Just a heads up anyone watching this: now there is simply a BGM folder on your sd card! Drop mp3s there and emulation station will automatically play them in the background!

100% the best RG351P content on the internet well done bro amazing work. I would not love this device as much as I do if it was not for you showing us all what great setups we can have with it for this I thank you!
Great video, clear explanations!! ArkOS looks like its really well polished. Going to go throw it in my OGA v1. Good that you mentioned about all of the online update options. I swap sdcards when trying different firmwares for the OGA/RK3326
Glad I could help! Not sure it will work on the OGA v1 because this is specific to the weird Anbernic kernel (vs. HardKernel), but I know that the developer is working on an OGA/RK2020/RGB10/etc version.
Excellent operating system. I am highly impressed with it and use it as my daily driver. the screen saver video mode and the custom background music are icing on the cake of an already great operating system.
Exactly how I'm feeling. The Retroid had been such a disappointment. I've tried to get on with it but the 351P is calling to me pretty loud right now. Going to grab one next month I think. This ArkOS looks great.
Haha, yeah I jumped ship a couple weeks after I got my RG351P. Not only did I love the feel of the device (with the exception of the screen), it was just easy to see the potential in it compared to the scattered RP2 support out there. Everyone seems to be waiting on Retroid to fix their OS issues, but the Anbernic crowd rolled up their sleeves and did it themselves :)
Three biggest lies I've ever been told: * "It's okay to be who you are." * "Do your best and follow your dreams and the rest will work out." * "Link in the description."
Haha, it's there, kinda -- just got to my main page at retrogamecorps.com/ and then pick the system you want to learn about, and each frontpage will have all the guides I mention.

This may be helpful for anyone who gets stuck trying to remote into their device to transfer files etc. I set the port number to 24 as there was a /24 after the IP address show on the device which I assumed was the port number. This would not connect. I then found out from the FAQ (which I should have read first!!!) that 24 is network block size and the port number is actually 22 (as shown in the video). Just positng this here in case someone makes the same mistake and gets stuck!
I've got the rg351p and I love it! However, the OS that comes with it is a bit buggy. I've tried: Emulec: original OS, very difficult and not so intuitive. 351 elec: it's a bit better than the above but is not there yet. Batocera .29: it is far better and comprehensive. However, there's an issue with the FW reading the battery status as it shows low battery when the battery is actually full. Also, the LED shows red and green. ArkOS: it's my favourite so far! Nothing much to tweak here, apart from the display brightness. It's easy, just flash the OS, insert the memory card with your ROMS, and it's ready to play! Enjoy!
Fair warning, I found out later that 351ELEC and the stock firmware also have this feature, it just needs to be set up in the Main Menu > UI Settings :)
Hey RGC, great video as usual. ArkOS is a promising distro, but I just wanted to point out a couple of flaws I've ran into while using it. - It does not currently support the Mupen64Plus core for Retroarch. You can opt to download Mupen64Plus-Next, but it is an older revision and not as optimized as later releases. Because of this, many N64 games are rendered unplayable or suffer worse emulation as they are restricted to Parallel and its profiles (rice, AngryLion, GLN64, etc). - For whatever reason, the right analog stick does not work on PPSSPP, restricting you from remapping it to otherwise useful functions like camera movement for Monster Hunter or Gods Eater Burst. I've also heard people say that PSP performance is "better" with ArkOS, but this has not been my experience. It's comparable and nearly identical to stock EmuElec 3.7 - You cannot customize themes are freely as you can with other distros. - Battery indicator is inaccurate I'm certain that Christian Haitian will address a lot of these issues in later revisions, but in its current state ArkOS is a little rough around the edges. Still, very promising. I'm currently satisfied with EmuElec 3.7, and haven't run into any of the reported issues other users have experienced. Granted, I did flash it onto a fresh Samsung MicroSD instead of using the provided stock distro.
