    You can spot my wife and I in a few of the still images. We are the ones wearing the Save Mr. Toad shirts with a Haunted Mansion style tombstone on the back. The epitaph reads "Here Lies Dear Old Mr. Toad. He Hit Some Pooh on The Road." The closing of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride at WDW's Magic Kingdom was a sad day for me. Our family first visited WDW shortly after it opened. I was ten years old and Mr Toad's Wild Ride made quite an impression on me. That last day for the ride was bizarre. We could see and sense Disney's security all around us and the feeling of sadness among Toad's fans was palpable.

    Another one I knew you might do soon. Though here's a fun fact: When Mr. Toad got replaced by Winnie the Pooh, it's a whole lot of irony since the authors of the books, A.A.Milne, and Kenneth Grahame were close friends, and in fact had the same illustrator, Ernest H Shephard.

      Kyle Morello I agree, they could of expand the park and put Winnie the Pooh ride somewhere else and still kept Mr. Toad. But sadly today kids probably never heard of Mr.Toad. I never saw the movie as well, I might have when I was a baby but I have to think long and hard that I did watch the movie. But I would love to go to the ride, it looks so fun. But seriously, are these people sick, why would you say Pooh go to hell. That is immature and just sick. It’s just going to make Disney not do it and listen.

      @kylemorello4787 4 роки тому +15

      Yeah, and the story of this ride would fit much more for that short. Think about it! A crazy chase that ends with you dying, and since Ichabod was a golddigger, ending up in hell seems rather appropriate. That's my one problem with this ride. Did Toad really deserve this fate? Yes, he can be inconsiderate, and obsessive, but he's still honest and tries to do the right thing. I guess it just depends on your definition of morality.

    My favorite Mr. Toad experience was when my brother was about ten and I was a teenager. Our family had early admission for Disneyland one morning of our trip, so I took my brother over to Mr. Toad's Wild Ride immediately. We were the first on the ride, and the cast members let us on and sent us on our way. Almost right away, we realized that they hadn't yet turned on the sound. So my brother and I were alone on the silent ride, listening to the set pieces clack. It truly did feel like hell at the end. 10/10, absolutely recommend

    • @jagzrule1
      @jagzrule1 2 роки тому +18

      My wife and I rode Space Mountain many years ago and there were teenagers in the car ahead of us. Their arms and legs were hanging all out of the car during the chain lift. The automatic "keep all hands and feet inside the car" warning was repeated several times, then a real human repeated it much more sternly. Still no action from the teens. The ride stopped, lights came on and security appeared from nowhere and yanked the kids out. After about a 10 minute delay, we were finally sent, but with the lights still on. You know those steel bars that seem really close on some of the turns and drops? They ARE really close! I don't recommend putting your arms up on that ride. Since we had to ride it with the lights on, they whooshed us straight back to the front of the line for an immediate re-ride with the lights off!

      Probably because it's cheaper and easier to close a ride down and replace it with another than expanding. Expansion means that you have to landscape the new section, pave it, add planters, lay in new plumbing and electric lines, etc. A lot of effort for just one ride, effort better saved for adding a new land or expanding an existing one. Plus, there's the fact that adding a new ride to an expanded area would also mean that unless the land actually directly abuts the unused area and not backstage facilities of some kind, the backstage facilities would have to be moved too, otherwise the new ride might not sit directly in the land it's supposed to be in.

      I went on it in 2001 and 2006. I've never seen the movie, but I know how she trusts strangers with free food. I got to meet Snow and the queen in 2001. I asked Snow if she still had that brown dress from the start of the ride. I really liked that dress for some reason. And I asked the queen how she went back to normal after the dwarfs pushed her off the cliff as an ugly hag.

    I remember being very, very young, in the mid ‘80s, in line for this ride for HOURS due to technical difficulties, and our family befriended a British family ahead of us in line. I got a crush on one of their daughters and we had a nice conversation while we waited, seemingly forever. The ride was fun, as was the Peter Pan ride that ultimately replaced it.
    But I’ll always think of that British family and the insanely long wait time whenever I think of this ride.

    I went on the Mr Toad ride at Magic Kingdom. One of few we road twice I remember as a Kid thinking the Track A and Track B thing happened because I was in full control of the vehicle. I thought I was struggling with difficult controls, choosing a path and avoiding obstacles.

    WDW Magic Kingdom is low in the "classic" dark ride department these days. Peter Pan and Pooh are the only "classic" dark rides remaining. Little Mermaid doesn't count for this because it's in a totally different style. In my opinion, they need to bring back a reimagined version of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (they could do so much with this idea) and maybe one other (Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, etc...). I think having at least 3 or 4 dark rides anchored in Disney's ultimate classic films is really what makes the Magic Kingdom or Disneyland park "magical."

    It's a shame that they didn't wait a few more years to adapt Wind in the Willows--if they'd done it in the fifties, when the animation division was in full swing again, they could have done a longer version focusing on the entire novel and made it a Brit-kid-lit trifecta along with Alice and Peter Pan. (This is one live-action adaptation I'd love to see--with a style very different from The Lion King. One that, y'know, will actually ALLOW for the animals to have actual FACIAL EXPRESSIONS.)

    My first few rides on _Mr. Toad's Wild Ride_ were just fun, but a couple of years later, I found the train thing to be scary and would have to close my eyes. It wasn't until I looked for the effect (the light of the "train" had turned off and I could see that it was just a light hanging from a track in the ceiling as we went by) that I was comfortable with that part again. This simple effect was very well done. All-in-all I really enjoyed the ride (track B I felt was much better than track A) and I do miss it. I'll have to see about getting myself back to Disneyland (been there all of one time).
