An elderly woman passed by me while I was crashing and burning at my first race and yelled at me “you’re not going to let this old lady beat you young man!” She beat me easily🤪!
My bad, scheduled it for 5 pm instead of am, happens every now and then. Cheers DGR I’ve learned over time not to let these mishaps bother me. We press on.
We shouldn’t let it bother us either! Gave me a chance to see yesterday as I was out straight all day... loved it! Love the swanky lil jazz notes when you guys got to the restaurant and I love em here today! Love the videos what can I say! Thank You always Seth!
I can remember driving early one morning to the store and the road was temporarily blocked with a number of runners jogging across. I found out they were running a 10k race. So the next year in 1981 I signed up for the race. At 23 years old I ran just over 40 minutes and was hooked. Ran in races every month until 1990 when I hiked the Appalachian trail from Georgia to Maine. After being finally diagnosed with lyme disease I stopped running. Started running again last year at age 61. I was very surprised how slow I was. I am just happy to be running again !!!
first race I was in 5th grade and it was a mile race. Remember throwing up and was about to quit. My dad came running out of the woods and yelled don’t quit keep moving. That has forever stuck in my head any time I’m about to throw in the towel.
remember well, i was about 9yrs old in 1982. The race was 1 mile through an industrial area. Finished second and felt exhausted, i told my dad i would never run again.... But that turned out differently, I never was the fastest, always middle of the pack. 39yrs later still love it, still middle of the (overall) pack.
QD: my first real 5k was as a Freshman during the Milaca Mega Meet. If you're unfamiliar it's the largest high school meet in the world. I don't necessarily consider my junior high races "real" because I leveled up so much my freshman year. I remember being at the starting line with something like 300 other runners and they always fire on the 2 of the countdown to make sure no one false starts. There's so many runners in the small-ish starting line that as a spectator you can feel the ground shake. It's a very fun course. Not too flat like a lot of MN courses and there's a river you run over twice if I remember right. I ran a 21:47 my freshman year. Didn't get into running at all until I was in 8th grade but I wish I had earlier. I have all the talent in the world but I never learned to push past those mental barriers until my coach put me in the 400m my senior year in track. Ended up running Grandma's Marathon in Duluth that June and let me tell you that definitely strengthened me to a certain level ever since. Here I am three years later pushing myself to run 5:20's and 5:30's (just one mile time trials) with no training. Trying my best to work through my achilles' injury so that I can hopefully run another marathon.
QD: in elementary school I did running club in 4th grade. At the end of the "season" there was a 1 mile race. I don't know my place or my time, but afterwards my dad said I could have been 20 seconds faster if I hadn't run with my rain coat unzipped and acting like a parachute.
first race was a 5k in 1983 two weeks before my oldest daughter was born. I did it on a “buddy bet”. There were very few races then and none of us were actual runners. I wore a white cotten tee, cut off jeans, cotton crew socks and my leather work shoes. I remember every minute of that race. No idea re my time etc. it didnt matter - i finished. My second race was another local 5k 31 years later (2014). 😂 i have since run 50+ marathons including many ultra marathons. LT 100 aug 21 next “A” race.
Qd: 10k running with my dad. I was 12 years old. I’m 53 now and still run almost everyday. The impact you have on your kids at a young age will stay with them for the rest of there lives. Please, go run with your kids. Even at a really slow pace.
Not a race, but in elementary school 1978 we had a physical fitness test (600 yards). I was third. My first race was eighth grade mile race dual meet against South Park.
My first race was a decent sized 5k in Philadelphia a few months after I started running. I was mostly worried I would have to walk some part of it so I keep repeating a mantra “stopping is not an option”-not a planned mantra but it just entered my mind. I was shocked to finish 2nd in my age group since I never trained at that point. That’s when I realized I was fast for my age. It motivated me powerfully into the future. Martha. PS you are magnificently color coordinated on this vlog, Seth, between the jacket and the shoes being reviewed.
QD: almost 10 years ago, still a bit overweight, trained hard to get sub 30minutes for my first 5K race. Finished in 28 minutes, and happy, only to know later on that the race committee failed to get permission to block all of the roads that was planned for the event and therefore the running distance was only about 4,5 kilometres 😒 yeah, 10 years ago I have't had any smartwatch to track my run, and I don't remember any running app on phones back then. I sure didn't install any. So back then I usually just running without knowing how far or how fast (exactly). Good times. Less things to think about and just run.
QD: 1st race was HS XC JV; middle of pack nothing eventful - last HS XC Race after a season of foot injuries recovered enough with my placement to win our last meet. No racing for forty years then started running again, first race a 1/2 marathon in Atlantic City been racing ever since with respectful results.
