Adding to discussion, and looking at the image you shared, I believe the Select brady your friend was offered, is the exact same fake card that was previously outed in the blowout/twitter thread.
The seller just changed the fake panini case seal.

Once cardboard started to be treated like a commodity, all the fun got sucked out of it. You know how I feel I have 50 years of cards, more of a scam now than ever
This is proof card collectors won't ever be happy. Yall either want the hobby to "grow" or for everyone leave it so you are the only one collecting cards. This hobby has always had scammy people. It use to just be middle aged men, now it could be anyone scamming.

Glad you called these fakes out. The entire hobby positivity crowd are probably the same ones that would purchase a fake slab, figure out its fake and then attempt to pass on said fake to unsuspecting buyers.
That has been my most unusual experience, someone trying to trade on an auction I have posted. If I wanted to trade, I wouldn't put it on ebay for sale...

It always makes me wince when people bitch about someone informing the masses with a warning and facts or a known issue, how could that be negative? If I was in the market for that Brady and I saw on here it was fake I would be relieved you saved me the money. But then again I also read product reviews.
People complain that my content is focused on this kind of stuff. People come here for it so want to keep them informed. They talk smack as if there isn’t 1000 traditional positive channels for card content. Its hilarious.

The sad part Dan is that yes those are obviously fake , the thing that’s scary though is even the panini cards coming out of sealed product are sometimes also fake autos now with cousins and relatives signing this stuff since panini is so loose with the signing sessions , the integrity of the hobby is at risk for sure .
youre right with those but mainly sticker autos I stay away from those cards that sports players never seen or signed in person sticker autos suck

It’s really sad that people are so lazy, spoon fed positivity and have stopped thinking for themselves more than ever in the card world. No it isn’t all doom and gloom but there is an absolute ton of shady stuff going on, even at the commercial level and things will never improve without the disruptive voices.
People might wake up, they have in other areas e.g. MTG/hasbro stock crash but it’ll take a breaking point moment or when it really starts to hit the wallets of big business.
Agree, it’s actually pretty fun to see people get so worked up about content that isn’t mainstream or positive. Guys, 99.9% of the content is aimed that way, isn’t that enough?

I understand what's going on here and it's terrible but isn't any unlicensed sports cards fake? I mean think about it. They were made in a printing press just like these fakes were? I'm not justifying. What people are doing is right or wrong. Don't get me wrong but leaf for example. And I do like leaf but they have no licensing. So couldn't you consider that being a fake? Just because they're promoting their name doesn't justify the fact that anybody can go out and make a card. But I understand what's going on once again

The difference is you know a card is unlicensed when you buy it. These things are fake and pretending to be genuine.
