Apologies about the re--upload. Got hit with a late copyright strike and had to make the necessary changes. First time this has happened. Hopefully, not again. Decided to enhance the narration as well. I hope you all like it! Thank you all for all you support! New videos are on the way very soon!
@@scotts462 yeah, it was weird, but I understand. I was using some material from the movie. But I do know the limits you can use. But this movie has been very strict and had figure it out for a week now. Right when I thought I had it, and made the video public, they hit me with a strike. Crossing my fingers everything is good to go. Thank you so much for watching!

I’m curious are u the narrator? Great job 😊 I really enjoyed hearing the story and whoever did the narration was so good they had me hooked listening. Thank u!
Anytime a mountaineering story mentions “alpine style” I know that things are going to go off the rails. Joe’s survival story is one of the most awe inspiring that I have ever heard. I can’t believe he was able to get himself to base camp with broken bones and no supplies after being abandoned by his friend. And they burned the poor guy’s clothes so he couldn’t even get changed. Smh, Joe is a bigger person than most. What a great guy. As for Simon- I understand why he cut the rope. But the fact that he didn’t even call out to Joe to see if he was alive when he reached the crevasse. That is my major issue with the way he handled things.
People who criticize Simon for cutting the rope have likely never had to make any kind of really tough decision in their lives. Theyre the same people who will say that someone's circumstances are the results of their own good or bad choices because their lives have never been affected by having to make a decision where both choices suck. In this situation, these decisions are already made even before the climbing starts and all parties know the deal and assume the risks. Simon had no reason to believe that Joe either was still alive or would live because he knew he couldn't help him out of the crevasse at that point. The only choice to be made was whether he wanted to join him in that hole (and almost certainly in death). People worry way too much about what others- whom they don't know, never will and don't value their opinion anyway- think of them. It's great both made it through and were able to go on and enjoy their lives.
@@roderickflint1330 I will agree with you on that because he did spend the night and could’ve still tried to see if he was alive but after experiencing what he did he probably thought there’s no way he could’ve survived. I do think everything happened for a reason because most ppl would have died experiencing this and they both had the will to live.
Your channel is stellar and I enjoyed the video again. Great work, OD! What a story! Simon Yates survived a fall July 2023 and was just interviewed about it. Of course, he was asked about this incident and distanced himself from Joe…again. Story idea: The Stolpa Family. It’s an incredible survival story.
The whole narration is very good, but can we just take a moment to appreciate the amazing voice acting at 14:33 which really brings the drama to life? 😉😇
This is one of the best stories of mountaineering I have ever heard! And now it’s being told by the best! Outdoor Disasters is UA-cams best channel and this a perfect example of why that is! I look forward to each and every story they cover! Keep up the good work and we will keep watching! Joe Simpsons desire to live enabled him to persevere through impossible circumstances! There is no better example of this type of desire than this story! I don’t think many of us are capable of the strength and determination it took for him to get down the mountain and give himself a chance to survive! Great job!
Hi Outdoor Disasters! Thanks for keeping up this great content! Still enjoying your great voice. And I love the background music. It’s just beautiful. And the episodes just flow like a beautiful river that you could get caught up in and possibly turned upside down and and then caught in a group of logs and then you forgot to tell anyone that you went to the river and then a boat passes by you but they didn’t see you so then you take off your outer top and you’re waving it but they’re not turning around and then you drop your water bottle and it floats away and then….
The narration on this channel is the best written and best delivered narration I've ever heard, along with a perfect voice as a narrator. This is one of the main attractions. You should show up in the credits. Superb work. You sound great. =PC=
Read Joe Simpson's book about this "Touching the Void" which was made into a movie. Joe says his knee was so full of scar tissue that he released it by getting drunk one time at a nightclub then just dropping on that leg. He said he felt the scar tissue tear as he released it. Gah!
I’ve been binging all these videos on this channel … and every time the video starts, all I can think is “this dude has a really nice voice” lol Subscribed. I’m not even an adventurous outdoors type (despite growing up in Appalachia and roaming the deer trails from dusk to dawn all along the mountain behind my house since I was little), but man do these videos and the stories fascinate me.
I'm rarely impressed however this work of perfection has impressed me. I love everything about this. Your voice, the introduction and a perfect narrative. I've always liked a good story teller. I will like and I've been subscribed for quite some time. Keep up the good work.
I think I'll show my math students this video. Teens say that can't do math. Joe shifted his mindset. Scaffolded his planning. And completed one operation at a time. Yes students, you can learn math. His problem solving survival was geometry and algebra.
We all have mountains to climb, in this story the decision to cut or not I am sure was not done in haste. Luck was on both sides of these two people for they both survived. First the determination of making it down the mountain and second determined to climb out of a crevasse. Many would condemn Simon for cutting the rope, but if he felt his partner died, he needed to survive. Fate had other plans Simon and Hawkins stayed the night and Joe came down and was rescued by both of them. Everything happens for a reason, like the narrator telling this story. There is a reason you tell the stories that you do. It is not to pass judgement of the players it is to tell what had happened; these two men made a choice and, in the end, survived because of their will to live. If people have had to climb a mountain in life, would they have the will to survive. Life in itself is a mountain with valleys and peaks and yes, crevasses, yet can we as humans climb out of this. Many do not they stay in the abyss, and many do to become productive in society. Even though there are others who condemn them for what they have done. The will to change and survive is proof of the fighting spirit of self-determination that is alive in all of us. The choices we make may determine the outcome.
The Amazing part in this story is the true will to survive, its not concievable to me how a person can have such willpower '& belief in life the one can persevere on with extensive injuries
I cant imagine the agony of the choice to cut that rope. How pissed would you be youve just dragged yourself out of a cravase and all your clothes have been burnt
A remarkable story. With respect, I'll never understand why,& never will, that people want to put themselves in these predicaments.I just don't get it.🤔

Thats sucks. Thank you for your great work! Kinda miss the old style narration, but no denying this sounds better.

I read (and own) Joe Simpson’s book Touching the Void. It is almost unbearably gripping.

3 separate stories. A money earner... in my opinion
“He’s still alive and he’s got my knife, good job, mate”
"My crampons exerted
maximum force."
- That's what my wife has
said on many occasions.
She's a climber.
I've found a way not to fall into crevasses: Never going into an environment where crevasses exist. 😋
You and me both!
Do t come to Arizona then. A few years ago we had a sinkhole just "open up" under one of our state highways.
Crevasses just "appear" here.

I cant imagine the agony of the choice to cut that rope.

I would've been so pissed lol. I also think about what if Simon told a lie to make him look better, who awkward that encounter would've been.
@@outdoordisasters yeah that would have been very awkward, first question would have been "I thought you said he was dead?"
Read "Touching the Void" by Simpson to really understand this ordeal.
The movie is good, but the book, Touching the Void by Simpson, is better.
And his tibia went through his knee and............
I have a weak stomach.....😳

Thanks for the heads up.
The only thing that makes me sad is this is once I finish this one, I have no more unwatched videos on this channel
Had he not cut the rope he would have fallen farther than his friend on the rope fell. So it’s likely they would not both have survived.
If your channel was a crevasse, I’d happily jump right in. 😂 thanks for the great videos!
Haha best comment ever! Thank you!

Crevasse sharks!
My girlfriend has a very large crevasse. 😬
