That bone tapping through the whole song… I heard somewhere that the band can find it challenging to get their bone collection through customs. And that some of them are indeed human bones.
Yes Maria has had trouble with customs before. She now has a fake pair and her real pair of human arm bones. The paint used to mark the shields and other things is mixed with the blood of the members. And some of the rattles and such uses human ash.
yes! the dialogue that happens in the middle is like two conflicted brother who have to go to war against each other and how they try to find reasoning. I love the "beloved brother enemy" part
@@DarkAngelCookie I've always interpreted the English bit as people that are overall peaceful being forced into absolute violence. They wish to remain peaceful, hence "beloved brother," but their invaders ("enemy") do not allow them to be. If they cannot be left to their peaceful lives, they will do as the ending lines of the English part say. They will make the old fires of purification look like dying embers. They will completely and utterly destroy the invaders that are preventing these people from living their desired lives of peace.
Are you now or have you ever been one the .....special wee ones ? Knock knock knock or Tap tap tap ( If Jammed down the mines under the Ash that Knotted) ?
@@Las3r_Cat the english part of the song is a translation of an inscription on a standing stone, at least that's what Kai Uwe Faust or Christopher said in an interview about the song.
If you enjoy throat singing, I would recommend you check out Eivør Palsdottir performance of "Trøllabundin" (the outdoors performance with her wearing the flower crown).
interesting side note.. those are a radius and ulna bones she's tapping .. the steady tapping is for shamanic journeying.. the rhythm she taps at the end that is different is a standard call back rhythm which tells you to come back from the upper/lower worlds you have traveled to
First song I ever heard of Heilung's and what a ride it's been since then. So glad you're checking this one out. It would be awesome to see your reaction to the Wardruna and Aurora - Helvegen (Live) video if you haven't already.
The way I hear this song. With the gradual build up. The horns of an army. You hear a hum. Warriors stirring. Then, the drums come in. Their footsteps. The more metal, mechanical sound. Armor and weapons. Maria comes in, with the calm the soothing. A peaceful life. Once Kai comes in. He's the warning to the invading army. I want to be peaceful. I want to avoid the conflict you bring. But you only understand the language of the sword. So, I will show you what a peaceful person is able to do to defend my beloved ones. I will defend them and rest my heart easy after. Once the battle is over. The army is dying in the fires of purification. Maria brings back the calm. With Kai in the background with the warnings. Basically saying "I am a man of peace. But I will show great violence to protect those I love."
The song is the story of the Vanir (early Germanic culture and beliefs) which held predominantly more fertility based beliefs and their encounter with the Aesir (later stage germanic culture and beliefs most likely from a different region) which were more warlike and steeped in battle and strife, and how one can affect and influence the other, which later gave birth to what we call proto germanic culture. Much the same way that early Christianity and the later stage pagan beliefs began to influence each other or even the celts and roman. What happens when a culture of peace meets a culture of war?!
Just returned from seeing them at Midgardsblot (Viking-folk-(black)metal festival lasting 4 days in southern Norway arranged by Midgard Viking museum at Borre.) They performed on a stage surrounded by trees and with the burial mounds of Viking jarls in the back. Bonfires and drumming into the early hours of the day every day made it an absolutely incredible experience. And Heilung were the last big stage performance on the last day of the festival. A well deserved spot in my opinion.
@@Kelly_Cook I agree. That was unfortunate. But I suspect this has to do with orchestrating a new stage show etc. Think they don't want to arbitrary tack on new materiel onto the existing set. But for sure, hope next time they are at Midgardsblot they bring a new set with their new music.
@@ark296 Midgardsblot was the good bye to the old Futha live set. They will pick up newer songs along the US tour. In Atlanta they played Anoana. Remember, these people don't all live together and get to practice a lot. They have to do that in between shows, tours and festivals.
@@natephillips1797 As far as I understand it. I is not a 100% guarantee that Heilung will be there each year. But Maria is from the local area, and the site is important to them all. So them returning to the place is rather likely.
