    78 yr old male. Had a complete Rotator Cuff Tear, verified by MRI with suggested surgery after suggested exercises did no good. I use wall handles and try to hang 40 sec twice a day. Primary issue with torn rotator cuff tear is sleeping at night. This allows me to sleep with virtually no pain. Amazing results!

    I first found this channel while searching for relief after two years of suffering with severe pain in my left shoulder. A lifetime of surfing and golf had taken its toll. Hanging eliminated the pain that kept me awake at night and made simple things like reaching my arm out of the car window to pay a toll feel like I had been stabbed in the shoulder with an ice pick. I came across your original hanging video. That video completely turned it around for me. At first the shoulder was so bad I could only support about 20% of my body weight while hanging. From day one of beginning to hang I noticed improvement. Over the course of 2 months of hanging a couple of times a day I got to where I could pick my feet off of the floor and hang for 30 seconds. The results for me were astonishing. Then over the course of the next six months I was able to get up to ten pull ups worked in with the hanging. I still hang as part of my routine or at any hint of shoulder tightness.

      Hi! I tried to start this but felt my shoulder getting inflamed and more sore - I wasn't hanging fully on it as I'm weak and heavy! But was worried it was making things worse - how rapid was rapid, and did it hurt more all the time for a bit, or just while you were doing the activity? I'm not sure if it's a good thing to push through or not.

    • @stevemcbride
      @stevemcbride 2 роки тому +7

      @@sleepyjoness I started gradually, just putting my hands on the bar and squatting down to stretch them a little, and, yes, that hurt. I went gradually, pushing it a bit more each day, three times a day. It did not make the shoulder more painful between sessions. As I remember, it was at least three weeks before I could put full weight on my arms, and only briefly. I am thin and was in decent shape prior to injuring the shoulder. It was a few months before my shoulder was mostly normal. Normal with full range of motion was probably six months.

    I swear by it. Has done wonders for me. I do a 60 second hang first thing in the morning and last thing at night....will do it once or twice throughout the day if the opportunity presents itself. I'm 61 years old (6'2"/200bs) and had rotator cliff issues from years of playing competitive baseball. Had to give it up because I couldn't throw anymore but today I can throw like I did 30-35 years ago. Also does wonders for spinal decompression........my agility and range of motion is greatly improved.

    Have had surgery on both shoulders years ago due to skiing injuries. Been playing handball for 40 years now. Had more shoulder surgeries for impingement. Couldn’t get my right hand over my head. Started hanging about 6-7 years ago after an Ortho surgeon recommended a total shoulder replacement. Totally pain free and have achieved total and permanent pain relief and increased flexibility. It is the easiest thing to do. Hang for 30 seconds a couple of times a week is all you need. 71 and still playing handball and tennis. It’s great for core strengthening also.

    I had shoulder impingement; couldn't raise arm in the air or move arm in a throwing motion. Doing dead hangs where you hang on a bar helped tremendously.
    Be warned that when you're just starting to rehab the injured shoulder that you will experience a lot of pain when first hanging. I started out slowly, grabbing the bar, and then gradually pulling on the bar with the injured shoulder. Eventually, after straightening the injured shoulder, I was able to hang from the injured arm. Was also able to regain throwing motion.
    Still working on reaching back with injured arm, but can at least raise my arm in the air without pain.

    Badly broke my humerus and elbow. Hanging has changed the course of my therapy. I found this book about 1-1/2 months into therapy. My therapist thought I might have developed frozen shoulder after the surgery. Started hanging over that weekend, just about 10 times throughout the 2 days. When I went in that Monday and he amazed at the improvement. Count both of us as sold. I’m up to hanging in ten minutes segment of 30 seconds on and off. My therapist also suggested switching up the angle of the hang. I also use a pseudo-booyah stick my husband made for me. Thanks guys. I can see why you are famous.

    I got an injury playing basketball when i was tripped from behind. I essentially flipped in the air and landed straight on my elbow, transmitting the jolt straight into my shoulder. What damage this caused I can't be sure as I'm not a doctor, however it hurt for months especially when sleeping. I bought a pull up bar and started hanging and doing pull ups holding the pull up at the top for 10-15 seconds. Within 4-5 months all pain was gone. I can feel the increased strength in my shoulder muscles as well as the soft tissue ie the cartilage and tendons and such.
    I never read this book you speak of , I just knew from my experience that in most cases the best way to get over an injury is to build the area back up naturally.
    Great channel you guys have and a great resource for healing and maintenance. So many of your examples not so long ago were thought to require invasive surgeries etc. Now we know better. If you put the work in and give your body a chance in many cases it can heal itself. Thanks guys! Keep it up.

