With Heilung, I turn off my musician/analytical brain and just experience them. Maria, the redhead with the dreads, did an hour long interview with Elizabeth from The Charismatic Voice channel and said it takes her an hour to get ready. She talks a lot about how the group gets their inspiration. They’re a fascinating group.
It never ceases to amaze me that Maria taps those bones for the entirety of the song. In Maidjan is an amazing song as well - you should really check it out.
@@deed5811 I find it hilarious iTunes actually lists their album Ofnir as "Metal". Of course, they had some Nine Inch Nails under "Electronica/Dance" for a while so...
To explain a little where you can classify "Heilung"( it means "Healing"): The music of Heilung should make "sounds and sounds of bygone times" come alive again and bring you in contact with your "inner healed self". This is not only limited to the music, but also to the poems contained. The languages used are diverse: from German and English to Gothic and Latin to proto-Norse. As a further stylistic device, the band members wear elaborately designed traditional costumes on stage. They are partly based on the "spiritual traditions of the Eurasian circumpolar peoples" or reproduce historically correct images of Viking Age clothing. Heilung describe their music as "amplified history". You can take that literally. On the stage of the German-Danish collective you will find human bones converted into instruments, ancient drums, bronze rings and sometimes entire armies armed with shields and swords based on the material of the Iron and Viking Age. Because some Misguided see music about ancient times and the use of Nordic symbolism as an invitation to missionary, nationalistic and right-wing extremist ideas, Heilung emphasizes that their art is independent of modern political and religious systems. Any attempt to make a connection is "pointless" as Heilung "tries to connect the listener to the time before Christianity and its political offspring raped and burned their way into the Northern European mentality."
If you want to go see them live, they just announced their fall 2023 tour in the USA. Looks like it’s mostly in the eastern part of the United States. However, I have seen them live. They are incredible! It is definitely worth going to one of their rituals. I can’t explain it any better than it is just a spiritual experience!
This was their first live performance at Castlefest, I believe. They make their own costumes. Some of their songs comes from Rune stones. Asja is a beautiful song, and amazing live. It is a song for healing.
This music is so primal, I'd love to see them live. Mesmerising to listen to and watch. The voices are amazing, especially the female vocalist, so clear and pure.
Fun Fact: This was Heilung's first EVER live show together as a band.🤯 When they came together, they came together STRONG👍 I had to come edit because Imma nerd: 05:50 one of the things I personally find very beautiful about the sounds they are making by clanging metal bits together, charms and cymbals is that it sounds VERY much like a blacksmiths forge when the men are at work. You hear rhythms and music tinging from the items they forge and in the Norse culture a blacksmith was held in HIGH regard. He was considered touched by the Gods for his ability to forge ore of the earth in a way that aided them in their conquests. A skill not many had. As the song goes on and the battle commences the sound of the metal being forged into swords and axes is nearly deafening with its crescendo. I think this small but poetic touch is lost on a lot of listeners and they may not understand the power behind the sounds.
Heilung has touched my soul more than any other music… got to see their ceremony live & it was life changing!!! All their instruments are traditional, hand made & painted with their own blood, one of the instruments is strung with the hair of an Indian Chiefs daughter… they use real animal & human bones, they get their lyrics from old runes & coins. Heilung means healing… they are going back to our roots with spiritualism & spreading the word that we are all brothers.
Heilung tours regularly. They have been in the USA and the UK. Heilung live performance is more than just a concert. It is a TRUE FULL EXPERIENCE because you feel like you are transported back in time and the beat of the drums and the energy all through your body! Heilung also makes spectacular produced videos of some of their songs. I recommend Narupo and the recent Anoana video.
One of the things that struck me was "lullaby of obliteration." A lullaby, something soothing, calm and innocent entwined with the concept of complete ENDING.
They sing partly in proto-Germanic, which is a hypothesized ancestral language to German, Old Norse and English, and was reverse-engineered from modern languages.
I heard that they had issues with customs entering at least one country because of the human bones they use as instruments. Taking "authentic" to a new level!
The animated video for this song really helps understand the story they’re telling and the imagery is legit old Nordic stuff i believe. It’s really cool! Love heilung 🖤
Having seen them live, yes it is awesome (in the truest sense of the word). You feel the drums right through you. This vid is from their very first live performance ever, let that sink in.
They are incredible. I got to go to a Ceremony (live show) last year and it was one of the best experiences ever. Absolutely see them live if you can worth every penny.
Check out In Maidjan, Othan, and Anoana. They heavily feature the female singer, Maria and showcase her incredible vocal range. In Maidjan and Othan are both available live from this same concert. Honestly, the whole Lifa concert is a must but definitely check out In Maidjan and Othan.
As someone who has seen hundreds of live shows from plenty of different genres. Heilung was absolutely the top 3 live performances I have seen live. Absolutely amazing
I will never get tired of watching reactions to Heilung and The Hu (if you haven't checked them out already lol). My dad showed me this video and I was just silent with my mouth hanging open, lol. Thanks for the reaction!
Hey, 've watched lots of reactions to Heilung, and yours is probably the best , without interrupting the song with an intelligent commentary making points few other reactions vids mention e.g. the visuals and instruments, Great vid
