Loved how you preempted the "Where is the 5700x3d" comments
But where is the 5600x3d? /s
@@takuma7812 i'll also be expecting an athlon 5000G3D comparison with all other 3D v-cache processors
@@takuma7812 Checking into this video mostly for the data, I'd rather see a 5600X or related part on this list as a baseline or benchmark. It's a $150 +$75-100 for a mobo then $50 for RAM, all in maybe $300 and you have a great 6 core system. I've built 3 systems this year with a 5600X specifically for friends on a budget.
I'll see if the transcript mentions the preemptive "Where 5###?" because I'm not skipping back to find out what it was.
5600x3d is more interesting anyways. It keeps up 1:1, is cheaper, and further showcases what 6 cores are capable of when done right. It's far easier to extrapolate 5700x3d results out of a 5800x3d because the boost clock is the only difference.
That bastard didn't compare the goat, the Motorola 68000. Without it Sonic games suck, no blast processing is why genesis does what microsonftn't
Wow, just wow. I can't believe you didn't include the Athlon X2.
2600K is still valid in 2024! heresy, overclocking past these young uns.
Now I'll never know if it is worth upgrading 😞
It's two CPUs for the price of one! Twice the FPS, double the savings! You don't know what you're missing; it's a game changer!

Team AM386DX-40 here: absolutely fuming that it wasn't included!
I’ve still got a 5775C @ 4.2ghz with 32gb of DDR3 1866, aka the first x3d chip. I’d love to see that compared to the real x3d chips.
Can't wait for 5800X3D to be included in Zen 5 X3D CPUs review
It will be interesting to see it included with the Zen 6 X3D benches!
It needs to be as many AM4 holdouts like myself need to see that comparison.
Let's be real. It will probably be in every X3D comparison for the near future.

What they should do is dump the older CPU's and go with the newer.
No point in keeping the old when it is replaced with newer and better parts of more than 2 generations. (For example, 5800X3D, pretty much dead platform at AM4)

It is basically the greatest gaming CPU ever created considering platform, cost and price. Zero tinkering required, drop in to every Am4 board created in the last 7 years. Dirt cheap low latency DDR4 now and at release. I think it surpasses sandy bridge.

@@aberkae Not after the latest few windows updates.
@@aberkae The clocks on the X3D CCD are 5% slower than on the vanilla CCD. So in fully multi threaded workloads that don't benefit from extra cache it's about 2.5% slower. That said, in my case (large project software compilation) it's actually overall a little faster, as the linking stage appears benefit from more cache.
@@andersjjensen makes sense
Idk, sounds like the 7950X3D is pretty ass and you just settled. They shouldve made the whole thing vcache and if they couldnt do that then stick witht he 7800X3D. They dont have the software i guess to do what Intel and Mac do with their hybrid chip design. And tbh they really dont have to if they just dont over complicate things. They also need to stop wasting time with nonvcache chips and make them the standards next time, but they wanna keep charging more for them when. $400-$500 for an 8 core in this time is insane
Two reasons I bought a 5800X3D:
1. It's a great performer and technically interesting processor
2. Knowing it will be on benchmarking charts from HUB for years to come
hes not arguing that you shouldnt buy it if you already had ddr4 and a motherboard, hes saying its a waste buying it new with new b550 stuff. and I agree.
And to have amd specific issues

This could be really boring or REALLY interesting
That's the Intel Core i7-5775C :p
d'aw, so kyoot!
Regarding the remark for people building a new system, I think that the performance of 7600X is also noteworthy. Under 5% performance margin is virtually indistinguishable and that CPU is significantly cheaper than a 5800X3D, enough to offset any additional platform cost of AM5. So anyone thinking "I'm on a budget and the 5800X3D is a beast; AM5 is nice, but the boards and DDR5 are more expensive", you can actually get the same level of performance for the same amount of money on AM5. And you'll have an upgrade path to even better CPUs (pretty much any other AM5 model, save for the 7600 non-X and 7500F, which are very close in performance as well and so likewise awesome options, being even cheaper).
