Just earned yourself a new subscriber.
I have a 2004 Ford focus ZX3. Crank windows, no cruise control or anything, ac practically brand new, and it's a 5 speed manual. Gets me around town as a daily as well as some short, 4 hour road trips. Installed an Atoto stereo in there since the factory radio had issues with the volume knob
Might follow your stuff to see some tricks on any issues that arise.

Thank you for posting the video. My daughter's 2001 ZX3 idled rough, and bucked when trying to accelerate hard from a stop. No check engine light until after I pulled plugs to see if they needed to be replaced. The code indicated a misfile on the #1 cylinder. Started checking resistance of coil, then plug wires. Coil seemed OK. Noticed that wire #4 wasn't plugged in all the way at the coil, and the contacts were blackened probably from arcing. Using a ohmmeter, wire #4 showed no continuity at all. I'm guessing arcing from the loose boot burned away part of the conductor, so tried replacing plug wires, and problem solved. I think her car also needs motor mounts. I bought the car 2 1/2 years ago from a coworker who was the original owner, and who always kept it well maintained at the Ford dealer. He had just replaced fuel pump and spark plugs. It did have a bad clutch at the time of purchase, which I replaced by myself, and that is probably when the plug wire got loosened. Strange that #4 cylinder wasn't firing, but there were no codes to indicate a problem there.

Consider yourself lucky that yours has a manual transmission. because the automatic transmission models are notorious for transmission failures. Ford Motor Company just figure out to build automatic transmissions. always buy a Ford with a manual transmission you'll be glad you did.

Sometimes it's better to buy the recommended parts for the vehicle then to try cheap on eBay sometimes you get lucky on eBay but sometimes you actually have to buy the actual part or equal to the regular part for it to work properly in the system to understand it

@@IFixShet to date: MAF, O2 downstream, PCV valve and hoses, fuel filter, plugs and wires, oil change. Always buy my parts via Autozone, new/warrantied refurbished. (Ebay folks think their used parts are new by cost, I swear!) After the O2 sensor, I'm done trying to finagle in around the block, it's still cheaper to take it to the shop (timing chain is about due to fall off again) and have them diagnose and fix it. And have it tuned up while they have it.

I have a 03 fucus 2.0 Dohc zetec vin-3 & just swooped a 07 Pontiac G5 vin-F 2.4 which i saw it needed new tire's & a window regulator but, only afterwards did I realize what else the G5 needs due to the fact that, The G5 was running when I approached it. Needs at minimum- a timing tensioner which I allready ordered but, if that doesnt fix the tapping at start up (just for the first 2-3 sec max) then, I will redo the entire timming setup!!! I have already replaced the window regulator, a lower grill, oil change, & on payday it will get 4 new tire's & ride NICE!!!!

In case you or someone else checks in on this video, I have a problem where after driving my car (5 miles or more)
whenever I stop for a quick errand, like go into Micky D's for 7-20mins and come back out and START the car back
up it SOMETIMES run really run after if the timing is off/or bad plugs or something! The car will usually sputter off.
Then I would have to restart it 3 or 5 times and gun the engine and then it will smooth out after about a minute
or two. This is really bad sputtering cause I'm usually entering in heavy traffic will die if I don't put the car into
neutral at stop lights and rev the engine until it smooths out. After the engine smooths out, it run perfectly fine.
I just started trying to TIME between me turning the car off and starting the car back up where this rough
sputtering starts. It seems to be about 5-25 that I've notice at this time. I've noticed that if I come back to the car
within 3-4 minutes and start the car it starts fine. Or if I come back to the car 30 minutes are more, it seems to
    start and idle fine!
My car is a standard 4cyl Ford Focus SE 2.0 not the ZTS model. The problem started maybe about 9 months ago.
It had 125k miles on it and the timing belt broke Just had another rebuilt engine put in ($5000) at a AAA approved
repair shop. I thought this would address rough restart and sputtering issue. But NOPE! Drive towards work,
runs fine, pull into McDonald's for a quick coffee...come back out 15-20 minutes later...start the car and...SAME
crap again. Engine sputtering! Have to do my sputter routine, put car in park or neutral, and keep revving the
engine ...about 1min or 2...until the engine smooths out. Is this vapor lock? If so, how to fix? Could this be
the fuel pump? Why only after 7-20 minutes of engine being off does this occurs. Both engines would run
JUST FINE in morning, evening, mid-day, in heavy traffic...but only after a 7-20 minute stop of engine would this
    happen.
Don't think both engines ( the old engine and now the new rebuilt engine) could have the same common problem.
I almost thing that this caused my timing belt to brake...but that might be pushing it. The car runs perfectly fine
outside of this issue, smooth, quiet. Thanks for ANY insights to this issue and how to address it! THX

Hey drone worship and don't forget if you test it and it still skips or misses. after you driving it down the road. don't forget not to check those check the coil. my Ford Taurus would run rough and it set off the check engine light and it was the coil that was causing the problem I changed wires and plugs. And the car was still running rough and misfired new coil 80 bucks it fix the problem. and after that car runs like a top oh don't forget the PVC I had to replace that too it was causing a vacuum leak. My car is a Ford 2000 SE with a 3.0 liter engine. Wish you the best have a good day.

Hey I have a 2003 ford focus same engine and when it a stop it idles rough up down and the lights dim along with rough idle? What could this be, also I've replaced the mass airflow censor the diagnostic tool said was why the check engine light is on. And that didn't help. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    • @IFixShet
      @IFixShet  4 роки тому +2

Dim lights normally comes back to a weak alternator or a weak battery

    • @michaelweems679
      @michaelweems679 3 роки тому

Lights will dim when idle is low as well. The rough idle will cause the lights to dim, because the idle goes up and down. When it hits the lowest point of idle, the alternator is not turning fast enough to give proper power. If the battery light comes on when the lights dim, it's because of this. I replaced the crankcase ventilation hose (because it was leaking), and fixed the problem on my 2001 Focus ZX3 Zetec. Check all vacuum hoses because a vacuum leak will cause this hunting idle.

No it’s the alternator is starting to go out. Better fix it before it gets worse. Trust me I got stranded. I thought it was battery come to find out it was signs of alternator failing because change of battery didn’t help. The alternator wasn’t charging.

Ah, you have a FORD ( Fix Or Repair Daily ) I'm joking of course. :o)
My wife has a 2001 Chevy Malibu I call Christine (after the horror sci fi movie). I hate that car and I'm sure the feelings are mutual.
I just replaced the water pump and then the alternator and of course the dead battery. We just took the car in yesterday for an oil change, and they came back out with a list of things that needed to be replaced on the car. Struts, front and back, front disk brakes and rotors. But... they were able to save the air cleaner. LMAO.
The estimate for the total repairs came up to about $1200.00. NO, I didn't let them do the work and charge me $800 for labor. Looks like I'll be doing some work on " Christine ".
Did I mention I HATE that car. LMAO.

    • @gdhall5311

The only thing that might present a challenge in changing are the struts. Brakes and rotors are not bad at all depending on your knowing of how to perform the task. Good luck and I wish you the best.

I forgot to mention that I am 68 years old pushing 69, and what don't hurt don't work. lol

      100% easily answered.
Your problem is that you have crank walk. It is very prominent in that year make and model of your vehicle
Crank walk is when the crank is allowed too much transverse (in and out) movement. This will allow the flywheel to come in contact with the sensor

You need to pick up some R134a with leak detector and refill the system then get a small black light and go outside at night after you've been using your air conditioner and Shine the black light around the car engine and AC system. If it's leaking you will immediately see where it's leaking from because the green dye that leaks out well show in the backlight