Their new album, Drif, released the other day. One of the songs, Nikkal, is actually the oldest known song in the world, and is absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth multiple listens
Great reaction! Just got the new Heilung album on vinyl. Since you like Heilung, I think you'd like Wardruna as well. Please react to Wardrunas performance of "Helvegen" live, togheter with Aurora. With wonderful harmonies!
Need to check out Hakkerskaldyr next. Uses lyrics from the same poem. Krigsgaldr tells the story from the village being like “hey leave us alone, we don’t want to fight” Whereas Hakkerskaldyr is after their enemies forced them into war. “What am I supposed to do if I want to talk about peace and understanding but you only understand the language of the sword” Basically FAFO and Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum combined
You also have to remember the Lifa show was from their very first time performing live as Heilung. Obviously as great musicians songwriters and performers before they had done other stuff with other bands, but this was the first time they had performed live onstage as Heilung. I'll never forget hearing it late one night, after a busy evening at work in 2017. I had a glass of wine and incense and just fell in love with it instantly.
I highly recommend you "Helvegen" from Wadruna feat. Aurora. Really powerful performance, all Singers together made a Masterpiece. Also if you didnt know Aurora, she is an incredible Artist and Singer.
The first time I heard that song I deliberately disabled subs so I can concentrate fully on the music/performance... It made me cry even though I only knew what the song was supposed to mean and (back then) didn't know a single word Norse. A true masterpiece.
Maria is dressed in a true copy of a dress found on a girl called Egtved pigen. Egtved pigen were a human sacrifice to Odin during viking age here in Denmark. She is a bog mummy. You should give Songleikr: ulvetimen a listen. Performed by Maria and Christoffer from Heilung.
eh... Egtved pigen was from the bronze age, about 500 years before and her outfit didn't look like this. You may be thinking of another archeological find, but I can't think of any
I love that you´re so open-minded regarding all different kinds of music and that you not only give other music and artists their time to show what their music is capable of doing (for example, helping other people) but that you also feel and embrace it, as well 😊🤘
I got to see them this weekend at Midgardsblot, and I have to say it's one of the most powerful musical experiences I've ever had. It didn't exactly feel like a concert, it was more like taking part of some ritual. If you ever get the chance to see them live don't pass it up. Wonderful reaction as usual!
This concert, the first in that form, was at Castlefest. I couldn't attend because I was at the festival 240 meters (800 feet) away taking care of my kids, which of course comes first. A few years later I went to see them and instead of taking car or public transport I walked for three days to get there just because I could.
Hey You name metal music. Some says that Heilung is more metal than metal ! I have tickets which now still are 2 years cause the corona. Sorry for my poor school english but I have to write this : Saw heilung at DR-huset in Denmark which should be in top 5 worldwide acoustic in the overall tree construction. I was at the highest balcony with a great overview and the scene is round which gives the artist good options to interact with people. At the last song "Hamrer hippyer" Maria only plays drums in the first 4 minutes. of the long song. At that tine several people have thrown their t-shirts away and were dancing wildly as true vikings. Maria simply walked dovn to a man 10 rows down and she played her drum straight into his head for 3-4 minutes when he was dancing as a beserker ! GREAT GREAT GREAT :) Stay healthy and stay thursty :)
I'll see them live in two months here in Finland! Great video, and pretty much every other song from this live show is worth checking out, although I particularly Alfadhirhaiti, as I imagine you'll get a kick out of it. :)

Hi Aileen, awww what a cool reaction to this great song :) and you are so right, their music isn't just for the mind and ears but also for the heart and soul, their music is palepable. Well the whole concert is a masterpiece..hard to believe that it's their very first live concert. For me, after a long and stressfull day at work, the live performance of "Alfadhirhaiti" get's me down, relaxed and pumped up in the most positive way. every time, I listen to it in my car I let go of all the crazy things that happened at work. Something so very interesting an unique of that concert is "Fylgija Ear/Futhorck" it's a very special piece were Kai (throught singing guy with antlers) is performing a reading of runes and Maria is singing and performing in a kind of supporting ritual for kai, so cool. also a very beautiful piece is"Othan" were Maria is preparing or blessing the warriors. A very big recommendation for their new Album. its so different from their former albums, it does not just includes the north european culture but also celtic, roman and mesopotamien melodies. One of the tracks, its called "Nesso" it felt so heartbreaking, it is sung by Maria, and it feels like she's giving up a piece of herself in it. It hit me so hard when i listend to it at the beach at sunset. I just couldn't cope with that at that moment, so beautiful and heartbreacking, unbelievable what Maria is able to create. I just read that she was singing that song in one piece for the recording, just because for the atmosphere of it.