I agree with this statement, 7600x is a beast of a CPU and if you really need more performance in a few years, you can just drop a 7800x3d, maybe even a 9000 series Ryzen when they launch. New builds on AM4 should be considered only for very tight budgets.
7600 runs with less power
that's something I have to keep emphasizing whenever there's too much AM4 veneration in the comments of someone asking for PC parts suggestions. You can defacto get the 5800X3D as the entry level CPU of AM5, and should you want to upgrade to say a 9800X3D down the road... you'll have that option. The 5800X3D for new system builders is just kicking down the cost of a full platform upgrade down the road, so I hardly consider it an unequivocal W in terms of value.
@@lyserberg 5800x3d of am5 platform? bruh
@@dagnisnierlins188 I think you missed the starting point of "If you are not currently on AM4"
Over the last 6 years I've gone from "whats cheap on facebook marketplace" 3570k to a 3800x, dropped in a 5800x3d and then won a 7950x3d based system from another tech youtuber. The 5800x3d and 6700xt I had was AMAZING for the money I had in it, and that 3800x to x3d upgrade was so cheap and easy and made such a big difference. The X3D family is just amazing. So much gaming performance and very little power useage. And I can still CAD model and render videos just fine for the 3x a year I do it.
What a great time to be into PCs, and I've been doing it since the 90s.

Still waiting for ryzen over 9000!

@@leotide1990 what are the chances they change the name before ryzen 10000
@@potatoes5829 zero chance. Zen 5 (9x00) should be on final engineering samples/clock selection at this point, although there were rumors they went for a respin over the winter to either fix an issue or eek out more performance.
Zen 6 (10/11x00) is already confirmed in development (don't recall the codename) and I cannot fathom that they'd change the Ryzen naming/branding of a popular lineup that will likely still be on AM5.
"Zen 7" is the first chance for them to move away from the Zen/Ryzen numbering and branding, since they're expected to keep it until AM5 ends. DDR6 is the limiting factor here, if AMD doesn't pull an Intel and move to new chipsets (DDR6 is not commercially available, engineering samples barely exist for the lowest speeds, and JEDEC standard timings have not been locked in). Purchasable DDR6 is easily 2 years away, as many as 4, and may contribute to whether we see 2, 3, or even 4 Zen gens on AM5/DDR5.
With x3D v-cache in mind, AMD is less dependent on RAM speeds for performance than Intel (at the moment), so they could arrive a full year late to DDR6 with a "post-Zen" processor and not really get punished for it
Ryzen 8888 is golden naming opportunity 😂
well, if you intend to play on high refresh rate monitors - such as new 32" 4K 240 Hz QD-OLED panels then we need to wait for the future hardware. Even Ryzen 7850X3D + RTX 4090 cannot go past 145 FPS in modern titles on ultra presets, so I am also waiting!
The fact people aren’t letting you get away without including it only goes to show how absolutely GOATed that chip is.
Honestly deserves to go down in history alongside Athlon 64, Core 2 Duo, and the 8086 for being a huge and iconic advancement in capability through packaging
There is no instructions to do that, unless someone gonna bench Doom! or Wolfenstein 3D from early 90's on a 7800X3D)))
Just sorta happens when you get a golden boy "meme" processor going; The venerable 2500k also comes to mind in that regard.
@@KittyKatKya The 2500k became that legendary because Intel started eating their crayons and sniffing their glue right after Sandy Bridge. I mean, we're all glad they did, as that gave AMD the breathing room they needed to sell their fabs, fend off bankruptcy, come up with Zen and start making a comeback. But strictly speaking, the 2500k wasn't a massive leap over it's predecessor. A notable one, compared to what came after, but nothing out of the ordinary. 3D V-Cache, however, hit like a lightening strike from a clear blue sky. Nobody saw that coming. And it came after AMD had thoroughly shown Intel who was boss in both power efficiency and multi threaded performance. But... the 5800X3D won't be as long lived as the 2500k, as now the gaming industry actually expect CPU gaming performance to increase by 20-30% every 2 years again.
