I have to say that the forward head/shower layout looked really good, and, dare I say it, it seems to me to be more convenient to have it next to the sleeping accommodation! Also, I would have thought that the washer/dryer would be more appropriate next to the technical area, and you wouldn't encounter the problem of access to the technical area through the shower. Still, I've been watching your videos from the beginning of your adventure and I have always thought that your judgement is sound - you must have your reasons!
I hope that the freezer is going to be well insulated/silent in operation, being so close to the sleeping area.
I started watching these when I was working for the UN in Syria. Listening to rockets and mortars hitting nearby while being absorbed in your glorious and spiffy adventure actually saved my sanity. I love what you’re doing, and thank you for being there when there were tough times.

It was hard to watch you smashing that teak up in the forward head (we've spent so long trying to bring ours back to life, ha ha), but then we realised how good it's almost certainly going to look once you've worked your magic! 😁⛵️⛵️

I look forward to your videos every Sunday. It amazes me how much stamina and perseverance you have repairing your boat. Did you start with a budget or idea of what you would spend on your renovation and how are you doing with it. I think you must have spent a small fortune by now. Hopefully UA-cam proceeds are helping with that. I think you do a great job explaining the projects and look forward to many more.

To me, your choice of separate washer dryer is a good choice since it cuts the cycle time for laundry in half sort of. Anyway as a sorta former mechanic of sorts, I like the super shiney bits. Oh yes, Cadoha is another fun channel I enjoy, just in a less OCD way that you present yourself to be (sometimes)....👍👍👍🙂

Looking good Mads. I wouldn't take too seriously stories from sellers that there might be treasure in a boat or house. Injected excitement is an old trick to sell things. That $300 probably went to a night club tab. You and your spouse are the real treasures on that boat.

disassemble the washer and dryer, there's a lot of unused space inside those "boxes". Should be enough to push them back.
I sawed about 6 inches of the sheet-metal corner off a little bar fridge (wasted space beside the compressor) in order to install it in my 29 ft live-aboard. It enabled the appliance to fit cleanly under an existing counter.
The $80 dollar fridge ran non-stop for the 7 years I lived on her.

Mads have you considered a shelf behind the washing machine a few inches below the top of the WM to set the dryer on. It would open up the working area in front of the washer and dryer.
Hope you plan to add some thin foam or something around the washer to dampen some vibrations. My washer in my kitchen declares war on my cups and plates when it really starts spinning.
Check AEG heat pump washer dryer. I have one and it doesn't need cold water for drying and the heat pump saves also power.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos over the past year. So thank you for that. Now, you might want to consider only adding the washer and not a dryer. Clothes can be dried hanging from the boom or inside the main cabin as you will have plenty of ventilation when sailing. Just a thought as it would free up some value space. Larry in Las Vegas
mads you have extra hesdroom so you have thw option for a pullout table between the washer and dryer.

A Washing machine for a liveaboard on a boat of any size is a must, on a small monohull a dryer also makes a lot of sense. I hope the compressor noise from the freezer does not annoy you too much when trying to sleep.

The doorway to the forward cabin looks narrow. While you are rebuilding the area make sure that the dryer (which looks deeper can actually fit through the campion way and the forward cabin door(especially with the projection of the hose lines in the back of the unit). Overall Athena looks amazing and coming along!!!
I think you have great ideas! Also, those combo units aren't just inefficient with energy. They take well over an hour for a load and can only wash a few items at once.
Maybe you should consider some kind of a rubber base for the washing machine and dryer to absorb vibrations while at sea (I understand they vibrate quite a lot while in operation but wouldn’t be better to play it safe(r)?). P.S. It’s looking very good!
Just finished watching this latest upload. It is about four a.m. Denmark time on Monday and your video already has over 28 thousand views! Along with rebuilding Athena, you have built a loyal and enthusiastic group of Sail Life fans. Speaking of enthusiastic fans, there is now a “sweetheart” exemption to the closed Danish border so you might be able to bring your laborer back on screen.
It is nice to see jobs getting moved all the way over to the done list! I bet you are more excited about that then we are!
Super dooper progress Madz - top tip - if the washing machine has the old concrete block as part of the spring mass damping - take it off to enable the machine easier to ship to the intended home and reinstall once in place. I do not know if it is feasible but full extension draw slides to mount both the washing machine and tumble dryer would be neat.😉😀👍⛵️

