  • Back in 2003 I entered a contemporary art competition.
I was shocked at the reception I got by the judging panel.
Watch the video to see what happened.
    Also....
Why you shouldn't enter Art competitions and how the Royal Academy of Art (London) judge entries plus the fees they charge ! What a rip off 😡

Blimey what a lovely comment, thanks so much Gary, I can't tell you how much it means to know someone is actually seeing my painting finally. Yeah I'll keep on creating, it's pretty hard going at the moment as very little interest but hey ..... It's the only thing I'm any good at lol.
I appreciate your kind words more than you'll ever know, hopefully my videos will get better as time goes on, so hang in there 👍
      All the best,
      Vik
P.S. You're in one of my favourites places ❤️ IOW

Wow, what a compliment. Thank you so much, gives me hope some people like what I paint after all. I actually think it's one of the best pieces I produced from that period of my life. Ironic isn't it. My thanks to you again, all the best, Vik 👍

You're absolutely right, Victor. I entered a similar competition at The Mall Galleries (on The Mall, Ldn, unsurprisingly!) several years ago. I was shortlisted to the round where you are required to bring your painting along for final judging. And then you're rejected! I believe that the people who get through to the exhibition stage of these things are those with connections. And they are money spinners, I agree. The prize money clearly comes from all the entry fees charged to the thousands who enter. Like yourself, I learned never to disrespect myself or my work in this way again. Unfortunately, it's so hard to exhibit your work anywhere without paying, which, as you describe, we struggling artists simply cannot afford to do. The art world is as elitist as it's ever been. Anyway, keep working - and may you get your deserved break soon!

Thank you so much for that response, yes that's exactly the issue and the tip of a large irritating iceberg which needs melting !
I've been selling for 30+ years now and sold over a thousand pieces in that long duration so been reasonably successful..... But of course media / galleries etc only want the shock factor style artists when it comes to publicity, the rest of us that plod along in the shadows and remain unknown to the main stream public and that's fine by me. One of the reasons I decided to start the channel is firstly to offer a little advice from my own experience but more so to show people what I did with my life and talent (dare I use such a bold word).
I remember seeing a rare piece of film showing Picasso painting (I'm not fan by the way) but I found it fascinating watching him in action.
I'll never be offered an exhibition large enough to reach any volume of people so this channel will be my legacy if you like. It might all get lost over the course of time but it's a chance I'll take, I have nothing to lose.
Lastly I find it intriguing how artists from different periods have overlapped each other in life and in some cases actual met.
As I get older I realise it's happened to me, of course I didn't know it at the time. I intend to cover some of these "by chance" meetings in forth comming videos.
My thanks once again and may I wish you great painting and longevity in art.
      All the best, Vik

I'll look out for those 'chance meeting' vids! Sounds intriguing!
