- “Annabel Lee” was written by Edgar Allan Poe in 1849. The popularity of the poem lies in the fact that it represents love in its most pure form.
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee-
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and me.
And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.
The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!-that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.
But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling-my darling-my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea-
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

This is the best recital of the poem that conveys the true feeling of Poe for his Annabel Lee.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you!
Whata lovely voice that took me in the shoes of lover of annabellee
@@blue_sky_motivation pleasure is all mine,
We all have our Annabelle Lee
“And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
of the beautiful Annabel Lee”
This is why I love poetry, it's such a fluid and uninhibited way of expressing yourself.
um sure
@sly3335Poetry is a beautiful flower Rap is a blooded cudgel!!!
@sly3335 Tu Pac read Shakespeare's poems.
@sly3335 people tend to be so damn dense. You are correct ✅ rap stems from poetry.
Read this for the first time in 8th grade... I'm 44 now and it's still my favorite
‘Of my darling - my darling- my life and my bride’ , that delivery is so powerful. I just burst into tears.
Magnificent performance. Bravo.
Thanks for listening!
The reading was so splendid that I lost myself in the kingdom by sea
What a beautifully haunting, mesmerizing reading of "Annabel Lee"
My mom read this to me when I was a child. It was one of our favorites for as long as she lived. It’s my favorite to this day.
Not only is this poem sad, but that portrait of Poe at the beginning…my gosh, he looks so tragic! He was so gifted!
True ! - But Poe was also on the Boundary of Romantic (Gothic ) Literature,
of Modern Chemical Science, so he was Fascinated by the newly
Invented Science of Photography !
He thought it the Greatest Invention Ever ! - He also followed William Herschel in his great researches into modern Astronomy and Cosmology
(see Poe’s Famous Prose Poem “Eureka”)
Famously, Charles Baudelaire and Nathaniel Hawthorne were both Strong
Admirers of Poe , although i Never could Discover whether Poe had ever
bothered to read Mary Shelley’s long classic Gothic novel: “Frankenstein” ❓🧟♂
Undoubtedly Poe would Have HEARD of the 2nd (Signed) Edition - which
was widely Popular - even in Then Pragmatic &. Uncultured America❗ 🇺🇸 ✌
This is the very first Edgar Allen Poe poem I ever heard and read.
I've been listening on repeat for several minutes, and I'm in tears. I feel such sadness, grief, and love.
I had someone special, ever since I was a 5-year-old girl. His name was Nick. We were best friends since the very beginning, closest playmates at school. Ever since I discovered, Nick has fully supported my passion for writing. He was always by my side when the rest of the world wouldn't be. Little did I know, I had been in love with him for pretty much our entire lives. He was THE one for me. Over the years, our relationship grew from playmates, to best friends, to sweethearts. We really started having feelings in sixth grade, and after graduating 8th grade, we decided to start dating. We were very in love, but I was quite shy. Our relationship didn't last very long, though. Only after a year since we started dating, Nick suddenly passed away at only 15 years old. He had a heart attack in his sleepy due to a rare heart condition. The autopsy found that his heart was swollen. I've been in deep grief ever since, and it still hurts so much, despite the years. Despite the pain I go through every day, and what I've gone through ever since the tragic day of June 9, 2013, I remember the love Nick and I had and nurtured for the better through the years we spent together. Those years I spent....some of the very best times I can remember. He was always by my side, despite everything. He was there for me more than most of my ableist family. I'm autistic, and so was he. So, we simply just understood each other from the very beginning. I think about him, the memories we shared, and the love we had for each other and let grow, every single day. Even though it'll be 11 years this June, the pain tends to still feel fresh. I miss Nick every single day. I had dreams that I would be his bride, his one and only. We had even talked about it a few times, agreeing we would spend our lives together. There are many nights where I just lay in bed, thinking about him, thinking how I could've done better as his love, as his one and only. I feel some regret, but I know there's nothing more I can do. I just let myself feel the pain, cry the tears when I have to, and look back on the memories.
I love you, Nick, and I miss you every day. 💔🥺
Thank you for sharing. Sorry for your loss and I hope you can find love again. You sound like a lovely , passionate person and I hope life will be kinder in the future. Cherish the memories but please don’t let them consume your future. I was 19 five minutes ago, now I’m seventy-three.
My god, that is so very tragic. Live your life as he would have encouraged you to do. 😢
The problem is, you'll still have s3 x with another man. Your loyalty means nothing.
True love never dies, and it is a real thing, im sure Nick would want you to be happy. And live life to the fullest for him. It's sofa king hard, 2 not count the days, years, seasons since u last saw a loved 1. Supposedly it1's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all. But tell that to Poe and the rest of us. =P
The Raven, dream within a dream, alone and annabel Lee were my favorite poems by Edgar Allan Poe
Those are my favourite poems by Poe!
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon that is dreaming.i always think of boris johnson when i hear this.
Annabelle lee is my all time favorite poem 😭😭
Poe is such an artist with words. He expresses loss and sorrow and darkness so well.
Oh my gosh, the amount of emotion this poem stirs up is incredible.
Poe has been my inspiration since I was in Elementary School. The best.
I was very, very pregnant the first time I really read this poem. 10 years later, my daughter Annabelle just listened to this poem and cried. Keep up the good work, Edgar!
Edgar died in the 1900s...
This made me laugh
The bloke is dead missus
The voice and the poem it self made the very perfect combination of all time .
Extremely delightful
Edgar Alan Poe is my favourite poet and this poem is my favourites among his works ❤️❤️
Poe's last poem, in which he returns to his usual theme of mourning the loss of a loved woman. "The Sleeper", which is one of my favourite poems, deals with the same theme which he wrote when he was only 22 years old.
I must admit, I wasn't fully aware of this poem (per say). But after hearing the words, the music and the amazing narrative of the voice actor for this video. Wow, what an amazing view of things. Instant thumbs up from me! 😎
I needed Poe tonight. This work is so beautiful and now my favorite poem.
Thanks for listening!
Oh....what an anguish he must have been when he wrote this! 😔 I can feel his loss in his words.
one of the best poems ...😊a poem filled with feelings ...Anebel Lee is the best poem for this ...
keep going on
Brilliant reading of a wonderful poem.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
This is the best reading I’ve come across
Childhood is thinking this poem is weird because the narrator visits his love's grave every night.
Adulthood is knowing what it means to love someone so deeply, so fiercely, that you'd rather crawl under the earth with them than go another day without them by your side.
I understand it
One of my favorite poems and beautifully read here...
Absolutely beautiful
This is my absolute favorite poem in existence still
I was named after the poem, my father chose my name, the first time I listened to it, I didn't understand since I was so young (7) but now that I'm older I understand.
always loved this poem. this for sure is my favorite reading I've heard. thank you
Thanks for listening. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
....In this kingdom by the sea. Beautiful but sad poetry.
I recently went to Richmond, VA and stayed at Linden Row Inn, a very quaint Inn in downtown area where Poe lived all those years ago. They had Poe's complete works books spread out all over, along with a raven on every fireplace mantle. I immediately recalled a line of this poem when I asked the desk clerk what the cat's name was and she said Annabel. This presentation is awesome! I don't think I've read this poem in 40 years and this was a great way to hear it again. thx!
Wow! The poem emphasizes the enduring power of love, even in the face of death and separation. It explores themes of love, loss, and mortality, with Poe's signature gothic and melancholic style.
Actually, what the poem explores is a man's dangerous obsession with the girl he once loved.
Every night, he goes into her tomb, and sleeps next to her corpse. That's not beautiful to me. That's DISTURBING.
I love Edgar Allan Poe's poems.
That's the beauty of LOVE
One of my favorites. Such a beautiful poem. Thank you.
Thanks for listening.
this poem will always remind me of my favorite english teacher from grade 7
I feel your pain Edgar!
I ve read this poem since 1975 and learned it by heart

