Daniel introduces you into the world of Seaweed. Seaweed is a superfood that is packed with nutrients. In Korean, its called Miyeok (aka sea mustard, wakame) and its frequently used in Korean cuisine as a banchan or topping. Also used to make birthday soup - miyeok-guk! Many people have tried dried seaweed crisps, but I wanted to show you a few other banchans that you could try in the new year. Enjoy!

this is so helpful!! the only thing i cook seaweed with is miso soup, but with the help of your video, i'm going to try to make a variety of seaweed appetizers/meals! :)
Thank you for all these banchan videos. Also thank you for your vegetarian focused videos. Being a vegetarian that loves Korean food, they help me expand my menu options.
Love eating seaweed! Plus you look like a fun person to laugh with. Thanks!
Amazing introdution and even better demonstration, I was amazed at 7:36 when it changed colour. Good quality video
Just finished making some seaweed soup which is my favorite.
Great recipe! My aunt gave us 미역 and I haven't made anything with it. After seeing your recipe for it I'm probably gonna go out and buy a cucumber tomorrow to try it! Thanks!

And wow the colour change with the blanched seaweed! Neat!!
Wow!! I learnt alot from this video, thank you. After watching alot of KDramas during lockdown and I'm in love with the food, culture and the people and now I want to learn the korean language. I'll definitely be making some of these dishes this weekend (so I can enjoy during the kdrama mukbang scenes) so thank you for sharing this

HEEEEEEELLLLL YEAAHHH!!! I love the Korean way of doing wakame. It's my favorite banchan!! I always ask for seconds whenever I go to a Korean restaurant. :)

Another nice vid. Y’all keep hitting them out of the park! I had Miyeok guk last week and it wasn’t even my bday nor did I give birth! Lol. Also, the seaweed with the gochujahng sauce is one of my favorites. I can eat a lot of that!
typhoidmary34 hahahaha..... sorry had to laugh at the "it wasnt even my bday nor did i give birth" part
It look so tasty 😄
My favourite veggie! XD Especially those wasabi flavoured ones. That over chips anytime. I love eating bread with seasoned seaweed sheets. Yums!
Ahh this is a good video for me, I never knew how to choose which seaweed I need or how to use them. LOL
I really love seaweed ❣