Amazing video! Very well done. Very much enjoyed this one. Heilung's music is so beautiful and it just feels good listening to it. :) Thank you so much for doing this on here! Very much appreciate it.
Amazing!!! Aileen you definitely MUST check out the band called Saphath, it's beyond awesome! The MV for "Outcast of Eden" would be a great starting point for a good review
As always great reaction I am so glad that you have gotten back to more Heilung I hope that you have listened to some of thier new albumn there arent any new videos for it but the music is so good to listen to. I also wanted to remind you about Diana Ankudinovas new 2 songs one is "Revelation" and it has a mood video for it that is so good the other is "Next to you" I just wanted to remind you that they are out there waiting for you to look at lol. I know you mostly do metal but I also know you like Diana's music.
"I know this is not metal, theres no guitars theres no screaming but for some reason that felt so metal" this tells me that you really, truly, fully get metal 😎🤘
This is magic, good magic. Part of all of us. I read a comment on another video, in which a man said when I die I want my bones to be an instrument for this group. Yes lady it is mixed very well. The construction of this piece is spiritual. EPIC. Is this a pre-battle chant? I do not know. All I know is I love it! Moving... Maria does not miss a beat - rock steady... If this does not stir you then nothing will. Love it!
Excellent reaction, always love Heilung :) P.S. - you should still react to Hanabie. They came out with a new song called NEET GAME. I honestly believe you’d really like them :p
So glad you enjoyed my suggestion of Painkiller. Love your reaction. I have another for you, The band is HELLOWEEN and the track is KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS (FULL LENGTH VERSION). Brace yourself its best part of 13 min long, but so worth it Enjoy and keep up the excellent work
Aileen ⭐️ I've very much enjoyed all your Heilung reactions!💯😊 Heilung extracts the animal spirit 🐾brings us back to the earth...🌲🙌 In a time where humans rely most on technology and social constructs...reminds me that we are infact connected to nature in very inherently deep way... 🌙 Stay Awesome⭐️ look forward to all your content👏👍 💛
From my understanding, each band members outfit is made from the actual animal skins of the tribes each is representing. Every instrument is made of animal skins and bones like the trubes did. Very unique 👌
Well if you don't know by now DRIF their new album dropped on the 22nd of August. Can't wait to hear it. Seasons of the Mist webpage is where you get it.
If you ever get the chance to watch the full LIFA concert do so. Changed my life. Was in a bad way when I found Heilung. Their music truly does heal. Much love from NY. Keep the videos coming
I dont know if you have heard/seen In Maidjan by now by Heilung? There Maria Franz truly shines and leaves reactors lost for words. A Norwegian Powerhouse at her absolute best! I believe a vocal coach said that she at one point sounded like a BansheeMaria is in sideproject bands where you can see her out of character (shes flawless in Heilung, always in character) And people even questioned if the dreads are real or not. Its 100% her own grown hair, shes a stunning beauty and modest, down to earth and genuine all day long, every day throughout the year. Oh wait,i see now that YT recommends you reacting to In Maidjan to the right. SUPERB! Im glad i noticed in time, ill be sure to watch that next,as i cant wait to see your reaction as she completely delievers. Krigsgaldr means "War Magic" btw and is more of an song to inspire and motivate warriors in front of a battle. I defintly think that this tribal way of playing,is what metal later became. Oh wow,i forgot i had even left a comment to that reaction LOL,hey im still gonna re-watch it!
Glad you are enjoying the "Heilung", you have to go to those places to Heal, well worth remembering. Try "Othan", "Alfadhirhaiti", "In Maidjan" from the same "experience" / "ritual" next?
