    Your videos are amazing, bro! It's people like you that make South Africa worth living in. We tend to forget what we have right on our doorstep.. ungrateful would be a better word. Thanks for sharing your amazing experiences. I've learned so much watching only a few videos. I just subscribed recently to your channel. Looking forward to watching the rest of your adventures.

    I was just in the same predicament a month ago having to choose between a L200, Hilux, Navara, Dmax, Amarok and Ranger. For me, my budget only allowed for max 10k€ and I went with a 02 Hilux. Why? Reliability. The hilux may not be the absolute best performer in every situation, but it is a solid all arounder and is not the worst in any situation either. And in Finland, hiluxes go to the shop way less vs the competition and you can find people who know how to work on them way easier than other brands. Also one more advantage to the hilux is the insane resale value. If I take good care of the car, I can probably sell it in 2-5 years and only lose about 2k vs what I payd for it. Other brands, if they would last as long, I would probably only get about 2-3k for them.
    Gratz on getting married and I immediately see one thing you need: a snorkle.

    Well. In South Africa ford did sell f250s but from 2003 until 2007 i think. Ford customer services suck for some reason. They don't have the best management and customer service plus the auto transmission isn't that great.
    I would consider the land cruiser even though aftermarket modifications are VERY expensive especially if you want a canopy. The new Dmax is great, isuzu makes insane DIESEL ENGINES! Fuel economy of the diesel is great and the torque is very usable especially on the 4 cylinder midsize trucks plus they last longer because they're understressed.
    I'd definitely buy a manual if you want something indestructible. Obviously autos have come a long way and are becoming more and more reliable depending on the brand, however the manual will be cheaper to maintain and fix whenever problems occur, most of the time the issues with manual vehicles are usually with the clutch. Love the fact that you have a manual, yea cost of them is hella cheaper.
    Great vehicle. Great video. Would have loved for you to have a land cruiser 79 but you're right comfort of these midsize 4 cylinder trucks are getting better and better even with a manual transmission.

Toyota Tundra is most likely my next truck to be fair. So I get it 💯 You go boy’0! Happy for you all! You worked hard for it, you deserve it. Thanks for what you do for our community and the getaways in these trying times. God bless. Diesel is readily available in many off road application vehicles in the United States (MId,Full,HD sized trucks, Vans, and SUV's -Ford, Jeep, GM, Mercedez, RAM) - I hate to hear youve had a bad experience with Ford in Africa. The presence and support in the area must be limited. Ive been a lifetime Ford customer and have had great service out of Ford pickups. I would have loved to been able to get a Ranger during those years 2011 to 2017. Long time fan. Keep making videos

    Have to disagree about the Ranger had one from new 2004 thunder 120,000 miles still on standard clutch, exhaust etc, made in Tailand its a Mazda in disguise cant fault it mate. I think the new range of Rangers is another story, good show by the way UK!

    You have probably done the research on roof racks and weight you can carry on your roof but Ronny Dhal has done a VERY GOOD video about roof racks and loading on his Hilux which is very helpful. He had to change his roof rack because he did not KNOW about On and OFF road loadings WEIGHTS.

    • @mattdubber
      @mattdubber  3 роки тому +1

      Yup seen it, I think Frontrunner did their research with this because their rack + tent come to a few kgs under max load! So its perfect. Rear rack carries everything else.

    If you want a desil in Minnesota be prepared to pay 10g (if you're lucky) for a rusted out truck that wouldn't be legal in half of our country. And if you want unreliable Ford Power Strokes make great lawn orderments even the "good years".

    Kinda wish I had seen this before buying us a 2023 Hilux Smartcab 2.4L. Nothing wrong with the truck but maybe I should have gone with a 4x4 2.8L. But we’re in Thailand and doubt we’ll do much Offroad work there. 97 Land Cruiser in the US and I guess I was just thinking all my Offroad fun will be there.

  • @dmg4415

    Chains are good year round, always chains when You are really of road, or if the dirt roads a watered down. Best way is to have some quick attachment. If You have driven a 3 axis 6wd 10 ton truck with a 10 ton howitzer attached, without chains really of road and then with chains, it is like having to hunt with a 10 joule .177 air gun or a full power FX. It could be done but You will probably get bogged down with shooting mice on 10 yard max, or with chains some good big bird on 100 yards.

    Ford 🤮. You made a great choice there with the Toyota 👏. I’ve got an Isuzu Trooper that’s old but good for road and off road 😉. I would definitely get a D-Max, can’t go wrong with Japanese 👍. I can’t wait to see what the cyber truck is like on and off road as I think that would be unbeatable for both, just as long as you can charge it 🤔🤷‍♂️. It’ll be very quiet too unlike my Trooper for pest control 🤦‍♂️🙉. Great video series starting here 👏👍

    Older D4D was proper stuff. This new GD nonsense doesn't last.
    2x 2.4 Auto's already have gearbox failures and one of our 2.8 is already back already with problems.
    We are actually changing our fleet from he new Hilux to Isuzu and Ford. New Hilux is absolutely trash when working hard.
    Don't get a 10 Speed ford. the 3.2 are allot better. 10 Speed still plenty issues as well.

    Your ranger was more than 12 years old. Now to compare that with the new ranger isn't really fair. I have the new thunder Ranger with the 10 speed and you have no idea what you talking about. Just lost my respect for brand bashing Ford like that...

    • @mattdubber
      @mattdubber  3 роки тому

      Most people would say the older rangers were better, or at least the 3.2 6-speed... the 10 speed is known to have problems with the transmission overheating and failing, it needs an aftermarket oil cooler to last as long as the 6-speed. I didn’t expect my old Ranger to be bulletproof, but I did expect better support from Ford, who bypassed my fusebox and almost caused a fire (who does that!) and told me they couldn’t get spares for me.