QD: My first race was a 1600m on the track my freshman year of high school. I thought I was gunna run 5:00....but ended up at 5:25. I vividly remember the realization that making improvements in running would be much more challenging than I thought it would be.
QD: My first race was a 5k in November 2019 in Virginia Beach. Weather was strange as it was in the 60s on Thursday and in the 20s on race day Saturday. It was a great experience to hear the gun go off for the start of the race and crossing the finish line. The rest is now history!
QOD: My first race was a 1500m at under 13's. I had won the race before my parents had even sat down to watch so I ran in the under 17's category just to let them see me run. Finished 3rd. Was the start of my love for running.
My first real organized race was just back in December 2020. One funny thing I remember is a got the race bib and realized I had no idea how to attach it. It seems others had brought safety pins or zip ties so it was a bit of a rookie mistake. I ended up partially tucking it in my shorts and then rigging a tie on top with some shock cords that were mean for attaching trekking poles. Next time I will definitely bring safety pins
During school we did cross country, i was approx 11 years old. Out of my year of 125 kids i came in 124th. I was asthmatic and did very little exercise as a young kid and couldn't run consistently. I remember hating it and struggling round, mostly walking.
I remember my first 5K very early in my running career. Honestly, it was the longest 3.1 miles of my life, but as I recall that day, I am amazed how easy 3.1 miles is now compared to 7 years ago! 👏
QD: Ran a charity 5K in middle school and remember sprinting at the end to try to break 30, but vomiting on my way to the finish line. Still finished, but just over 30 minutes. I've come a long way since then. :D
I think I'm speaking for many of us here, but I would love to see a comparison between the Glideride 2 and Endorphin Shift. Seem like very similar shoes, as highly cushioned trainers with a prominent forefoot rocker.
QD: I remember during my first 10k I was suffering hard at about the 9k mark and I kept getting encouragement from the other runners. This is when I realized the running community are a supportive group and aren't judgemental, at that moment I knew this is the community I wanted to be a part of!
Wow QD memory blast! In 6th grade I had been the best runner for years among my friends and classmates. A poor kid from Mexico, who I wonder now might have been older, he had a small moustache, as I recall. Anyways, he lapped me. Lapped. Same thing happened to me when a poor kid from Thailand showed up to play soccer. It was like he was alone on the field, no-one could get near him or the ball. Better still, his little brother who was a foot shorter than me and 30 pounds lighter challenged me to a martial arts spar. He kicked me in the family jewels 3 times & stood on my chest laughing at me. I invited his older brother to my house to watch the Super Bowl, and he had no idea what I was talking about, knew nothing about American football. But yeah, Ronny Medina is the Mexican kid who ran so damn fast & far, it blew my mind. I speculate now whether he trained, or just grew up in a dangerous neighborhood, and learned to run from fights? This memory also reminds me how later when my neighborhood had to take the bus to another town for junior highand high school, any kids doing sports had to add like 3 hours to their school day, taking special buses. I opted not to do these early/late bus rides, and I think that decision literally warped my entire life path, changing my friends, my lifestyle, and my future academic and scholastic life dramatically. I so wish now I had stuck with sports in jr high and high school. So so sad, the change that decision made. I tried joining cross country in high school, with my New Wave friend, but a huge jock tried to beat us both up with a steel rake, because we were New Wavers; we quit.
My first xc race I was 10 years old and remembered being scared of running a mile because it just sounded like a long distance, but it wasn't so bad, and I also remember placing exactly in the middle of the race (however many kids there were).
5.6km / 3.5 mile race. It was in the pouring rain and I remember making so many excuses of my time because of it 😂. Think it was 25+ minutes or something. That was 9 years ago....
QOD: Martigues-Carro, south of France. One way road race, hilly 17km. It was end of July, 1987 or 1988. Very hot day, my friend and I jumped in the Mediterranean Sea right after the race
“raced” a mile in 4th grade gym class around the baseball fields next to our school, finished in a little over 7 minutes completely wiped out and sore for the next few days!
QoD: Finished 4th in my first race in elementary school. I remember being pissed that I didn't get a medal. There were no participation medals in those days.
QD: Gym class, 2nd grade. I ran with all my might and didn't notice I veered to the right and into the path of the guy I was racing. I remember people thinking I blocked him on purpose. Honestly I didn't even notice anyone else as I was giving it my all.
