- Sausage Breakfast Casserole
6 slices of bread
1 lb. sausage, browned and crumbled
6 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Cube bread and put in bottom of a greased 9”x13” baking dish.
Sprinkle the browned and crumbled sausage over the bread.
Mixed together the eggs, milk, and salt in a blender. Pour the mixture over the sausage and bread, then cover with shredded cheese.
Cover the casserole dish and refrigerate overnight.
Bake uncovered at 350° for 45 minutes.

Thank you for your take on this casserole. We make it with hash browned potatoes on the bottom instead of the bread and use French's Fried Onion on it. Delicious!

I’m now living in west Virigina I’ve worked most of my life when raising my children, I lost three of my husbands one was a firman in Wichita Kansas and a police officer in California and my last was a barber out of springfield Missouri. I didnot get to cook much but you have no ideal how nice it is to get your recipes and they are so easy you make it almost fun I’m 80 now and I’m going to try to collect All your recipes so far I’ve done a pretty good job.

This is a good casserole. You could also add hash browns to this. I think that would also be good. Really you can do anything you want with this recipe. I have a half recipe made up and in the fridge ready for tomorrow morning. Another good one. Thank you.

This looks amazing and i dont even like eggs. But my family loves them. So, thank you for this recipe. Do you think it could be made with hashbrowns in it? Maybe cook them up and put them on top in the morning before the cheese? Just curious what you think of that idea.😊😊😊😊

Use to host our family Christmas Eve Morning brunch. This casserole was always on my table along with Cheese Grits casserole and additional meats, homemade biscuits be and preserves.

Think about adding some green chili’s with the onion then. They would enhance the southwestern flavor. Add some Mexican blend cheese on top w/sour cream/chopped scallions. Yum!

I came back to thank you, I made it yesterday with keto bread because I eat the keto way. I did everything the way you said to do it after I took it out of the oven this morning I let it sit for about an hour or so because I wasn’t ready to eat I know I didn’t have to let it sit that long, I cut it in the size I like and ate some and oh my gosh it is so good. Another thing is so awesome is I don’t eat breakfast a lot because I don’t feel like cooking, this way I portioned it out so now every morning that I want some all I have to do is take my portion out either put it in the microwave or air fryer to warm it up and I’ve got breakfast with no effort thank you so very much I truly appreciate you.
Forgot to mention for my side today I had some sugar-free blackberry jam to go with my bread everything was awesome, thank you again 😊

When you have a glass casserole dish that has been in the refrigerator overnight, here is a tip. Take the dish out of the fridge and put it in a cold over. Set the temperature on the oven and when it reaches the temperature start timing it.
Good tip. We usually just leave it out a bit to come to room temperature but this would be faster.
I fix something similar to that, but instead of bread I use Pillsbury Crescent rolls pressed around in the bottom of my baking dish. Delicious!

Great job.I love the way you line up all of your ingredients. You really make following you and your recipes. I make the same dish for breakfast for the whole gang on Thanksgiving morning because it fills everyone up till dinner in the afternoon. The ony thing I do different is instead of using bread on the bottom , I use shredded hashbrown potatoes.

I've also made this with English muffins sliced in half and alternated them with Canadian bacon. eggs and cheese
This is very similar to what my mom used to make, and I now make. My mom made this as a way to use up stale bread. She usually used ham. I use ham mostly, but sometimes chicken
The only thing I disagree with is that one has to plan ahead. It is not necessary to sit overnight. I pour my egg mixture over it, mash it with a spatula, then in the oven it goes. Delicious.

Only thing I do differently is 1/2 tsp. of salt and a tsp. of pepper - most ingredients already have salt in them so really no need to add salt, but if you do use only half of what is called for and double the pepper. Tom is correct when he tells you to put in whatever you like. I have been making this Sausage Casserole for years and I often change up what goes into it and no matter what is added it is always delicious. This looks so unhealthy and delicious that I have got to make this one weekend. It is really hard to find shredded hash browns here in Toronto but I'll bet I could chop up / flake some hash brown patties. This is also great to make a day ahead when you have company for breakfast. Truly a great special occasion (forget the diet) dish. Thank you very much.
