Most of them are nervously coming and going but a couple of them are really chilling. What a treat to see. Never thought that many of them could tolerate being together like this.
Same here, it was odd seeing hummers this chill. I'm guessing because it's not a food source and just a chill spot, it's not *quite* as competitive. There's one hummer sitting in the water near the top-left and he hardly moved the entire video 😅
@@ismayb754 They have to bathe often as I learned. It makes sense, since they go inside flowers often getting nectar & pollen on their feathers. A larger bird may not affect so much, but the hummers are so tiny!
i've had up to 30, for a few weeks at a time, when they start flying south for the winter. this year, however... i have one bird. all the crap they are spraying in the clouds seem to be taking a toll on their little tiny bodies. makes me so sad. i also have friends who have anywhere from 10-50 birds at one time eating at their feeders. and i have more feeders (5 to their 1) out than they do. must be something to do with their location?
I like how pretty much all birds really enjoy a shallow pool of water. I never thought I'd see so many hummingbirds all together like this, sitting around no less!

Martha Hansen Go pop a tampon and quit PMS-ing you spazzy little bitch. Your PMS is starting to show again. I know being old sucks. But get over it, woman.
It's interesting that these all appear to be male Allen's Hummingbirds,, which are fiercely territorial and seldom number more than a few individuals in any given area. I'd guess that this location is on a migration route at a time of year when mostly males are migrating, perhaps ahead of the females so that they can establish a territories before the girls arrive... Anyway, it's nice to see them more-or-less getting along when they'd normally be fighting like mad dogs!
You are correct, these are all male Allen’s Hummingbirds. When these group-bathing events take place, there seems to be a method to the madness. It always starts with male Allen’s, then at some point male Anna’s move-in and take over, then it’s female Allen’s turn and finally female Anna’s Hummingbirds have a wash. When hummingbirds in this area are bathing in smaller numbers, less segregation (sex and species) takes place. You are also correct that for the most part, Allen’s Hummingbirds are a migratory species of hummingbird. But there is one segment of the population that has always been a resident to the Channel Islands off the coast of Southern California. Now there is another non-migratory group of Allen’s Hummingbirds expanding in the Los Angeles Basin. It is not well understood if this “new” population (about 35 years old) started with the Channel Island birds or if some of the coastal migratory birds simply decided to stay put in the L.A. area. DNA testing is now taking place to determine which is the case. So, to comment to your comment directly, the birds you see in the video are part of the now resident Los Angeles population. They fight all day long around the feeders but apparently are fine with sharing a water resource with each other.
Fascinating. I've been watching/feeding/filming/studying the birds here in the Santa Clarita valley (about 22 miles inland) for 20+ years and have noticed that there has been a resident population of Allen's Hummingbirds here for at least the past ten years. Certain identifiable females are here year-round while the population noticeably increases in early spring with new individuals either arriving or just passing through. Interestingly, the "new" males that appear in spring are usually more brown/tan (although they all still have some green) than the winter males. Those which remain in winter have a lot of green on their backs. Since Rufous and Allen's almost certainly interbreed where they overlap, it makes me wonder if the migratory instinct comes from the Rufous genes while the resident tendency comes from the Allen's. Some genetic data would be most interesting. I've also noticed that the birds tend to fight a lot less (even at nectar sources) when there are a LOT of birds present. It appears that when in large numbers it's simply overwhelming and a waste of effort to try and defend the feeder, so they just tolerate each other as best they can. The gender and species-specific grouping I've never observed or even heard of before, although we have nowhere near the number of males (or birds in general) as seen in these pool party videos. I will definitely have to put out a bathing facility and see what happens! Thanks for the great info!
JCMegabyte , I saw a documentary once where this 1 species of humming bird was alive ONLY because somewhere deep in the middle of nowhere on their migratory trip someone in some random tiny country puts up tons of feeders. Thousands of birds stop there after a trip across open water. Without that place they would die of starvation. I always remembered that and it brought me joy to see their fragility and strength.