My first race ever was the YMCA Run, in Hackensack, NJ. It started at the YMCA on Main Street. April 9, 1978. There was a 5 mile and a 2.5 mile race. I did the 2.5 miles, in 18:34. In blue shorts with white trim that I bought at Cowan's Sporting Goods in Hackensack, a block away from the YMCA. I think I wore Adidas SL-76's. I remember being scared to death, having no idea how I would finish (dead last? I had no clue.) I was somewhere in maybe the top 3rd of the field at the end. It was cool but not cold, really sunny. There are lot of races I've run that I zero recollection, but that first race I remember almost every detail of the day.
:qod: my first race was in 7th grade, 2 mile xc race in the middle of august in Texas. I’ll never forget my throat just completely drying up after maybe a 1/4 mile. I thought I was dying. Huge learning curve
QD: was actually a track 800, they needed someone for the 800 and they chose me. I complained about running it to my mom only to finish 5th or 6th which is the best race position wise I’ve ever run. (For the record, I was never a mid distance runner on the track, I was 10k all the way)
QOD - Portsmouth Half Marathon. Paid £5 on the day as my friend was running. Ran in boating shoes, boxer shoes and U2 t shirt - 1:35. Didn’t run for years thereafter.
my first race was the Portland Marathon. Originally I was going to run with my friends and we all were going to finish together. But at mile 17 I had had enough of running together and took off. Of course as a newbie this later turned out to be my demise but at least it turned the whole thing into a race. I remember some of my friends passing me at mile 22. Learned a ton from it. Mile 17 can feel so good compared to mile 22! Also at the end toward the finish line a I gave my final kick to try to beat some old guy. From there I was hooked with the competitive nature of running!
First “official” race was in high school for cross country. I had just joined the team for fun and realized there was a lot of better runners out there. Finished second last :(!!
I would not be concerned about where you placed. Did you have fun? Make any new friends on the team? Improvement will come with time during this season and the following seasons. Congrats on your first race!
@@marcuslockhart769 absolutely! It’s all about the experience, meeting with fellow teammates and the bus ride to the event. This happened about 20 years ago and still remember!
I thought I was the only person that didn't love the glideride, everyone on youtube adores this shoe! I have the first one and I've tried so hard to like it, every I time I run in it I have to stop at 6 miles and take it off because the pain is too much. The plate digs into my foot and my arch cramps up pretty severely. It almost seems like the show wants you to "point" your big downward as it relieves the arch motion which cramps me up. I have about 50 miles on it and I hate that I've spent money shoe that's past the point of returning. I was really hoping this was going to be my go to long distance shoe but I'm at the point where I can't even wear it for easy runs.
Your not alone. I bought a pair last year and after a number of tries i simoly cant wear the glideride. Ill be sending them to Seth for his shoe give away. 🤪
:qod: I ran a 5km when I was 6-7, I got just over 30mins eventhough it was quite hilly. I was just happy that I beat some adults. It is one of the only 5km races that I didnt throw up in.
QD: 1st race was cross country grade 3. I had to pee really bad the whole time and tried to find spots in the woods.. to many kids so i suffered and never did a race again until 20 years later at age 28 and now im hooked on ultras at age 32 😝
i was actually on the cross country team for my elementary school (its funny because i didnt really run up until covid hit) and i remember doing a race and not doing as good as i thought i should have. Even as a 4th grader i was beatibg myself up😅
QD: First race was a huge cross country meet my freshman year of high school. I remember two very distinct things. 1. Half way through the race, I saw a few kids walking and thought to myself "wait, is that an option? You can stop running?" 2. After the race, I had the cup of water in my hand and was so thirsty, but I couldn't drink it because I was still breathing so hard.
my first race was a 5K in 2013. I had just started running. The day was hot, humid and raining off and on. It was so hard and my finish time was dreadful but after I crossed that finish line I was ready to sign up for the next one. I ended up running a 5k nearly every weekend that summer.
QD. My first race was a half marathon. I'd never approached that distance before and I was slow and steady. After 10 miles I over took a guy. A few seconds later he blasted past me and ran ahead. Then he stopped, bent over and was breathing hard. I overtook him again and less than a minute he blasted past me again.. This cycle played out 5 times before he eventually couldn't catch me..lol. I never increased my pace .. It's funny looking back
QD: I was about to answer about my first 5k when I was 32, but I just realized they made me run hurdles one race in high school. I normally threw the shot put. I finished dead last, and I believe that was my one and only race before I took up running again in my 30s.
QD: my first race was in high school I signed up for a thanksgiving 5k, I was 16 years old and this is the first time ever that I ran, by the end of it I believe my time was somewhere between 45-48 minutes, and I was defeated tired and sore already, but at the end they announced 1st,2nd & third place winners. I was not expecting to win anything at all meanwhile they got to the first place spot and I had won in my division which was (16-18 years old). I was so happy like it wasn’t planned and that’s also where I started to fall in love with running too!
