Your attention to detail is phenomenal. If only all older boats were built with good planning and craftsmanship. Wish you the best. Tom
Mads that galley isn't spiffy, it is one door short of super spiffy. That galley is going to be a first class space for making first class meals. Excellent finish work. Thank you for sharing, take care, stay well and my best to Ava and Jurkil.
This new galley looks well worth the effort. Despite its smaller size, it looks much more convenient than the previous iteration. I love this central fridge idea, even if I wouldn’t have put a diesel tank under it, but well, this is your boat. Well done !
You don't even try and hide that you're a software developer. From the Kanban board on the bulkhead, to 'read the freaking manual', and countless other little things over the years, you make me smile a little every time... Software developer for decades here myself. Great to see you happy with your work every week.
I loved the suspenseful zoom-in when you checked the sink cutout measurement.
SO INTENSE.
This channel is the most fun to watch. Love watching all the ingenuity you’ve added, Mads! Athena is going to be one fine vessel.
The LIKE i'd like to leave is the quality of your craftsmanship.
I don't say this lightly...
Been following you for some time now.
Very impressed in the way you approach your tasks at hand.
Cheers,
N
I have been watching your videos for years and I must say that galley is some of your best work. That looks beautiful. Nice work!!
Very nice.
At least someone is getting their boat ready .
The galley is going to look wonderfully spiffy. GOD speed. JC
Buddy, that fridge looks fantastic and I think it was an excellent idea to build one so you can modify it as you wish moving forward. It looks store-bought so, that's a sign of great craftsmanship on your part. cheers to ya.
All hail the future flippy outy thingy!
Galley looks fabulous.great to see it come together.
I think it makes sense to use the weight of the top to provide a slight bit of compression to the fridge seals. But I think you should install stops to carry the weight of the top at the point that the seals are compressed by ~1-2mm. The top will be fairly heavy and whatever sits on the top heavier still. The fridge seals shouldn't have to carry the weight of a 100kg load of groceries . Once a sensible amount of seal compression is achieved, additional weight should be supported by the frame, not the fridge.
I believe that already is the case, as he will attach the fridge lid to the bottom of the counter which will transfer the load onto the frame. :)
Maybe find another piece of butcher-block to make a cover for your oven. That way you can increase your countertop area. I’m really fascinated in all the considerations you have to account for in completing your projects.
Love your attention to detail its very theraputic . i spend too long around hairy arsed builders that dont give a doo hickey
Athena looks beautiful great job
Varnishing came up great. I agree satin finish looks great.
I have just spent the lockdown watching these videos from end to end and with this video I am now current! Hours of fun! Some side effects to note - half my tools are now Bosch, I am painting my boat with Sigmadur and Sigmacover, my portlights are all sealed with Butyl Tape and I have picked up some peculiar phrases - angry pixies had my wife in stitches and I shocked myself after a minor accident yesterday by swearing in Danish.
I recently found your channel and the first thing I noticed is the improvement in your English and comfortibility with the camera. Just wanted to say amazing work on literary everything. Its amazing that you haven't done any of this before and it turns out so well.
Hello I’m a long-time viewer started watching this channel before you got Athena and I’ve been watching this refit for about 7 years. Seeing the galley as done as it is. Brought something to my mind. You have been talking for years how are you and your girlfriend want to have a laundry on board. A clothes washing machine and a dryer. If I’m remembering right you enlarged one of the hatches so you’d be able to lower one into the boat at some point. My suggestion to you is before you finish up everything and could damage everything moving a large washing machine and dryer around in the boat is to move it on board now and put it where you want it so you don’t do any damage to anything moving it around. I don’t know if thisoking at your boat this idea came to me. Let me know what you think of this idea. Thank you and your very much part of my Sunday. I love seeing what you have done each week on Athena.
Good to see kanban being applied in areas outside of IT. 👍
I look forward to these videos every Sunday!
Looks PDS for sure! I agree, a fake drawer facia on the below sink cabinet will help tie it all together visually. Coming together very nicely.
Mads you are the best. Here's hoping that your enjoyment of the boat after launch even comes close to the obvious joy you had while refitting her. To get rid of dust specs after varnishing your use of steel wool was spot on but also try dipping it in mineral spirits. You wont get the milkiness that way.
Love it, love it, love it as always.
The finish on the cabinet and draw fronts are super darn spiffy.
Your drawer fronts looks stunning, if you use beeswax with the steelwool you will achieve the same satin finish as the Hallberg Rassey and the likes are using for their interior. I did that on a Danish Collina 29 I had many years ago and when I sold it it was 10 years young and none of the punters could understand how the interior could look so good! Love your ideas and ingenuity in what you accomplish. Always looks forward to the next episode:)
It was good to see the International paint come out. Virtually every commercial vessel I have worked on had International paint, and I figure all those yardbirds had a point.
Wow, the galley is getting even more than pretty dang spiffy!! :-)
That doohickey for clamping the rudder to the skeg is probably a gudgeon.
Very handsome Galley, well done. I like the white and light color woods.
NOW, it’s a “somewhat extensive refit.” Amazing work! It’s been quite a journey!
To get a little more counter space, take the cutout from the butcher block, drill a hole for your thumb and make it w cutting board that sits over the sink. That way you have more prep space.
Every single time it’s over I want the next video. Wish a production studio would pick you up and send a crew to handle all the filming so you could do this 6 days a week! And pump up this timeline! ;)
Galley looks awesome! Can't wait to see you pull a pizza outa the fridge and cook it! :P Cab doors look great!
