Select all 35 files, then long press to get to the iPad's contextual menu. You'll see Compress. tap on that to compress all your selected files into a single file. 😊
Files can have different views, much like the Mac's Finder. You have Icon, List, and Column view. I wonder if your Files app is set to a different view? Open the Files app and when in a folder, tap on the 4 squares in the toolbar (top of the iPad display where the different 'tools' are). Tap on that to change your view. See if that works. 😊

When I click on the files tab, it doesn’t look anything like this. I don’t see any pictures. I have the most updated version.
