Possibly the BEST - definitely the handiest - APP on the iPad (and iPhone). I use it to "store" my "way too many" files on an external drive before I'm forced to Trash them to make my iPad (and iPhone) usable during an "Overfull" warning. I also take a screen shot of the contents of my external storage - saves time searching. Thanks Rich.
At last, comprehensive, clear and concise easy to follow tutorial on using the iPad files app - something that has bewildered me for years. Now I can use this great app thanks to you!
Rich I always enjoy your videos and learn something new all the time. I still struggle with organizing my photos on my Apple devices compared to what I had in the PC world. Have you done a video on this?
I have done a couple of videos on the Photos app. You can find them on my channel. I'll be doing a new video once iPad OS 18 is released since there will be a lot of changes. Thanks so much for watching!
Dear Mr bowlin - thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials and tips. I moved to Apple just under a year ago and really embraced the iPhone. All thanks to you .🙂 I have since bought a second hand iPad so I will be hunting down your tutorials on that. Unfortunately I cannot afford an Apple pen. Can you recommend a non Apple Pencil that will not that break the bank, or point me where to look. I can manage with the iPhone, as I have arthritis in my hands so I swipe the keys. I cannot manage this on the iPad! Many thanks, and please keep the tutorials coming. Best wishes. Nick
Very useful and easy to follow video, thank you! Subscribed. Please let us know the model of the card reader you are using here! (mine would NOT work on an iPad Air 3) - many thanks! 👍👍
I don’t even know how to create a file let alone arrange them but mostly what I need to know is how to go back whenever I stuff something up and start again. What I would like to do is store on my Ipad a collection of music that I can take with me and not be dependant on a wifi connection. I would also need to know how to record the youtube music I like.
Just to add one more location for Files---I use a small hub that has ports for a variety of cables (USBa-USBC, SD, etc) and I use to connect several external drives at the same time---and I can move things from folder to folder, device to device (or copy/paste), etc. Most will have no need of this, but just to add one more possibility for locations--actually the drive that is open from the hub shows up in locations, not the hub itself. IpadOS 13 (I think) was when I decided I could use the Ipad Pro 12.9 instead Mac Pro at this point in my life.
Rick: Does the iPad Pro 13" M4 chip have the capability of doing a slideshow with photos stored in the Files app? In this application can one do a slideshow if the photos are stored on an external hard drive, not on the device's storage? Likewise, can one do a slideshow with photos in the Photos app? Good video.
I would just comment that when you say files re moved, they aren’t actually moved, a copy is created unlike on a Windows PC, where files are in fact moved by using the move command or copied by using the copy command. Thank you for your helpful information.
Using file browser (stratospheric) jdoesn’t limit you to the Apple ecosystem rather than be able to enter you’re LAN with all the external file storages ever without USB connection.
No text editor ! Even *.rft editing is NOT supported! Wow major issue. You can not use the iPad to generate useful written documents. Do not get rid of your MAC or PC, yet. ❤❤. I hate apple for making the iPad for net browsing only.

You've done it again Rich. Easy to follow instructions. I mainly used PCs and files on the iPad I found to not be so intuitive. This is a big help.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks so much for watching!
Wow! Unbelievable information and the presentation is so clear and easy to understand.

Perfect timing for me as I’m soon going to replace my iPad & need to reorganise my files. Thank you!
I was going to say exactly that!
Excellent video! Just what I needed but have always avoided!
Very good explanation. Thank you, Rich. 👍🏻🙂. Have you ever done a video on using “Google drive”?
This was a very informative video. I have been using Files lately but get confused. You cleared up a lot of questions for me. Thanks
This has to be the best instructional video i have come across.
Cheers
Thanks Rich, great instructions appreciate this very much.
Rich, this was one of your best. Frank
Incredibly helpful. Thank you.
Excellent - well explained
So helpful. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Very interesting and informative information. I'll have to try some of these to learn. Thank you.
If you have a printer with a USB-C port, you can also plug the iPad directly into that printer and skip the wireless connection step.
Really?!
Excellent video Rich thank you!
Thanks for a very informative video.
Great video. I accidentally deleted the favorites in app. Any idea how to get it back? Thanks.

May I inquire as to what iPad you are using in this video, thanks.

You bet!
Can you create additional tags?
can you use the Files app on Ipad and iphone to access a photos on a timemachine backup on an external hard drive ??
The ‘un-parse-able’, parsed!❤
Ha! Well, maybe a little bit. Thanks so much for watching!
Is there a way to change column width in column view? Many times columns are to narrow to see file name
Can you move photos from the ssd to iPad photos ?
Where did you get the external drive you’re using? I couldn’t find it anywhere online.
Just put a link in the description. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you 😊
I just do NOT have a FILES app.
It is nowhere to be found on my iPad.
Please help.

How do I add apps onto the files?
👍 subbed
LoCATIONS IS where files are stored?
Can you also use AirDrop on the iPad?
You sure can!

Like having read only memory, that you can not write to . . . . ❤❤
I do not have a Files App, Is this something that I should download?
It should be pre-installed on all iOS devices from the past like 7 years. What iPad do you have?
@@JJFlores197 i have iPad 10, running iOS 17.1

So a tag is a folder? Help! Downloads folder create. Hmmmm tap to move things….😊
P L E A S E Just a few minutes on the SHARED folder. You say “they will show up here”. Just show up here???? How to LOL. Thanks
Do you use the Pages app? Do you like Word better and what version do you have?
I love the files app on my M1 iPad Pro. Gets used a lot along with Stage Manager. Are you in Raleigh? I live in Cary.😊

There are apps like Pages or MS Word, you know....
