Agree! I'm in the UHD ripping club, but it's really annoying, to wait that long for the disk to become available. I might just buy this thing to get early access to best quality (not just the Apple TV version), but it bugs me big time to think how many UHD disks I can buy for the value of the Strato V player 🙂
@@hlind1734 agree, there definitely pros and cons (really only con is price) but once I had set it up and started using it I knew I made the right decision. From making scripts, having color picture app you can download to correct picture settings, the quality and the ease of use is huge. I was never going to buy it at 9k but 4k was more justifiable. If you end up buying it and after having it for a while, you most likely will say it’s worth it. Another thing is not storing all the 4k blu rays is a bonus as well. For the blu rays you have you can get it disk to digital and most are $4.92
Welcome to kscape land. I got in on an older generation model, but it's fun to watch early movies like Deadpool 3 and Alien Romulus, as well as building a modest collection via d2d.
You probably already know this but MAX just implemented a pricing plan which requires an up charge to receive content in Atmos/4K UHD/Dolby Vision (‘Ultimate’ add-free plan)
Oh man, I had not heard of that. We currently have it bundled with Disney+ and Hulu ad free but I'll have to take a look and see if I still have Atmos/4K/Dolby. Thanks for sharing the info.
@@ts6640 Well I think you are on to something, even though the titles show the audio formats, I can confirm that I'm only getting 5.1 and looked it up and the Hulu/Disney+/Max bundle (which is what we have) does not include 4k so probably not the better audio either. Thanks for info at least now I know.
Thanks for nice video. Problem is Strato V has 1080p UI in 2024 for $4k priced player. 1080P UI looks really bad on 100”+ screens. I wish it has 2160P UI for this price player which is released in 2024.
Thanks for checking it out! I didn't realize that. I checked and the receiver and TV both show that it's receiving a 4k 60p signal from the Strato V but maybe I'm missing something.🤔
@ Strato V UI is natively in 1080p but uhd movie plays in 4k. Due UI all natively in 1080p, it upscaled in 4k, so posters icons look extremely bad on 100+ inch screens for home theaters. Funny is part that old model Strato C UI is natively in 4k it looks stunning on big screens. Special poster wall.
@@DrTechBull Ah, got it. When I do go up close to the screen I do see some artifacts around some of the images. That's too bad. Wonder if that is something that they could do via a software update?
@@RandomDistractionsYTnot possible via software as Strato V chip has limitation to natively output UI in 2160p. Hopefully they will resolve this in upcoming models. Funny that you mention that, I was watching Furiosa a few weeks ago and I had two split second drop outs. They were both within minutes of each other. It was during a calm section of the movie so the first time it happened I wasn't sure but then the second time it happened I started to wonder if something was wrong but then it didn't happen again. I haven't noticed it since but haven't watched another full movie since then. They were so quick that I don't think my friend that I was watching with even noticed. Have you experienced something similar?
@@RandomDistractionsYTApparently it is an on going problem with the Strato V. The Kaleidescape forum has many users complaining of this issue. I was ready to pull the trigger on purchasing one myself but have decided to hold fire until the problem is rectified. Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later!
Oh man, well I do hope that they get it figured out. I know that there is a recent update so will try and see if I can sit down and watch another movie to see if it happens. The first movie I watched with it didn't have any issues but besides Furiosa I've only been watching clips from movies a not an entire one so will keep an eye on it.
I have tried and tried to justify this but for what it is it's not worth it , you still only have about 29 movies at a time on there. $4000 would get you a nas, a zidoo, and a whole lot of movies to buy and even a pc to boot.
Yeah, I hear you and it's actually only about 10-11 if you do 4K so less justified for you. If you have the space for doing the NAS, Ziddo, PC, and movies I would not dissuade you from it as I do think it's a great option. For me, it's been about convenience and I have actually found myself wanting to buy more movies now so I haven't felt disappointed in the purchase. In my case, it fits my use case better than the other option. Either way, it's ultimately getting to enjoy movies!
Even if I have the money I will not pay 4K for 1080p I have 200 movies on Apple TV and lot mores disks. Once these companies will go out of business this will be nice box. I already see some 4 content I bought wen to 1080p when services merged same goes for atmos or no atmos, I bought movies on privilege 4K and that has disappeared money gone. I have already invested in oppo and pioneer lx500 player which is best as it could for 4K content.
Yeah, there is always that possibility and the price is still pretty high for the storage capacity for sure. Will keep everyone posted as time goes by on how it's going.
I'm just buying 4 to 8tb ssd's every once in a while and put "downloaded" movies on them. Hopefully I can get like a giant 100tb ssd in the future to just store everything will probably need more but...
By the time 100TB ssd comes at a decent price there will be new system and codec in place. Many places already have 2Gbps internet that will change the consumption case of media and entertainment. My experience of past with music was it took me countless hours to convert 200 plus cds to best audio codec and now with streaming it is absolutely useless I never used that hard drive. Spend more time in backing it up. That was 20 gig data, here we are talking about 100 TB, fate of movies on drive will be same
@Scorpion-king-c8q i have a 2Gbps internet connection. The reason for wanting to be able keep everything in one place is that I have purchased streaming only movies or video games to only have that service deleted or unable to be play those movies for reasons even tho I already paid them. So for something I paid for I am unable to keep. The reason for my 2Gbps internet is for work and so when I find better looking movies I can get them faster lol. Physical is better unless u never want to own anything and you want to live the rest of your life renting and giving the person who has the physical copy all your money forever
Yeah, despite the "lower" price it is unfortunately still expensive. Since I felt comfortable with everything else in my system (for now) I decided it was ok for me to invest in this part of it.
I have the Strato V and it’s awesome in my theater. Welcome to the club. One thing that I really like is getting movies early before the disc.
