As in idiot who hasn't understood the family tree/political panels until now, thank you! Very easy to understand, and I might have a tiny shot at doing well in that aspect of the game.
When I have a king or general with loads of negative traits I usually get them killed in a battle. It's far cheaper than the other options and who doesn't what to die heroically in battle.
Adding an arranged marriage with other factions greatly increases the odds of a successful negotiation. It’s very useful when trying to secure a vassal.
That was really good to watch. Full of detail, well researched and most importantly very enjoyable to listen you. Lol. Cheers for that. Now I shall wait pationelty for the dam thing to finish doloading.
diminish popularity is good because the out-of-favor trait and more severe versions of it cause them to lose influence per turn. it's more of a long-term investment while assassination is an immediate return.
38Gaucho Well you clearly don't have any clue about them nor modern one. Politics has always been balanced power struggles. Too much power and things will fuck up.
38Gaucho Again that is because you don't know. Okay let's go into details and solve this problem for you since you clearly can't do it yourself. Name what in this system doesn't make sense.
I think the difference in percentages is due to some characters traits. So for example, the notification says 68% control or whatever but your political panel says 70%... so, your notification tells you your total base amount and the political panel reflects the base amount plus the trait bonus.
Good guide, pleased to see you confused at the end, for I have also been using some of the political buttons and whatever the result it doesn't seem to match up or always have the effect upon my dominion like it should do. Control seems to work as is intended. Would appear that it still needs some work doing to it.
I suspect the "notification" for 86% dominion is from the previous turn before your all characters gain/lose influence on the start of the current turn. So, after you carried out the action you got the message summarizing situation at that point, but characters gained influence after the msg. I am curious if control has any other effect than being a tool to move the power bar around. Example: does high control have any events associated with it? Low control? Does control have any effect on opposition succeeding in opposing a candidate for a post? Success chance for a political action?
Yeah I did wonder that. I think I may have tested that when I made the vid but I can't remember. Either way, why would I care about my PAST Dominion numbers and such, on a PRESENT turn notification? Surely you would rather see how it has affected your overall Power/Dominion on the present turn and be shown what the numbers are now. If that makes sense. Those are some good questions. I may try and look into that at some point. Or if anyone else beats me to it, lemme know!
ZerkovichVsThePeople Anecdotally, it seems low control kills my chances to find local brides + the failed attempts result in even lower control... Might be a coincidence. As to that reporting of past/present dominion numbers: might be an oversight. There seems to be scripted sequence of carrying out actions. For example: if, on the same turn, you schedule to destroy buildings in a settlement and abandon the settlement, on the next turn you'll see income from building destruction + see the settlement abandoned. So, buildings get destroyed first, then the settlement gets abandoned. So, I suspect, in the case of political actions and dominion reports: actions are carried out at the end of the previous turns and report gives you the resulting situation. Then, probably, all influence gains for statesmen and wives are calculated afterwards.
Jacob Shtelmakher Ya, overall it must do something, there can't be no consequence for having say 5% control. Other than affecting the Power Bar. I'll be keeping an eye out for that now. It's no big deal on the possible dodgy numbers. Certainly doesn't ruin any aspect of the game if it is a bug. Just something I noticed.
you can kill off characters with high influence from other political/tribal faction by creating a navy with them and sending them into a loosing sea battle, this will increase the balance of power more in your favour.
One of my sons is showing up on my family tree under his fathers line, his mother remarried and so the existing son is still in my tree however he is also showing on the other nobles list, His stepfather is only showing on the family tree but the son is showing on both and ever since this happened my dominion has taken a dive from 80% down to 50% what happens if it keeps dropping? Also a strange thing happened with my first born son on the tree, he immediately rebelled, and there was nothing i could do about it, he immediately started a separatist army as soon as he came of age, and his father and grandfather the (Faction Leader) had to kill him in battle. Really didn't feel right, as i was setting it up so he would be the next heir as the King was getting very old, instead i now have the second brother as heir and he is not very good as he does not generate any influence so he just sits there until i can build an army for him to control and hopefully improve his influence.
Funny thing: the regent, Aelia Eudoxia, married a governor after the Emperor died. Now, even though the regency has ended, the family tree doesn't show any rulers.
For me this was the best politics system in total war, where there any other games that had similar systems? Rome 2 seems a underbaked version of this.
