@@GoodMorningMagic It would be cool to see niche legendary creatures with explanations for their new design space/playstyles that they offer. It was cool to hear in this video for example that the appeal Masticores have with their built in removal/resilience which often justified the discard cost when playing with it. Gor Muldrak, Maralen of the Mornsong, Vhal, Candlekeep Researcher and Tivit, Seller of Secrets are all cards with unusual abilities, for example.

Masticore was so broken back in the day. Everyone loved Urza's block, but it was a power jump, not creep. Morphling was also key for the time... damage on the stack was still around for a little longer... so you could activate it with damage on the stack... crazy shenanigans. Both are absolutely iconic reserved list cards every old school player owns, or should own.

Argentum Masticore is a HOUSE in Limited. It's beautiful to discard a land popping their For Mirrodin! token and realize that you don't need cards when you have a 5/5 first striker that kills stuff every turn.

Thanks for this explanation, Gavin. Even as an old-time Magic player, I never understood Masticore bc I wasn't playing Magic the particular years it was good. Compared to the Arabian Knights all-stars, Juzan Djinn, Ehrnam Djinn, Serendib Efreet, and Kird Ape, Masticore looks lousy. Then compared to all the Mirrodin affinity creatures from when I picked the game back up, Myr Enforcer and Broodstar, then the even stronger Arcbound Ravager and Cranial Plating, Masticore was even worse. Now it all makes sense!