I do expect a lot of 8086K + 1080 Ti 'retro builds' coming up in the future.
@@andersjjensen Wasn't really commenting on a specific reason as to why it was held up so highly, only that when you have any chip that so ubiquitously gets held up as "the" one to get, it's going to become a benchmark that people will repeatedly ask about for years to come, even if it can't keep up for an extended period of time.
It becomes a, for better or for worse, standard for comparison because so many become familiar with it.
That said, while I wouldn't say it was some massive leap versus the gen that came before it, it was a large enough one *combined with* the absolutely silly overclocking headroom that gave it such a big name, even when Ivy (and more so) Haswell were seen as decent developments.

thanks for the new video, having 5800x3d inbetween these + competitive settings in CS2 really makes sense for a lot of people to decide if they need to upgrade or not, competitive Fortnite aiming for 300fps would've been nice to see too, cuz upgrading from 5800x3d to 7800x3d at the moment makes sense only if you own 4090 and/or gonna do competitive Esports, otherwise the performance gains are slim to none
Thanks for adding the 5800X3D! Great to see how I compare to the newer parts and determine when I want to upgrade.
The reason for using 720p/1080p for CPU gaming benchmarks is simple:
1) FPS is a combined result of CPU and GPU performance and is always the slower of the two.
2) A CPU's function is to operate game mechanics and send draw calls to the GPU.
3) A CPU's performance is not affected by resolution or graphics settings.
4) A GPU's performance is significantly affected by resolution and graphics settings.
Therefore, a CPU will have the same performance at 2160p that it does at 720p. Since the FPS rate is always determined by the smallest performance number of the CPU and GPU, a benchmarker will make it very easy on the GPU with low resolution so that we can see what the CPU can do when not encumbered by an overworked GPU.
There, I said it for you Steve! 😁
was gonna question this, Thanks AvroBellow!
Sick, as someone who just upgraded their GTX 1080 to a 4070 Super, but still deciding between staying on AM4 and upgrading from a Ryzen 3700x to 5800x3d or going full AM5 and getting a 7800x3d, this is great, ty! I honestly think because I'm 1080p 144hz for life, I will probably get more lifetime out of AM4 and just go 5800x3d, and skip AM5 entirely and then upgrade the next time they release a new motherboard series. In the UK the price difference between 5800x3d and 5700x3d is only like £35, doesn't make sense to go for the lower CPU at these breakpoints.

I can skip AM5 and then get a bigger performance upgrade on their next motherboard vertical to AM6. And yes I utilise 64gb ram for design software.
That's the conclusion I came to. With a 5800X3D my 3090 is often the bottleneck at 4K anyway, so there isn't much point to upgrading the CPU just yet. I should be able to ride out AM5 I think. If not, I'll have take a look at the current offerings.

Therefore, I want to max out its potential before moving forward to new socket. Great experience so far in all games I played (thankfully I don't play those AAA titles except CS2). Great video, as always!!
Very Happy with the 5800x3d performance, especially with it undervolted.
I cant wait for 9800X3D/9900X3D or 9950X3D!
I want to upgrade from 10850K.. 13900K and 14900K doesnt feel that appealing due to lower clocks and so hot chips.. I dont want a furnace in my room and high power bill!
wouldn't have to run the furnace in the winter here in the north as much. lol
@@onomatopoeia162003 furnace.. AMD isnt worse than Intel.. before the ¨intel default profile¨ 13900K etc would run to 100 degrees.. so.
Thanks!
Another great video from SteveX3D but I am a bit miffed there was no TimX3D in there
It would be really nice with an AMD vs Nvidia comparison in situations where you are CPU bottlenecked. Similar to the R5 5600 scaling video, but comparing cards from both manufacturers. The current video only included Nvidia GPUs, but historically Nvidia has had more driver overhead, causing performance loss to be greater in CPU limited situations compared to AMD. Is this still the case? How large is this effect currently?