I've been to my doctor and they tried physical therapy on me I've been to massage therapy which helped some but would only last for a few days I've been to acupuncture therapy and done several different things but I tried the hanging solution and I've experienced wonderful and excellent results. It's a beautiful thing to find something so simple can fix such an ongoing nagging problem. I don't have that much hand grip strength so I had to hang for just a few seconds at a time in the beginning but even that was helpful. I'm building up my hand strength now so that I can hang longer and the benefits are awesome

One end I hooked on to the handle, the other when on top of the door. When the door closes, the knot stays on the other side of the door, and one is able to put one's entire weight on the handle. It works well. Now remains to be seen whether I can improve my shoulder impingement. It's been less than a week and I can barely endure it for 5 seconds!

Once I got used to the rush of flow to my head and learned to relax, the effect on my back was noticeable. For added traction I would sometimes pick up a 20kg plate from the floor and hold it. Have shoulder impingement - problem came out of nowhere. Think it was from sitting with poor posture while from working from home. Was worried because I could not lift my arm level with my shoulder or finish a throwing motion. Hanging helped out significantly...even after a couple days. Got the freedom of my shoulder movement back with little/no pain. Now practicing good posture and strength exercises and my shoulder is back to normal. Still hanging every gym session for all of the benefits for the shoulder and spine 😁

      How did you get into a hanging position if you couldnt raise your arm vertically? I cant get my arm above horizontal right now. So painful, I could never get it vertically to be able to hang.

    • @IntelExcel
      @IntelExcel 2 роки тому

      @@pixelkat1819 Before hanging, I worked on basic stretches and strength training recommended by Bob and Brad for 2-3 weeks (link below). Focus was on squeezing shoulder blades together and stretching my pec muscles.
      Soon as I got more range of motion, I used a broom and did a stretch called the "Chicken Wing"...that helped me increase my range so I could lift my arms up with slight discomfort.
      Then started hanging...gradually increasing weight. I started 5 reps for 15 seconds with my feet on the floor...started noticing results in 2 days. Then increased my time to 30 seconds with feet on the floor, gradually increasing the pressure without feeling any sharp pains. Then lifted my feet, bending knees/feet to my butt. Then, hanging with my knees in front/tucked to chest made a huge difference. Each hanging session, i also tried changing the width of my arms on the bar (hands closer together vs. farther apart)
      That was my specific situation. Hope there are some kernels of information that'll help you. Best of luck!

    Great tips. Question (for anyone please): What is the suspected issue if I feel it with my hands in front, praying position n(thumbs around eye level), then I open up my elbows (out) like wings. I feel it in the front inside part of the shoulder. I had been doing wide pull ups and lat pull downs before it happened. 2 out of 10 pain but nagging over a month (of taking it very easy.)
    Will the hanging technique help the shoulder?
    I just hung a pull up bar. What I learned is that you never want to just go into the stud. You want to cut a 2x8 that spans three studs across. Then, using 4" lag bolts, go directly into the 2x8. The 2x8 is attached very securely to the studs using multiple lag screws. It's much more solid and far safer this way. You also then do not damage the drywall. This also puts you slightly off the drywall. It's easy to do, and winning all around.

It was weird because I had it on each shoulder in the span of a year in a half (during covid-19 mostly ) and I did my research trying to figure out how I received the impingement. I don't swim and do other things consistently that would cause shoulder impingement. The only thing I can recall feeling some sort of tingle to my shoulder is when I used to take off my shirts, I have to put my arms consistently over my head. My solution to this was buying workout shirts without sleeves or business casual button shirts. For some reason my shoulders got agitated when trying to pull off the shirt over my head.
      I recall the suffering ( impingement) lasting 3-4 months. I was taking extra strength Tylenol before going to bed and simply limiting my motion . Also I was resting a lot! . Take hot showers and let the water hit your shoulder. Get tiger balm. I was a wreck!
      I recall watching all these UA-cam channels on how to heal impingement.

      Since a labrum acts a suction cup to keep the humeral head in place, a tear in the labrum deprives it of the suctioning ability, causing the humeral head to be very unstable since nothing is really holding it in place. Hanging puts more stress on the already unstable shoulder by pulling down on it, giving a feeling of a dislocation sort of. Therefore hanging is not recommended for SLAP tears.

    I have a tiny rotator cuff tear in my left shoulder, caused by shoulder impingement. Additionally, my spine in the T3-T6 area feels like it's always getting pulled to the left. Hanging doesn't hurt, per se, and it does help my back relax, which is a major plus, but after several days of hanging, my left shoulder is so freaking sore. Is that normal?
