Quick sidenote: If you pay close attention to his/her hooves,you notice there’s some fur around them. That’s called ‘feathering’ in the horse world. This could be due to Skydancer having draft horse ancestry or possibly being designed after wild horses or mustangs,as they are known for having ‘feathering’ around their hooves at times. not to mention, if you pay attention to the shape of Starlight’s head,you’ll notice that his head shape is a dead on trait of Arabian horses which are known for having ‘dished’ faces! Unfortunately, this appears to be the standard for reboots in general: a poorly made project that relies on nostalgia to make a quick buck. As a reboot that actually works, MLP is a bit of an anomaly. On the more upbeat side of things, the diamond planet actually exists! XD Its IRL name is Planet 55 Cancri e. :P
Lightning Bliss, You're not alone in your love of Rainbow Brite. Truth be told I was born in the late 80's so I never got the chance to watch it on tv. But, I've kept renting the vhs tapes of the cartoon and re-renting the movie over and over again. Much like how I did for the original My Little Pony cartoon that was also from the 80's. I watched Rainbow Brite's reboot too and I had the same exact reaction as you did and felt the same exact way. However, as much as I think that the reboot is the absolute worst, it actually made me appreciate the original classic even more now. I'm sure that those rainbows, that joy and that magic of the original will never fade away, and this piece of garbage calling itself a reboot will never destroy what made Rainbow Brite so wonderful in the first place.

i also grew up loving rainbow bright.. i was terrified when i heard about a reboot since i knew what happened to teen titans. however it did prompt me to relook at the old series i remembered loving so much. i feel ya blissy... and honestly i actually would like to see you review episodes of rainbow bright and the movie. share it with us for those who weren't able to see it when it was out. bring the rainbow to everyone

I just want to point out that sky dancer in the original cartoon is way more badass than he had any right to be. Galloped on storm clouds, Bucked lightning bolts and blasted ice from his nose. He's like a mount for an elemental wizard.
Great Video, Señora Bliss. I never watched the original Rainbow Brite(?) show, but form your passionate review I might go give it a look. Not really into American Cartoons, and I am no animator. I am a writer and it is sad to see so many bad scripts being put out over good ones. Then again it's all about the ratings, sales, and profit with most media. They try to be 'Different' yet the same. You can always think of it this way. Since the reboot was so bad if it get's another reboot it can't possibly be worse, right? Think about what happened with MLP, or not, maybe the same can happen for Rainbow Brite.
dear bliss, i want to thank you for making this video i know you may never see this comment but i feel its important to say anyway. i once was young like we all were and due to the fact that my parents were born and raised in a different time than myself they introduced me to hidden gems of their days of youth and through the internet i was able to relive some wonderful if cheesy memories. then came the day a gaming company whos name i wont mention took away the chance of a comeback for my favorite character: a certain purple dragon, so that they could sell more toys to people and make a mint off older gamers love for the character. for a time i was sick, angry, depressed.... but while i still am that was a time ago a few years in fact and thanks to you and this video im reminded that while he may not be in the limelight anymore like rainbow bright and other franchises that have changed over the years he and many others will never be forgotten by those of us who loved them. thank you for being a wonderful example of the best of ponykind, thank you for making us laugh and smile each and every day, thank you for being you lightning, and know that no matter what happens, wether its a horrible reboot, or something crazier you have us and we are always behind you p.s im sorry if this is cheesy it was written in a moment of passion and i couldn't help it

Personally, I would like to see reviews of Rainbow Brite's originals. For a few reasons: 1. The 80s 2. I had watched the first few episodes years ago when first learning about MLP (it was on UA-cam) and always wondered what bronies thought of this show that seemed good but also cartoonish. 3. The 80s (again... you have no idea how much I like the 80s)
That is why you never reboot of original good shows. Take a look at power puff girls, teen titans go, tom and jerry, sailor moon. They were rebooted to keep on the somewhat series of a good show but they did not create it in a way for many to love like the originals did. P.S. love your Hamilton parody :)

I agree. I especially loved Teen Titans and powerpuff girls when I was a kid. The reboot was just painful to watch and so cringe worthy I couldn't last 5 mins watching it. I can't even find the right words to describe how painful it was!

