I never really liked country nor bluegrass until I watched the movie, and I got to say, it gave me a whole new understanding of bluegrass music. that whole soundtrack is absolutely one of the best I've ever heard and it definitely opened my ears to all of the beautiful sounds and different music genres out there that still need to be heard.

Dan Tyminski's got that pure country tenor that I've loved ever since I was a little boy. It's one of the things that's kept me into country and bluegrass all these years -- that vocal style. It just does it for me; what can I say? BTW, he and Jerry Douglass do a killer version of this song on The Transatlantic Sessions, the BBC series that aired in the US on PBS a while back. DVD's are available. I recommend them.

    Lyrics:
(In constant sorrow all through his day)
I am a man of constant sorrow,
I've seen trouble all my day
I bid farewell to old Kentucky,
The place where I was born and raised
(The place where he was born and raised)
    ~Slide guitar solo~
For six long years I've been in trouble,
No pleasures here on earth I found
For in this world I'm bound to ramble,
I have no friends to help me now
(He has no friends to help him now)
    ~Steel Banjo solo~
It's fare thee well my old lover
I never expect to see you again
For I'm bound to ride that northern railroad,
Perhaps I'll die upon this train
(Perhaps he'll die upon this train)
    ~ Violin solo ~
You can bury me in some deep valley,
For many years where I may lay
Then you may learn to love another,
While I am sleeping in my grave
(While he is sleeping in his grave)
    ~ Slide Guitar solo ~
Maybe your friends think I'm just a stranger
My face, you'll never see no more
But there is one promise that is given
I'll meet you on God's golden shore
(He'll meet you on God's golden shore)

There is an incomparable band that is awesome! Allison Krauss on fiddle, Jerry Douglas on dobro, and the rest of the gang is absolute perfection! Kudos to you Lothar236. Fantastic recording!

I was raised on hard rock , and then AC⚡️DC , and I have loved the hell outta this song , when I heard it on , “oh brother where art thou” ! It truly is a kick ass song , and I could watch this band all day ! Back in the early 80’s , I painted Loyola collage , down in D.C. And the boss , played blue grass guitar , along with another painter , who played fiddle , and mandolin, he was really good , and had played with the Bill Monroe , the god father , of blue grass , at the time , I really liked that simple all acoustic sound , but I was still a deep hard rock / metal head ❤️👍🏻

it defies category..it is edgy with some expressive singing that has blues embellishments..and a beat that is like an engine..with bluesy dobro and hot fiddle, steady rolling banjo , and call and answer chorus like early rock. sound like rock and roll?..no wonder you : "love this song"