Hi, this is great feedback. Would you be interested in submitting it as issues in his tracker? I'd love to see these fixes as well. github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/issues
For anyone who does not have Win8.1 or lower, you have to use a program called Bootice to switch between the two partitions on your SD card. After you run the program make sure your SD card is selected and click on "Parts Manage". From there select the "Easyroms" partition and hit "Set Accessible". Now you can access your roms folder. After you're finished be sure to "Set Accessible" back to the "Boot" partition before ejecting the SD card. Thanks to the 351elec discord for how to do this.
So I just found out there's a bgmusic folder within the EASYROMS partition. ArcOS lets you drop mp3 files in there. I'm using the Nintendo DSi menu music for my background, and it sounds great!
Yes, super convenient! He added that after I made this video, it makes the process of adding music much easier. I'm going to do a firmware update video sometime in the near future.
I love how there's so much progress being made with this device. A couple things I'd love to learn more about... I can't get the achievements to do anything after sign in. Does it require constant wifi connection. Ti work?.... And how does netplay work? Is it possible to trade pokemon with other players over the net? Loving this device! I decided to keep my resolutions at whatever the default was, as I'm really not a purist when it comes to resolution. Everything plays very well. I did find windows powershell scripts where you can remove the numbering from the bundled ROMs if that's your thing. I'm happy, because some of those bundled items are for games where I never acquired a backup copy yet!! Thanks for the guides!!! Happy holidays!
Has anyone tested the battery differences between ArkOS and 351elec? I always felt like I had to charge the ArkOS more before I switched to 351elec. (This is in 351v). Just curious of other’s performance
Either you are using a version of Windows that’s older than 10, or you need to map the drive letter. Check out the ArkOS wiki page for more info. github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/wiki
Might be worth mentioning as someone might have the same problem I did, Win32 Disc Imager won't run if you have mounted cloud storage, like Google Drive or pCloud. If you exit them it will run okay.
Are you using something other that Windows 10? Windows 7 and 8 cannot see multiple SD card partitions. If you are on Windows 10, you may need to assign a drive letter to the partition. More info in the dev’s wiki: github.com/christianhaitian/arkos/wiki
I cant seem to put background music , I really want to. I tried the method you showed on the video but it I couldnt open it on windows 10 since its a ext4 partition , so i tried disk genius but that needs the professional version aka paid then i heard there is a new version where i have a folder on the easyroms partition and when i inserted the mp3 in there it still isnt playing for some reason . Soo please help I really wanna use that feature
Can this system also be used on the rg351V? Since the data of these two devices (Rg351p / Rg351v) are identical as far as I know. Hope I can help somebody :)
I want to change my firmware but i don't have the confidence to do so (i feel like i'll mess up the device even more). Your video helped lessen the anxiety tho, so thanks for that!
I’ve been trying for hours now to get pico-8 working using ArkOS, the instructions on their site don’t work. I can play individual games by putting the png in the carts folder, but can’t get the splore file working at all (this section here: If you’d like to access splore to download and update games online while in Pico-8, create a blank text file named zzzsplore.p8 in /roms/pico-8/carts and launch zzzsplore from the pico-8 system menu in emulationstation). I’ve tried putting the txt file in ports, and in the standard pico 8 folder but no luck… any ideas where I’ve been going wrong? When I try to launch Pico 8 in ports I just get a white flashing line then it resets back to the menu…
Check out my Pico-8 guide on the website. I don’t have a video on it but I updated it a month or so ago when ArkOS made some changes to their structure, hopefully it will help.
Just got a hold of my rg351p... This handheld with arkos is my favorite retro handheld... It's just so easy for me to hack around with since it's basically ubuntu with emulation station underneath. It's just easy for me to ssh into it and start moving around files. It even has apt so I can install and remove whatever I need to on the linux side. Since it's an arm based chip It's alot like raspbian.
How do you scrape box art on arkos ? Ive tried to scrape it then it tells me to “refresh update games list to apply changes” but i cant find the update games list
Just updated to Arkos but now when im in a game and press the hotkeys for retroarch options i can only do this once. When i get back in the game and want to adjust something again i cant get back in retroarch :/ Can someone help me please?
After loading ARKOS onto a new microsd, loading it into the RG351P, expanding partitions, etc... I plug it back into my computer and only get a prompt for the "Boot" /H drive....no Roms or Games drive/ window pops up. Any suggestions?