Ancient Germaic tribal music. Circa 200 B.C. Night music. Gaining focus and strength through the music. Getting spiritually prepared to lay waste to Roman legions at dawn who, "only understand the language of the sword." Which the Germanic tribes did several times. Incredibley powerful music with utter minimalism of instrumentation and droning vocals. Almost entirely percussion.
I've been a fan of this genre for over 2 years now. Still, I enjoy Heilung like it's the first time. When I saw your reaction to it, I couldn't do anything else but watch! Seeing that Heilung has released their new album 'Drif' now, there's plenty of stuff for you to do reactions on. I would also like to recommend a few songs as well, for they are both as beautiful as this one. -'Gestaþáttr' by the artist(s) Vévaki. A beautifully sung song, with lyrics inspired/taken from the Hávamál. -'Baldrs Draumar' by the artist Gealdýr. Again beautifully sung, with the lyrics being a direct quote from Baldrs Draumar. (A piece of skaldic poetry) I love your videos, Aileen! I will watch every single one of them, regardless if you react to the above or not. Much love from the Netherlands!
As a student of Germanic and Nordic languages, I think you nailed the pronunciation. But I’m just an American of this ancestry, so I can’t be completely sure. I do know it means War/ Struggle Song/ Magical Chant. Pretty amazing. Love this band. Takes me home in my heart.
One of Heilung's best songs, in my opinion, is "Fylgija Ear/Futhorck" (Live version at Castlefest 2017). It's 12 minutes long and is very beautifully done 🙂.
I was fortunate to experience them live in Seattle in September, I have a hard the describing my what felt. But I can say that the music resonated throughout my body and hope I can experience it again at least one more time.
My daughter says its scary, the throat singing. I think its wonderful, Maria's voice is absolutely beautiful. I love this, and Nesso. I am of Germanic and British blood. This is my culture. It lifts me up. Can you imagine the energy it took Maria to tap the bones, almost continuously, and in perfect time, with her arms raised in that position ?
To the cultures background of this: If I see it correctly, these are religious songs that can be associated with the Norse (Vikings). The language is probably based on Old Norse. It is actually still quite well preserved in today's Icelandic language. Although Swedish, Norwegian and Danish have moved quite far away from it.
Saw them in Manchester UK last week My God what an epic experience !!. By the way Eivor was supporting them *big fan of Eivor`s music ,please review her you will fall instantly under her spell .
Drove my momma to her last chemo treatment. She said. “I m feeling healthy”. She died 2 days later. I was glad we was happy on our journey. We listen to Heilung the whole ways to her appointment
The low frequencies connect us to the earth. Fear and pain are in a higher place in our mind frequency. We connect to ground and energize ourselves and remember and process our experience to the divine. The controllers want us in fear and seperate. Chanting and experiences with this will connect us all..

This was their first live concert ever.
Amazing video! Very well done. Very much enjoyed this one. Heilung's music is so beautiful and it just feels good listening to it. :)
Thank you so much for doing this on here! Very much appreciate it.
Amazing!!!
Aileen you definitely MUST check out the band called Saphath, it's beyond awesome! The MV for "Outcast of Eden" would be a great starting point for a good review
Folk hippie music AS it’s a beautiful music I love them too. And great video AS.
It’s always a joy to see Frigg touch the heart of someone outside our culture. So glad you enjoyed this.
Everytime I show someone Heilung, this is the song I show them. Such a wide variety of vocals, and the primordial percussion is just so nice.
this and Ritual by Nytt Land are my 2 go to tracks when I'm having a tough time with my mental health, kinda resets my brain a little
Ragnarok by Nytt land is another one for me
"I know this is not metal, theres no guitars theres no screaming but for some reason that felt so metal"
this tells me that you really, truly, fully get metal 😎🤘
Awesome reaction! Thanks for letting me expeiance it again!
I just saw them in Atlanta on Aug 26 2022. Was one of the greatest shows i've ever seen. It was beautiful. I hope they continue to come back to atl.
My absolutely favorite Song from this EPIC Formation 💚🤘
Greets from Germany
Maria and her Human Bones Instrument :) .....4 Days ago,Heilung have released their third Album DRIF (Gathering) and its again a Masterpiece !