Galley really does look Spiffy! Congrats
Another great video, THANK YOU! Also, in regards to the blank space on the face below the sink, instead of a fold out cupboard, maybe a stainless or teak hand rail to aid in stabilizing yourself in the galley while underway. Could also be extended left along the front of the stove, so you don't grab for the hotplate when you get bumped by whales or waves or whatever. Just a thought.
I got to say , that for a year now I have watch every video and your diy ability’s are unbelievable and your girl friend has got one hell of a carpenter keep it up can’t wait to see hull finished and boat hanging from sling ready to splash
Don't forget fiddles for the island/countertop edge. Can be just wood strip screwed from underneath, 20mm high or so.
perhaps consider rounding over the outer edges (corners) of the counter top. It would be more safe (if you fell in to it) and it would be less likely for something to damage the sharp corner.
The galley is gorgeous, well done! The finished wood contrasts great with the white paint... 👍
You sure get a lot done in a week. Good job
That galley looks amazing 11 on the spiffy chart!
Love it! It seems like every week is a huge jump forward.
I can't wait to see how well that fridge works out!
Looking really good!!!
I enjoy your videos every Sunday. Thank you.
Making amazing progress. Keep it up!
Nice job, looking forward to launching!!!
Nice looking gally Mads! Pretty dang spiffy!
Ooohlalala! That Satin finish looks great!
Looking great Mads
Galley looks amazing. Great job!
Your hard work is paying off...!!! Can’t wait to see more videos these next few months...!
I wish you had painted all of the insides of the cupboards, The galley looks great with the doors on, you might consider a grab rail to hang onto across the front of the sink perhaps.
The galley looks awesome Mads - Great work 😊👍
I think it's one of the best videos ever!!!
Looks freaking AWESOME!!!!
What a great result Mads - you are an excellent craftsman - super spiffiness!!!
Awesome Mads! Absolutely awesome! The galley looks to be coming along nicely. Can't wait til next week. Be safe.
Mads the galley spiffy indeed! Thanks for taking us along this amazing project!
must feel so good to see progress... glad for you Mads!
Satin is always the best choice. My boat interior is finished in Epiphanes satin and I love the look.
Outstanding progress, great work!
Wonderful progress!
Looking really dang spiffy Mads!
The gallery looks beautiful 😍
Looks great!
Absolutely exquisite work!
posted 7 mins ago - already 1024 views; shows how much people wait for our weekly fix
At least this guy. I love watching everything, the mistakes the progress, fixing the mistakes all by a non professional.
At least it's totally honest work by a likeable guy.
Or how boring COVID-19 has made Sunday ;)
Interesting that its a divisible #. lol views for the win
He's gotten pretty good. Athena is going to be a show piece when he's done.
what an stupid comment!
Looking very good!!!!
It's looking great. Keep up the good work!
Looking excellent Mads, great work.
The galley truly does look pretty darn spiffy! Kudos to you for a good job done.
Hej Mads, great video! So cool to see what is possible to do!
Have a good summer and hope the paint comes on the hull soon!
Fall is fast approaching, but I have faith you will meet your goal. Keep up the great work.
Beautiful Work
Excellent workmanship as usual!
Nice progress Mads!
The galley looks great Mads, it has to be satisfying for you to see the interior beginning to come together.
Time Stamp 19:35, bulkhead behind you and to your left. Perfect location for that missing taped on note. You know the one. It has been a while since there was an available space to put it back up. Hope you will be able to find it.
Looks very good.
looks great
Well done Mads on the kitchen, looks fantastic! 😊
Can't wait for next week
Looking forward to seeing hull painting as l will be doing mine in a year and you have been very helpful for me
Your galley looks wonderful!
That's really a good looking galley utilizing the island as dual purpose counter-top space and refer was brilliant , I can't wait to see the hull painted the boat really come back to life great job skipper !
The galley looks PD Spiffy. If one of the door/drawer latch mechanisms fails at sea you would likely have to tie them closed. It’s worth it to purchase 2 extra latch mechanisms and keep them with the rest of your spares in the technical compartment.
Kitchen looks great, mate!
Mads, the galley looks great, nice job.
Looking good
I'm... so proud!
I wish i, and all of us that have been following along with you along this journey could carve our initials on the back of a board or something...
Inspiring as always. Makes it less depressing to start annoying jobs on my boat.
When I saw the cooling pump for the ittybitty perkins, I thought: "hey, would a hydraulik transition between the perkins and alternator not take care of the sideways load, and give you free placement of both units?"
Two man-made structures visible from the Moon: the Great Wall of China and Mads' counter-top crack. :)
Nice job, really starting to look really great. One observation, once you moved to the current location you productivity increased by at least two orders of magnitude, I would not be in too much of a hurry to splash and loose that productivity boost. That 25' walk into the shop is priceless.
Good luck, have fun sanding
Craig
hi the boat is looking very good like the galley .
Taking shape now
looks great!
LOL when all else fails look at your pictures the heck with reading lol hell of a job man you're very meticulous borderline ,ADD .I love your blog I never miss it and the way you try to explain everything I know it's not how to it is the way you do and nobody's perfect brother but you're building a hell of a boat
What are doing?
Watching Mads stand up, estimating his to-do's, and prioritizing tasks.
Oh, so you're still working?
... yes...
All I need is Mads to throw up a burndown chart.
