    I always LOVE hearing the endings to soap themes and really, this one, actually entitled "Autumn Breeze" is a very good orchestral piece. I don't think it ever was appreciated by the fans as much as it should have been.
    The style of it is reminiscent of grand old movie scores. Big & powerful like a prime time theme, when you think of it.
    THANKS for posting!

    Very rare indeed! I always loved the extended closing credits fir the entire cast as well as a longer version of that nostalgic song. This was a year after I started watching so this really hits close to my home and heart. Thanks for the post!

    I like the way the sky looked during this theme and the theme music as well.

    I have been looking for the long slow crawl ending to this theme for years! Thanks for uploading. I really miss GH of the 80's and all the memorable characters. It will be a sad day when they cancel the remaining soaps but the reality is that they will never measure up to the greatness they all once had.

    Brings back high school memories!! Wow, did you see the great names in the cast. That was when GH was something you got home from school and tuned in for every Monday through Friday!!!

    I was walking in the front door from school when this theme was on. David Hartman of GMA would always do the voice over promo for the next Good Morning America episode.

    February, 1983. I was a seventh-grader in Chicago, rushing home after school to catch the last 15-20 minutes. Stayed glued to our 13" B&W until the credits were over. Loved Heather and all her schemes!

    The '70s and early '80s were the golden era for soaps and soap themes. GH had a sweeping, orchestral sound back then -- many of the themes were good: Y&R, Days (which wisely stayed with theirs), Another World, All My Children ...

    Right after an intense Luke and Laura episode...you'd here that dramatic sound at the end of this closing credits song....Pure freaking magic. GH has never been the same since, but it's understandable...that was just pure epic television. Grown men were actually staying home to see that "run" GH had. I don't think any soap can match that again.

    I remember coming home from grade school right smack in the middle of GH! Even thou I wanted to watch cartoons I had to wait till the end of GH (It was my mom's favorite soap next to OLTL). Anyway, right when I heard this ending the my mom would say, "Ok, 1 hour of cartoons, homework then you could go out to play til supper!!" Ahh those were the days!! Fond memories!!!

    See that's what it took back in the day for a good show: dramatic theme songs, and just the setting. No need for flashy openings. Keep it simple.

    Damn almost every writer on GH at this time would end up writing for Days of Our Lives too

    Takes me back in 1989 when I had half of days from school. It was no cartoons on and i heard this ending theme song. It embodies everything that was going on in my life in the late 80, early 90's

    Awesome to hear the end. Likely the reason for no voiceover is that the local affiliate dubbed over the network's audio with a copy of the theme (notice how it picks up in the middle - ABC never did that). The network audio always ended with a plug for "The Edge of Night", and those affiliates which didn't carry "Edge" had to cover that up somehow.

    it was very briefly during spring of 82 - and not 83 - that the corringtons were at gh before anne howard bailey took over

    Yea, it makes me cringe to see Guza's name on that scroll. He decimates every 80's vet. And the worst one was Holly Scorpio and it's clear he was a writer when Emma Samms was on during the 80's. Thanks pxlbarrel!

    Not sure if the website is still online. They had the entire theme. I have it saved. Probably came from that very 1987 episode. It doesn't have any announcements.

    I thought that was when John & Joyce were at the helm, since I remember them following Pat Falken Smith & Margaret DePriest's reign when it ended in early 1982. I think Robert J. Shaw even headwrote during the summer of '82 before Ms. Bailey came in. Did Shaw last until the end of that year, or was Bailey in sometime during the fall?

  • @VaultMasterDBT
    @VaultMasterDBT 15 років тому

    She did, but Monty wasn't responsible for the implementing of "Autumn Breeze". It originated in the summer of 1976 under Tom Donovan's reign as EP.

  • @ChrisALucente
    @ChrisALucente 16 років тому

    Pat Falken Smith and Margaret De Priest's head writing gig ended "officially" around September of '81. Thom Racina had actually 'ghost-written' the summer of '81 (Cassadine Island/freezing the world) during the writers strike. When the strike was over, Gloria Monty booted Pat and Maggie and brought Thom Racina and Leah Laiman on as head writers. Since Thom/Leah were new to the business, Gloria's pal Robert Shaw was listed as head writer when he in-fact had nothing to do with the writing.

  • @VaultMasterDBT
    @VaultMasterDBT 16 років тому

    Wait, weren't John & Joyce Corrington headwriting GH during the first half of 1983? I thought Anne Howard Bailey didn't take over until that summer..

    If they're going to do that, they could reshoot the intro in HD with a modern ambulance, rescore the opening theme and maybe make it a little longer if they still want to feature the cast members at the beginning.
    The ending is pretty easy since it's only text and background image (which should also be in HD on a nice day. Although we'd probably never see the ending on ABC (SOAPnet maybe).
    The hospital is still there so all this can still be done.

    It's really a fine piece of music, actually. Why don't they do a stereo re-record and reinstitute the music if not a reshoot of this opening, closing. Just an idea. People always seem to like this music and remember it fondly.

  • @djmyers71
    @djmyers71 14 років тому +1

    @fff1313 yea, they seriously need to bring the olld opening of GH and closing back. Or they could bring the Ambulance siren back somehow at the beginning to mix with the new style. GH is missing the boat on that. Amazing isn't it? They get paid all that money too, lol

      10 years on, we occasionally get updated exterior shots of the hospital that they took from the opening back then and updated. Sometimes it's night, sometimes it's snowing, it's astonishing what they've done with it. Looks amazing.

    continued... in May or June of '82, the Corringtons replaced Thom and Leah as head writers, but they only lasted a month or so before Anne Howard Bailey took over. Thom and Lean continued to worl wth Anne for a while.

    If GENERAL HOSPITAL is to be cancelled in 2012, as rumor has it, it would be great if they brought this back, or, in their final episode, go out on this tune.