Poe is an amazing poet. Poetry is something that calms me.

Such beautiful words but all i can do is cry.❤I love this
My favorite poem from Edgar Allen Poe
My heart is broken. Wonderful
❤
This poem has such a deep meaning. We do not even realize how emotionally damaged and hurt was. We always liked at Poe as a drunken fool, but I recommend reading about his life, it is very sad.
Thank you. I will.
I never have heard anyone speak of him this way??? In my 30 years of loving literature and poetry, and my mother, who is an English major. He's always been known to me as a tragic story.
One of my favorites love poems
This brought me to tears 😭

Such a great work
A moment of silence for those who haven’t discovered this poem.
I think this was my favorite
A love of this magnitude doesn’t come very often...then again, love can be stupidly powerful..
I love this poem. Great job.
Visited the cemetery in Charleston where his said lover was buried. It’s very beautiful and a must visit
Who is here after watching The Fall of The House of Usher?
I've been a Poe fan since I was like 10. I had low expectations for The Fall of the House of Usher because I knew it wasn't true to the story. But I was actually impressed with it. Each episode was a modern take on a Poe story or poem. 10/10
No shame to you all! But I have an OG book of Poe's works that has been on my bookshelf for 17 years 😅❤
I’m 32, and I had to read this poem in school 20 years ago. I had forgotten it, and Usher brought those memories back. I’ve always loved this poem.
Yup huge Poe fan!!
Me

Im seeing this after watching The Fall of the House of Usher on Netflix
Wow... just wow....love poes works, but holy wow
gorgeous ❤️
This poem defines the adjective "haunting." Poe was the truest of dark geniuses.
My favorite version of this is in La Dispute's track "three"
I recited this poem to the instrumental version of We Have All the Time In the World from the soundtrack of On Her Majesty’s Secret Service for a college project. It was scary how the music fits the poem. The professor and the class were speechless. It got me an A in the class.
This had a few extra words compared to the one in my Poe book
This poem makes me feel like there is such thing as ture love and known that I'm someone Annabel lee
Wow wow
I feel what he feels even though I've never felt it before
Love it❤❤❤
The fall of the house of Usher brought me here
Is this you reading? Such a great delivery!

Annabel Lee - Edgar Allan Poe
De demult s-a-ntîmplat, de demult…
Era lângă-o mare cu ape-argintii,
O fecioară trăia, şi poate c-o ştiţi,
O fecioară, Annabel Lee ;
Şi trăia doar c-un gând - s-o iubesc mereu,
Şi trăia - să mă poată iubi.
Eu - un copil - şi ea un copil,
Lângă-o mare cu ape-argintii,
Ne iubeam ca un cântec mai presus de iubire
Ca un cântec - Annabel Lee ;
îngheţând-o pe Annabel Lee ;
Măritele-i neamuri au dus-o departe.
Al fecioarei Annabel Lee;
Şi din ochii stelari eu văd ochii ei mari,
Ai frumoasei Annabel Lee;
Şi în fluxu-nnoptat lîngă ea stau culcat,
Lângă draga, iubita, logodnica mea,
în mormântul din ţărmuri pustii,
Lângă ţărmuri cu valuri pustii.
(trad. Mihu Dragomir)
My favorite
This is definitely they way he spoke it
Did you recite this yourself? That was horrifyingly beautiful, as I type with tears in my eyes