For what it's worth Blissy, Rainbow Brite may make a comeback in time. I mean I once thought Voltron was dead after voltron force from years ago and others thought it was dead after the 3rd dimension from the 90's. but then legendary defender came out and my and there love of the franchise was reborn a new. So you see bliss, in time someone else may eventually make a newer show but be more respectful to the franchise.
On a positive note blissy your animation has come a long way and the time and effort you put into your reviews, thoughts and other pieces of work are inspirational and wonderful for me to watch. I enjoy seeing you grow :3
Man, now that was an emotional review o_O i kinda expected a rage-burst within the review but still it was an awesome review never then less. And I agree whit Goldenfox in all points too: i mean if I think back (and saying this with my "young" 24 years) there many video games series that i loved like Spyro, Rayman or Crash Bandicoot. But later on all of them took on changes where they wasnt even recognizable anymore for what i know them (like those stupid Rabbits in Raymans chase). But i still got the old games and i play them over and over just to be reminded what they used to be. And if i ever have children (what i doubt will happen^^) i will show them those old games just to show them what i loved about those heros back then. We are the guardians of those memories and we will stay strong for then, even if they destroyed (or f?$%ed up) them. That is what matters, nothing else. Keep up that good fight and your work as a content creator Bliss.

belmontzar you got that right: all they did whit Spyro in Skylanders is useing him to commercialize the Skylander Toys, heck even in the TV series hes mearly a shadow of what he used to be. Man, that ending broke me into tears I had the same reaction when I saw the Thomas reboot where I thought it was gone TBH the reason I like classic Thomas so much was that it didn't think we were stupid and it didn't talk down to kids like modern shows nowadays that's why I go back to the show time and time again.
Thank you for showing the picture that I made for you at the end. Also, I'm sure that there will be a new but better Rainbow Brite reboot. MLP G3 was really bad, and so was G3.5, but then came G4. G4 made the MLP franchise better. The 2014 reboot may just be their own MLP G3, so maybe there will be a better one coming soon.
I have ideas for my take on "Rainbow Brite" (I hope you don't mind these changes): 1. Make it into a magical child theme (only done better than what the comics tried to do). 2. Make Rainbow Brite/Whisp & the Color Kids be knights & protectors of Rainbow Land, along with it's rulers King Hue, Queen Pastelle, and Princess Moonglow. 3. Have Rainbow & Stormy turn out to be sisters. 4. Make Starbrite be mute, but still expressive (like Spirit, Maximus, or Phillipe) as well as the other horses...except for Kry's horse. 5. Make the horses be Pegasi with their own unique set of wings to make them be actual flying horses (Star would have diamond wings, Skydancer would have lightning bolt wings, and Sunrise would have butterfly wings). 6. Add new Color Kids, including those that represent, black, white, and gray (they're colors too). 7. Make Krys & Brian be the same character, as in Brian becomes the Crystal Knight aka Krys when in Rainbow Land. 8. Have the origin of Lurky being a rejected sprite because he wasn't as cute as the others.
Having never watched the original Rainbow Brite, I absolutely loved the ideas, creativity and care that seemed to go into the segments shown in this great review. There's some amazing stuff in there that could have made a reboot amazing and, I would venture, on par with MLP 4th Gen in popularity. I'm genuinly interested in some Rainbow Brite reviews from your channel, Blissey! I might even look for the episodes and see them for myself!