Target51 If there are that many hummers in one back yard, then they are eating (or drinking) the owner's bird feeders to exhaustion! The feeders must take gallons of sugar water a day. they need tough love, they need to go do what they were meant to do: suck nectar from flowers, not feeders.
Hummingbirds are usually extremely territorial, it's interesting that they drop that behavior for a water source such as that in this video. Truly one of the most fascinating creatures in the world. So extremely brittle yet capable of movements that are unparalleled by any other species. Truly amazing.
Yeah I was wondering that too they're cocky, aggressive little things (but still adorable). Like Lana said, though, maybe it's because there's no competition for food?
So Martha Hansen has invaded this comment as well with her negativity. We may live in a Big Brother world but I see no wrong catching these little guys on camera... Delightful scene...

I have a hummingbird feeder on our front porch that I fill every few days with simple syrup - part water and sugar and it's chilled from the fridge before I put it out. I see several hummingbird in the evening and early morning when it it's the cooler part of the day.
Hummingbirds are may favorite feathered friends and this was too cute! I've never seen more than 2 or 3 together at the same time so I assume this was a family reunion.

Dislike bots. They’re just robots pressing the thumb down button automatically on any video, to spread negativity, set up by some sad people. Send them love and light, they need it! 💝🌟
That was delightful. True about the way they get on generally, so it was amazing to see them congregate at the water source. I plant loads of Monarda just for these little beauties and they can NOT STAND it if another one flies in to the drift. There is plenty to share but they are so territorial over a food source they peep at each other aggressively and there is always a chase-away. So much energy lost in this behaviour when there's so much to be had for all of them from the flowers if they could just get on with sharing.
Hilarious idea. Love it. I get people knocking and asking for some and I share freely. I have never had any luck propagating by seed - the best way is to dig a bit and off it goes.
Thanks Patty! I am excited to hear you want to plant it for the hummingbirds. Monarda is also known as bergamot, horsemint and bee balm. It has the square stem of all mint family plants. It's very fragrant, sometimes a bit musky. It comes in a range of colours from Red through dark fuchsia, bright pink all the way to mauve, which is just beautiful. And ALL of it attracts hummingbirds. Mine starts flowering in July and goes through till frost. If you have a local plant exchange or gardeners' group, I bet you can ask for a bit and someone will give it. Like I said, I always like to pass it on. It's a great plant because it clumps nicely, and it is easily controllable because the root system is surprisingly shallow. I'm in Ottawa, and it has never been killed off by the winter cold here. Verdict: tough as old boots! Monarda is beloved by bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. I believe in looking after ALL of them, and I NEVER spray any of my plants (it can get powdery mildew, but it won't affect the flowering, just the foliage), Anything feeding in my garden has to be safe from chemicals. Deadheading individual heads once the florets have gone will encourage more blooms, and if you can stand the look of it, once the killing frost has done its thing the seed heads will be a food source for birds in winter. Chickadees visit it frequently. It is pretty ugly then, but it helps the birds.
one day in Costa Rica a hummingbird got into my house and couldn't escape. he wore himself out to the point of exhaustion trying to get out of a closed window. I gently picked him up in a towel and released him. The next day while i was ironing a shirt he came to the laundry romm window and just hovered there for a while, just watching me. was he trying to say Thank you????? go figure
A Chickadee was flying around in my garage with a long string of lint caught in its foot, making it hard for it to fly and also making it exhausted. I carefully covered it with an old bed sheet and removed the lint from its foot. I lifted the bed sheet to release it and it seemed surprised and hesitated for a moment before flying off. It never came back to thank me and also crapped all over my car.
I gotta say, this was just as magical and wholesome as I expected, but I have to be honest - based off the title I was a little disappointed Mambo No.5 wasn't playing.