I understand the issue with a all in one washer dryer, I have a friend in an RV that went to having both, but he did something interesting and he set up a dual vent process so he could vent the dryer to the inside of RV so that he could warm his rig during colder days, just something to think about. Seems like there could be some wasted space behind the washer, but that gives you lots of plumbing room too!
Thank you Mads for another great video! The old head looked huge compared to the new head. At the rate you are going you should have a palace on the water when you are done. Athena will be a wonderful home for your queen when you bring her home. Take care and stay well.
You should offset the dryer backwards that way your table is in front of it instead. You should still have enough room for storage behind it, but your space usage in the cabin would be much more efficient. It also has the bonus of making the hallway feel larger.
I stashed around $600 Canadian in our boat right before we untied the lines to start cruising which was leftover from a Cuba trip a year earlier.
We were going to be visiting Canada on the way from the Great Lakes to the East Coast. But I never saw it again. I sort of remember stuffing it behind some headliner or trim but later couldn't find it and didn't feel like ripping down all that PITA fiddly bits searching for it. $600 Canadian isn't all that much money these days anyhow :D

Great fun and great progress again in this episode. Its a very good choice of you to put a washer and dryer (I have the combined unit) as it makes laundry much more convenient.
Fridges, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers... combined with hungry sailors who cook with electricity equals 10 kWh generator
In addition, I’ve been to many ports in Europe where I was hooked to the landline and the fuse gave up the ghost quickly even though they assured me they had sufficient electrons. Generally the explanation I got was: there’s something wrong on your boat...
You need 16 Amps times 220 Volt from the harbor or your 10kWh Genset runs in the said harbor...

Mads, what about using household appliances in a saltwater environment? Everything corrodes and rusts so much faster and your Washer will be 240 Volts, easy to come by in Europe but in north America good luck, the dryer no problem but the washer might be harder to acquire.

Have you thought about those 12 volt freezers? Seem to work well and a lot of cruisers say they are more efficient... would be easy to build a spot for it next to washer/dryer.
Drying washing is much about air circulation, not temperature (in open air). It is possible to dry clothes below freezing if the sun is shining. Cold air holds less water as we all know, so when brought in to a warm cabin it will suck up that from the clothes. Drying clothes in the tropics with high humidity and no wind is hopeless.
Mads walks into v-berth carrying the saws-all @1:52, Athena whimpers and you hear "Oh my, please be kind sir".

I think it's sensible to be as comfortable as possible, so the washer and dryer is a must. I am curious about the venting. I'm no expert, but humidity is a minor problem in our house so we leave the laundry door open to the outside.
I think to keep the bow bunk/bed is a good idea. for the dryer will you make a vent to the outside for this humid warm air, you don't want that condensation in the boat

Really nice progress this week. You actually addressed both of my concerns I had while listening to your plans (washer/dryer combo & weight distribution). I guess we really won't know the answer to the weight distribution until you are out sailing around.
Having the washer and dryer plus that vanity area is a big help with your lady on board. A larger mirror an better lighting around the mirror at ther vanity would be a plus but do ask for her input.

Try your best to keep the bed a walk around. Having had boats with both walk around and the climb over configurations, it will be much more comfortable for both of you to be able to get out of bed without disturbing the other. Keep up the great work!

I agree that a 38" boat does not need 2 heads. I have a 45" 5th wheel RV and it only has one head. I also agree with a dryer/washer as I have the same. The all in one units never seem to get clothes fully dry.
I've been watching from afar for a long time... I enjoy it all, think you are a little crazy... my kind of crazy... maybe but at this point .. ok a while back I keep thinking why did he pay for a boat that he could have sailed... why not build your own boat or a bigger older boat that needed.. required... demanded a full refit before floating... have said all that I love the way she is coming together. I guess that explains why the last owner never found the money. He lost it somewhere else. I once drove 250 miles back with my friend, in my friends car (who wasn’t too happy for some reason), to a camping spot because I’d left my wallet. When we got back there we had a big search. No wallet!! Then as I dejectedly got back into the car I had a flash of recall - I’d hid it under the car floor mat for safe keeping. We had gone camping in the desert to look at Haley’s Comet... I think we were a bit generous on the weed allocation for that event. Well you know, it was a pretty big deal back in the 80’s... : )

Have you thought of putting a vertical division in the space behind the dryer? Put galley storage aft of the divider, then clothing locker forward of it.
Well, he did say that space was going to be accessible from the galley for extra storage, so it's pretty obvious there will be a divider there.

I would put an extract fan/dorado to vent the back of the washer/dryer. She’s coming along nicely !
good idea... I'd also find a way to keep that overhead hatch lighting up the "folding table"... even at the cost of more storage.

Question 2: How much dead space is there inside the washer and dryer boxes? could you throw away the metal box and mount the internal gubbins directly to the bulkhead to save space?

we had a washer/dryer combo in a rental, that thing was nothing but a pita whenever something broke and things broke often. we went for the stackable that are 2 separate pieces but the dryer fits on top the washer.

if I compare the inconvenience of climbing over in bed with the inconvenience of sleeping at the point of the greatest boat movements in the bow, I would still consider building the bed to the side.