Love it!
Excellent reaction, always love Heilung :)
Brace yourself its best part of 13 min long, but so worth it
Enjoy and keep up the excellent work
Seeing them in St. Paul, MN on September 15th. So excited!
Aileen ⭐️ I've very much enjoyed all your Heilung reactions!💯😊
Heilung extracts the animal spirit 🐾brings us back to the earth...🌲🙌
In a time where humans rely most on technology and social constructs...reminds me that we are infact connected to nature in very inherently deep way... 🌙
Stay Awesome⭐️
look forward to all your content👏👍
💛
Great reaction. Thanks bunches. Heilung is the best! They always make me feel better.
I was in the crowd at that very performance... It blew me away!

Health and wealth to you,
may Donar welcome you,
may Wotan accept you.
Never heard this band before, but their musical style reminds me of the norwegian band Wardruna. Not bad...
If you ever get the chance to watch the full LIFA concert do so. Changed my life. Was in a bad way when I found Heilung. Their music truly does heal. Much love from NY. Keep the videos coming
Это было прекрасно! Много эмоций, мало слов. Как я и люблю. И даже то что было сказано мне очень понравилось - я думаю так же ))
(A piece of skaldic poetry)
I love your videos, Aileen! I will watch every single one of them, regardless if you react to the above or not. Much love from the Netherlands!
If you like throat singing you should listen to The Hu band - Wolf totem. They're a Mongolian metal band.
*NEW SUB* I genuinely enjoyed your reaction video, yea when I first heard that song I thought it was dope as well.
as a hispanic guy as soon as of heard of heliung i instantly fell in love
I get to see these guys January next year 😭 I can't wait
Oh no. That was very metal. "The lullaby of obliteration... Live like dying embers." So veeeery metal.
My favorite Heilung song!! Amazing!!
I was fortunate to experience them live in Seattle in September, I have a hard the describing my what felt. But I can say that the music resonated throughout my body and hope I can experience it again at least one more time.
IN THIS MOMENT BIG BAD WOLF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are experiencing the Hum of the Universe. These are the strings that binds us. Peace
And again a wonderfull reaction thx for that you are so great !!!
Спасибо 🙏 обожаю Вас смотреть 💘💘💘 wow love
Yess...this is one of my favourite songs...on my playlist especially when working.
You can also do a song reaction to
SIM - your killing me
There isn't something more metal than this type of music imho
To the cultures background of this: If I see it correctly, these are religious songs that can be associated with the Norse (Vikings). The language is probably based on Old Norse. It is actually still quite well preserved in today's Icelandic language. Although Swedish, Norwegian and Danish have moved quite far away from it.
Deep Purple, Child in Time live 1970. Iconic Ian Gillan has unbelievable range
Saw them in Manchester UK last week My God what an epic experience !!. By the way Eivor was supporting them *big fan of Eivor`s music ,please review her you will fall instantly under her spell .
This kinda feels like music for meditation 😌✨
I just saw these cats for the very first time.... it's amazing...
If you love this kinda music, I recommend you to listen to Faun.
It's absolutely awesome and so relaxing to listen to them. :)
Drove my momma to her last chemo treatment. She said. “I m feeling healthy”. She died 2 days later. I was glad we was happy on our journey. We listen to Heilung the whole ways to her appointment
Love it GG
🤘🏼❤️
Got tickets to see them in January in London for my birthday. ♥️
It’s amazing how much you said without saying anything.
The low frequencies connect us to the earth. Fear and pain are in a higher place in our mind frequency. We connect to ground and energize ourselves and remember and process our experience to the divine. The controllers want us in fear and seperate. Chanting and experiences with this will connect us all..
tfw the chill vibes turn into lament about war
Aileen 😘 As always A beautiful Reaction Video.
you have to watch the official music video. it explains what is being said.
It is absolute metal from 1000 years ago. The 1st music of mankind was metal.
Heilung and warduna are such good bands to listen to.
I also wrote this for your latest video.
Heilung is touring in the USA right now.
You can find a link in their Anoana video or just search for amplifiedhistorytour.
This is something a lot older, but yeah, it's got that metal spirit.
