I did this on my own, because in Sweden we don't get to learn about this. Tragic events such as the Armenian genocide, the great leap forward, the purge in Soviet Union etc. goes unacknowledged. Hopefully The new generation of turkey will hopefully come forward and help their government recognise what happened and fix the bonds between Turkey and Armenia and apologise, if you haven’t heard about the Stolen Generation that happened in Australia where they tried to rid of the aboriginal population and breed them out etc, it took almost a century but the Australian government has finally acknowledged what happens in the past and apologised to the aboriginal community, it can’t change what happened but it brought some closure and peace to the situation sorry I’m rambling
    Edit: I kno it’s not the new generations fault or did anything wrong but it’s the best way to move forward and bring peace so grudges are not held for so long, Germany apologised, at least acknowledge that it happened

    • @nicoleatkins598
      @nicoleatkins598 4 роки тому +1

      Bigfoot I get what you mean, we haven’t done anything but it’s nice to acknowledge the past and not deny past events because even though it was long ago (so was the stolen generation in Australia) there are still families out there that have been affected and were never consolidated, even if it were your great great grandmother it’s still would of made an emotion impact on the generations after her ordeal. It’s just the good thing to do to bring peace, it’s the only way to move forward and grudges wouldn’t be held for so long, I mean Germany apologised haha but yeah ordinary Turks I’m sure would want this long time tension to end too I’m not saying they are all deniers I’m talking about the government not the people haha

    • @nicoleatkins598
      @nicoleatkins598 4 роки тому +2

      Bigfoot re-read my comment haha, I never said the Turks had to apologise, I was talking about their government and how they deny that these events happened and need to acknowledge it so that the Armenian people can get closure

      @Bigfoot People are still voting (with the majority) for a government that denies the genocide of the armenias, the assyrians and the pontic greeks. And right now, are commiting a modern genocide against the kurdish people. This nation is build on the blood of others and it does not seem to bother them. A recognition is the LEAST they could do.

    I was 13 when Toxicity came out and a week later 9/11 happened followed by the wars. It was a perfect storm and red pill that shaped my politics for the rest of my life. They were perspectives I never heard from people around me but they resonated so deep

    I was 14 when the Toxicity album came out and became an obsessed fan over night. I enjoyed their self titled album even more for its darker vibes. I learned about the Armenian Genocide because of P.L.U.C.K. which is also my favorite S.O.A.D. song.
    A year later in 9th grade in History class, we were tasked to do a report about World War 1 but I instead chose to cover the Armenian Genocide, printing off photos of the atrocities found on google and sharing it with the class. My teacher was pretty upset.
    I joined the Military at 18 and went on multiple CSAR deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan and all the lyrics of the songs I listened to were put into a deeper perspective as I was beginning to understand corrupt leadership and the military industrial complex by first hand account. I would even lift weights to "Psycho" and "Attack" on nearly hourly long loops. This band has had a profound affect on me well into my adult years.