all the banchans look super yummy 😋
Hah yea - when I was in college, I used to go through so many packs of those seaweed crisps. Got my roomates addicted to them too :)
Wakame is nice on a smoked ham sandwich with mayo...use instead of lettuce. Good!
I love olive (all of) your jokes!! XD
Everything looks so good I'm so hungry lol
I just purchased my first tub of Gochujang. I love it 😍😍😍😍. Next time I'm going to get the one that says very hot. the one I got says hot but I'm used to extremely spicy foods. I'm stocking my pantry, but I have to do it little by little.
Hello lovelies Katie and Daniel 😘😍yummy now this is for me I cant help it when I see sea weed a. Addicted to this aaaaah you r torturing me guys 🤣
Oh hello new hair cut/style 😀 for the new year ? What would you suggest to have alongside wit the seaweed cucumber salad ?? Happy new year and have a great long weekend ahead for the new year.
Haha lol the pirate booty treasure. That was hilarious. For my morning breakfast I use wakame seaweed . Thank you very much. I've learnt alot. Good jolly good👌👍
you tortured me. yummmmm !!! I love Korean food!!!
Well.. Once in a while UA-cam suggests a really good channel. Just susbcribed!
great video!!!!!!
Seaweed is soo expensive here. It took me a long time to appreciate the flavor. I still don't like them if they are too fishy, but eating them with rice helps a lot. This video is informative as usual. Thanks!
More sea vegetable videos please!
Wow, what sorcery is that seaweed color change made of? 😂 Thinking about making a little miyeokguk for lunch today... 😋
It’s like those magic markers that change from red to orange and blue to green.
I make the seaweed “chips” we love to snack on them
It’s good alright .😍
I love seaweed! I eat Sesame seaweed snacks with soy baked into them and then I use Nori for kimbap. :-)
I recently discovered your channel and subscribed immediately! I plan on doing groceries tomorrow for some staple Korean ingredients so I can start following your recipies. My boyfriend doesn't like vinegar, mushrooms, fermented soybean, soysauce, fish sauce and oister sauce... I hope that your recipes will persuade him into liking these kind of 'Asian' flavours. It's really a pity. Since I love Korean, Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine! Especially vegetarian dishes!
I LOVE SEAWEED :D I sometimes roast 김 with some salt & sesame oil and eat it like chips! (We don't have pre-made ones here so I do it myself.Sometimes I also add shichimi (japanese spice).)
High five 🖐 Katie and Daniel!!! Greeting you from Florida!!the sunshine state..I will like to see you cooking good caribean food with some seaweed on the side...That would be interesting and something different...
Excellent video on the varieties and usage of these seaweed gems. Korean seaweeds are rather expensive in Singapore but I try to include them in my children's diet because they are rich in iodine. I made the dried seaweed the same way as you did and I also added in shredded carrots and apples. So good as a side dish! heard teens who eat more seaweeds will grow taller, is that true?
Hello fellow Singaporean! Always nice to meet someone from Singapore in the vast world of UA-cam haha..
Yes indeed, Rachel. UA-cam works in the most amazing way to bring people closer. Happy holidays! 😘
Happy New Year! 😄🎉
I love seaweed
Ughhh these all look so good. I have a totally unhealthy relationship with the roasted and seasoned seaweed that you can just buy in packs. I try to limit them to one pack a day but... yeahhhhhh, I have no self control with these things. I feel like the amount of salt on them wouldn't be too healthy if consumed often, but I have no idea how many of those packs is too much :P ugh they're just too good. I'm definitely going to try the one with cucumber, it looks yummyyyyyyyy!
I just found your vlogs! Yeahhh. Hey what about kelp?? I love kelp!
Hi Daniel and Katie!
I've been to Korea in Oct 2012 and in one restaurant they served sliced hot silky tofu with the sauce you made for the seaweed sheet. Does that sauce goes with anything (not only for the seaweed sheet seasoning)?
Another awesome recipe Daniel! Can't wait to try them! So - if I can't get Dallae, could you recommend any good substitutions? maybe scallions combined with mung bean sprouts?
Hey Matt! I would recommend replacing the dallae with chives. Works just as great 👍 If you find yourself at an Asian mart, try picking up some tofu as well. The sauce works great as a dipping sauce for pan-fried tofu.
Will do! Thanks again
There's this one seaweed banchan that I had at a Korean restaurant that I love, been trying to find a recipe for it, it was vinegary but still sweet and had pickled white onions with it, any chance you would know how I could make it? Anyways I love that you're introducing people to seaweed and I love your channel :)
Tempura seaweed snacks are the best
What is the third one called? It is so good with the dip and some rice.
I love your banchan videos :D I want more
Can you also talk more about dry fishes and vegetables please 💓💓💓👍
Sure, do you have a specific (dried) fish or vegetable in mind? 🙂
I miss korean food damn
It gets all the love from me
Dale, dale 😂😂😂
Hello Daniel! I always have such a lot of Dashima left when I make broth. Is there anything I can do with it? I dont really feel that throwing it away is a good idea. Thank you!
The one vegetable that actually gets no love is okra.
Seaweed!!!
Would you post one with left over kelp from.the soup stock.
There's a belief that seaweed is good for the hair, and a lot of Asian women eat it for thick lush black hair. No harm trying.
Fun fact there are no poisonous species of seaweed they are some that taste awful and therefore be considered an animal and they can absorb contaminants from the environment but for the most part you can eat any seaweed you find on the beach.
oh wow im hella early..its late and im starving
Heh - Winnie! Resist the temptation... and fall asleep ;) Good night!
How see weed tastes?? Does it have any fishy smell?? I wanna taste it .it looks so yummy!!
Hair cut!!!!
We don't have gem in egypt but I get nori and toast it and sesame oil and salt awwww am an expert 😎
maha fawzy gem = 💎
Is the "Seaweed Salad" the same sauce you find in seaweed salads from Sushi restaurants?
Avoid 3:48 - 3:51 unless you want a visit in the middle of the night and a sore bicep. He done got me good, can I get immunity since we share the same name?
Hi Daniel and Katie, do you have a recipe for dashima? I always feel bad throwing it away after using it in stock. Heeelp
I see what you did there ;) 3:49
How long can we keep the seaweed banchan? Can we make in big batches and keep for a Long time?
I made some seaweed salad with Kombu from when I made my dashi, carrot and Korean radish. I just read though that Kombu has a TON of iodine. Is this safe to consume daily, either the kombu itself or dashi in general?
Seaweed is DELICIOUS and CHEAP!!
Does anyone know how many days can the cucumber seaweed one last on the refrigerator ? Pls
Am I looking for sushi rice or short grain glutinous rice?
Hello Katie & Daniel!
Good Afternoon Elizabeth!! 😋 It's 4pm in Seoul - where are you?
I am in Springfield, Missouri and it is 1:00 am. Lol I'm a night owl!
Just like us 🙂🙃... Prefer it at night - no distractions. Though lately, I am sleeping later and later. I think 2:30 lately. 🙄
Future Neighbor yes, definately at lot less distractions....I get alot of cleaning done at night....but I also get time to relax and do things I enjoy too.... right now I'm a stay at home mom to a 2 yr old, and she keeps me pretty busy during the day.....so this is my mommy time :)