I just do not understand why y'all are so reluctant to do videos on the 5800x3d!
Good idea of putting a "benchmarking basics" video link in the description.
To no effect. The comments are full of people demanding gpu buying advice from a cpu review.
@@blegi1245 Yeah, but at least you can say "check the link in the description since you obviously don't know how this works."
this animation in the cost analysis was great Unfortunately, this something came to the conclusion but I would like these to be used more often.
gives the channel a little more fresh and looks "higher quality"
Those that have a 7950x3d. Set the cpu to prefer cache in bios (ccd0) and put a negative offset of at least 20 on those ccd0 cores (first 8) in curve optimizer.
Suprised many of these "Benchmark" videos dont show this, it makes a significant differance.
Yes the Ryzen 9 3Ds results are basically rigged in this video, they have up to 20% performance difference with manual overclocking, windows is using the non 3D cores.
Just note that while getting away with -20 is probably fine for the lower clocked X3D CCD, it does depend on your silicon lottery luck whether your CPU can do it. I had my 7950X (non-X3D) running ok with -20 for a while, but after heating up under heavy load it occasionally got unstable and I had to be a little less aggressive on that setting. So do your stability testing if you do this. I would recommend lowering the value until you see instability, then back off by ~5mV to be on the safe side.
@@Hugh_I Absolutely, however on a 7950x3d -20 is the generic recomended safe bet for people that arent overly confident in OC practices. You would have to be really unlucky to get a 7950x3d where a negative offset of 20 isnt acheivable. The key part to killer gaming performance is really setting the cpu to favor that 3d cache anyway.
@@user-fg6mq3dg3d Right!, blows my mind that in these gaming performance benchmarks they dont show what these cpu's are really capable of for gameing. Just lazy.
Nah. If he wants to add overclocking as a separate data point, that's fine, but it definitely shouldn't be represented as the standard for any given chip.
Playing with the 7700x in 4k with a 4090, it doesn't feel like im missing out on cpu with the x3D.
It is sad not having 4k comparison.
At 4K its likely not. I compared my 7800X3D to a spare system I had with a regular 7600 and at 4K with a 4090 it was within like 5% in almost every game. Going down to 1440p the gap gets wider.
Mostly right but, do you use dlss? If so you may not be playing 4k... With a 4090 who cares lol I'm sure you're perf is awesome
Picked up a 7600X for $199. I'm good enough now in wait mode till next gens X3D version
Obviously. Saw a video a couple of days ago about the cheap 13400F vs 14900K in 4K with a 4090 and they performed exactly the same since you are almost always GPU bound and when you are not (lets say in CS GO) it doesn't matter whether you pull 300 or 400 fps
That is the best intro i've ever seen hahahaha well done!
Yo! grats on 1m subs! and i can see this already being very annoying, might want to just keep a running list that maybe you put up at the end of the outro or something. not particularly saying it has to have the 5800x3d, but maybe the top 20 or 25 cpus / gpus (with graph for idiots like me :D ). i could also see this for motherboard based videos, you know, just stuff that is relevant. AM4 doesn't have an upgrade path passed the 5800x3d, but for a lot of us, it is still viable, as you have said on many occasions. Great video, and again, grats on 1M :)
You can never have too much 5800X3D. Apparently.
Maybe we need a 5800x3d x 1080 ti modern day benchmarks. So what if those parts released 5 years apart. GOAT means the hardware is timeless... right?
LOL Answered the "do we really need another 5800X3D" before you answered it!!!
I always thought the 5800X3D was comparable to the 7700X which is good i know it's not holding back my 4070Ti Super. Good more me as i didn't want to invest in a new motherboard and memory just yet anyway.
