    I just subscribed to your channel, many years ago a neighbor restored a Lane #1 mill, it's the only mill I've ever worked on, you bring back such find memories, so nice of you to do this and share it on here, please keep up the good work !!

    Nice mill and fast, be nice if husk could go on engine side to for ease of one man operating

      Actually what you are talking about is a "right handed" mill meaning the carriage advances past your right hand as you face the saw. This is a "left handed" mill as the carriage advances past your left hand as you face the saw. A right handed mill has the engine on the opposite side of the husk or the operator side. In the case of a right handed mill the operator must walk around the motor and drive linkage of make a bridge over the drive shaft. The beauty of the left hand mill is you can mount the motor behind the mill which clears the front of the mill for travel from the sawyers platform to the tailors end.

      You are correct, not many left handed mills. What is nice being left handed puts the power plant behind the mill leaving the front open.

    After cutting, does the lumber need to be kiln dried or is it ready to use? I know absolutely nothing about cutting lumber but find it fascinating to watch. Great video!!!

      That depends on the usage. Wood for furniture needs to be around 6% moisture content which will need kiln drying or depending on climate extended air drying. Here in New England 12% air drying is about the best you can hope for. Most rough lumber, strait off the mill and not planed, is usually air dried for a few months after being stacked with stickers between the rows of boards to enhance air movement in the pile.

    Looks more like a Frick Sawmill

      You are observant, The husk is a number one lane but the carriage is a Meadows.

    Enjoyed the video. What is diameter of blade?

    • @Haystack461
      @Haystack461  6 років тому

      The blade or"dish" is 48 inches and has inset type "standall bits" or teeth.
