    Mads that galley isn't spiffy, it is one door short of super spiffy. That galley is going to be a first class space for making first class meals. Excellent finish work. Thank you for sharing, take care, stay well and my best to Ava and Jurkil.

    This new galley looks well worth the effort. Despite its smaller size, it looks much more convenient than the previous iteration. I love this central fridge idea, even if I wouldn’t have put a diesel tank under it, but well, this is your boat. Well done !

    You don't even try and hide that you're a software developer. From the Kanban board on the bulkhead, to 'read the freaking manual', and countless other little things over the years, you make me smile a little every time... Software developer for decades here myself. Great to see you happy with your work every week.

    Buddy, that fridge looks fantastic and I think it was an excellent idea to build one so you can modify it as you wish moving forward. It looks store-bought so, that's a sign of great craftsmanship on your part. cheers to ya.

    I think it makes sense to use the weight of the top to provide a slight bit of compression to the fridge seals. But I think you should install stops to carry the weight of the top at the point that the seals are compressed by ~1-2mm. The top will be fairly heavy and whatever sits on the top heavier still. The fridge seals shouldn't have to carry the weight of a 100kg load of groceries . Once a sensible amount of seal compression is achieved, additional weight should be supported by the frame, not the fridge.

      @vintagediesel1242 4 роки тому +5

      I believe that already is the case, as he will attach the fridge lid to the bottom of the counter which will transfer the load onto the frame. :)

    Maybe find another piece of butcher-block to make a cover for your oven. That way you can increase your countertop area. I’m really fascinated in all the considerations you have to account for in completing your projects.

    I have just spent the lockdown watching these videos from end to end and with this video I am now current! Hours of fun! Some side effects to note - half my tools are now Bosch, I am painting my boat with Sigmadur and Sigmacover, my portlights are all sealed with Butyl Tape and I have picked up some peculiar phrases - angry pixies had my wife in stitches and I shocked myself after a minor accident yesterday by swearing in Danish.

    Hello I’m a long-time viewer started watching this channel before you got Athena and I’ve been watching this refit for about 7 years. Seeing the galley as done as it is. Brought something to my mind. You have been talking for years how are you and your girlfriend want to have a laundry on board. A clothes washing machine and a dryer. If I’m remembering right you enlarged one of the hatches so you’d be able to lower one into the boat at some point. My suggestion to you is before you finish up everything and could damage everything moving a large washing machine and dryer around in the boat is to move it on board now and put it where you want it so you don’t do any damage to anything moving it around. I don’t know if thisoking at your boat this idea came to me. Let me know what you think of this idea. Thank you and your very much part of my Sunday. I love seeing what you have done each week on Athena.

    Looks PDS for sure! I agree, a fake drawer facia on the below sink cabinet will help tie it all together visually. Coming together very nicely.

    Mads you are the best. Here's hoping that your enjoyment of the boat after launch even comes close to the obvious joy you had while refitting her. To get rid of dust specs after varnishing your use of steel wool was spot on but also try dipping it in mineral spirits. You wont get the milkiness that way.

  • @michaelwallace897
    @michaelwallace897 4 роки тому +8

    Love it, love it, love it as always.
    The finish on the cabinet and draw fronts are super darn spiffy.

  • @larssolem2507
    @larssolem2507 4 роки тому

    Your drawer fronts looks stunning, if you use beeswax with the steelwool you will achieve the same satin finish as the Hallberg Rassey and the likes are using for their interior. I did that on a Danish Collina 29 I had many years ago and when I sold it it was 10 years young and none of the punters could understand how the interior could look so good! Love your ideas and ingenuity in what you accomplish. Always looks forward to the next episode:)

    To get a little more counter space, take the cutout from the butcher block, drill a hole for your thumb and make it w cutting board that sits over the sink. That way you have more prep space.

    Another great video, THANK YOU! Also, in regards to the blank space on the face below the sink, instead of a fold out cupboard, maybe a stainless or teak hand rail to aid in stabilizing yourself in the galley while underway. Could also be extended left along the front of the stove, so you don't grab for the hotplate when you get bumped by whales or waves or whatever. Just a thought.

    Don't forget fiddles for the island/countertop edge. Can be just wood strip screwed from underneath, 20mm high or so.

  • @ronporter610
    @ronporter610 4 роки тому +6

    perhaps consider rounding over the outer edges (corners) of the counter top. It would be more safe (if you fell in to it) and it would be less likely for something to damage the sharp corner.

    The galley looks PD Spiffy. If one of the door/drawer latch mechanisms fails at sea you would likely have to tie them closed. It’s worth it to purchase 2 extra latch mechanisms and keep them with the rest of your spares in the technical compartment.
