoE a !Third! attempt.
Working as intended! 😁
