Who wants to see a new Primal Rage Game in this years?!?!?
I do. I hope NRS can do it, but on one condition: No avatars. Keep the roster mostly dinosaurs and other giant animals.
Only if they keep the simple character designs (please, no NRS busy overdesigned crap) and the stop-motion look. And I'm not talking about actually using stop motion, something that would be too expensive and wouldn't look that good in high resolution, but emulating the stop motion feel with actual 3D graphics.
Well me and many fans were thinking upon expanded the idea of the Avatars and going full Bloody Roar with the idea aka don't restrict transforming into a physical manifestation of the Prehistoric Animal Deity as a one--time use super move instead actually have a dedicated meter that determines when you can turn into said dino or other specified giant humanoid prehistoric animal and how long you remained transformed while keeping the mechanic of beat the game as the avatar to unlock the corresponding deity. But my idea of a reboot is have both the storylines of the first game and PR2 in a well-done story mode as to give us more insight into the world including the various tribes and the deities themselves cause remember while the deities themselves may have the appearance of unintelligent animals they're actually highly intelligent and are capable of making strategies as well as making alliances with other deities of the same faction as well as their distinct personalities besides fight, kill, eat, and conquer. And besides having the main 9 those being Blizzard, Armadon, Sauron, Talon, Slash Fang, Diablo, Vertigo, Chaos, and Necrosan along with the main 8's respective avatars come back I'd also include into the base roster some new deities and avatars into the lineups for the Virtuous Beasts, and Destructive Beasts respectively including a certain two who are major players in the series canon those being on the side of the Virtuous Beasts the mage that Vertigo had an enemy-level rivalry with and was the one who imprisoned Vertigo in the Earth's Moon which is what inadvertently kickstarted the events of PR1, and on the side of the Destructive Beasts the villainous and treacherous Pterodactyl God of Carron, and Deceit Thorashti aka the deity who got Chaos's loyalty and servitude by telling the Ape God of Decay "You work for me as my servant and I'll give you what you want most that being you returning to your human form." Plus I'd add all new members of the Virtuous Beasts and the Destructive Beasts.

Hey Chris, this is Larry, one of the main Testers on PR and PR2. I just want to say great job on your awesome presentation! This brought back so many great memories! It was nice to see all those pics and videos taken inside the Atari/Midway office. I didn't even know Felix helped with some of the mo-cap stuff. :D I definitely miss that place and all the people there. Hopefully WB will bring the game back someday to all the consoles. Anyways, it was great seeing you and watching your GDC presentation. Take care, my friend.
Hey Larry, I'm so happy you found this video! I still think its hilarious the last time we saw each other was at the video game museum at E3 and I walked up to the Primal Rage machine and noticed the player on it was kicking major ass. Not many people on planet that are THAT good so of course it was you! Yup, Felix was our filipino stick fighting consultant and did most of the key moves for Shank! Loved working with you and hope we can hang out again sometime soon!

In a world were companies like Sony just don't seem to care about gaming history preservation, seeing how people on the internet go out of their way to preserve games like this one and still make improvements for it really warms my heart.

I need a new official teaser gameplay for the Primal Rage reboot with returning dinosaur characters and two original characters from the cancelled sequel.
It’s a love letter to Mortal Kombat and the classic Atari arcade games in the 1990’s
I have watched this two times already at the GDC Vault but I might watch it again. Anyways this was something truly amazing to see and to learn more about this game and its development since I was always curious as to what was the games development was like and of course why it was canceled outright later on. All I can say is I am glad that people can now enjoy this game.

I was so ecstatic when Primal Rage II became playable in MAME. It really had so much potential and would of been a huge smash hit in the arcades. Thank you Chris for sharing this story, and for the creation of the game. Also, thank for being super nice when I've reached out to you in the past. My heart swelled when I saw an Owl cameo in the video
Primal rage 1 was just on another level. I miss that game... good times with my dad
I had no idea this even existed until just a few minutes ago. I feel cheated we didn't get to play this way back when in the arcades. This looks insanely fun. Love the shockingly fluid animation.
WB owns Rampage too, and a new game didn't come out, but at least they made a movie! i really hope someone pitch the idea of a Primal Rage film to WB, it would be awesome for sure!