I feel like they're kinda curious cause they always land nearby me & watch for a few then takeoff again. Almost like they're being a little nosey at times 😂😂
I have a hummingbird feeder and have never seen them sharing together. One chases the other one off every time. Your little hummies are cooperating well. So sweet.❤
That thing is a perfect bird bath. I'm not shocked they love it. Not deep so they can't drown and it's constantly moving so it won't go stagnant and start growing bacteria.
Absolutely amazing!! I live on the 21st floor and I have hummingbirds come to my feeder regularly. Of course they are generally on high alert and get into hummingbird wars if two come to feed at the same time. I was beyond excited when two of them actually ate at the feeder at the same time a couple of weeks ago. To see so many in the bird bath together is precious!!
Hummingbirds: "my doctor & therapist say I need to slow down more & relax" *takes the fastest bath in the world* 😂❤ I can relate hummingbirds, I can relate.
Once I was sitting on a porch at my grandma's house and i hear this buzzing in my right ear and I turned to look at it thinking it was a bug but a tiny hummingbird just casually backed up a bit. One can forget how teeny tiny these things are.
The only way humming birds can move is by flying, their leg muscles have atrophied to the point that they can stand, but not walk. It's all in the wings.
What i hear... "Hey watch it" "No you watch it" "Ah you poke me!" "Then move tiny!" "You see a human?" "No do you?" "My beak hurts..." "Oo I smell sugar!" "Omg Lily!" "Omg Laura!" "Paul?" "Ah! Okay bye!" ... "This is nice"
Most of them are nervously coming and going but a couple of them are really chilling. What a treat to see. Never thought that many of them could tolerate being together like this.

BIg_Adam_2050: LMAO. ; )
WoW. So many of them and they are so cute. Thank you for sharing
God: do you wanna be a bird or a bee?
Hummingbird: yes
hahahahah!!! literally laffin out loud ;)
All these birds be getting laid tonight. Lmao
Mosquitoes 😲
They're much more nimble than a bee. Humming birds are straight helicopters.
Hummingbird: Neither, I want to be an unmanned drone
How can anything be this cute? Thanks for this view of so many hummingbirds!🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🐦🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
Man this is the coolest most interesting and beautiful thing I've ever seen. I didn't know hummingbirds liked water. I always saw feeding videos. So relaxing, wish it was longer. Love the humming.
I've only ever seen them near water, in the trees along the edge of a river or something 😊 but I always get them and kingfisher mixed up
all birds like water
If you are a living organism then you like water. Except koala bears
My dear Mother (1910-1997) would have loved this . She loved them . ♥️👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The problem is Devil runs the world. He is lier and murderer. This is the reason why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why the whole world is Sodom.
That's why we've got the Gospel about the God's kingdom. Jehovah would put everything in order. The dead will be resurected and we'll meet our loved ones again! :-)
Where was my invite?..im.prob not cool enough...this was my kinda party..
I want to get in there too. I think we may be dehydrated.
Wow, I have never seen so many hummingbirds at one time ever!
It's amazing isn't it?
Stacey Hall I've never seen any humming birds
Haha, I've never seen one either. When I was little, my dad used to buy hummingbird feeders, but I was never able to see one.
I have a hummingbird feeder on our front porch that I fill every few days with simple syrup - part water and sugar and it's chilled from the fridge before I put it out. I see several hummingbird in the evening and early morning when it it's the cooler part of the day.

Yes they do!
Miniature colorful planes landing and taking off! What a busy runway!! So delightful to watch!
you're telling me theres at least 4 more hummingbird pool parties?
from the sounds of it AT MINIMUM... i want to know where these other videos are, in fact i DEMAND to know.
So peaceful....
Amazing.... Could watch them all day.... And so polite to each other...
Peepful
Hummingbird: This public pool is so crowded. I should have come during weekdays.
I have tinnitus. Ive been listening to this video in loops every night for the past few months now. It really helps. Thanks for that
Hummingbirds are may favorite feathered friends and this was too cute! I've never seen more than 2 or 3 together at the same time so I assume this was a family reunion.
Why are there 1k thumbs down?
How can people not like a relaxing hummingbird pool party????.
There are some people who have specific phobias... Otherwise? No clue. Dislike bot? I mean, people have done ridiculous things like fart apps before. *shrugs*
Christine CG that’s the ones with anxieties 😂👍🏼👏🏼🖐🏼
They're losers living in their moms' basements, resentful that someone, somewhere, is happy.
Just goes to show how many BORS are out there!
LadyDMcollector
Try planting it in many different spaces if you can:) go full ninja and plant it in the neighbors' yards when they're asleep! :D
Hilarious idea. Love it. I get people knocking and asking for some and I share freely. I have never had any luck propagating by seed - the best way is to dig a bit and off it goes.
You have me Goggling to find the plant so my lil babes can have some! lol
LadyDMcollector I learned so much about gardening just from reading this thanks
Seven years on and this randomly lands on my front page. Absolutely beautiful and incredible.
I could have watched this for at least another hour~ 😍