I'd love to see a comparison between standard 5000 series ryzen vs the 7000 and X3D cpus. I have a 5900x, and so the 5800x3d isn't really for me, but im curious how much better a modern cpu is, as i do seem to be cpu bottlencked in some games using a 6800xt gpu at 1440p. I'll of course be waiting for the next gen of CPUs before upgrading, so would be interested in a video comparison against those too. Great video!
Thank you!
The 7900x 3D should have been 8+4 with the 3D cache on the 8 core side.
No, because how would they get rid of the 3D CCDs with 1-2 bad cores? Thats the whole point of this part, to get rid of the ones that don't make an 8-core lmao
@@arc00ta I agree, all 8 cores should be 3D, with 4 normal cores on the second chip. chips with 1 or 2 bad cores can go to 7700x3d (similar to 5700x3d). Chips with 1 or 2 broken cores can be 7600x3d. If you are paying that much for a 3d chip, why would you want a nerfed 3d chip? Would also allow AMD to charge a reasonable amount for the 7900x3d, instead of constant sales. The only problem really is the lack of defective chips that need to be reduced all the way down to 4 cores.
@@mikesteve3039 You can agree with whatever you want, it doesn't stop the 3D stacked dies from having faulty cores. Going by the 5000 series, they don't have enough of them to waste on 6-core parts until the socket is almost done (5600X3D).
@@arc00ta Wait...so there is not enough faulty chips to make a 7600x3d... but there IS enough to make the 7900x3d? You are contradicting yourself right there.
The 6 core parts in the 7900x3d should have gone into the 7600x3d instead. And the 7900x3d should have 8 3d cores, and a slightly higher price to account for the better chip.
@@mikesteve3039 higher margins butthead, they’re not your friends. Why would they use them for a 6 core when they can make you buy an 8 or 12 core? Use your brain.
This is what I've been waiting for! I have the 5800X3D and already been wondering: how abouuuuut...
Cheers! Thanks!
Love this - the dedication to delivering content to the 'nth degree' is epic and to be commended - I've been using your content since I subbed back during the pandemic - it helped me by my value budget build back then - now I have bit more money 2024 - your content is helping me again build an awesome build again Thanks for all you do for us!! :)
What is your budget? What specs are you going for with the new build?
@@MrAnimescrazy AMD build with a 4090.
@MarkHyde nice that is my current build in my profile picture which I need to update and I recently just started buying the correct parts from the few mistakes I initially made when I first bought the parts for the pc. I bought two lian li v2 strimmer cables and 4 reverse fans so the stickers don't show so I can have the clean look. I will install them later this week. Then once the next 3d amd chips come out upgrade my motherboard to an x670 and buy faster latency ram and go from 4 sticks to two sticks and the same amount of ram. Then I will eventually sell my 4090 to put money towards the 5090. I will keep the all white theme as well.
Steve is it possible to show what your setup is for the 7900x3d or the 7950x3d? Do you use game bar or process lasso for games to prefer the first 8 cores?
Thank you Steve, love you! ❤
Absolutely amazing video, will not upgrade to AM5 till I see a meaningful upgrade XD thank you very much Steve!!
Why not intel, am6 better wait to save money and earth
@@jussikankinen9409 Why would I save earth ?
Thanks for the update, Steve. Despite you having previous 5800X3D comparisons, the value here is seeing it in your current, 2024 selection of games. I'm bookmarking this for the next 6 months of "should I upgrade my AM4 CPU or buy a whole new AM5 system?" questions!
Depends on your budget. Unless you're looking at 78x3d.. I would buy the 58x3d.
Awesome analysis, as usual. I just upgraded my system from 5600X/32 3200Mhz CL16/Asus B450 mobo to 7700/32GB 6400 CL32/ASRock B650M PG Riptide and I am happy. Retained my older 3080Ti and got new 4k Gigabyte M32UC (from LG 27GN850). Tweaked my system with PBO +200, CO -30 all cores, adjusted TDP parameters and memory 6400 @CL30 with FCLK=2133Mhz = it is now besting standard 7700X, and with AIO cooling running at 70% max is quite. Next upgrade will definitely be 9800X3D. and maybe RTX 5070Ti/Super. :)
P.S. May I suggest to do 1440p as default testing with such CPUs and GPU and also include AAA like Alan Wake 2 and the likes ... intensive ones.