Here's to hoping someday we'll see a reboot of Primal Rage. One of my all time favorite games and my all time favorite toy line.
Game development back in the day looked like such a blast. Just a bunch of guys with the same passion for games paling around as much as they were working. At least in the companies making games worth talking about anyways.
I always heard stories about the old nintendo of america president back in the 80's pulling pranks on people, like having his staff play unfinished beta games that they couldn't beat, but it looks like that kind of office atmosphere wasn't unique back then.
Great talk! Seems like a really really nice guy who got thrown for a loop when it was cancelled. Glad he feels better about the whole situation now. I remember being a kid reading EGM or one of those old magazines and seeing screenshots to announce it, then never seeing anything from it after that. It actually bothered me for years. I didn't know it had been restored before I watched Chris' talk & I'm floored to hear that. Gonna play it ASAP

i always thought this game had come out, until tonight.. watched some guys playing a hacked together ROM and it honest to god looked really good.. what a shame.
I think to me the fun part is how I discovered the OG Primal Rage on the Gameboy as a kid and I never realized Vertigo existed until I played it on a custom made Arcade Machine last year.

Surprised these guys are not working on Primal Rage 2 or making a 3'rd one seeing that you have people interested. Again whenever I mentioned Primal Rage people go crazy. I also own an Original Primal Rage Cabinet and for me personally Rather Primal Rage 2 had Dinosaurs be the focus and not the humans since most games you play as Humans. I Prefer games where you have new experiences and playing as other creatures. Also I seem to be the only person who has "SAVAGE QUEST" I mean come on developers. *shakes his head* Why no more Amazing Dinosaur Games! I don't understand

Primal Rage 2 would have found a great home in the current scene of fighting games running in the wild. But this is true proof and evidence that the fans (we, DA PEOPLE) are just insane for kaijuu dinos.
I was literally just wondering today why Primal Rage was never a cartoon. and yeh hes right it woulda sucked. 5 bucks it would have barely focused on the dinos and instead on like 5 culturally diverse teens hanging with chaos (the goofy one), Armadon (the smart one) and Blizzard (the leader) vs the tyrants trying to destory the urth, Sauron (the slow one), Talon (the sly snarky one), Vertigo (the girl) and Diablo (the leader). shenanigans ensue. nothing happens. the end. there I have made the whole series that never happened in your head.
AND SO basically. instead of just making the second game with 3 or 4 new dinos. they made a bunch of human characters that no one wanted. which prolonged the development into termination.
damn. Also atari forcing bullshit on to the development. which is no surprise.
Isn't that cartoon diverse cast pretty much the Avatars of Primal Rage 2? The only difference would had been to make them teenagers and to summon the Beasts instead of Captain Planet.
This is awesome. Looks like you had a ton of fun. I was always interested in this game and all the versions. I actually have an old interview done I think it was with Dennis you mentioned in the video. The interview was done for a TV show called twitch and it showed some of the process of PR 1.
I hope I get rich enough someday to buy the primal rage ip and donate it to Tang

Stop motion technique should be reimplemented in all games...Might and magic 6,7,8, implement it a bit (using computer models), but a real plasticine statue would be much better...

Sooo I know this is kind of a weird long shot, but has there ever been any updated/modified rom chips for primal rage 1??? I mean like how street fighter had the red chips and rainbow edition chips? I’d love to have some random mods to my dedicated PR1 cabinet.
The power of the internet has made many of the non-human characters popular foe the competitive scene now. People in the competition learning Riptor thanks to tutorials on videos. So if Primal Rage came the Avatars won't be needed.

Hahaha. So I've been playing go for a few years now, and one of the first things I learned was the term Atari. And i thought, "oh that's cool, that company named themselves something akin to "checkmate" or something". Come to learn in the first minute of this video that they had a division called "Tengen". This is the center point of a Go board. Hah, pretty neat! Those guys loved their Go

What happened with street fighter 5 had to do with fact that it was rushed to on time be a competitive game. That’s why competitive gaming can be harmful to the development of the product.

If this game shipped with humans as the main characters I would have not even bothered to buy the inevitable home port. I could have played any other Fighting game if I wanted those. I bought the first game to fight as dinosaurs. I would have put 1 coin in this machine saw humans and never played it again that was the entire point of primal rage 1

I think having the "human/dinosaur alter ego" system expanded on further would've really sold this game. You get characters that you can relate and put yourselves onto, but you can also do all the cool dinosaur shit from Primal Rage 1. Kinda like Bloody Roar.

Would be cool to see some of the characters featured in other games like Mortal Kombat even if it’s just a Cameo, or maybe blizzard can come out of no where and crush someone Sub Zero just froze lol.
While I personally don't like the humans in primal rage 2. The game still looks fun as fuck and would of kicked a lot of ass if it was released.
Now if only Psy-Ops 2 had a similar story.
