I think they are notoriously rude to 3 types of customer.
      1. stupid people like paying with credit card when they literally outlined only cash.
      2. people who are very hesitant on ordering foods at rush hour.
      3. karen that expect to have a 3 star Michelin restaurant experience.
They are super polite to pregnant woman btw
      佢居然想俾我佢嘅電話號碼? --> 佢居然想要我嘅電話號碼!? 🙏

I'm not from HK and never lived there but I am Cantonese Chinese. The place didn't seem that rude to me at all. It sounded like friendly banter, maybe flirting with you but I think more jokingly. I've been to Vietnamese restaurants here in the US where they seat you and then come over immediately and expect you to order. I don't think it's rude, they just offer a few things and expect you to know.

Many Cafes in HK are like this…speed, quality foods and share tables. Get in, eat, and get out! Not like the US where people just hang out and use the free wifi. My white gf went with me first time last year and she did not like sharing tables with strangers within a foot away from them.

This made me somehow to remember a Chinese restaurant which was in Helsinki Finland and had a little similar mentality. The owner was a Chinese woman in her late 50s who didn't talk but shouted all the time. She looked to be a good organizer and the food there was delicious. We called that restaurant as "Shout Chinese" with my co-workers :D

I'm live in Bangkok. I've been to HK about 6 times. By international hospitality standards (if there is one), I'd say this restaurant is a bit mechanical in terms of their unemotional tone, but not to the point of rude. I think restaurants in HK are in generalof similar tone if they're busy. I've been to a rude restaurant in HK on my last trip there. The waitresses were like a little bit older than teenagers, and for some reason they just don't bother to follow-up my order no matter what. My only interaction with them prior to waiting for my order is just casually ordering food from the menu just like everyone else. This restaurant is just across from the Holiday Inn in Gowloon. A trendy western food joint that gave me the most intriguing negative vibe ever simply because there were no negative interactions with anyone there that could've been considered as a catalyst for the unexplained shunning of services. Needless to say, I eventually bought my lunch elsewhere. Maybe past lives are a real thing and somehow our paths crossed under poor circumstances back then??? 😮😮😮 I 'll never really know.

    1. Sharing a table is part of the culture. HK is a small place, time is money, and real estate is money. Please do not sit there for hours with your friends during rush hour like you do in the western countries. Embrace and accustom to the culture and don't compare an apple to orange...
    2. Everyone uses an Octopus card there, no one uses a credit card? In fact, some place in Japan don't take credit cards and only pay by cash, why make it sound like it's a problem?
    3. The restaurant is a commoner's restaurant, not your high-class restaurant. So that explains why the waiter spoke to you the way he did, not formally. If he is rude to you, he probably will not be speaking to you, that's how you can tell if someone from HK is being rude to you. It is either that or curse you in bad words.
    4. The fact that he asked for your phone number is an indirect way for most guys to compliment you are pretty. He's joking and knows you won't give it to him anyway.

welcome to the realistic world of local Hong Kong restaurant! That's the way most of these restaurant operates, food is being served quickly and the bill will be placed on the table once the food has been ordered as these places don't really want the customer to sit for too long plus they will make good usage of spaces, thus a lot of times you will have to share table with someone if you are entering one of these restaurants during breakfast, lunch and dinner time.
It's good for you to know cantonese!

This type of restaurant was existed in London China Town for over 30-40 years. I am not sure whether it still exists or not, the name is called Wong Kok (旺角). When the food arrives, they just throw the plate on the table, not in front of you, you just need to go pick it up. Also, their tables are shared. When they delivered the food to you, if it happens to be wrong, he will just bluntly said NOODLE IS NDDOLE. However their foods is good and cheap.

I wouldn't considered it as 'rude' at all. There were a bit of flirting tho😮.
It's HK hustle-bustle style cafe 茶餐廳 where people just go in for a quick meal/recharge i.e. breaky, afternoon tea etc.
Hongkies loves their afternoon tea with an egg tart or a pineapple bun sandwiching a thick slab of butter. Flushing it down w a coffee or milk tea in say 15-20mins.
Wait until you see a waiter/waitress get an item/order wrong, you will definitely hear rudeness from the kitchen staff/manager/boss.....scolding are delivered aloud consisting of all swear words in one sentence/go in front of all customers😢見怪不怪 and that's 香港茶餐廳style

A similar breakfast in LA will cost you 2.5-3 times the price plus 10% sales tax and 18% tips and doesn't taste as good. So, the point is, you get what you paid for. I love this place, I had been there before, it's very affordable and tasty and I understand you can't have everything for not paying enough as long as you don't use their toilet. I'll go back again and again in a heart beat when I get the chance to visit HK next time if I want to eat something with a limited budget.