And I've never even seen you before. And I don't even like most reviews, only chancing outside of a few favorites a few times a year. But...you win. You've won my heart. I want to hear your perspective from now on. I'm a judicious subber...but you got me on the first go. I never watched Rainbow Brite as a kid, but I definitely know the pain you feel about seeing what you love about a show you invested so much in being mangled and denigrated. Frankly, I had those same feelings throughout most of Season 6 of MLP. I spent a lot of that time feeling bitter and angry and to a certain extent, I still am. But "Newbie Dash" and "28 Pranks Later" can't take "Sonic Rainboom" and "Wonderbolt Academy" from me. "No Second Prances" can't take "Amending Fences" away or "Every Little Thing" ruin "Lesson Zero." There's an adage I'm rather fond of: "Although the eagles do swoop down and beneath the chickens fly, chickens with outspread wings never will soar amid clouds in the sky."
This honestly made me almost become an emotional wreck. All because I felt your pain. Growing up Rainbow Brite was my favorite thing to watch and it made me very positive even though I was being bullied. It kept me going. If I could I would hug you because watching the reboot made me so furious! They had ruined the entire thing, they ruined the thing that made me happy. So I was devastated. Oh my Celestia! Now I feel like upchucking rainbows over this reboot, and I'm a mare of darkness. But yes, I do understand where you are coming from on this. I was really excited when I heard about The Lion King Return of the Roar because I knew that Simba and Nala had a son and maybe, maybe, we would finally get his backstory. But no. Instead it took everything I grew up loving about the movies and the books and tossed all of it out the window. For me, it was kind of like Zelda 2. It had the potential to be a good stand alone, not a reboot or continuance.

I'm going to be honest, I watched the Rainbow Brite movie when I was...around five or so. I never knew there was a tv series as it had ended long before I was born and I was just over at my great uncle's house and he had it so I watched it. I loved the movie but now, thanks to you specifically, I know about the tv series which I probably never would have before. Really, I completely forgot about the series until I found your channel. So thank you for reminding me of the fun I had watching the movie. I even looked up the series to see if I could find an online version so I could watch it. ^.^ Thank you again, really.
i loved the Rainbow Bright movie so much, and just hearing the theme song made me flinch and some part of my childhood run away. i do hope that this is just a case of something like gen3 for MLP, and that the next reboot will actually work and introduce people to a great series.
As a person who grew up with Rainbow Brite (and Strawberry Shortcake, and He-Man. Was a big He-Man fan), I was rather interested when I heard they were remaking one of the shows I used to watch as a four year old. After seeing this, I can only hope that some people with heart who actually remember the show fondly and have the talent to try taking a better crack at the series do so. Because this review showed me a show that, for the first time, I am afraid to look for as it may actually ruin my childhood.
I feel the same I watched teen titans and it ended abruptly and I thought it'd soon have a good reboot but what did I get? Doogie and fart jokes, burrito vs burger, the titans not listening, starfire made a little dumber, and rediculous orgins. Why did they have to ruin an amazing show with good story and characters just to make a couple of bucks.

As a fellow child of the 80's Lightning Bliss I feel your pain. While we've seen other favorites like Transformers and My Little Pony manage to thrive and be given new live; sadly no love to Rainbow Bright. Nothing proper anyway. As a very little kid I knew more girls than boys and so I often ended up watching 'girls' cartoons' as a compromise when they came over or I visited their house and we had to pick what to watch. Sometimes we watched Transformers, G.I. Joe, or M.A.S.K. and other times we'd have MLP, Jem or Rainbow Bright. Out of the three I like Rainbow Bright best especially the movie; even when I got older when it was reaired on Disney Channel, I watched it remembering the fun song lyrics, visuals and thinking back when my friends and I would have Optimus Prime and Rainbow working together to bring color and justice to the galaxy... Good times. Sadly it seems greed and stupidity was in ample supply when it came to rebooting Rainbow Bright. Maybe one day somebody will look at the last reboot, realize it failed because of poor quality and lack of effort than a love of product and give it a fair chance. One can hope. Stay positive!

