Walt has always reminded me of my own father. How much he dedicated his life to ensuring other peoples happiness, especially us and other children. The quote where she says "walt never said goodbye" truly resonates deeply with me. I remember the last lunch I had with my dad, and we just said "see you later" and something in me felt off about it. He had been ill, but I didn't realize his passing would be so sudden. And afterwards it felt like such a fitting goodbye. So casual, but in hindsight held so much significance. Like he knew what was happening. I don't know why there felt like there were so many similarities between the two interactions, but something about it reminded me so much of that last time I saw him. So wonderfully thankful for people who dedicate their lives to others

As I understand it,the main reason Disneyland's version of the Country Bears never achieved the level of success of its Florida cousin had a lot to do with its location. The Florida show is smack-dab in the middle of Frontierland,on one of its main thoroughfares. But the California version was tucked away off the beaten path in the old Bear Country,in a land ironically built for it,and for many years was the only attraction that could be found there. It was hoped that the addition of Splash Mountain to the renamed Critter Country would remedy the situation, but it was not to be.

4:00 That's Marc's wife, Alice. She provided the costume designs for the pirates in Pirates of the Caribbean
Marc Davis was one of Disney's 9 Old Men, his most trusted animators. He helped bring such characters to life like Tinkerbell, Princess Aroura, Maleficent, and singlehandedly animated Cruella De Vil before his retirement. He was also a big help in coming up with most of the character designs for some of Disneys theme park rides like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, America Sings, and many others. Though a lot of you watching this channel may have already known that ^^. The man had such a very unique style that could be translated pretty well to animatronics, especially those with an anthropomorphic style to them, like Country Bear and America Sings. But he was also very good at getting some pretty god human characters with exaggerated looking expressions out of them, a bit caricatured, but with a hint of goofiness to them. He is probably one of my favorites for his style that I would have loved to see an entire animated film done in his style, like his artwork for that Chanticleer pitch before Don Bluth did it.

“It would be unbearable to see them go”
    Dude.
It’s “unbearable” to have lost what we already did lose. I’m still upset they shaved time off the show at WDW because they completely did away with the story of the show itself and I miss the Christmas overlay so badly. It was what got me into The Country Bears in the first place as a little girl! We went during December 2001 and I wasn’t impressed with any attraction more than I was with the Bears in all their country Christmas pageantry. It reminded me of home. I’m from the Deep South.
I wish Disney hadn’t done away with all of that.
I also wish the critics had been a little less harsh on the movie. When it came to theaters, I was already a Country Bears girl and I as so excited to go see it. I had really enjoyed it and I was almost a teenager by then. I hear it got negative reviews saying it was too “childish” but I argue that that’s because the adults spend too much time looking for complexity in the story or for adult jokes and not enough time maturely enjoying and admiring the other things that go into a film, like the special effects. I did love it for its childishness but I also loved the soundtrack and the puppetry! I still do and I’m 26 now. A film SHOULD TRY to aim for adults AND kids at once but that doesn’t mean there’s any shame in a movie getting along better with kids. A movie is good and achieves that aim as long as someone enjoys it.

I'm a Disneylander. I never got to see the Country Bears before Winnie the Pooh and his gang of lawyers evicted them like they had done to Mr. Toad at Walt Disney World. However, I do enjoy listening to the music of all three versions, and the videos that I see come out of the Magic Kingdom make me appreciate the attraction even though I've never seen it live. It seems like a lot of people at Disneyland are open to the idea of seeing a new version of the show. The Country Bears have still made appearances out here as walk around characters as late as 2018 in California Adventure. Guess where? Grizzly Peak. You know what? A lot of people share the same sentiment as I do, which is: put the Country Bears in Grizzly Peak at DCA. They could totally find a way to put it in there. It's the perfect place for it. I'm sure that there is plenty of space for it in the area where Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is. I don't know of anyone that would miss that place if it were gone, and even less would be mad if they only took up a small portion of the trail. It was already said that Disneyland made a mistake with two theaters, so if they only put one, that would be fine. Heck, I bet they could even make it so that the building could play to an outdoor ampitheater so that they wouldn't need so much show building. It's totally possible ffor the Country Bears to make a comeback at Disneyland, and a lot of people would really like to see them return.

old comment but I agree! I just got back yesterday from a trip to the Tokyo Disney parks and I loved the Country Bear Jamboree there, even if the dialogue was all in Japanese. I'm a younger guy and first went to Disneyland in Anaheim in 2009 when I was a kid, and I wished the Country Bears were there back then as I would have loved it as a kid. Plus, the Winnie the Pooh ride in Anaheim is pretty milk toast, especially when compared to how great and unique the one in Tokyo is. But if they put it in Grizzly Peak in DCA I think that would work perfect too, as the area is already set up for it and that whole Redwood Creek Challenge area isn't that interesting, I think they should not get rid of it but just make it a bit smaller and fit the bears in there, just one theatre, it would really help boost the whole Grizzly Peak area which doesn't have much in it aside from the River Run.

@MrTheoLater Yes. The Oogie Boogie figure was manufactured by Garner Holt Productions. Same guys that made the Jack Skellington and later the Sally figures in the graveyard and most of the rest of the overlay for the Mansion. And a bunch of other modern Disney animatronics. Oogie is definitely NOT a repurposed Big Al.
And, the Max, Buff and Melvin that reside in Pooh, are from The Mile Long Bar, NOT CBJ.

The reasons I heard for the Christmas Special's removal was because the overlay wasn't getting enough attendance to justify the costs of installing and uninstalling it, and there may have been copyright issues with a couple of the songs.
Also the WDW version's refurbishment was in 2012 and the reasons I've heard for the shortened version was because guests weren't staying for the full show.

When I first saw it the majority of the theater was full, but the last time I went to WDW in 2016 they were literally asking people to come in. And in a theater built for 350, I only saw like 30 people in there. Maybe it was the time of day but I’m sure that this classic just doesn’t have the same love anymore. But as long as it’s around , I’ll still go to it every trip.

There is one fact in here that is incorrect, Oogie Boogie is in fact NOT a reskinned Big Al. I know this because I have interviewed the man who constructed and programed the Oogie Boogie animatronic at Garner Holt productions, where Disney gets their animatronics manufactured. I finally got to see the show twice in Orlando, as it would "go down" for the overlay during my November visits. I never got to personally see the Christmas overlay. AstroWorld in Houston, Texas had a similar show called The Great Texas Longhorn Review. It featured Cows, steers, skunk, penguin & pigs. It opened in 1982 & stayed until the late 1990's before returning back to a live show. It goes to show that a good idea at Disney, never really dies. LOL

I worked with the Holiday changeover technicians for ten years and Oogie Boogie is not Big Al, in fact he is a specially designed figure for Holiday. Most CBJ figures and parts were sent to Florida and Tokyo for back ups. There may have been some actuators and parts from Big Al that were later used on Oogie but that is not unusual since most animatronics use the same parts. Cool video though!

Amusingly enough, I agree that the bears aren't going anywhere, but for one specific reason: They can't really put anything else in its location. Disney hasn't really created any IP that could fit in Frontierland, and it would be difficult to build anything new of considerable value there without destroying the nearby buildings (and thus completely changing the front end of Frontierland and possibly complicating access to Splash and Thunder mountain) due to the small size of the show.