Heilung (German)....Healing......Krigsgaldr ..... Spiritual War Chants.....This LIFA Live Show was their FIRST Live Show ever !!!!.....Band Members are from Germany/Denmark and Norway.....LONG before the Vikings !....Maria Franz plays HUMAN Bones !....Faust,the Lead Singer,is also one of the Worlds Best TRIBAL TATTOO Artists!
That was their first ever concert in front of a large crowd. Also look at Faun from Germany. They did a Arte festival show over the weekend and it is on youtube. Pagan folk metal is the genre.
If you love the “call-and-response” thing you GOTTA see them live. They make great use of it throughout the performance and it weaves everyone together into a tribe.
The instruments they use are old traditional instruments, and the costumes they wear are all home made and based upon what has been historically proven to be how these proto germanic tribes would have dressed. The head dresses are actual headresses from some of the tribes still left in Northern Europe.
I would love to see them live, by all accounts it’s something very special. The video for the studio version of this song is well worth watching as it tells the story.
Heilung apparently means “healing”, according to their website. Yeah, this was their first big show (they’d played a few small SCA and Viking re-enactment events before). This whole concert is 🔥, I used to listen to this to hype myself up to play God Of War (2018)!
they have a drum, it's their biggest one, sitting in the middle of the stage, at the back, it's called Blott, thing is, they paint the frame of the drum with their own blood, every summer, now that's what i call passion
They have a song called Alfadhirhaiti also live from this same ahow it's a whole different but still just as amazing vibe. If you check them out again that live version is amazing and their song noropu
i had the huge luck and privelge of taking part in a ritual in thier first year when averything was till so new and raw.. it was phenominal the drums are so viseral in the small venue were were in
You'd like to see that live? If you're in the U.S. Heilung is coming back on tour USA by the end of the year, do not miss that opportunity to see them!
Felt to hear this again, & ur reaction vid came up. Its an experience, isnt it. Im sure u have read comments re what their name means & nationalities etc. Have u watched the music vid for this tune? U may like Anoana, another Pagan masterpiece.
That must have been AMAZING!!! Hell yeah. I saw Gojira and Devin Townsend at Red Rock Amphitheatre and OMG, the acoustics are phenomenal. Any concert there is one you'll never forget. Thanks for watching and the comment! ✌🏽
I have been listening to Omnia for ages, then a year or two ago Heilung came on the radar. I love them. Am I so wrong for having an older guy crush on Maria?
From what I understand, this song is about the Pagans of what is now the area of Germany, and their first contact with Christians. They attempted to interact peacefully, but the Christians "only understand the language of the sword". Eventually, the Pagans were largely slaughtered, and scattered across the globe, but not wiped out. This is similar to Ireland and the story of St. Patrick, who "drove the Snakes from Ireland" (a euphemism for killing Pagans).
Heilung = Healing :D By the way, all those bones are real. The ones she is clicking in the beginning are human. The giant drum in the back is painted with their blood mixed into the paint.
they aktualy had glases. but more like a monocle to use on one eye found both in denmark sweden and norway made in mountain crystal and sometimes in slitlely greenish colored glas proberbly from boemen and poland. remember viking were not only warriors but also trades men goin as far as turkie russia ukraine south germany :)
Heilung doesn't really do Viking Age stuff. They aim to recreate pre-Viking Age Germanic tribal music and ritual. Before there were Anglos, Saxons, and Danes, we were all inhabiting the same region pre-migrations. In fact, at one point, we were all fighting together against the Roman intrusion of the Germanic region.
2:00 Actually, it doesn't have much to do with Vikings. The costumes and music are based on the early Germanic tribes. The Vikings did not exist until around 800 to 1000 years later and developed from the Germanic tribes. Incidentally, the song is supposed to be about the Varus Battle and the oppression of the Germanic tribes by the Roman Empire. :P
Thanks so much for watching and the comment! This was early on in finding Heilung and I've since learned so much!! Especially after interviewing Kai, the frontman and Shaman of Heilung. When you have time, please check out the interview! ua-cam.com/video/IBsQushnY6k/v-deo.htmlsi=gNUqyIzTaPZ9DaGJ
I've watched the full concert several times, but the ads do break the energy too much. Opening Ceremony starts the individual videos of the concert. There are plenty of shots for each person playing spread throughout the concert. So if you want a better look at something it'll eventually be shown.
I do not understand the words so I am very likely way off base. This however reminds me of good vs " evil", destruction vs healing, steel, iron vs nature.
Heilung refer to their music as "Amplified History"....Maria Franz performs like a pagan shaman and is magnificent, as are all the members........the majority of their music is sung in a proto Germanic-Scandinavian dialect

In Maidjan really shows Maria's vocal ability. She is incredible.
Definitely should be the next one!
I concur,
Next after send'm to battle with Alfadhirhaiti.
I don't know- I'm a huge fan of Norupo. Anoana is magical as well =)

Anoana is now my new favorite of theirs I think, it's just so beautiful and incredible.

that charismatic voice chat was dope. would recommend
Elizabeth, and her channel, are 😎! 👍

"What instrument do you play?"
"It's complicated."
It never ceases to amaze me that Maria taps those bones for the entirety of the song. In Maidjan is an amazing song as well - you should really check it out.

Maria: The bones of our enemies.
Yep, metal without guitars 🤟🏻

They also began preparing for the show three days in advance. I read that somewhere, but I can't find the source now.