My grandpa recorded lots of 80s cartoons on a VHS tape (like Stop the Smoggies) and one of them was Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer. After he died, watching the tape made me feel better and made it easier to not feel so sad. It was really hard after he died. I missed him so much, but Rainbow Brite and the other cartoons made me think of him whenever I watched them.
(Forgive me for the wall of text. I didn't intend to say as much as I did.) Why do reboots these days have to ruin the source material? I mean, I get that the idea for a reboot is for a "restart" of the franchise. And with that, they're free to explore new things. But too many times, it ruins it. For example, Teen Titans was a show I was a fan of, perhaps because of the kinds of villains and conflicts involved, as well as being good at what it does. It respects the viewers' intellect. And then Teen Titans GO happened. There are no villains (that I'm aware of), no real conflicts, nothing serious. It's target audience is obviously a lower age range. But even with that, it doesn't respect the intellect of it's target audience, choosing to believe that the audience intellect is younger than they actually are. It doesn't make you question what's going on or leave you wondering what's going to happen next. And then there's Dragonball Evolution. In basic terms, the creators of that movie had next to no knowledge of the source material. It's not a bad movie on it's own. It's just a bad interpretation. And then the Ghostbusters reboot...I could tolerate the idea if the claim was that they were the next generation of Ghostbusters. But no, it's just rule 63 Ghostbusters. But not all is lost. Perhaps Rainbow Bright will have a chance at another reboot. After all, Gen 4 of MLP is perfect for the whole family, and respects the viewers' intellect and with good animation. But you can't forget the fact that it did come after Gen 3 of MLP...need I say more? Perhaps it was just put in the wrong hands. And then sometimes the best thing to happen to a franchise would be the fandom itself. There are fan created projects that make franchises so much better. Fanfics that expand the universe, create new lore, or "what if" scenarios. Artwork that expand the imagination, add detail, original styles, etc. And then there are the OCs, some good, some bad. You, Blissy, have created an MLP OC inspired by a different franchise. How I see it, if the creators can't (or won't) bring new life into a franchise, then let the fandom bring life into the franchise. Take the reigns and make it into something YOU would like to see it as. The fact is that a franchise is only as powerful as the fandom. However, a fandom can easily be more powerful than the franchise.

In fact, the cartoon from the 2000s was based on a comic series. But unlike the original cartoon, Teen Titans Go has no connection to the original comics.

For example, if the Cutie Mark Crusaders got their own show (which they almost did), that would be a spin-off. If there was a series focused on Las Pegasus, that would be a spin-off. Torchwood is a spin-off of Doctor Who. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a spin-off of the original Law & Order. TTG however doesn't fall into the category of a spin-off. It falls into the category of a reboot. Think of it like a tree. The tree itself represents the continuity of a series. The trunk represents the main series. A spin-off would be represented by a branch. A branch of a tree, like a spin-off, can grow it's own twigs and do it's pwn thing. But it's still connected to the trunk (the main continuity). However, if you take a seed form that tree and plant it, it will create a new tree that's independent of the original. This new tree represents a reboot. The new tree does carry the DNA of the original tree. The DNA represents the source material. However, unlike the spin-off branches of the original tree, a reboot isn't connected to the continuity of the original. And because TTG is independent from the continuity of the original series, THAT is what makes it a reboot and NOT a spin-off.

That's how I feel about Teen Titans Go. I hate TTG but I still love Teen Titans. The reason why I hate TTG is because of the bad writing. TT has better animation than TTG. I will remember TT not because of TTG but because of what TT and what it has done for me in my childhood. I hope people will go watch Teen Titans over Teen Titans Go. I now have a genuine interest in the original, although I fear I'll have to look hard to find it. I never really gave it any thought before, because I really didn't like rainbow bright's design. However I've almost never really cared too much about quality in the artwork, because it's always been the world and the story which intreugs me the most. From that one exchange you showed, rainbow brite's character grabbed me right away, and I think you chose a good clip to show it Great job, really great job with this one. what happened to Scooby Doo, Teen Titans, and Powerpuff girls is the reason why I lifted those fandoms. With Scooby he looked like he was a freaking dumb dog who doesn't even know what the freaking *beep* to do, Teen Titans: THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE FREAKING KIDS, IT TOOK MY MONTHS TO FIND A UA-cam CHANNEL THAT STILL HAD SOME OF THE OLD TEEN TITANS WE KNOW AND LOVE. Powerpuff girls: I don't even know wht to say about them, but in of the episode of the new season of the new powerpuff girls they did bring in unicorns that I'm not mad about because face it all of us love unicorns.
An important thing to point out, who heck was Hallmark targeting with this reboot? They put the series on this no named website called Feelin where you have to pay to watch their shows. There is no other series close to it on the website. Who is going to spend money on a website for just one series? Kids aren't going to care, and the ones who would have interest in the series and would actively seek it out would be the ones, such as yourself, who are nostalgic for the original, who hate this. The series never had a chance in the first place. And they didn't sell toys to compliment the new series. It doesn't make any sense. Also this reboot isn't the first where they changed the name of Twink. The 2009 reboot did the same thing. They changed it to Twinkle. Either the name is copyrighted with something else, or they changed it because of what shows up when you Google the name Twink.