Patiently wating for video 22! Honestly, the 5800X3D is one of the best computer purchases I've ever made, second only to buying AM4 in the first place. The Celeron 300 (450mhz OC) back in 1999 is up there too, haha.
Bro I feel the exact way about mine. I upgraded from a 7 1700 and still using a B350.
Celeron 300A is the all time GOAT of overclocking.
@@AndyViant We'll never see 50% overclocks again, sadly.
@@Invid72 not all of them could do 50% overclock. A few could do more.
But 95%+ could do a 50% overclock on stock cooler with stock voltages which was truly insane.
These days a 50% O/C usually needs massive voltage changes, a silicon lottery jackpot, and insane cryo cooling.
@@AndyViant Mine did 50% on stock voltage but I could never get it stable pushing the front side bus past 100MHz so it topped out at 450Mhz. Still enough to be faster than the Pentium II which cost 4 times as much. Crazy.
Hold on, I thought it was a one time thing. But now I've watched 3 or 4 of your videos... do people really always tell you you missed 1 part and you redo the video with that part in it? I am realizing is a bit of an internal meme but also holy shit, thank you!
I quick slide at the beginning of the video with rough equivalents could remind folks of similar performing parts on the same-ish platform and save you some time benchmarking. Assuming people read them! Although performance might be a known quantity, there are some amazing deals on AM4 and intel 12th gen right now that might be driving interest in how last gen parts compare with current gen. 12th gen intel and AM4 non X3d parts are straight up budget priced right now, allowing builders on a budget to get pretty insane levels of CPU performance even if limited by their GPU. Honestly this is the best time to build a PC even if the higher end GPUs are pricey.
Do we need another video from Hardware Unboxed... Absolutely!
Yea, we need this 21th video, thank u
Thank you
@Hardware Unboxed Thank you for including the 5800x3d, you're the best!
This video is just what I need. I was looking at upgrading my R5 3600, and maybe a R7 5xxxx is right for me! Thanks
very good video..how much work would it be to test with 7900 xtx?
Thanks for the update, I can wait for Zen6. There will be a significant uplift in gaming for the 5800x3d. I have been very happy with my combo 5800x3d and 4090 with 32gb Cl14. I also am a proud owner of the Antec Performance F1 case, no need to upgrade if your on AM4 with 5800x3d.
if you game at 4K I suspect the difference will be totally marginal and not worth the upgrade. The problem with 1080P and a 4090 is that it's a ridiculous mostly unlikely pairing.
@eaglemmoomin_418
I went from 1660 super and the 3600x, to 5800x3d and the 4090. That was a big jump in fps and quality at 4k.
Thank you good Sir!
Haha great attitude and call out! Keep it up.
Thanks for the video. I was debating whether I should have spent the extra money and gone from the 3800x to 7700x, instead of just upgrading the cpu to the 5800x3d. Looking at these, I think I made the right choice for the next few years. I might upgrade to the am5 platform when they get to zen 6. Those numbers showed me that my real bottleneck is my 5700xt. I'm hoping that the next release of nvidia/amd graphics gives us something good in the mid level. I feel it's too close to the next release to consider existing gpus.
In the same position as you, waiting for 5070. Just hoping they at least have 16gb vram this time
Hello. Could you please do un updated video of the best deals on hardware specs on motherboards for the AM5 platform? I haven't seen any video of that kind for at least 6 months in your chanel. In case there is, could you link that video? Thanks!!!
Super cool Antec sponsored this video. The Performance 1 Silent is such a good case and it has an option for a solid side panel for those who don't want the glass fishbowl look. great cooling and great design for a full size case
Thanks for addressing the 5800X3D in the X3D comparison :)
Us 5800X3D owners just need the copium that we made the right choice and don’t need to upgrade, thanks Steve!