Bah, I sub'd after watching this video upon release. I hold the first comment ever made, which essentially makes me responsible for all of Zerkovich's success thereafter! ;)
This shit drives me crazy I'm playing as the byzantine empire and everything's going great were making big time bucks and all the sudden like 8 yes 8 general revolted but I couldn't do anything to keep there loyalty from waning . Consider though that my emperor arcadius augustus and his brother were both killed in the battle of ctesiphon now there's a regent for his children on the throne while the new emperor comes of age how the hell do i gain political influence to spend and how do i get out of pitiful on te power bar
Hard times my friend! Influence is gained by fighting battles, constructing new buildings, or through passive traits. Or if you make your main family members Governors, they rack up a fair amount of influence just for being there. Try and get all your men good wives too, they can have an influence bonus to that General. You'll need influence to make your Dominion bar go up and that'll help get your out of Pitiful. Increase your Control too by doing Political actions like 'Gather Support'.
The politics system ruined it for me. Sure anyone can say that I just don't understand it or that I have to "learn 2 play noob", but no. I just plain don't like it. It feels unnecessary in a total war title. The thing I liked in the Total War series was its simplicity in the matters of the state, I could focus on building up my cities, my army, and simple diplomacy and trade. Now it just looks like a failed attempt at copying Crusader Kings II. The battles are great, but the politics system and the confusing UI just turns me away from the game.
Have you tried Warhammer? Very simple Politics. I get what you mean, I'm not a HUGE fan of it. But I think it is necessary. They just need to do a better job of explaining it all in game I think.
It was an unwanted "mini game". Though once perfected it could become useful. It is correct that the in game instructions could have been much better. The UI was also too clunky and not very user friendly either, which certainly added to frustrations. Not sure why CA are so oblivious with their detail.
Agreed. Not that it is bad, but they could have added something much better instead. As an example more control over a settlement, maybe a simple sandbox element to building settlements with a bird's eye view of the actual settlement, or more connection between infrastructure and technology and army quality, like armor quality and sword quality. Historically not everyone could afford chainmail or anything better than simple cloth (talking about the period of Attila). There should be more important resource nodes. Resources must heavily influence the way of development of a country. If for example you have a lot of tin, iron and other metals, your armor and weapon are significantly better, or perhaps you don't want to improve your gear that much and instead want to sell that stuff to an ally. Basically they could have done much better things.
As in idiot who hasn't understood the family tree/political panels until now, thank you! Very easy to understand, and I might have a tiny shot at doing well in that aspect of the game.
You're welcome. It's all pretty simple when you know how!
take time bro, it's fun to play some game of throne here haha
Did you know that Dominion counts the influence of the deceased people in the family tree?
Thanks even now after 7 years this seems to be worthwhile watching!
When I have a king or general with loads of negative traits I usually get them killed in a battle. It's far cheaper than the other options and who doesn't what to die heroically in battle.
Yeah well, you need to have an empty stack for that, I usually have all stacks full
@@Madi_Ernar or u can simply retreat your army and send him to death
Adding an arranged marriage with other factions greatly increases the odds of a successful negotiation. It’s very useful when trying to secure a vassal.
Thank you for knowing how to explain things and having common sense about what you choose to explain. Completely helped! 👍
That was really good to watch. Full of detail, well researched and most importantly very enjoyable to listen you. Lol. Cheers for that. Now I shall wait pationelty for the dam thing to finish doloading.
Haha, well I hope it's worth the wait!
And thanks man :D
Nice guide and helpful! It takes some time to understand, but it's a pretty good feature to the game
6:46 "The point of the wives is to cookallthediner, I MEAN uuuh to keep your general traits..."
I paused on that one for quite a while.
hahah cook the dinner.
XD
Wonderfully concise explanation. Thank you.
diminish popularity is good because the out-of-favor trait and more severe versions of it cause them to lose influence per turn. it's more of a long-term investment while assassination is an immediate return.
This playlist is what I've been looking for since the game came out :P
Why didn't they just design a politics system that makes some kind of sense to a normal human mind?
+38Gaucho But this does make sense for those who actually know historical politics.
No.
38Gaucho Well you clearly don't have any clue about them nor modern one. Politics has always been balanced power struggles. Too much power and things will fuck up.
Tespri I know a lot about politics, both historical and modern. I'm saying this political system doesn't make sense as a game.
38Gaucho Again that is because you don't know. Okay let's go into details and solve this problem for you since you clearly can't do it yourself.