Lightning Bliss, You're not alone in your love of Rainbow Brite. Truth be told I was born in the late 80's so I never got the chance to watch it on tv. But, I've kept renting the vhs tapes of the cartoon and re-renting the movie over and over again. Much like how I did for the original My Little Pony cartoon that was also from the 80's. I watched Rainbow Brite's reboot too and I had the same exact reaction as you did and felt the same exact way. However, as much as I think that the reboot is the absolute worst, it actually made me appreciate the original classic even more now. I'm sure that those rainbows, that joy and that magic of the original will never fade away, and this piece of garbage calling itself a reboot will never destroy what made Rainbow Brite so wonderful in the first place.

I just want to point out that sky dancer in the original cartoon is way more badass than he had any right to be. Galloped on storm clouds, Bucked lightning bolts and blasted ice from his nose. He's like a mount for an elemental wizard.

Great Video, Señora Bliss. I never watched the original Rainbow Brite(?) show, but form your passionate review I might go give it a look. Not really into American Cartoons, and I am no animator. I am a writer and it is sad to see so many bad scripts being put out over good ones. Then again it's all about the ratings, sales, and profit with most media. They try to be 'Different' yet the same. You can always think of it this way. Since the reboot was so bad if it get's another reboot it can't possibly be worse, right? Think about what happened with MLP, or not, maybe the same can happen for Rainbow Brite.
dear bliss, i want to thank you for making this video i know you may never see this comment but i feel its important to say anyway. i once was young like we all were and due to the fact that my parents were born and raised in a different time than myself they introduced me to hidden gems of their days of youth and through the internet i was able to relive some wonderful if cheesy memories. then came the day a gaming company whos name i wont mention took away the chance of a comeback for my favorite character: a certain purple dragon, so that they could sell more toys to people and make a mint off older gamers love for the character. for a time i was sick, angry, depressed.... but while i still am that was a time ago a few years in fact and thanks to you and this video im reminded that while he may not be in the limelight anymore like rainbow bright and other franchises that have changed over the years he and many others will never be forgotten by those of us who loved them. thank you for being a wonderful example of the best of ponykind, thank you for making us laugh and smile each and every day, thank you for being you lightning, and know that no matter what happens, wether its a horrible reboot, or something crazier you have us and we are always behind you

Take a look at power puff girls, teen titans go, tom and jerry, sailor moon. They were rebooted to keep on the somewhat series of a good show but they did not create it in a way for many to love like the originals did.

I mean I once thought Voltron was dead after voltron force from years ago and others thought it was dead after the 3rd dimension from the 90's. but then legendary defender came out and my and there love of the franchise was reborn a new. So you see bliss, in time someone else may eventually make a newer show but be more respectful to the franchise.

Man, now that was an emotional review o_O i kinda expected a rage-burst within the review but still it was an awesome review never then less. And I agree whit Goldenfox in all points too: i mean if I think back (and saying this with my "young" 24 years) there many video games series that i loved like Spyro, Rayman or Crash Bandicoot.
But later on all of them took on changes where they wasnt even recognizable anymore for what i know them (like those stupid Rabbits in Raymans chase). But i still got the old games and i play them over and over just to be reminded what they used to be. And if i ever have children (what i doubt will happen^^) i will show them those old games just to show them what i loved about those heros back then. We are the guardians of those memories and we will stay strong for then, even if they destroyed (or f?$%ed up) them. That is what matters, nothing else.

Man, that ending broke me into tears I had the same reaction when I saw the Thomas reboot where I thought it was gone TBH the reason I like classic Thomas so much was that it didn't think we were stupid and it didn't talk down to kids like modern shows nowadays that's why I go back to the show time and time again.

