    I love Kombu, we use it for broth all the time and made salad with the discarded pieces. Wakame is good and all but it’s definitely got the most “fishy” smell out of the three, that’s the hardest hurdle you have to jump in cooking with it.

    I'd really like it if you included information about iodine and how you need to be careful if your body isn't used to high doses of it. I like nori and I love wakame I could eat it every day and I am sure I'd get similarly addicted to all seaweed available. But as my body isn't used to food with high iodine content it could be harmful in the long run.

  • @Lemonz1989
    @Lemonz1989 5 років тому +1

    The kombu I buy here has a warning about iodine overdosing if eating more than 2 - 3 grams per day. It states that it has to be soaked for 24 hours and removing the water and rinsing it, then cooked for 20 minutes and removing the water and rinsing again. Is this something that is relevant, or is it just being overly cautious?
    I use it in miso soup. :)

    • @yinandyangliving
      @yinandyangliving  5 років тому +1

      Yes, there has been health effects from it but that is for people who are eating seaweed all the time, like every day. If you are eating it once in awhile, then it's overly cautious.

      How can you be sure with salad plants, herbs, vegetables or mushrooms? Those are magnets when it comes to getting loaded with radiation.
      I'd rather eat seaweed than any of the above if I didn't have to be concerned about a real health issue, which is iodine.

      +CologneCarter +couchpoet1 The only way to be sure? Get a Geiger Counter?! As I understand it pollution is intensified up the food chain so fish would be more at risk than seaweed. Re. Iodine: According to examine.com nori poses no risk, wakame does not pose a risk at moderate consumption but only over 15g per day. Kombu, though it says does pose a risk if not prepared correctly.

      seaweed has iodine and too much of it is not good, like anything else, over doing something is not good. We have to find balance in everything

    Sounds healthy indeed. But isn't it packed with unhealthy sodium?

    • @yinandyangliving
      @yinandyangliving  3 роки тому +1

      If you soak in water, sodium comes out.

    • @sherifnabil9663

      Sodium is healthy for you. It’s a myth that it causes high blood pressure.
      High blood pressure comes from sugar and refined carbs which cause insulin spikes, which inhibit the kidneys ability to excrete excess sodium in urine.
      Remove refined carbs and sugar completely and eat as much salt as you like. Your kidney will get rid of the excess.
      Don’t ever go on low sodium diet. It’s extremely dangerous to your health.