Thank you Squire. Glad I'm not the only one confused by strange Attila math!
I'm exactly the same! I always find that dominion never updates itself or just doesn't work.
Art Brain is my other Gmail account... look how you've grown!
"And this is North Korea." _Instant sub! You have a gift for explaining, and make it entertaining._ 👍
After you explained what the power bar is, I said aloud "so how do you control the power bar then?", to which you immediately said 01:30
Nah bruh that cook all the dinner part is on point, these men are out here conquering the world, they ain't got time for bs.
I feel like it's better to blindly click things on the politics windows. You'll most likely keep it at 50% on everything.

Great vid man! Really helped me get my head around it!

I think a better title would have been internal politics as I thought this had more to do with diplomacy.
+Kyle Divan *From the title not the actual content.

then job of your wife is to cook you a dinner ..... ahhh to give your general traits XD
Thanks a bunch for a great round-up of politics.
+Андрей Давыдов пожалуйста!
Your spot on about the dominion and power bugs. It really annoys me that the numbers don't add up.
Thanks so much!!This video makes me clear of polistic system.
Funny thing: the regent, Aelia Eudoxia, married a governor after the Emperor died. Now, even though the regency has ended, the family tree doesn't show any rulers.
6:46 😂😂😂
Thanks man, this really helped!
Subbed keep up the good work
6:47 is one of the best parts :D
BEST GUIDE BY FAR !
why assassinate your king? Just send him into battle! That's how I get rid of undesirables in my kingdom ;)
"The point of wives is to cook all the din- I mean uh, to give your general traits" HAHAHAHA
Awesome video, thanks! :D
Very helpful m8, thanks!
For me this was the best politics system in total war, where there any other games that had similar systems? Rome 2 seems a underbaked version of this.
I loved your comparison with North Korea. Liked!
Actually the candidates influence has no impact on Dominion, it’s just your family vs other nobles.
Thanks for sharing. That's useful.
I'm playing the jutes to love the vikings lol
How can you be so awesome!!!!
TO COOK WITH THE DINNER :P
Love that North Korea reference 😂
Cook up the dinner lmaoo
I don't understand why they had to make it so complicated, but the last total war I bought was medieval 2... lol
What's that gray-outed tab next to Offices and Governors?
Great!
6:47 HAHAHAHAHAHA
Can some1 tell me do I need to complete every requirement for divine triumph to score it???
Subbed
**fist bump**

w vid
how do i control the loyalty of the other nobles
Make sure your ruler is more influential than them, keep them in the field stay in the middle of the power bar
Politics.... In a tribe of barbarians.... Pretty sure this is not how shit went down.
+Flyingdutchy33 It is, how do you think they assigned kings, heirs to the thrones, leaders, military, economics, funds.
Really.... You have been watching too much Game of Thrones... Try a history book for a change.
i found funny the option of buying wifes from other factions, or selling your daughters to other factions...
Classy 6:45. Was about to subscribe, changed my mind.
It was a joke. Lighten up.
How do you play as the Jutes???
Select the Jutes... as your... faction?
Lol. I Looked. I don't think there is an option for the Jutes.