Hey look at it this why, if mlp can come back after what gen 3 did then there's still hope for Rainbow.
Even G3 has a certain charm to it (except for the abomination known as Newborn Cuties).
Thank you for showing the picture that I made for you at the end. Also, I'm sure that there will be a new but better Rainbow Brite reboot. MLP G3 was really bad, and so was G3.5, but then came G4. G4 made the MLP franchise better. The 2014 reboot may just be their own MLP G3, so maybe there will be a better one coming soon.
I love how you added in "Congratulations" from "Hamilton" near the end.
I have ideas for my take on "Rainbow Brite" (I hope you don't mind these changes):
1. Make it into a magical child theme (only done better than what the comics tried to do).
2. Make Rainbow Brite/Whisp & the Color Kids be knights & protectors of Rainbow Land, along with it's rulers King Hue, Queen Pastelle, and Princess Moonglow.
3. Have Rainbow & Stormy turn out to be sisters.
4. Make Starbrite be mute, but still expressive (like Spirit, Maximus, or Phillipe) as well as the other horses...except for Kry's horse.
5. Make the horses be Pegasi with their own unique set of wings to make them be actual flying horses (Star would have diamond wings, Skydancer would have lightning bolt wings, and Sunrise would have butterfly wings).
6. Add new Color Kids, including those that represent, black, white, and gray (they're colors too).
7. Make Krys & Brian be the same character, as in Brian becomes the Crystal Knight aka Krys when in Rainbow Land.
8. Have the origin of Lurky being a rejected sprite because he wasn't as cute as the others.

Having never watched the original Rainbow Brite, I absolutely loved the ideas, creativity and care that seemed to go into the segments shown in this great review. There's some amazing stuff in there that could have made a reboot amazing and, I would venture, on par with MLP 4th Gen in popularity.

I never watched Rainbow Brite as a kid, but I definitely know the pain you feel about seeing what you love about a show you invested so much in being mangled and denigrated. Frankly, I had those same feelings throughout most of Season 6 of MLP. I spent a lot of that time feeling bitter and angry and to a certain extent, I still am.
But "Newbie Dash" and "28 Pranks Later" can't take "Sonic Rainboom" and "Wonderbolt Academy" from me. "No Second Prances" can't take "Amending Fences" away or "Every Little Thing" ruin "Lesson Zero."
There's an adage I'm rather fond of:

This honestly made me almost become an emotional wreck. All because I felt your pain. Growing up Rainbow Brite was my favorite thing to watch and it made me very positive even though I was being bullied. It kept me going. If I could I would hug you because watching the reboot made me so furious! They had ruined the entire thing, they ruined the thing that made me happy. So I was devastated. Oh my Celestia! Now I feel like upchucking rainbows over this reboot, and I'm a mare of darkness. But yes, I do understand where you are coming from on this. I was really excited when I heard about The Lion King Return of the Roar because I knew that Simba and Nala had a son and maybe, maybe, we would finally get his backstory. But no. Instead it took everything I grew up loving about the movies and the books and tossed all of it out the window. For me, it was kind of like Zelda 2. It had the potential to be a good stand alone, not a reboot or continuance.

I'm going to be honest, I watched the Rainbow Brite movie when I was...around five or so. I never knew there was a tv series as it had ended long before I was born and I was just over at my great uncle's house and he had it so I watched it. I loved the movie but now, thanks to you specifically, I know about the tv series which I probably never would have before. Really, I completely forgot about the series until I found your channel. So thank you for reminding me of the fun I had watching the movie. I even looked up the series to see if I could find an online version so I could watch it. ^.^ Thank you again, really.

i loved the Rainbow Bright movie so much, and just hearing the theme song made me flinch and some part of my childhood run away. i do hope that this is just a case of something like gen3 for MLP, and that the next reboot will actually work and introduce people to a great series.

