Great video, I just picked up a crf rally250. Came with ohlins suspension, Delkavic slip, and 550 tune which is great, for $5500, with 15000km on it. It’s my first proper bike. After watching your vid I’ll be getting the mt21 front tire, skid plate (will have to do a fairing trim), and gear selector indicator.
That is a beautiful 250L my man 😍 I have one as well, full suspension, exhaust, sprockets etc and I love these bikes. I'm not sure if I'll ever sell it for something else as I think I'll always want something this reliable in the stable. Btw I think you'll love a 13-45 combo offroad if you decide to go that route. I keep a 45t on the rear and when I ride on the road I'll put the 14t up front, then slap in the 13t for the offroad days.
@@richardunderwood950 Thanks mate, appreciate it. I'm in exactly the same boat, I had looked at a 2T 250 but the 250L is so hassle free it's too hard to go away from😅 That's a great idea with the sprockets, hadn't thought of doing that. Do you run extra links in your chain for the bigger rear sprocket? I'll just have to make up an extension bracket for my chain guide, I'd get rid of it but the Zeta one wasn't cheap😅
@@bradspeed69 oh dang I thought you could go up to a 45 tooth on those? I’m not sure, I guess I should find out because I want one haha. I also did have to buy a new chain to fit the 45 but yeah I really like the versatility of the setup!
@@richardunderwood950 Yeh my Zeta chain guard is already on the limit with the 42 rear on it. An extension bracket shouldn't be hard to make up. How many links did you end up with on the new chain?
I've watched a bunch of your videos. I was on the fence between the 250L, 300L and a KLX 300. I've decided to just go ahead and get a newer used 250L in the best shape at the best deal I can.
@@damagephotos I don't know much about the KLX300, but I know a bit about the 300L. The engine/gearbox setup is definitely better than the 250, particularly the gear ratios. A mate of mine has a 300L he bought new, we've swapped bikes a couple times for a ride and we both agree the 250L chassis has a much better feel. Glad I was able to help your decision. Try to get a 2018 or later model, they're the best version of the 250L
Great vid. I agree suspension transforms the bike. Still running down the irc tires so direct comparison, K tech shock. I did wet trail runs after the suspension and the drive I had, even with the bald ircs at road pressure was amazung. Front fork is just a Race Tech spring. A touch stiff so I will probably just drop a little preload out of it. Biggest single difference and my bike is fully engine tuned with air box mods and exhaust. I have farkled this bike so hard in addition to these things. Crash cage, hand guards, rack, etc etc, I ride it to work almost daily too. 10K on the bike in 10 months.
@@EffequalsMA They're super capable bikes, alot of fun. How does yours go with the tune? A mate of mine has opened up his airbox with holes, has a full delkovic system and an EJK. He's had a few heat shut downs engine we've been out on rides. We drag raced our bikes one day to see the difference, he got me on the start by about 2 metres, but they held with each other after that. I thought it would have made more difference.
@@bradspeed69 Mine's actually a 300L but, the whole gang is great! I just bored the plate out of the stock spark arrestor so, it's now a straight through pipe in addition to the around the block paths. Mine will surprisingly just touch 90 mph in deep tuck on a long straight, with 13 tooth up front and a corrected speedo. The 13 added both acceleration and top speed bc the bike could not pull sixth at all with stock gearing.
@@EffequalsMA Yeh that's pretty quick for a 300, I cut the spark arrestor from my daughter's 110 and it made a big difference too. They seem to have a faster top speed the 300's. I wonder if the gearing is different
@@bradspeed69 chainring gearing on the 300 is the same as the 250, not sure on internal gearing but, the overdrive is very deep stock and first is a real mud churner.
@EffequalsMA The gearbox ratios must be different. Another mate of mine has a 300L, he's running 13t/50t on his and still beats me for top speed. I'm doubtful 37cc extra capacity makes that much difference. Would be interested to know for sure
I have my 2013 CRF250L with upgrades ejk, megabomb FMF exhaust, acerbes plastic fuel tank, K&N air filter, YSS adjustable rear shocks, and widend intake rubber pipe, and other upgrades until now I'm very satisfied of the performance with only oil change, replacement of worn out tires and I don't know why owners of the later version of CRF300L wants to replace their slipper clutch back to the conventional clutch of the CRF250L
@@jamesluisitobinoya4856 Sounds like a great setup on yours👌🏼 I've not heard about the dislike for the slipper clutch on the 300's. Friend of mine has one, I've ridden it a couple times. The gear ratios are alot better on the 300, more low and and more up top. As for the slipper clutch, for trail riding I'd think a conventional clutch would be more advantageous particularly for steep hill descents. I usually flick mine into 2nd and using engine braking as much as possible to avoid lockups, particularly on shaily/rocky hills. A slipper clutch is really more for road riding, that's my understanding anyway.
@bradspeed69 I agree you sir the slipper clutch is very friendly on highways, the complain of dirt riders on highly technical terrains the slipper clutch becomes a sliding clutch.
