    Tailgate really does looks good but unless its a push button to open and close il just need to keep my barn doors. Mine is a 2011 white t5.1. Not sure if I could get that for these though.

      Seriously I agonised over this for ages but actually removing and replacing the doors only took a few hours. The wiring was daunting, but only the central locking was hard to work out what to do, mainly because my loom had been cut.

      I googled loads and made myself an excel sheet and tried to plan it out to be totally prepared, the video just shows it going to plan. I got lucky with the door, lights, panels and bumper. Had to buy hinges and strut kit separately. It helped that I plan, fairly patient and I'm reasonably comfortable hitting my van with a lump hammer when needed.
      My worry about central locking, I was happy enough to risk thr door being locked shut and needing a cable release inside the van, in the end I didn't need to worry.

    • @TheKingsofFrogIsland

      I haven't tried it, so I can only guess. It looks to have the same overall area and the body of van doesn't seem to be any different. I'd guess it would fit. Assume would need lights and bumper still.

    Hi Mark, helpful video thanks for posting. Did you have to do much aligning or adjustment of the door, hinges, guides etc to get the door to close smoothly? My tailgate needs a real hard slam to get it shut properly which can’t be right.

    • @TheKingsofFrogIsland
      @TheKingsofFrogIsland 3 роки тому

      I had a few goes at getting it aligned and to be fair I need to just adjust it again slightly. I used spacers to hold the weight up, then tightened up when shut. The lock plate seemed to be ok on first try, I just aligned it with the hinge

    • @Tattmemore
      @Tattmemore 3 роки тому

      @@TheKingsofFrogIsland so you can do the tightening and adjusting of the hinges with the door shut? And shim the door around the edges so it’s equal. That would be really good...I guess the guides and bump stops are then adjusted afterwards.
      On another note...are you the same Kings that recorded “welcome to the void”??? what a fantastic track...honestly is one of my favourites!

    • @TheKingsofFrogIsland
      @TheKingsofFrogIsland 3 роки тому

      @@Tattmemore I don't have tr bump stops in, but I just closed the door with shims in gave it a niludge to align it and tightened up the bolts. I did it a couple of times and want to do it again as still not 100pc. But its easy enough to do with the gas struts off.
      And yes, I replied from the wrong account, we are still making music but get distracted with vans!

The other end where the gas struts fit to the van I bought some special adapter plates on ebay. It's a fair while ago now and beyond what's in the video I'm struggling to remember. Nice work. Trying to copy your wiring on a 2013 t5.1. Tailgate is on. Have the 2 wires to the bcm. I have the wire from pin 15 to earth on the van side and cut on the Tailgate loom. Pins 13 and 14 to the bcm from the Tailgate loom. Pin 13 to earth on the van side connector. Do I cut the wire from pin 14 van side connector ?.
    I would greatly appreciate your help in this.
    Regards Patrick

      I am struggling to remember what I did. Originally I was going to use a relay but ended up only having 2 wires to the bcm. On my notes it says bcm pin 23 to door handle. And bcm pin 10 to door lock. It seemed mega simple from memory, literally 2 wires to bcm and the coding and my handle worked with central locking etc. For the life of me I can't remember cutting into any wires for this.

    • @Patrick-cz6es
      @Patrick-cz6es 2 роки тому

      @@TheKingsofFrogIsland thanks anyway. The routing of 2 wires to the bcm was simple enough , it's what to do with the 17 pin connector and the wiring to and from it.

    • @markkarlbuteux5428
      @markkarlbuteux5428  3 роки тому

      I hit one of the existing catch retainers with a lump hammer and big screwdriver until dislodged, then with the bumper etc off I managed to get it to come out through one of the holes.
      It wasn't as bad as it sounds.
      Then I tied string to it, pulled it back through to the centre and managed to get one side attached with the retainer and a bolt, then undid the string and fitted the other side. I was mega lucky, it worked first time and threaded easily.
      Definitely doable though, it worried me for a while but by then I'd committed

      Hi, I got the tailgate, lights, panels and bumper on ebay, all second hand.
      The wiring had to be changed as the central locking for this age door doesn't have a key and works differently to thr barn doors, even though same age. It was much simpler than I expected.

    • @TheKingsofFrogIsland
      @TheKingsofFrogIsland 2 роки тому

      I did mine over a weekend. Actually removing doors and hanging new door didn't take too long. The bits that took time were the wiring, research, running cables, faffing with the lock and the bcm and coding. 2 days conservatively, possible in a day. If I was making promises I had to deliver on I'd say give me a couple of days.

      Mine had had the loom cut on the tailgate which made it harder than it needed to be. I approached it just using a tester, worked out the earth, then the number plates, brake lights, no heated screen or wiper for me. For the lock I traced the wires from the handle by testing both ends of my loom to work out which was which. I then ran a long 2 core cable from under the dash, under the mat, round the step and back into the nearside wheel arch. I bought the correct pins from Farnell and pushed them into the bcm. It was very daunting. I used a friend's vcds to code it. There is an alternative way, you connect a relay to the handle in the door and then the normal locking works by connecting the wires to that, google t5 tailgate relay lock, or something like that. I went down the this route initially but changed my mind as I want my van to be as close to stock as possible.
      Apologies if not clear, it was a while ago. If I did it again I'd still use bcm and coding, in the end it didn't take long and worked first time. You can connect wires, run cable etc then find an enthusiast with vcds to help. It was only a couple k characters in the settings that needed to be changed.
      For fitting I figured...fit door, sort our number plates and brakes, good to go, can open it from inside by pulling leaver, sort lock and central locking later. Haha

    Is there a benefit to not having barn doors

    • @markkarlbuteux5428
      @markkarlbuteux5428  3 роки тому +1

      Not especially. When I first wanted a T5 I looked for one with air con, mfsw, cruise, tailgate and not white. It saved me a lot initially having a plumbers van with none of those things. Retro fitting them all staggered the cost. The main reason for the door was aesthetics, I like the look af the bike rack high up vs bumper mounted. I already had the high up bike rack and managed to get it over barn doors but was a pain as couldn't access van. Changing it over works better. Barn doors are more practical in tight spots, but I was chuffed to bits when the tailgate was done and working.

      It was a t5.1 tailgate to a t5.1 probably same age is my guess.
      No welding, the hinges have washer / spacers between the van and hinge. Personally I think it could do withe strengthening, but I'm not the first to fit it directly and I've yet to read any horror stories. I think its possible to fit t6 to t5, but can't be certain.