As a person who grew up with Rainbow Brite (and Strawberry Shortcake, and He-Man. Was a big He-Man fan), I was rather interested when I heard they were remaking one of the shows I used to watch as a four year old. After seeing this, I can only hope that some people with heart who actually remember the show fondly and have the talent to try taking a better crack at the series do so. Because this review showed me a show that, for the first time, I am afraid to look for as it may actually ruin my childhood.
I feel the same I watched teen titans and it ended abruptly and I thought it'd soon have a good reboot but what did I get?
Doogie and fart jokes, burrito vs burger, the titans not listening, starfire made a little dumber, and rediculous orgins. Why did they have to ruin an amazing show with good story and characters just to make a couple of bucks.
It took a lot of guts and a lot of heart to do this review Bliss. I never really watched Rainbow Brite(the good one:). I think i might just watch a few of them, thanks to you. Great job on the video, Toon and Golden were great, i can't wait for your next video. I will be watching out for the next rainbow:)
As a fellow child of the 80's Lightning Bliss I feel your pain. While we've seen other favorites like Transformers and My Little Pony manage to thrive and be given new live; sadly no love to Rainbow Bright. Nothing proper anyway. As a very little kid I knew more girls than boys and so I often ended up watching 'girls' cartoons' as a compromise when they came over or I visited their house and we had to pick what to watch. Sometimes we watched Transformers, G.I. Joe, or M.A.S.K. and other times we'd have MLP, Jem or Rainbow Bright. Out of the three I like Rainbow Bright best especially the movie; even when I got older when it was reaired on Disney Channel, I watched it remembering the fun song lyrics, visuals and thinking back when my friends and I would have Optimus Prime and Rainbow working together to bring color and justice to the galaxy...
Good times.
Sadly it seems greed and stupidity was in ample supply when it came to rebooting Rainbow Bright. Maybe one day somebody will look at the last reboot, realize it failed because of poor quality and lack of effort than a love of product and give it a fair chance. One can hope.

Well, I used to own a KIA Spectra... ;þ
My grandpa recorded lots of 80s cartoons on a VHS tape (like Stop the Smoggies) and one of them was Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer. After he died, watching the tape made me feel better and made it easier to not feel so sad. It was really hard after he died. I missed him so much, but Rainbow Brite and the other cartoons made me think of him whenever I watched them.
(Forgive me for the wall of text. I didn't intend to say as much as I did.)
Why do reboots these days have to ruin the source material? I mean, I get that the idea for a reboot is for a "restart" of the franchise. And with that, they're free to explore new things. But too many times, it ruins it. For example, Teen Titans was a show I was a fan of, perhaps because of the kinds of villains and conflicts involved, as well as being good at what it does. It respects the viewers' intellect. And then Teen Titans GO happened. There are no villains (that I'm aware of), no real conflicts, nothing serious. It's target audience is obviously a lower age range. But even with that, it doesn't respect the intellect of it's target audience, choosing to believe that the audience intellect is younger than they actually are. It doesn't make you question what's going on or leave you wondering what's going to happen next. And then there's Dragonball Evolution. In basic terms, the creators of that movie had next to no knowledge of the source material. It's not a bad movie on it's own. It's just a bad interpretation. And then the Ghostbusters reboot...I could tolerate the idea if the claim was that they were the next generation of Ghostbusters. But no, it's just rule 63 Ghostbusters.
But not all is lost. Perhaps Rainbow Bright will have a chance at another reboot. After all, Gen 4 of MLP is perfect for the whole family, and respects the viewers' intellect and with good animation. But you can't forget the fact that it did come after Gen 3 of MLP...need I say more? Perhaps it was just put in the wrong hands. And then sometimes the best thing to happen to a franchise would be the fandom itself. There are fan created projects that make franchises so much better. Fanfics that expand the universe, create new lore, or "what if" scenarios. Artwork that expand the imagination, add detail, original styles, etc. And then there are the OCs, some good, some bad. You, Blissy, have created an MLP OC inspired by a different franchise.
How I see it, if the creators can't (or won't) bring new life into a franchise, then let the fandom bring life into the franchise. Take the reigns and make it into something YOU would like to see it as. The fact is that a franchise is only as powerful as the fandom. However, a fandom can easily be more powerful than the franchise.