QD: had a good first half marathon race at the GNR in UK, getting cramp at the last 2 miles it what I remember the most. I knew so little back then (20 years ago) about running training, nutrition, race preparation, etc. Learned a lot that day, still learning now.
not my first race overall due to running track, but my first cross country race I remember sprinting towards the finish side by side after an opposing teams runner cut off a significant part of the course and he out sprinted me to the line before they disqualified him so I won first place. Heck of a way to start a cross country career
My first race was in CC as the football coach told me to join CC. I had no idea of the sport but loved the golf course and placed 2nd. Then went on to State my first year running. 😃 State ranked but placed 32nd in 6 inches of snow
QOD: The taste of blood after a crosscountry race when I was 11 because of the cold air. I associate this feeling with the sense of a complete effort. I wish I could run like that again, full throtle, not thinking about pace or time, juste racing.
my first race was a race in Canada with a lot of poeple from different company. It was in Drummondville. I was surprised and existed with the big number of participants. I was very easy on these 5k and i managed to pass many poeple very easily...i was very pround of doing that without training...it was the beginning of a long story 😁😁😁
First race, Turkey Trot 10k. The feeling of running in a pack, and the sound of everyone's feet. At times all striking the ground in what seems like unison. Nothing like it.
I'm kinda confused about the companies sending their shoes for early reviewing purposes. For example, the Hoka Mach 4 were very intriguing but today I'm kinda whatever about them since they're not available for such a long time. I'm losing interest in buying the shoe and I see the beginning of the same process with the Glideride 2 now. Does anyone feel the same?
QD: 2014 was time when I did strength sports but as East African related I added lot of hiking to my routine because trekking up to Kilimanjaro summit for 5th July 2014 after that September 2014 I just felt enough brave to go to 12,5km multi-terrain race at 95kg/210lbs bodyweight with no proper training in my book ☺️ actually I did my first race about 4years before I started distance running.
QD: I remember absolutely sprinting the last 400m because I got yelled at that I looked like I was going too easy, so I bolted the last bit, and realized my coach was right.
QD: I don’t remember my first race. But when I get to about 60% of my sprinter speed I feel like I’m floating through air and I want to go faster. Unfortunately today if I exceed that I end up with an injury because I don’t train it enough and I’m a little older. The goal is to get body used to a 75-90 mile week before spring and start training on how to fly. Today my mind is younger then my body it appears
It was the first time I'd run at all and it was quite a strange one. It was a school XC when I was 13, I ran with my friend for the first mile because he ran for a club but he struggled a lot. I decided to pull away and run my own race and managed to make the last qualifying place for the next round. My swimming fitness must have helped!
QD: First race was a 10K about 18months ago. Remember packing together with another guy who had a similar pace and instantly realised how it all works with the camaraderie and working together out on the course.
Have the 1st iteration and love them. Can't wait to see what the improvements are too them. They have become my easy day shoe and long run shoe.

From my first race I remember how unexpectedly great day it was. I definitely did not expect such a great vibe from the race day, endorphines everywhere, people chilling, sunshine. And me pushing the tempo harder than ever after lol. Plus seeing the photos of me running which made me realize I truly not look like in those commercials for the running shoes and gear. :-D
My first race ever was when I was around 10 years old, was a 400 meter dash. I was wearing jean shorts without a belt so was pulling my shorts up the entire way. And tied for first
Shoedio hall of fame? Either a single shoe that was a real stand out, or a model/design that has proven consistent excellence over time? Maybe an all time ‘top ten’ list. Would be entertaining to archive both trending and historic outstanding performance/design in shoes

QD: In my first race, my friend and I were racing head to head towards the finish of a 5K and we tied exactly! It was a great racing memory!

QD: What do I remember most about my first race?
Puking.
Mine was in high school and I puked from the nerves before even racing! It was in front of my
Teammates too. Sooo embarrassing 🤣
My first race of any length was last February in Palm Springs. Still makes me 😃
My first xc race I was 10 years old and remembered being scared of running a mile because it just sounded like a long distance, but it wasn't so bad, and I also remember placing exactly in the middle of the race (however many kids there were).
Thanks for the review. Glad that I go for GR1 recently.
QD: cramp during race but not during all out training.
Love the SLOVENIA tracksuit!! :D
“raced” a mile in 4th grade gym class around the baseball fields next to our school, finished in a little over 7 minutes completely wiped out and sore for the next few days!
