Hey! It’s DonnaLou Stevens. A friend of mine just sent this to me. I’d been having a Twilight Zone experience the last few days of weird and icky stuff going on, so when I got this video, it was like a fun and soothing balm for all that. Thanks for the big smile.
Actually the Kickstarter launched at the same time Older Ladies launched and I produced second video, If I Were Enlightened (I wish I had chosen another, more universal theme as well for my second video, but hindsight is 20x20, right?
You were right on a couple of things. I’ve been an actress all my life and those women were a collection of my friends and their friends and their friends. We had a total 100% blast making that video.
I’m in another band called The Texas Lovebirds now. We do mostly my original music and it’s all very theatrical, uplifting and often funny. Unfortunately we were just getting off the ground when Covid hit, but hope to resume soon.
Anyway, you asked me to leave a comment, so here it is. I appreciate your fun review and outgoing personality. This made my day. Take care.

@donnalou stevens Well this made my day, having you stop by and share some thoughts!! Thank you for the kind words, and thank you for your energy and wonderful work (and also your infectious smile--it's like the cutest thing I've seen in a long time :-)). I hope you're able to get things jumpstarted again once Covid goes sayonara, and given your acting chops and evident drive, I have little doubt you'll be back up and running in due course. Happy New Year, and thank you for obliging my request to drop by--what a great way to close out the year on the channel!!

@donnalou stevens @rockn2country Donnalou you are exactly what the doctor ordered! I'm glad Don introduced us to you, all the ladies on the channel had a blast and were reminded that we are still fabulous! :-) Your charisma is contagious and your confidence is inspiring, thanks for what you do! Can't wait for Texas Lovebirds to get rolling! :-)

@@christineems8754 Thanks for the lovely message. I hope we get rolling too. We have so much fun. I write most of our songs, so a lot of them are funny, but just like Older Ladies, most of them have an underlying message that can be taken seriously. I also write jazzy little 40's sounding tunes and poignant songs. All of them though are 'feel good' in nature. That has always been important to after learning that my songs stick in people's heads. "Well," I questioned, "What do I want to get stuck in there then?" Take care.

@@RockN2Country Hey Don, I posted this video on my FB page and shared it with my sisters. Everyone loved it and thought you were a total joy to watch. I spent the last little bit of my evening watching other videos on your channel. I'm wondering the story of how you started doing this. You're funny, sincere and thoughtful; that's a good combo for a music critic. ANNNDDD, you reviewed some kick ass singers that I've never heard of. 'Songs She Sang in the Shower'... wow... Colter Wall - blown away...
I entered a lyrics contest and this guy's song won first place. I love it and think you might too. americansongwriter.com/shawn-byrne-scores-2020-lyric-contest-grand-prize/ and here's a pretty one of mine you might like to give you an idea of the flip side of what I write... ua-cam.com/video/uCJZ_6fDsXU/v-deo.html

@donnalou Stevens Well that put a big smile on my face. I have two sisters--I'm the one in the middle, go figure--and know the risks involved with sharing things with siblings, especially my older one--ha!! I'm glad they had fun with it and thank you and them for the kind sentiments. I am also humbled by your words--like, turning a little red as I type this.
As for how I got started with the channel, I went to Florida to help my mom look for a smaller place to live, since she'd been talking about it with me for a while. I had planned on being there for a couple of months, but while I was there she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. So I decided to stay and take care of her even though she was asymptomatic and had no pain. That of course changed, and I didn't want her dying in a nursing home, as (of all things) I couldn't fathom staring up at a strange ceiling in the final months and days of my life, and didn't want that for her. She outlasted the prognosis by quite a bit, and to fill in some of the time and to remain somewhat relevant, I discovered reaction videos. I had no idea they were a thing, but when I saw a few the idea got in my head to do a country-music reaction channel. I started with Nashville country, though mostly non-pop stuff, and once I got going people started requesting traditional country. I'm a word nerd who was also born with an unhealthy dose of compassion, and traditional fired on all cylinders. I was hooked. So almost all of the songs I react to are brand new to me, even if the artists aren't.
And when I get to experience an artist like you, of which there are no others, whose artistry, intellect, confidence, beauty and joie de vivre all show up in a song and video, I say to myself, "damn, I'm so glad I started doing this!" So there ya go. My nephew went to UT Austin and has lived there since graduating a few years ago, so if/when I visit I'll shoot you a PM and maybe we can say hi in person. Stay tuned!

The nice thing about older women is that we have the confidence to laugh at ourselves (or should), but also know very well our strengths and weaknesses! So why not have fun with it? At 48 I'm definitely in that category, as I've noticed a few young men at the store or work call me "young lady" UGH what?! Gentlemen, it's only charming on 80 year olds! 😄 But I still have to laugh as it's just part of aging! This song was super fun! 😂

Never come across Don [?] or The Stone Pony before, well I am from UK. I have been performing this song over here for a few years now - introduce it by telling audience that I am going to teach them how to Yodel ! It is very fitting for a lady of a certain age but still with 'attitude' ! Incidentally by singing 'Older Ladies' you can join in any song with a yodel chorus !

As you said, this lady's from Austin...nuff said. :-) I know this was mostly a joke, but there was some well-intentioned social commentary inserted in the message too. Will it work? My vote would have to be "yes" from the amount of saggy, fatty, uncovered skin being paraded through the aisles of Walmart these days. I actually felt sorry for some of her friends in the video. Yes, some women with the right DNA or Hollywood trainers and surgeons certainly quality for the title of "GILF", but for the rest of the world, the preservation of dignity must continue to rely on wisdom, experience, humor, and the precise timing of a light switch. :-)

One small correction: Neither the recording nor the video was funded by crowd funding. (I am not at liberty to say how it was funded.) After the video caught on, DannaLou used crowd funding to produce her next video, If I Were Enlightened.
Also, I want to add the she did not monitorize Older Ladies; she considered it her gift to women.

The crowd funding was to pay for the cost of hiring a production company to help them make a professional looking music video. She said in a TV interview that she had never filmed a music video. Filming, sound recording and mixing, editing, costumes all cost money, equipment and experiance they didn't have. This video has never been monetized on youtube. She put it out there for fun and affirmation. She is a professional local coffeehouse. performer. You just didnt get this one did you? The guys in their video were their actual menfolk who do love them just the way they are! So much that they were willing to dress up and be in their silly video. If you spent 30+yrs loving someone, dressing up as Bavarian peasants yodeling out for your love and listening for the reply back is not a big ask.😂 The song isn't just about the women's standards but about the specific men in their lives who love them back. Its a reaffirming statement by all women to their men going through midlife crisis that question whether they still got it and think they want to find a younger model. Love isn't about physical appearances, but about the years of experiences you had together that made you who you both are. You won't find it in a younger woman that hasn't gone through it yet. The older wiser versions of yourselves are making no apologies. At this point I like the person I've become; that's self love and self acceptance. If you can't see it you aren't worth my time after all.😂