Yes a party for the viewers indeed
one day in Costa Rica a hummingbird got into my house and couldn't escape. he wore himself out to the point of exhaustion trying to get out of a closed window. I gently picked him up in a towel and released him. The next day while i was ironing a shirt he came to the laundry romm window and just hovered there for a while, just watching me. was he trying to say Thank you????? go figure
Hank Dixon cool
A Chickadee was flying around in my garage with a long string of lint caught in its foot, making it hard for it to fly and also making it exhausted. I carefully covered it with an old bed sheet and removed the lint from its foot. I lifted the bed sheet to release it and it seemed surprised and hesitated for a moment before flying off. It never came back to thank me and also crapped all over my car.
LOL!!!
crapping all over your car was the thank you
Nooooo....he was just trying to go back inside your house again!
I could have this as one of those dynamic video wallpapers playing for hours and would never get tired of it. So relaxing :)
I was just asking myself: does wallpaper engine know about this?
"Hey howdy~"
"How's it goin~"

Um, noooo... just swim in it, don't slurp it. 🤢
I bet someone peed in the pool

Sounds like some of the pool parties I worked as a lifeguard.
I gotta say, this was just as magical and wholesome as I expected, but I have to be honest - based off the title I was a little disappointed Mambo No.5 wasn't playing.

I know this for a fact… Hummingbirds are very friendly, if you put your hand out and do not move there’s a good chance it will land on your finger, even if just for one second it’s beautiful.😊❤
I feel like they're kinda curious cause they always land nearby me & watch for a few then takeoff again. Almost like they're being a little nosey at times 😂😂
I like how peaceful they are, not fighting or harassing each other, just enjoying their baths!
Michael S They would usually be fighting.
Michael S especially considering they are normally very territorial.
You didn't see the larger birds chasing the others away when they came too close? Mostly peaceful with a few bullies. Kinda like real life everywhere.
Those humming birds will now live x2 passed their life expectancy after that relaxing break
Which isn't much, but it's still something.
im surprised no one said mission passed or level complete or something
Duuuuuude!
Imagine having this in your garden.
Incredible!
We wish. Only Sparrows or Chickadees in our bath. H birds stay at their feeder. 🤔
*They may be tiny, but they sure know how to make a big splash at the pool!*

The hummingbirds in my yard hate each other, lol.
They both are Male hummingbird, right?
Just wait for a female hummingbird that will act as a bridge between them :)
@@NativeVsColonial :)
I live how they chase each other. Like tiny fighter jets at mach 1
Hummingbirds are normally incredibly territorial.
Our males are extremely territorial 🤨. Try putting out a second feeder out where they can’t see each other.
Hahah that one hummingbird in the top left just chilling in place while everyone else zips around. Didn't want to give up the favorite chair.
When I saw him, I was like, "That's the Godfather, right there."
I'm just blown away whenever I see them flying hovering vertically and horizontally backwards forwards and sudden stops just amazing
I have a hummingbird feeder and have never seen them sharing together. One chases the other one off every time. Your little hummies are cooperating well. So sweet.❤
I find it so fascinating how they can stay so perfectly idle in the air
Only bird who can fly backwards........
Just like the hoverfly (aka flower fly, syrphid fly)
*Did you know that hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backwards.*
They can also fly upside down
But they can’t walk.
And hover
Every bird can fly backwards if you throw them.
And they have to eat many times throughout the day or they’ll die quickly
lol at the hummingbird that tried to surf the wave at 0:17

Which one?
Which one?? 😂
Nah. He’s washing his balls
Where??

OH! This explains why I can't get them to my feeder and fountain. THEY'RE ALL OVER AT YOUR HOUSE!
Someone edit in a little DJ booth with some cool lights and some neat music playing!