Later than usual Seth! Was starting to worry you'd fallen in a well and needed rescuing!
QoD: Finished 4th in my first race in elementary school. I remember being pissed that I didn't get a medal. There were no participation medals in those days.
I was starting to get worried that it was over an hour late posting
I gotcha
Wooo hooo there we go! DGR 💪
QOD: I have to be honest and say that I do not remember my first race, it was over 50 years and probably 500 races ago, as a Sophomore in HS.
QD: Gym class, 2nd grade. I ran with all my might and didn't notice I veered to the right and into the path of the guy I was racing. I remember people thinking I blocked him on purpose. Honestly I didn't even notice anyone else as I was giving it my all.
QD Brussels 20k, 29.5 degrees celsius and 3 long tunnels with rather steep uphills, more than a run it was a fight for survival :)
I ran my first race in Brussel too. The marathon.
@@TheChessRunner the brussels marathon is no joke, congrats!! But at the very least it comes in colder weather
@@stefanopintus2969 thanks man. There were indeed some nasty hills.
(For the record, I was never a mid distance runner on the track, I was 10k all the way)
Spotted that you switched in the OG NB FuelCell Rebel. I smell a first impression of the v2 in the air...
Thank you, Seth for saving me time and money! Great review (as always).
Jut got back from my interval training in the snow. Time for a snack and Seth
Would love to see a review of the Nike Zoomx invincible run that were dropped in some areas of the world today!
Even as a 4th grader i was beatibg myself up😅
I had high hopes for the GlideRide, it was by far my favourite shoe in 2020. Maybe get another pair (3rd) of the first iteration
So excited for the Glideride!!!!! And the comparison
Helpful review Seth
Freshman year of H.S. running M.D.I. course I fell and cut open my knee. I'll never forget having mercurochrome put on it after the race!
The GlideRide 2 feels like one of those "upgrades" that just adds more things, with no benefit, to something that already works really well.
I remember setting of way way too fast in my first race not really respecting the distance and suffered so badly 😂😂
QD: I run barefoot during my first 100m race in primary school, on a grass track 🤣
Was a 10k. Didn't actually race it/train for it, just did it for fun. Enjoyed the cheering and general vibe of racing.
Yes do a battle. I need to know because I loved the first iteration. Thank you
QD: 2014 was time when I did strength sports but as East African related I added lot of hiking to my routine because trekking up to Kilimanjaro summit for 5th July 2014 after that September 2014 I just felt enough brave to go to 12,5km multi-terrain race at 95kg/210lbs bodyweight with no proper training in my book ☺️ actually I did my first race about 4years before I started distance running.
the outsole kind of resembles the endorphin speed/pro line
QD: I remember absolutely sprinting the last 400m because I got yelled at that I looked like I was going too easy, so I bolted the last bit, and realized my coach was right.
QD: I don’t remember my first race. But when I get to about 60% of my sprinter speed I feel like I’m floating through air and I want to go faster. Unfortunately today if I exceed that I end up with an injury because I don’t train it enough and I’m a little older. The goal is to get body used to a 75-90 mile week before spring and start training on how to fly. Today my mind is younger then my body it appears
Pretty colours and design ,but what about the price,a shoe from Target cost 9$
I'm here to find out who's the first to comment lol
Good Evening DGR
Greetings from Philippines.
QD - Sack race at school aged six. The sack was light, durable and cheap, but not very peppy. Overall score 7.1/10.
QD: I remembered that I didn't train enough for my race but I managed to finish it in 1:47 (my first half marathon). Onward and upward!
QD- cross country in high school. Came in at 8th position
qod- I remember jumping over bails of hay for some sort of school race when I was early in elementary school. I was not fast then, nor am I now. Lol!
And tied for first
I think that the Evoride is the tempo day shoe that has the same technology.
QD: I was 6 years old in my first 5k, and I specifically remember stopping at 2 miles and realizing that I could keep pushing even when I was hurting
It was at my primary (elementary) school and I was 5/6th and chasing down the older kids :D Friday morning cross country club was epic!
when will the Ultraboost 21 review come? great video
Will pick up another pair of Glideride 1s before trying this shoe.
If you are willing get the original Glideride it is on sale for as low as $110 off of ASICS website if you want to save $40 off a very similar shoe.
QOD - first race was 8th grade. 2 mile race, I walked a little and ran almost 19 minutes. Fell on the ground after Bc it was about 105 degrees
Shoedio hall of fame? Either a single shoe that was a real stand out, or a model/design that has proven consistent excellence over time? Maybe an all time ‘top ten’ list. Would be entertaining to archive both trending and historic outstanding performance/design in shoes