Many thanks for this great video, I’m new in retro games console but installing ArKos and set it, today for me was super easy!!! I suggest to use BALENA ETCHER for Mac user to flash Sd card it’s super easy. Great job man!!!! Top
Thanks Matteo! The ArkOS developer is actually a Mac user and he recommends AGAINST using Balena Etcher based on issues he's had with the software. That's why I recommend ApplePiBaker instead :)
I can’t see any networks when I try to connect to wifi, my dongle doesn’t seem like it’s working when it worked with the other operating system I have a compatible wifi dongle, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
Something similar happened for me and I thought it wasn't working at first. When you are in the wifi menu hit r1 to move over to the plus button and hit that with circle. The networks should show then.
Thanks so much. I just flashed ArkOS to a new RG351V, and loaded ROMS into card 2 slot. The games do not appear on the main ArkOS menu, but I find I can locate and launch them, through the retro station menu. Any idea why the Home Screen “system chooser” menus don’t update to show these new ROMs?
Hy there. I have a question to the analogue sticks. If I press the left stick up the Charakter only walk and don't run. Has anibody the same issue and a fix for it? Is there anyway to calibrate the sticks? Ps:sorry for my bad English 😅
I'm having issues, download the arkos os, i do the zip thing, and then the image thing, i put the sd card on the 351p, the Arkos logo shows up but then I get a black screen and nothing happens. I have tried this a couple of times with the same result, any help?
Awesome guide! I just saw an announcement from the ArkOS developers who says they will no longer be supporting the RG351P/M. It will still work but we won't get updates. Is ArkOS still going to remain the top choice for these devices?
Hello sir. I would like to as a question. After installing ArkOS on my RG351p, the final version, my device load very slow when open. Could you advice on this matters? Thank you!
Hi I have a question I install arkos in my rg 351m every game I started it show me (art by haley jane wakenshaw) logo in the beginning of any game I want to play can you tell me how to remove it ?
I have a question about Commodore 64 emulation in ArkOS. Some games require me to "Insert Disk 2". How do I go about doing that? I can bring up the keyboard but is there some combination to bring up a menu setting to swap out the disk I need? Would greatly appreciate it.
Hi, I haven't tried it myself but it looks like you switch discs in the RetroArch menu. So press SELECT + X to bring up the menu, then: When the game asks for it, you can change the current disk in the RetroArch "Disc Control" menu: Eject the current disk with "Eject Disc" Select the right disk index with "Current Disc Index" Insert the new disk with "Insert Disc" This is taken from the RetroArch VICE guide: docs.libretro.com/library/vice/
Thanks for your video. Currently I've got a problem with ArkOS and RetroAchievements. The login data are configured within Retroarch and the login seems to work, the menu item is there, but no available achievements are there. It's working with the same Rom on RetroPie.
I just tried to flash the ARKOS image, however, when the screen asking for you to press "A" shows up, the gamepad simply does not work, so I can't finish installation, and now it doesn't even boot the previous OS. Do you have any idea why this happened? PS: It is a new device and the gamepad was working flawlessly with the stock rom.
I made the switch to Arkos, but I can't figure out how to get MAME to work. I put the roms in the arcade or mame folders and I can see them listed, but most of them don't work. I am mainly working with the 2003-plus set. When I put them in the 2000, 2003-plus or 2010, they are not visible. Any ideas?
Having trouble with PSX games on Ark OS. When I try to start a game I only get to a black screen with a white dash blinking in the upper left corner. I am not sure what to do. I have a BIOS installed.
Hmmm, I'm not sure. One thing is that if you are loading a zipped, CHD, or PBP game, it takes a long time to load. Have you let it sit there for a minute first?
I think in the end ArkOS is probably the superior OS just based on the fact it uses a full version of Retro Arch and is super easy to update or get new cores. But the ease of use that you get with 351ELEC, I dunno, the plug and play capabilities are just more user friendly and the kind of thing most people would want their handheld to do. I guess at the end of the day it's great there are two, one for casual users and another for power users.
I finally got pico-8 to boot because I'm stupid, but it just says press (looks like a youtube play button) andthen X to see a list of bbs carts. No button combinations are working at all. Anyone know how to fix this?