I think you may be confusing a reboot with a remake. It may not be a remake of the original cartoon. But it is a reboot of the franchise as a whole. In fact, the cartoon from the 2000s was based on a comic series. But unlike the original cartoon, Teen Titans Go has no connection to the original comics.

That's not true. I mean, yeah it sucks. But it's not a spin-off. A spin-off is when characters or places that have been established in a series get's their own show. For example, if the Cutie Mark Crusaders got their own show (which they almost did), that would be a spin-off. If there was a series focused on Las Pegasus, that would be a spin-off. Torchwood is a spin-off of Doctor Who. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is a spin-off of the original Law & Order.
TTG however doesn't fall into the category of a spin-off. It falls into the category of a reboot. Think of it like a tree. The tree itself represents the continuity of a series. The trunk represents the main series. A spin-off would be represented by a branch. A branch of a tree, like a spin-off, can grow it's own twigs and do it's pwn thing. But it's still connected to the trunk (the main continuity). However, if you take a seed form that tree and plant it, it will create a new tree that's independent of the original. This new tree represents a reboot. The new tree does carry the DNA of the original tree. The DNA represents the source material. However, unlike the spin-off branches of the original tree, a reboot isn't connected to the continuity of the original. And because TTG is independent from the continuity of the original series, THAT is what makes it a reboot and NOT a spin-off.

That's how I feel about Teen Titans Go. I hate TTG but I still love Teen Titans. The reason why I hate TTG is because of the bad writing. TT has better animation than TTG. I will remember TT not because of TTG but because of what TT and what it has done for me in my childhood. I hope people will go watch Teen Titans over Teen Titans Go. I know what you are feeling because I've be through this. Thanks Lighting Bliss I have learned something from this even though Teen Titans isn't like it was when I was growing up. Also, a wonderful job explaining the subject matter to someone who doesn't know about it and exactly where the reboot falls short. I now have a genuine interest in the original, although I fear I'll have to look hard to find it. I never really gave it any thought before, because I really didn't like rainbow bright's design. However I've almost never really cared too much about quality in the artwork, because it's always been the world and the story which intreugs me the most. From that one exchange you showed, rainbow brite's character grabbed me right away, and I think you chose a good clip to show it

Good work, you made me happy, sad, angry, and hopeful all in one video. This is why I watch youtube videos in the first place. They make you think, they make you look back to when you were young and look forward to the future ahead. I will always remember my favorite cartoons and look at them as the hallmark of entertainment, even if a new version comes out, it can't ruin what was already created. I watched this reboot and i was SO MAD. I grew up watching Rainbow Brite (and MLP gen 3 yup killl mee) and when i saw the reboot i nearly cried, they changed the realistic style horses to these shitty fucking roman-nosed cartoons and Brite was more of a powerpuff girl than anything else.... >.<

what happened to Scooby Doo, Teen Titans, and Powerpuff girls is the reason why I lifted those fandoms. With Scooby he looked like he was a freaking dumb dog who doesn't even know what the freaking *beep* to do, Teen Titans: THEY LOOK LIKE THEY ARE FREAKING KIDS, IT TOOK MY MONTHS TO FIND A UA-cam CHANNEL THAT STILL HAD SOME OF THE OLD TEEN TITANS WE KNOW AND LOVE. Powerpuff girls: I don't even know wht to say about them, but in of the episode of the new season of the new powerpuff girls they did bring in unicorns that I'm not mad about because face it all of us love unicorns.

An important thing to point out, who heck was Hallmark targeting with this reboot? They put the series on this no named website called Feelin where you have to pay to watch their shows. There is no other series close to it on the website. Who is going to spend money on a website for just one series? Kids aren't going to care, and the ones who would have interest in the series and would actively seek it out would be the ones, such as yourself, who are nostalgic for the original, who hate this. The series never had a chance in the first place. And they didn't sell toys to compliment the new series. It doesn't make any sense.
Also this reboot isn't the first where they changed the name of Twink. The 2009 reboot did the same thing. They changed it to Twinkle. Either the name is copyrighted with something else, or they changed it because of what shows up when you Google the name Twink.
Just be glad they didn't air it on Discovery Kids!
