    As in idiot who hasn't understood the family tree/political panels until now, thank you! Very easy to understand, and I might have a tiny shot at doing well in that aspect of the game.

    When I have a king or general with loads of negative traits I usually get them killed in a battle. It's far cheaper than the other options and who doesn't what to die heroically in battle.

    Adding an arranged marriage with other factions greatly increases the odds of a successful negotiation. It’s very useful when trying to secure a vassal.

    diminish popularity is good because the out-of-favor trait and more severe versions of it cause them to lose influence per turn. it's more of a long-term investment while assassination is an immediate return.

    I think the difference in percentages is due to some characters traits. So for example, the notification says 68% control or whatever but your political panel says 70%... so, your notification tells you your total base amount and the political panel reflects the base amount plus the trait bonus.

  • @C0bbs

    Good guide, pleased to see you confused at the end, for I have also been using some of the political buttons and whatever the result it doesn't seem to match up or always have the effect upon my dominion like it should do.
    Control seems to work as is intended.
    Would appear that it still needs some work doing to it.

  • @jacobshtelmakher3142
    @jacobshtelmakher3142 9 років тому +8

    I suspect the "notification" for 86% dominion is from the previous turn before your all characters gain/lose influence on the start of the current turn. So, after you carried out the action you got the message summarizing situation at that point, but characters gained influence after the msg.
    I am curious if control has any other effect than being a tool to move the power bar around. Example: does high control have any events associated with it? Low control? Does control have any effect on opposition succeeding in opposing a candidate for a post? Success chance for a political action?

    • @Zerkovich
      @Zerkovich  9 років тому +2

      Yeah I did wonder that. I think I may have tested that when I made the vid but I can't remember. Either way, why would I care about my PAST Dominion numbers and such, on a PRESENT turn notification? Surely you would rather see how it has affected your overall Power/Dominion on the present turn and be shown what the numbers are now. If that makes sense.
      Those are some good questions. I may try and look into that at some point. Or if anyone else beats me to it, lemme know!

    • @jacobshtelmakher3142
      @jacobshtelmakher3142 9 років тому

      ZerkovichVsThePeople Anecdotally, it seems low control kills my chances to find local brides + the failed attempts result in even lower control... Might be a coincidence.
      As to that reporting of past/present dominion numbers: might be an oversight. There seems to be scripted sequence of carrying out actions. For example: if, on the same turn, you schedule to destroy buildings in a settlement and abandon the settlement, on the next turn you'll see income from building destruction + see the settlement abandoned. So, buildings get destroyed first, then the settlement gets abandoned.
      So, I suspect, in the case of political actions and dominion reports: actions are carried out at the end of the previous turns and report gives you the resulting situation. Then, probably, all influence gains for statesmen and wives are calculated afterwards.

    • @Zerkovich
      @Zerkovich  9 років тому +1

      Jacob Shtelmakher Ya, overall it must do something, there can't be no consequence for having say 5% control. Other than affecting the Power Bar. I'll be keeping an eye out for that now.
      It's no big deal on the possible dodgy numbers. Certainly doesn't ruin any aspect of the game if it is a bug. Just something I noticed.

    you can kill off characters with high influence from other political/tribal faction by creating a navy with them and sending them into a loosing sea battle, this will increase the balance of power more in your favour.

    One of my sons is showing up on my family tree under his fathers line, his mother remarried and so the existing son is still in my tree however he is also showing on the other nobles list, His stepfather is only showing on the family tree but the son is showing on both and ever since this happened my dominion has taken a dive from 80% down to 50% what happens if it keeps dropping?
    Also a strange thing happened with my first born son on the tree, he immediately rebelled, and there was nothing i could do about it, he immediately started a separatist army as soon as he came of age, and his father and grandfather the (Faction Leader) had to kill him in battle. Really didn't feel right, as i was setting it up so he would be the next heir as the King was getting very old, instead i now have the second brother as heir and he is not very good as he does not generate any influence so he just sits there until i can build an army for him to control and hopefully improve his influence.

    This shit drives me crazy I'm playing as the byzantine empire and everything's going great were making big time bucks and all the sudden like 8 yes 8 general revolted but I couldn't do anything to keep there loyalty from waning . Consider though that my emperor arcadius augustus and his brother were both killed in the battle of ctesiphon now there's a regent for his children on the throne while the new emperor comes of age how the hell do i gain political influence to spend and how do i get out of pitiful on te power bar

    • @Zerkovich
      @Zerkovich  9 років тому +1

      Hard times my friend! Influence is gained by fighting battles, constructing new buildings, or through passive traits. Or if you make your main family members Governors, they rack up a fair amount of influence just for being there. Try and get all your men good wives too, they can have an influence bonus to that General. You'll need influence to make your Dominion bar go up and that'll help get your out of Pitiful. Increase your Control too by doing Political actions like 'Gather Support'.

    The politics system ruined it for me. Sure anyone can say that I just don't understand it or that I have to "learn 2 play noob", but no. I just plain don't like it. It feels unnecessary in a total war title. The thing I liked in the Total War series was its simplicity in the matters of the state, I could focus on building up my cities, my army, and simple diplomacy and trade. Now it just looks like a failed attempt at copying Crusader Kings II. The battles are great, but the politics system and the confusing UI just turns me away from the game.

    • @Zerkovich
      @Zerkovich  8 років тому +7

      Have you tried Warhammer? Very simple Politics. I get what you mean, I'm not a HUGE fan of it. But I think it is necessary. They just need to do a better job of explaining it all in game I think.

      It was an unwanted "mini game". Though once perfected it could become useful. It is correct that the in game instructions could have been much better. The UI was also too clunky and not very user friendly either, which certainly added to frustrations.
      Not sure why CA are so oblivious with their detail.

    • @GODOBER
      @GODOBER 5 років тому +1

      Agreed. Not that it is bad, but they could have added something much better instead. As an example more control over a settlement, maybe a simple sandbox element to building settlements with a bird's eye view of the actual settlement, or more connection between infrastructure and technology and army quality, like armor quality and sword quality. Historically not everyone could afford chainmail or anything better than simple cloth (talking about the period of Attila). There should be more important resource nodes. Resources must heavily influence the way of development of a country. If for example you have a lot of tin, iron and other metals, your armor and weapon are significantly better, or perhaps you don't want to improve your gear that much and instead want to sell that stuff to an ally. Basically they could have done much better things.