Check out my Pico-8 guide on the website. I don’t have a video on it but I updated it a month or so ago when ArkOS made some changes to their structure, hopefully it will help.
Great video!
Thank you!
Yeah, it's pretty great, right?
How do you scrape box art on arkos ? Ive tried to scrape it then it tells me to “refresh update games list to apply changes” but i cant find the update games list
Just updated to Arkos but now when im in a game and press the hotkeys for retroarch options i can only do this once. When i get back in the game and want to adjust something again i cant get back in retroarch :/ Can someone help me please?
I know you can help me bro!
i followed your instructions. when i put the SD card in i see the ARKos opening screen, but then nothing. Any suggestions?
After loading ARKOS onto a new microsd, loading it into the RG351P, expanding partitions, etc... I plug it back into my computer and only get a prompt for the "Boot" /H drive....no Roms or Games drive/ window pops up. Any suggestions?
same for me too
Many thanks for this great video, I’m new in retro games console but installing ArKos and set it, today for me was super easy!!!
Got one thanks for the info!
I can’t see any networks when I try to connect to wifi, my dongle doesn’t seem like it’s working when it worked with the other operating system
I have a compatible wifi dongle, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong
Something similar happened for me and I thought it wasn't working at first. When you are in the wifi menu hit r1 to move over to the plus button and hit that with circle. The networks should show then.
@@loveofthetruth nope, did that and still nothing
What wifi dongle do you use?
@@joeshlong9614 I use the one linked in the starter guide, the plugable usb 2.0 wireless N one.
@@loveofthetruth sweet, thanks
Which windows app are you using to make your device connect to the computer at 8:41 ?
Here you go: winscp.net/eng/index.php
When installing arkos, the machine keeps hanging when it says Press A to reboot I can’t get further any ideas thanks
Just got mine yesterday and it stays on the EMUELEC emulationstation loading page and freezes there .. any tips on how to fix it ??
I'm having issues, download the arkos os, i do the zip thing, and then the image thing, i put the sd card on the 351p, the Arkos logo shows up but then I get a black screen and nothing happens. I have tried this a couple of times with the same result, any help?
Me sirvió mucho este video. Muchas gracias.
Thank you!
I'm excited to get my device :D
Hi I have a question I install arkos in my rg 351m every game I started it show me (art by haley jane wakenshaw) logo in the beginning of any game I want to play can you tell me how to remove it ?
I have a question about Commodore 64 emulation in ArkOS. Some games require me to "Insert Disk 2". How do I go about doing that? I can bring up the keyboard but is there some combination to bring up a menu setting to swap out the disk I need? Would greatly appreciate it.
Hi, I haven't tried it myself but it looks like you switch discs in the RetroArch menu. So press SELECT + X to bring up the menu, then:
When the game asks for it, you can change the current disk in the RetroArch "Disc Control" menu:
Eject the current disk with "Eject Disc"
Select the right disk index with "Current Disc Index"
Insert the new disk with "Insert Disc"
This is taken from the RetroArch VICE guide: docs.libretro.com/library/vice/
Maybe im missing something here but where do i get all the roms and bios that i need to drag over to the easyroms partition
man, you are THE BEST
Thanks for your video. Currently I've got a problem with ArkOS and RetroAchievements. The login data are configured within Retroarch and the login seems to work, the menu item is there, but no available achievements are there.
It's working with the same Rom on RetroPie.
Have you done a video on Batocera for the RG351P?
Any ideas?
I have mine in the mame2003 folder and they work fine. I'm also using the 2003-Plus non-merged set. That's odd that it's not detecting your ROMs!
I think that's a fair assessment!
Is there anyway to use a USB-C to HDMI cable for an external display on the RG351p using ArkOS?
I finally got pico-8 to boot because I'm stupid, but it just says press (looks like a youtube play button) andthen X to see a list of bbs carts. No button combinations are working at all. Anyone know how to fix this?
Hello, I need help, I installed the Arkos on my rg351 and updated it, once was updated the theme changed and now I don’t know how to change the theme!
